This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of August, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1770], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

The Noyes Senior Time of Reading Camp, Penfield Hill 3:50 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Road, Tent #39, Cobalt, Conn.

1. HLC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here.

3. As we find, there has been a bit of overtaxing of the body in those activities about the Camp. These have caused some exaggeration of disturbances that have been indicated as a part of the conditions of which the entity is to be mindful.

4. If there would be a relaxation of the body, with a full hydrotherapy treatment, with special reference to feet and limbs AND the better eliminations for the system through the alimentary canal, we find there would be a general improvement for the system.

5. In the hydrotherapy, - we would use a high colonic; this to cleanse the colon of the poisons that are indicated by the fullness as well as the shortened circulation through the lower extremities.

6. These as we find, with the general precautions as we have indicated, should make for the better conditions for this body.

7. Ready for questions.

8. (Q) What is the condition of the blood stream? Is it acid or not? (A) The inclinations are towards an acidity, from some toxic forces that are indicated by the lack of the proper eliminations. Hence the need for purifying the alimentary canal as well as the superficial, respiratory and perspiratory system, as we have indicated, to make for bettered conditions in these directions.

9. (Q) What suggestions as to what not to eat? (A) Tomatoes are not so well for the body, unless those that have been properly canned without the benzoate of soda.

Too much of spaghetti, macaroni or the like combined with cheese should not be taken.

Too much of gravies should not be taken.

Have plenty of fruits; occasionally nuts, and sweets of the natural sort; and vegetables in most all of their forms should form the basis of the diet.

10. (Q) Should Codiron be continued every now and then? (A) Do not take Codiron when the system shows a toxic condition. Otherwise it is well to occasionally take Codiron, for the tonic effect to the whole of the system.

11. (Q) Are arches normal now? (A) As indicated, these are in need of those relaxations as suggested. Of course, these are in a better condition except for the acute influences as we find in the present, - that need attention, especially in the feet and ankle and limbs.

12. (Q) Is there a remedy for poison ivy which you could suggest? (A) The very tender shoots of same made into a mild tea and taken internally as a tonic would prevent poison ivy being effective.

When it has been attracted, or is effective in the circulation, take small quantities of Atomidine internally, - one to two drops in water for four or five days, and leave off. And bathe in a weakened solution of same, or bathe the portions thus affected.

One is a preventative, the other - of course - is to eliminate same from the system.

13. (Q) Can you suggest definite exercises for reducing thighs and hips? (A) The exercise of swinging the body, - that is, placing the feet against a stay or prop, and - raising on the hands - raise and lower and circulate the body. Then, sitting on the body, - that is, sitting down, - raise the feet without the use of the hands. This character of exercise will tend to reduce hips and those portions of the body that are thusly affected, see?

14. (Q) Have I any tendency to sinus trouble? (A) This is indicated by the profuse mucous that at times forms an irritation to the throat.

Use an inhalant, or a spray for throat and nasal passages, to aid in eliminating this condition; prepared in this manner:

To 1/2 ounce of only 90% Grain Alcohol, add 2 ounces Distilled Water. Then add, in the order named:

Oil of Eucalyptus…3 minims, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…3 minims, Tolu in Solution…10 minims.

Use this in a spray.

15. (Q) Is the use of Swiss Kriss, an herb laxative every night, dangerous? or can other suggestions be given for constipation? (A) It is - as most of such - habit-forming, and requiring that there be a greater amount from time to time used.

The hydrotherapy treatments are much preferable, with - for THIS body - the vegetable rather than mineral salts used at times: as Eno Salts or the Syrup of Figs, or the Senna Leaves Tea, - these altered or changed at times would offer or form a basis for rectifying the disturbance.

Diet, of course, has much to do with this.

16. (Q) What can be done for ingrowing toenail? large toe on both feet? [See 1770-4, Par. R24.] (A) These as we find would respond to the dampening of baking soda with spirits of camphor and putting a small quantity of same on cotton, or alone, under the tip of the nail, close to the irritated place. This will remove the condition, if used daily - or nightly.

17. (Q) Any other suggestions for the body? (A) Best that the body take some of the rest AND the hydrotherapy very soon, and not let this toxic force increase.

R1. 9/5/39 Tuesday, Mrs. [1770]‘s letter to EC:

My dear Mr. Cayce:-

These have been crowded days - as I brought back three friends from … to N.Y. - and they are still with me.

This check of yours has just been waiting for me to find time to write to you - but I enjoyed being alone - when attending to my correspondence.

Breaking up the little apartment & going into storage - makes me a bit heart sick - but I presume all changes are for the best.

I sincerely hope that your Gertrude is in better health by now - don’t let anything happen to her.

When my guests have all gone - (I’m bringing them back to … on Thursday) and when I’ve returned to our quiet peaceful quarters, I’ll think of myself & obey the instructions in the last reading.

Camp days are over - and stern realities lie ahead.

How grateful we all should be - that we are here in America

• and not in war torn Europe - tho my heart goes out to them all - for they probably long for peace - as much as we do.

Remember me to Hugh Lynn & to your dear Gertrude.

Dear Mrs. [1770]:

Another time when I just want to - oh well guess when one feels as bad as I have for last ten days and they are writing to some one they think a great deal of, and their opinions one wishes to say all sorts of things.

Am sure you are being kept busy, and on the go most of the time - just hope it doesn’t take up so much time that you neglect your self too much.

What are you planning to do this fall and winter - if you are breaking up your Apt., am sure tho you have something worked out where you will be helping some one else. Lets hope it is all for good.

