This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of August, 1943, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [1770], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:10 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern War Time. Seattle, Washington.

1. GC: You will answer the questions regarding this body as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. [1770].

3. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Have I a chronic sinus condition in the upper sinuses (behind the eyes and forehead)? (A) The body has a chronic sinus disturbance. For this we would use twice each day a spray with full strength, for this body, GLYCO-THYMOLINE.

Have this warm but not hot. This will not reach all the way back, but apply also across the face the GLYCO-THYMOLINE PACKS. Use two thicknesses of cotton cloth saturated in the warm GLYCO-THYMOLINE. These, with the spray used two or three times daily, we should find a great deal of change and betterment for the body, we do not mean to use the GLYCO-THYMOLINE hot but just sufficiently warm so that the heat causes the certain oils in the elements to loosen themselves, so as to enter into the cavities of the nasal passages and into those areas so distressed at times. For these are the source of those disturbances that cause quick pulsation of heart, or the slipping or skipping of the heart beat also.

5. (Q) Please give me a remedy, inhalant or otherwise, for constant catarrhal dripping in back of throat? (A) This, again, will be aided by the use of those properties indicated for the body.

6. (Q) What causes pain in left hand, between thumb and first finger - an acid condition? (A) This is neuritis from toxic forces; and the body should keep or have better eliminations. Take those properties that are of the senna-base, such as Caldwells’ or California Syrup of Figs or Caldwells’ Syrup of Pepsin.

7. (Q) What is condition of my blood stream? (A) With sufficient amount of acidity in the body, the blood stream might easily become very much affected. It is tended towards irritations at present but these are showing improvement and will improve faster with the application of those things suggested for the body.

8. (Q) Glandular system? (A) The glandular system reaches those stages about this period in the life of the entity, when there are changes in all of the glandular forces, and these are at variance in the present; but not a great deal save in the glands of the face, the head and those parts of the body and those that assimilate foods without digestion.

9. (Q) Nervous system? (A) The reflexes of the nervous system are good but taxation occurs very easily.

10. (Q) Any other suggestions for my well being? (A) Keep the attitude of constructive thinking. Be creative in the approach to every subject. Keep the faith.

R1. 4/25/43 Wednesday, Mrs. [1770]‘s letter to EC:

My dear Edgar:-

Thank you for the check reading - as usual - it is proving - very beneficial.

Oh! if I could only sit down & have a heart to heart talk with you!!! - but, as that cannot be - I’ll have to chat with you - in this fashion.

[1641] surprised me last Thursday - just as I was enroute to the Marine Hospital - for Gray Lady duties. He drove there with me - and I sent him to my 7th floor - where he entertained a couple of young men - relating his experiences to them.

HE IS SUCH A FINE BOY - your ears must have been burning - for we talked about you. He came home with me & remained for dinner - & I’m expecting him this evening - and if he is not transferred we hope to see him often.

I’m troubled about [1771]. You know of her friendship - with the boy - called […], his name is really […] (Born: March 12 - 1914). His home is directly across the street, from [2072] in …, Va. You probably met his darling mother

• (Mrs. […]), while you were visiting in … (I’m sure you found rest & peace - visiting with [2072] & [1861].) Well to get back to […]. He & [1771] have been dear friends since they met - at art school in N.Y. City. You met him - when we called upon you - in Dec. 1939 - just before we took our trip westward. Its been four years - since they’ve seen each other - & they’ve written - just friendly letters - & exchanged gifts - at Christmas - Birthdays & at Easter time.

Now comes [4053] - born March 1st, 1914 in Denmark (same year as […] - same sign of Pisces). I thought he was NOT serious - but that is not the case. He is very much in love with [1771] - in fact - he proposed to her & she refused him. In hurting him, her own EMOTIONS have been aroused (for the first time) and [4053] had decided - that he spoke too quickly - & he is willing to wait - with the hope that he can change her mind. He is being transferred to San Francisco - on Sept. 15th & he’s hoping that [1771] will follow him - by the new year.

[1771] has written […] - about [4053] - of their outings together - riding, swimming etc. - & suddenly, in his letters, you begin to feel that he is getting worried - but he does not express his own feelings for [1771] - & SHE feels that he has only a deep feeling of friendship for her.

I truly believe (if I read my child correctly) that [1771] would be able to care for [4053] IF […] were not so deeply rooted in HER sub conscious or unconscious mind.

The two boys - are thoughtful - spiritually minded - lovers of nature etc - very much alike in SO many ways - both - will be ideal husbands - to whom ever they may marry.

This is my question. Would it be right for [1771] to have a Reading - asking questions - about this whole matter? Her heart, (as yet) has not been opened to [4053] but she says, “He IS SO SWEET.”

You’ve given Readings - on the advisability of marriage - have you not?

[4053] - “has been spending hours with Mr. Cayce,” (as he puts it) while reading “There is a River.” He is open to it - & is eager to know more, & meeting [1641] - has impressed him too. He said, “he’d like to have a Life Reading - that probably he & [1771] had met before - in the long ago.” Perhaps they have - and a READING might release her - in analyzing her own true feelings.

Could you give me an idea of the correct procedure for QUESTIONS on this subject - and would a Reading of that type necessitate a long period of your time? Would the names of all parties - year of birth - etc - be sufficient - or would it be necessary for you to contact [1771] personally - for the information? - and lastly. -

Do YOU ADVISE HER TO HAVE ONE? She’s anxious to have one - IF it is RIGHT for her to ask for one - & she say - “she’d abide by what ever the Reading advises.”

Marriage is such a serious affair - it takes time & great thought. The three of them - are not drawn together - purely on the PHYSICAL plane.

R2. 8/31/43 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1770]:

My dear [1770]

Oh wouldn’t it be nice to have a good heart to heart talk again. Sure missed seeing you through these years you have been in the west. Thanks for your looking after [1641] - we think a very great deal of him. Every one here does, one of those sorter adopted by every one in the family so any little kindness shown him is surely appreciated.

Sure it would be a pleasure to try and help for [1771], can we just find the time, had thought some way it was all settled with her - and maybe so but others out of line is that it? Of course could take it from [1771]‘s stand point, but might be much better if the young man in question had a life reading and questions, but that would hardly be fair for the other man unless he had one also. So guess it would be best to take it from [1771]‘s view and see what it has to say, so if she will get some questions up will see just what can be done about it - open periods are the last of next June

• but will see if can be put in some where, if she is anxious to have something settled in her own mind.

Funny things do happen, that name [4053] - has sprung up in the most unexpected places, played an important part in the lives of some of my old friends [[953] and [583]] made it possible for me to hear from many others and has generally played havoc with me in so many ways this year and now another of the same name is in love with one of my best friends, must be a nice fellow.

Each of our own boys asked of course about the girls they married. The approach is either the Life reading or as said from [1771]‘s stand point direct questions, for that would possibly give the associations of each in her life some where, then she would doubtless have to choose.

If not two life readings of the boys then from [1771]‘s personality to be sure, that possibly the best way for her. Did for my own boys - so would say yeas, but she would have to make up her own mind about asking for it to be sure, and would be a very interesting