Gertrude is feeling some better thank you - but not feeling well at all its me tho that has been sicker than a pisened pup, have a summer cold - oh it is a beauty and have just been up and down, not able to do much of any thing. Feel a bit better today, but have had to work rather consistently, as out of town people have been here now for a week, just hope am not doing myself and them an injustice.

Yes - that’s it like some you think of others then your self

• and while you are resting and taking care - then you may have chance to write me again. Thank you.

My, oh my, this war nearly runs me distracted - and where it will end - seems to me we see the breaking up of traditions

How is [1771]? Is she back home as yet or still in … Give her our regards. H. L. is taking care of Mr. Sugrue and keeps him fairly busy. Miss Gladys’ nephew has gone to Tex. to live - she has had him for last two months and makes it bad for her. Hope he keeps well - we are all crazy about him “Thomas Jefferson”.

…, Maine

My dear Edgar Cayce:-

Guess you know how busy I’ve been - calling on friends & entertaining them - saying our “fare wells”, to those whom we love in & near New York City.

Did your ears burn one day - when [1468] and I had luncheon together? She is a dear and I shall miss seeing her this winter.

Then came hectic days of packing for storage. Of course I had to pour over everything - and much was thrown into the fires - much!!!

We moved into storage on Sept. 22nd & have been visiting my friend, […] [See 1770-3, Par. 28-A] at her summer cottage

• on the Maine coast. A lovely beach & at one end scraggly rocks, which we love to scramble over, (at low tide) and hunt for drift wood. The sea gulls are most friendly & the inquisitive seals or porpoises are a constant source of delight to us all. The way they stretch their heads out of the water - peering at us - makes me feel as tho they were longing to play with us - but just couldn’t get up their courage to do so.

The sun has been conspicuous by its prolonged absence but we’ve managed our daily walks & drift wood hunts - and we were privileged to see the full moon - shedding its silvery radiance upon the incoming waves - there for some reason or other the clouds gathered round, and we were left to mourn the loss of its beauty. My! but nature is beautiful! Why can’t we humans profit more from it?

I’m wondering how you & Gertrude are? Surely your summer cold has vanished - now that the autumn is here? and I sincerely hope that Gertrude is well again too.

Give Hugh Lynn our fondest regards, - we shall miss seeing you all.

[1771] and I are leaving for the west coast - as soon as my monthly check arrives, and when we had seen all our numerous friends - in this part of the country (around … I mean.) We plan to be gone for quite some time, may be a few years - tho I am mindful of what you told me [1770-3, Par. 27-A] - “Go West - but do not entangle your life so as to REMAIN there. So only on a VISIT.” But a visit can be prolonged over a period of years.

I believe that the change will be beneficial for [1771] & there is much ship building & air plane building in Seattle, Washington - where I intend to really settle, after visiting Southern California.

Wish it were possible for us to see you all again, before we leave, and if we stop off enroute in …, Va. we’ll be doing just that. Of course its only an “IF”.

You’d love it here - tho I must say - the ocean’s roar & ceaseless motion - do not bring to me - the peace which comes - when I’m at Camp - in Cobalt Conn.

Tried to buy Codiron & found the name of it is now, - ADIRON. Did you know that? Bought a large bottle of 250. Had a few treatments - at Reilly’s & enjoyed a friendly chat with Mr. Reilly. Strange we did speak of you.

R5. 10/5/39 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1770]:

Dear Mrs. [1770]

Have thought of you many many times since having a line from [1468] telling me of having lunch or something with you and of your going West. Goodness me, it just won’t be the same with you not here in the East, but am sure the places you go in the West will be all to the good for your going there. But am sure you have been busy, and appreciate it your taking the time to drop a line this way. We shall miss you, and can’t let you go unless you come by and see us - do really hope it will be possible for you to stop and say hello - even if it is hello and good bye. Must be lovely on the Maine Coast - have been in Maine along the New Brunswick border. Was there for fishing and hunting [In the fall of 1930 with Dr. L. A. Lydic], but didn’t get to the Coast, but hearing it described as does Seth Parker and his group, now having you tell about its loveliness, well one just wants to go there at once.

This packing for possibly months or years - must be some job - hope you didn’t pitch any thing in the fire that you will wish to see again - but know how such goes. Went through an old trunk of mine just day or so ago - and - well hope won’t wish to look over some of the things that I committed to the flames. Wish might have been privileged to have seen the Maine coast with you as you describe it. Know tho it’s lovely. We do profit by such lovely experiences, it comes out in our gentleness, our kindness to those less fortunate in experiencing such - as you have in its description to me. Am sure has made me feel better

• and possibly will enable me to pass it on unconsciously to some poor soul seeking - oft they know not what.

Well for our physical ills - believe we are both on the mend. A new baby [Caroline Weston House] and a coming wedding this week [Lillian Katherine McAllister to Lytle Webb Robinson] has sent Gertrude off to Norfolk on a shopping trip this afternoon, so am sure she is happy in the anticipation of bringing some joy in the hearts of the new Mother and Father and the Bride and Groom. The baby, the daughter of one of the boys am often told owes his life to the readings, a Mr. House [Thomas B. House, Jr., son of Dr. Thomas B. and Carrie Salter House] - don’t know whether you have heard us speak of him or not - a son of Gertrude’s Aunt. H. L. is giving a lot of himself trying to help Mr. Sugrue, the young man who is here, since the 15th of June and will, possibly stay through the Winter. He is to try and write the book on the life of your humble servant. You have seen the preface [6/15/36 booklet - see EC’s autographed copy under 1800-26 Reports.] haven’t you - “There is a River”. Funny things happen to all of us don’t they - he (Sugrue) is a very devout Catholic, and know there is a bit of question in his mind at times about writing such about a mere man. Well this week had letter from a Priest [2019] in … asking for a reading, and the manner of approach is really wonderful - even if it is me - and what it has done for Sugrue, well a different out look. One realizes that “God moves in mysterious ways His wonders to perform.”

How is [1771] - just fine am sure. Hope she had the loveliest of summers be sure and give her our love and be sure you come by and see us. We are just as good friends as you have - am sure there are none that think more of you.

Don’t like to think of you being gone such a long time - well you will just have to write oftener. Going that far is like our friends that went to Italy, but they are back now. The war scare there sent them home - hope to see them this next week. The [470]‘s - think you met them.

Well so long as it is not a residence in the West - you see have something planned for you next summer, maybe, but who can tell.

Do hope you make it to … by all means and be sure and stop and see us. Yes - they have changed the name of Cod-iron to adiron, they let me know about it some weeks ago.

Am sure you enjoyed the treatments at Dr. Reilly’s. He is good and a very fine man. He and Mrs. Reilly also - they had the pleasure of an Hawaiian trip this last summer.

Will be looking for you, and do hope you can and will make it - all send love and regards to you and [1771].

Dear Mrs. [1770]-

Thank you very much for your card of last Sunday [saying she and [1771] had visited GD’s brother Boyd and his family in Fort Worth, Texas as they passed through] sure do envy you of seeing Thomas Jefferson. He is a darling little boy. Am sure Mrs. Davis was glad to see any one that had recently been at the Beach. Am sure too you enjoyed your visit to the Cavern. It was to me one of the most awe inspiring places I ever saw.

We are all getting along very well. Recently had a letter from Mr. [1861]‘s lady friend [2072] in Cal. She was much taken with his readings and wished to have her own life reading.

Trust the rest of your trip was fine and that you arrive safe and fine. Let us hear from you again.

R7. 1/8/40 Mrs. [1770]‘s letter to EC:

… Street, Altadena, California

My dear Edgar Cayce;

Dull heavy clouds are hanging over our beautiful Sierra Madre mountains - and soon they will open up and the much needed rain will fall upon the hungry or rather thirsty gardens - and hill sides.

How the beautiful eucalyptus & graceful pepper trees - & tall full deodar trees - grow so luxuriantly - when there are such long periods of draught - is one of the great mysteries to me! Those trees are every where, her in southern California

• and an ever source of joy to me.

On Saturday last, [1771] caught her first glimpse of the Pacific ocean. The week end storm was impending - so the ocean was not as blue & beautiful as when I first saw it six years ago. She is wide eyed and thrilled at the beauties which she has seem and such a splendid traveling companion.

The little book of poems, by Edna Greene Hines, “The Valley of Blue Moon,” is lovely. You know, after my letters this summer, how much I would enjoy her descriptions of nature - and her beautiful poems. Thanks so very much for your loving thought.

Is she one of the Norfolk, Va group? I hope to meet her some time, upon our return for I must return, mustn’t I?? Am I glad to be here - when I read of the sub zero weather in New York & Boston.

Sunday morning [1771] and I attended services at Ananda Ashrama. I have known Swami Paramananda for years - and was fortunate to find him there, for he was leaving for Boston that evening.

He divides his time between the centre here and the Boston Centre. The honey and incense are very good tasting and smelling.

A note from [1468] said, she was expecting to see you in New York soon. Better wait until the sub zero temperatures have passed. Brrr! Again I say - we are twice blessed to be here in California.

I’m wondering if you had little Thomas Jefferson - as a surprise gift - around Christmas time. His mother spoke of hoping to surprise Gladys & you all - by bringing him to Virginia Beach - while she and her husband attended some convention or Christmas party.

He was so dear - and we enjoyed his lovely mother [Burlynn Latham Davis].

I’m also wondering if [1861] went to New York during the holiday for treatment.

As I left him in …, Va. I sensed that money matters, or the lack of it, made him hesitate to start on the treatments, which the Reading suggested. I assured him that Dr. Dobbins would be understanding & helpful - and that he would make arrangements for him to pay - according to fit his circumstances.

That seemed to take quite a burden from his mind - and I hope he went to N.Y. during his vacation period.

Strange wasn’t it, that your name was mentioned just as we were leaving his home?

I haven’t contacted the lady [2072] of his choice, but shall do so shortly.

ANANDA - ASHRAMA

SWAMI PARAMANANDA OF INDIA, FOUNDER AND HEAD

The name “Ananda-Ashrama” signifies a “Retreat where the peace and joy of God are lived and taught.” The Ashrama was founded in 1923 by Swami Paramananda as an extension of The Vedanta Centre of Boston, established by him in 1909 and still a flourishing centre of spiritual activity. The Ashrama is situated in the Foot Hills of the Sierra Madre Range at La Crescenta, California. From its high terraces and hill-tops it looks out over the beautiful Verdugo Hills and through the Verdugo gap to the ocean. Its altitude extends from 2,000 to 3,000 feet.

The property covers a wide stretch of hillsides with fruit orchards, vineyards and numerous canyons. Its gardens, winding paths and many trees, make it an ideal setting for a Peace Retreat. In an enfolding crescent of irregular mountain peaks stand a number of buildings which provide residence for the community. A large and picturesque stone structure houses the women workers. There are cottages, barns, garages, a spacious Guest House, and a group of cabins occupied by the men-workers. The most imposing structure is the Temple with its arched cloisters, Library and other adjoining buildings.

TEMPLE OF THE UNIVERSAL SPIRIT

The Temple was consecrated by Swami Paramananda in 1928. Over the entrance door is the inscription “Truth is One.” This universal note is sounded again in the interior, where along the walls are niches, each a Shrine dedicated to one of the great world-religions. The windows also show medallions depicting different place of worship - a Christian Cathedral, a Greek Temple, a Mohammedan Mosque, a Jewish Synagogue, an Egyptian Temple, a Chinese Pagoda, a Hindu Temple, a Buddhist Stupa and a Shinto Shrine.

AIMS AND TEACHING

The chief aim of the Ananda-Ashrama is to provide a non-sectarian place of worship and create an atmosphere conducive to spiritual idealism, free from all bigotry and sectarian narrowness. It seeks also to provide favorable opportunity for self-expression in music, art, the drama, poetry, letters and productive industry. Workers are encouraged to develop their gifts in every line. The teaching given in Services, in Classes and in the daily life is without formula or bias. Its tenets are summed up in this one sentence from the Rig-Veda: “Truth is One, men call It by various names.” Its foundation rests on the fundamental truths proclaimed by all the great Bibles of the world. It accepts all Saviors and Prophets. It honors all Saints. It lays accent on love and service, sympathy and inclusiveness. All races and nations, all creeds and religions, find a place within its fold.

GUEST HOUSE

Exceptional advantages for retirement, rest and refreshment are offered by the Ashrama Guest House. A spacious, comfortable building open on all sides to lovely views; pergolas, sleeping porches and verandas; a large living room with eleven windows, clear cool water from the depths of a high mountain, pure milk from Ashrama cows and goats, homemade butter, honey from Ashrama hives, delightful walks, plenty of books; - these and other pleasant features create unique conditions for recuperation and recreation. There are no restrictions imposed on guests. They may contact the life of the Ashrama or not as they choose.

SWAMI PARAMANANDA

Swami Paramananda, founder of Ananda-Ashrama, is a spiritual teacher, author, poet and lecturer of wide reputation. He has lectured and taught in France, Italy, Germany, England, Switzerland, in numerous parts of America, in China, in the Malay States, in Burma and in India. The list of his published writings contains 29 titles, besides translations from the Sanskrit. The Swami is a member of the Ramakrishna Mission, which has its headquarters on the Ganges, near Calcutta, and which is one of the largest and most important religious and philanthropic organizations in India. He came to America at the close of 1906, and after two years of active teaching in New York established in 1909 the Vedanta Centre of Boston. In the same year, the Swami opened a branch Centre in Washington, D.C., which continued until the war made it advisable to suspend it. Some months each year were spent in Europe lecturing and holding Classes. A Study Group was formed in Geneva under the Swami’s guidance and inspiration, another at Florence, Italy, and there was a devoted group in Germany. The Swami spoke at Stratford-on-Avon during the Shakespearian Festival there.

The war closed his European Activities and in 1916 he established, in connection with his Boston work, the Vedanta Centre of Los Angeles, which later was temporarily suspended. It was revived in 1923 when he founded Ananda-Ashrama.

This is only a brief outline of the Swami’s work. He has been a tireless teacher of men; and wherever he has gone, he has carried the same basic and vibrant message of universality and tolerance, love and peace. He is a clear and fluent speaker, his English is flawless and he possesses a rare gift of both thought and language.

ASHRAMA PRODUCTS AND ACTIVITIES

The Ashrama maintains an extensive Publication Department and is distributing agent not only for its own books but also for many Indian Publications. Book lists sent on request. Its Arts and Crafts Department includes Hand-Weaving, Reed Work, Illuminating on Parchment, Miniatures, and other branches of handicraft.

Honey and Incense are its chief industries. The Ashrama Apiary produces several tons of honey a year. The honey is hive-ripened, which makes it digestible for the most delicate stomach. Incense is made from herbs growing on Ashrama hillsides and from Indian spices. It has a delicious fragrance and possesses also notable healing properties.

Mrs. [1770] … St. Altadena, Cal.

Dear Mrs. [1770]-

Good to have yours of the 8th - have had such unusual weather for this part of the country one wonders just what is happening. For the first time in the memory of but very few, we have had ice and snow for more than a week. Our lovely lake has been a skating rink, so we have had flocks of people of all ages, sledding, skating and the like on the lake. Such has kept me quite close, for seem to be getting am afraid to be more and more a hot house plant. It must be beautiful where you are from the lovely cards you sent - also from the leaflet enclosed. This must be a lovely retreat, oft wish that might have the privilege of going to something of the kind. At Christmas we had a lady [Enid Severy Smith, Ph.D] with us for ten days - who while now a teacher in one of N. C. Colleges - spent some ten years in India - tho she was a missionary of some Denomination. She made a study of the philosophy of the people where she lived, and is a very fine person. Later she was teacher in a college in Honolulu. We enjoyed her very much only I was sick part of the time - and missed out on some of her talks.

Glad you liked the little Book. No have never met the Author [Edna Greene Hines] - only know her through correspondence. She lives in Watertown N.Y. Gave a life reading for her a few years ago - just after she lost her husband - and she was told she could write poems that would help others - and give an outlet for her self - as well as giving her something to do. This is her first attempt to print any thing - save the few that have been accepted by some publications here and there. Liked it myself, when she sent me a copy, and felt there were a few who would appreciate her try’s. There is one or two - that to me are especially beautiful, and think they give one a uplift. But to have been able to help a bit one who must have so very lonely - well that of its self makes me hopeful. Glad you liked it.

How time does fly!! Yours of Jan. 12th certainly makes me realize it. How is the unusual weather - still ice skating on your favorite fish pond?

The planet earth is raising its vibrations - and in so doing strange things are happening.

I’m indeed fortunate to be here. Today the sun is shining brightly - and flowers are growing in the gardens. Narcissi, Japonicas & Violets - it’s difficult to realize that it is February.

We are visiting with a friend whose home is in Tulare, in the San Joquin Valley. We drove over the ridge from Hollywood and our first glimpse of the valley was strangely beautiful.

It had been raining & the sun was trying to break thru the low hanging clouds - suddenly we saw snow capped mountains with clouds beneath & above them - real rainbow hues seemed to hang over the valley. I had a feeling of gazing upon another plane than that of earth. The High Sierras - or the Sierra Nevada range of mountains are the northern boundary of this valley. Great acres of cotton are grown here as well as acres of vineyards. The cotton growing industry is still young. It was not here six years ago.

Last night I attended a church supper with my hostess. A missionary from southern India spoke - and he certainly gave us a vivid picture of the schools and work which his group are trying to do for those poor deluded people.

We met [2072], [1861]‘s lady friend. She is a sweet person

• quite a lone eaglet. So shy and quiet & reserved.

We are kindred spirits and have much in common. She hopes to be able to go to Virginia this summer and of course you will meet.

She is no stranger - and I believe you will feel that, when you see her. She and [1861] are very much in love - and I feel that she can assist him in many ways.

Dear [1770]- Thanks for yours of the 2nd - also card received some days before but this has been the worst confused household for the past ten days or two weeks, Gertrude, Miss Gladys and myself have all had the Flu. Gertrude is still abed, quite ill, rest of us have gotten able to go again, but not fully at our selves as yet. Isn’t that something. We certainly have had our share of bad weather, but is better again, that too will help am sure.

The changes are at hand in the earth am sure - have you noticed the evening sky - there are so many of the major planets visible at one time, and the sight is really awe-inspiring. Believe it is said this hasn’t happened as now since the year 1 - so guess there is being enacted something that will in a few years bring a new message to this old world. All are so prone to think of just a few days making such changes, but the preparation takes time - and we are usually forewarned by the nature of things, but realize it after it has passed.

You have been indeed fortunate to be out of this severe weather there has been here. Note from the lady [Edna Greene Hines in Watertown, N.Y.] who wrote “Valley of Blue Moon” said the snow about her place was then 14 feet deep, that she hadn’t been out of her home for over three weeks.

The views there must be lovely - am looking forward to some day seeing a few of them at least. The view and the feel of nature as you drove over the ridge must have been lovely. No wonder the Psalmist said “I’ll lift up mine eyes unto the Hills - from whence cometh my help.”

Man’s attempt to cultivate crops in the valleys must give one the feeling of man’s feeble attempt to link the infinite with the finite, but makes the scene the more real at times - as well as destroy some of the beauty.

Your message from the Missionary from India must have given you something of the message as we had from the lady who was here at Christmas. She spent seven years as a missionary in India, but she went in to the teachings there more than many of these workers do, and she seemed to appreciate their longing for something, that hasn’t been answered fully by the local teachings, yet made many question their own beliefs.

Glad to hear of Miss [2072] - do hope she comes east this summer - from our very limited correspondence, feel as if am acquainted with her already. Did I tell you of [1861]‘s severe illness just after Christmas - he said the reading just saved him. From their readings they have been wed before - or did you see her reading? Miss Gladys says she gave you a copy of the Congress report when you were here, but for fear it has gotten misplaced am having her send you another copy in this mail, so be on the out look for same.

Of course we haven’t gotten off to N.Y. as have all been sick - guess we will when get straightened out, and will possibly see Mrs. [1468] and the rest of the N.Y. groups. My dear Edgar Cayce:-

You may not hear from us very often - but I can assure you - we are endeavoring to assist you every day - and sometimes it seems to me that I can actually hear your voice.

When I awaken at 7:30 A.M. (WHEN I DO) it is then 10:30 A.M. at Virginia Beach - and you are seeking attunement with the “higher power,” - so that you may bring peace, or happiness

• or health and we hope enlightenment to some seeking soul - rest assured our prayers are with you. Again at 12:30 noon when we are lying in the sun, we give thanks for your gift - so that you may continue to be the “perfect channel” - as you have been - during the past years.

[1771] and I have taken a furnished cottage - with a friend of ours. We enjoy Balboa Island - even if it is only a tiny speck on the map. Its about ten squares long and not more than four or five wide - we can walk around it in a half hour. Here we find the privacy - (in our back yard), for sun bathing - reading - writing - and just being thankful.

Thankful for the heavenly blue sky - the meadow larks song

• the serenade of the darling linnets - snow on the distant San Jacinto mountains - green hills - the clear skies at eventime - when the parade of heavenly planets seem closer to us than ever before.

• with the hope that [1771] might find just the right position there. Now that she is included on the trip to Hawaii - we will not drive to Seattle until next fall. She is thrilled at the idea and is doing her share to assist Auntie - who must see to it, that the passage money is saved by out July sailing.

Living expenses shared - makes the trip assured.

We miss seeing [2072]. She is such a quiet sweet person and the light of her soul - shines from her eyes. I really wish we could see more of each other. [1861] is indeed a fortunate young man.

Thanks for the “Eighth Annual Congress Booklet”. Gladys was right she did give me one - which I found after reading your letter. That means I own you fifty cents but I won’t forget it.

A friend of mine [2247] - a teacher of Noyes Rhythm - is here in Hollywood Cal. She had hoped to teach here - but has found it impossible to find any pupils - and is now doing work - foreign to her - just trying to keep the wolf from the door. We had her with us over the week-end - as she is so worried & distracted. I gave her some of your literature & she was so interested - but of course has no money at this moment. She needs help - as to her next step - but can’t afford a Reading - at the present time. Is there any way

• in which a Reading may be had - & paid for later when her circumstances have improved - thru advise given in the Reading? She is on my heart & mind - but I can give her no monetary aid - I have taken some lessons from her - I have taken some lessons from her - but I really can’t afford them.

She is a wonderful teacher of Noyes Rhythm work - and is most creative - & to see her working day in & day out - for $15.00 per week - is saddening indeed.

If she could make the right contacts - with moneyed people

Dear Mrs. [1770]

Thanks for yours of the 15th, yes arrived on my birthday.

Thanks to each of you for good wishes - lets hope this may reach you by yours and it brings our love and good wishes to you.

Appreciate your letters lot more than know how to tell you, but just hope you feel and know it. Appreciate the cards you have dropped me once and while also. And am sure can feel the tuning in of many at the times I am attempting to be the channel of hope to some one else, if knew how to put into words how very much this means to me. Am sure others would try also, but certainly appreciate your help - and it is real help. Think I am realizing more and more it is being thankful that gives us Life More Abundant - for He certainly taught a life or expansion through thankfulness.

Must be lovely there for you and [1771], wouldn’t in [it?] be glorious to walk in on you some time there. Am sure the Island is lovely - your description sounds like Paradise, and a bit like the description some one has given of a colony on an Island off that coast.

I once had a night boat trip off the Fla. coast, and for the first time saw the Heavens of the Southern sky, will never forget it. Had a most wonderful of experiences - it recalled to me something “Paul” once said “whether in the body or out of the body, cannot tell, but heard and saw things that cannot be spoken” so have a faint idea of what you mean. Know it is lovely.

Nice that you have some one sharing the expense - if they are congenial. Giving [1771] a lesson also - one that will stand her in fine stead some of these days. Am sure she is a most fortunate young lady, but am sure she appreciates it also, and that makes it all the more worthwhile.

Had a letter from Miss [2072] - she must be lovely. Did I tell you they asked me to perform the ceremony - the most complementary thing most ever had happen to me. But she promises to come on here that I may be present - isn’t that lovely? She spoke so sweet and lovely of you and [1771].

What a lovely change in plans - am sure [1771] is thrilled. If there is one place would like to go more than another it is to Hawaii - have heard so much from those who have been there. The young man who is here - Sugrue - is constantly talking about it. Then one of the Sailor boys who has been very much interested in the work here - has recently been there wrote me many letters from there and was just taken in with the place - think he intends settling down there when his time is out in the navy.

Such happy surprises as [1771] had planned for me - the darling child had been busy for days - preparing them for “THE DAY”. Such tokens of love and devotion are very heart warming - in this day and generation.

Thank you for your good wishes. You say my letter arrived on “your very own day” - JUST WHAT IS THE EXACT DATE?

We’ve been introduced to “high fog,” these last few days - but today the sun has ventured forth - out into the open once again and once again the writing pad has been brought out into the open.

In your letter you spoke of our sharing the expenses of our cottage - as (quote “giving a lesson to [1771] - also one that will stand her in good stead some of these days.”) She smiled & wondered if you knew - or HOW you knew just how troubled she has been. Tell her she will possibly realize that I am some times psychic, and that is how I knew what she was meeting at this time. A good lesson in patience and understanding for her and she will have needs of same a little later on.

Some one sent me my chart for My birthday - would you like to see what they had to say about me. As you have studied Astrology possibly you can interpret it for me much better than I. Do not mean that it is such a lovely one, that wish to flaunt it about, but those whom feel are really interested, might like to see it. Have sent it to some one for perusal just now but will be back soon.

You with fog - well we had one of the deepest snows of the winter for Easter. Such a thing hasn’t happened in the history of the weather bureau but some one said it happened in 1871 only other time on record. Have just written Miss [2247] - you know will be glad to help as best we may any friend of yours, that feel should have the kind of help we may be able to give. Her letter came while I was in N.Y. and while Gertrude sent it on to me didn’t have a chance to write until today. Just got back last night and writing today. Will ask Tom [Sugrue] about the numerology [for Miss [2247]‘s name] after we get the reading. Yes will send the report on my chart when it comes in. Of course several have asked that I send it to them for analyzing.

We had a very fine meeting in N.Y. on the 15th - had it in the same room at the McAlpine, and the room was quite full.

We stopped with Mr. and Mrs. Harrison in Bronxville, N.Y. was busy each and every period from the day we landed until we left. Several people spoke of you, especially Nancy Lansdale. She was out one evening, and is making my Arch-o-type [archetype?] - know that isn’t what she calls them, but is my own term. [1771] & I took a week end trip to Ojai, Cal. with Miss [2247] & a friend of hers. The mountains of the Coast Range and its’ foot hills were beautiful & the Ojai Valley itself

• with its’ orange groves (all in blossom) - to walnut groves
• it’s wonderful live oak trees - was an inspiration. We had an over night cabin - close to a mountain stream - for we found a restful place in one of the canyons. We prepared our own meals - which was fun for all of us - and less costly.

Krishma Murti lives in the valley & has a discussion group

• of not more than twenty persons - twice a week.

The Theosophists own a great deal of property in the Ojai Valley - and it certainly is an inspirational spot.

The sturdy mountains are most inspiring. One feels a higher vibration or something - in the place.

Daylight saving time is about to appear again. Do you change at Virginia Beach? My friend […] is anxious for a Reading. I told her of your trip to New York & that she’d be hearing from you very soon.

Wrote you a line in care of Miss [2247] just after came back, didn’t know whether you had left the Island or not - didn’t have address so sent in her care. Hope you received it alright. So may repeat such of what may have told you about the trip to N.Y. Didn’t get either letter from your friends until after was in N.Y. So had no chance to answer until came back - just hope can help.

It has just begun to be warm spring weather her in last few days. Saw quite a snow while in N.Y. and understand they had same here - notice in weather comparisons that our area has been one of the coolest in the country for the past week, but lovely out today, also yesterday but warmer today and makes me wish to dig in ground and go fishing.

Am sure the mountains there are beautiful this time of year. Might get out that way next month - friend wishes me to go to Arizona with him. If do hope to go a bit farther and see you all.

The valley must be lovely - and the vibrations - well just beyond compare yet. Guess there are enough of other vibration to keep a balance - and one has to choose after all, for one extreme goes with the other.

I’m wondering if you have heard from anyone by the name of Dr. Carl Maisel [no Rdg.]? He is a biological chemist - with a laboratory - in Bloomfield N. J. (The Schering Corp.). O’Neill was given to him - with the hope that he would become interested enough to investigate your Readings. He is interested in assisting suffering humanity - and has many of his discoveries upon the market.

I’ve never heard from him, but I wonder if he became interested?

Was a surprise to me that [1468] was thinking of getting married again, but guess that is the best. Information seemed to think so while - personally would have thought so - and don’t know why.

You must be keeping yourself scarce - aren’t there plenty of males in that part of the world - but the best ones do live back this way. Yes? No?

There was a man who went from Mich. to Hollywood - met a friend of ours there - by the way you and [1771] might like to meet this young man there. His name is Walter Goetz Republic Productions - 4024 N. Radford St., North Hollywood, Cal., he knows the work by personal application. His Father [Harry M. Goetz] is a Trustee of the Assn. His Uncle [William Goetz] is a V. Pres. of M.G.M. Look him up if you find time he would like to meet you am sure, and is a very nice young man.

Would that could get out there - am thinking of a trip - but the reading this afternoon will decide that for me - if do guess Gertrude and I will go to Texas for few days. Yes - had letter from a Dr. Maisel. Sent some data - but haven’t heard any more. Will try and cultivate it if hear again.

Mr. O’Neill was at the talk the other evening. Guess might write pages regards little [2156] - yet don’t think would do the subject even half honor yet. Couldn’t tell you very much of just what her messages are - have many of them but they are clothed in a very unusual language. But the child herself is just darling - she was here with her Mother yesterday - on way to N.C. looking for a retreat - or place for her family to move to from Penn. Has been told to move

• cause I do not know.

One of the tinings [things?] that has fascinated me about the child - is a snap shot taken of her when she was Christened

• in a Buddhist Temple in Conn. Have the idea that I know a little about pictures as was a professional photographer for 20 years - but there are more faces in that picture than ever saw in one before. In fact is the only one ever saw when the faces were not apparently imposed. These are formed by by the shadows - very few do I recognize but a few I do - Like the face of Mary - the Mother and the Christ with crown of thorns - and there is a picture of a statue of Buddha. Emerson - and many many others. It is just fascinating to me to look at - almost forget that they are drawn possibly by the child - or just what wonder if I know.

Had reading for another friend of Mr. [1861] - this one is in N.C. Must have been a friend in the appearance before this.

No we are still on standard time here - makes us get mixed up now and then but many places across the country has daylight time - have more in South this time than have ever had like in Ga., Ala. and like.

Fishing is not bad - had nice mess yesterday - fresh out of the lake.

Dear [1770]:

Just home again from a 12 day forced lay off for rest. A friend made it possible for Gertrude and I to have a little trip. Went to Texas, Ky., La., and Ala. Nice rest, came home at noon today - find a letter from Mrs. [1468]. Very much upset at my telling you she was to be married - she feels that I should not have said any thing even if there was any thing in it. So hope it won’t cause any disturbance

• tho she seemed much upset that I was the one that told it. Hope you will be easy on that - for guess shouldn’t have said any thing - but didn’t mean any harm by it - but guess that is the way a fellow gets himself in dutch - and breaks up friendships that he really values.

Just this note at this time will write you full in day or so. Just want to get myself straightened out if can - please don’t get me mixed up.

Feel a lot better after the trip - but guess have to rest a day before know just how feel - reading Saturday for Miss [2247].

Hope you and [1771] are both well and happy. Fine crop of strawberries just now - and they are good.

Dear [1770]

After getting off my chest the upset about the flare up from [1468], maybe can answer yours of the 17th. As said Gertrude and I got back from our whirlwind visit yesterday

• just spent a day or so here and there but renewed many old friendships, and it gives one a sense of love don’t believe one secures any other way. To walk in on old friends of 20 and 30 years ago and find them with open arms, well it is bracing in away that makes life not seem so hollow or shallow or even shadowy, but bright and cheerful, and really worth having tried to live right. Yes - would like to have gone much farther on to Cal. and the like but this was made possible by a good friend and beggars just choose so much at once.

Haven’t as yet of course heard of the experiments made on the special readings, they will come along am sure, in their own time, but will let you know.

No we gave no readings while away - was just 12 days of rest and run and meeting old friends - of 20 and 30 years ago.

Haven’t heard any more from Dr. Maisel - hope do tho and that we may become better acquainted, for any one that is of special interest to you makes a closer feeling to me - just why don’t know, but count you as that kind of a friend - just feel close to you.

Glad Miss [2116] was pleased with her reading - hope it helps out - as so many tell me theirs have. Miss [2247] is tomorrow as believe told you.

Heard from [1861] this afternoon - he tells me the wedding will be about the 20th of June. Such a lovely letter - one will always wish to keep - what a fine boy he is. Would that could tell he and Miss [2072] how dear they are to me more than most people and differently from any have ever known in my life just in away there are no words to tell it - and that he is getting help all praise to a loving GOD.

Am sure [1771] is reveling in the beauties about her - and preserving the beauty for others to enjoy also. Would like to hear some of the vocalizing must be good else there would have been complaints - How is that?

Well we did have a good time - and feel better for the renewed strength gained from friendships, what would the world be like with out friends.

Dear [1770]:

Thanks for yours of the 26th - yes, think the rest and renewing of old friendships helped a lot - made me feel much younger.

Oh the flowers in some of the places were beautiful - in Texas were in the Rose center - and there were acres and acres of gorgeous roses - and the fields full of the Primrose all colors and the same in La. and Ala. There the flowers were all a bloom of ever description - just loved them.

Suggested to Miss [2247] that she have you if at all possible go over her reading with her - just hope it helps a lot. Guess she did yesterday as she should have had it by or before then. Yes, was worried about [1468] for unusual for her to hop on me with both feet. Hope she gets alright.

Send a complete set of Data to Dr. Maisel, several case reports and other data. Bulletins were sent out while I was away - let me know if you didn’t get yours for have heard most others have gotten theirs.

My the suffering that must be abroad - especially just now

• you are right we can and must pray for all.

Thanks for the primrose. It was lovely, they press so nicely - have kept a flower book since I was about 18 - so some of them are pretty old but many have kept lovely.

Almost envy you of the lovely trip to Hawaii - but of course don’t at all - but hope you both have the loveliest time ever - just remember us here once and a while.

My Dear [1770]

Thanks for yours of the 7th - am going to miss you a lot at the Congress this year, lets just hope next year you will be here. Ah, ha! Be sure and let me know what you make out of the story of Ra-Ta. One lady whom have never met wrote me yesterday, she felt it was the most fascinating story she ever read, that she felt that she had actually experienced every thing told of in the story. Curious isn’t it?

Haven’t heard from Mrs. [1831] - sure remember her very well

• hope she does come. Think we will have a nice programme. [1861] and [2072] hope to be here the greater part of the time, coming Wednesday afternoon. [1861]‘s reading next morning and will depend on that how soon he goes to N.Y.

Had just a card from [2072] - am looking for a real experience when meet her, can hardly wait. Would be at the wedding only have some one from out of town here that day - but they will come directly here after they are married in … and have their apartment arranged for them.

Thank you for what ever it was you sent me by her - hope she doesn’t forget to give it to me.

Have such high hope for [1861] being helped - he has done wonders for himself - from his mental - and spiritual reading, has written fully about it and it is just beautiful. Yes, from their readings they are real helps one for the other - and to have had any part in same - and they both seem to think I have - makes me real happy - and not a bit perturbed as have over some experiences of that kind.

Oh yes - by all mean you are coming east - for there is a lot of work you and I have to get out as yet you know, possibly you didn’t know it but you haven’t gotten rid of me by a long shot.

And am very happy to feel that you feel there is a real purpose in your meeting [1861] and then have known [2072], you are most lucky.

[2072] doesn’t know it - wonder have I told you - if her reading was correct, she was my sweetheart when she was here before. So you see how I feel about meeting her - and possibly explains something of what you say she has felt about me. Do you reckon?

Yes - had letter from Miss […] [no Rdg.] - wrote her but haven’t heard from her any more, sent her booklets and all. Haven’t been returned so must have been delivered - as all mail has postage guaranteed even of the 2nd class nature from here.

Do hope Miss [2247] takes her reading seriously - feel she has real help there would she make the effort to try it out

• but as you say she may feel it requires too much effort to come east again - but her classes could be much better formed in the east…very interesting gave a lady [1947] at one of the Schools in N.C. an out line of a new kind of work among High School pupils. She has tried it out this last winter - has a report on 100 girls, is to present proof of the help it has given over 75 percent of that number at the Congress
• one of the most amazing things have ever seen - but sends her to Santa Barbara next winter for just two years.

Will appreciate it if you see Mr. Taylor - am sure you will find him a lovely man - Goetz may be East as just heard he was in a meeting in N.Y. recently.

No more from Dr. Maisel as yet - but hope I may - possibly he may come to Congress.

You must have enjoyed meeting with the Red Cross - my what a great need there must be over seas now - the destruction

How I have enjoyed and do enjoy your letters is a real pleasure to write just hope can make them interesting enough. Gertrude took cold while we were away when we visited a Rodeo the dust and cold - and she has been having bad time with her face and head. Is some better now but has been real bad. Yes was fine to meet old friends, and have heard from several of them. Makes it all the more real.

Will be thinking of you - and guess [2072] and I will have your ears burning when we get to talking about you - you may be sure there will be nothing bad however.
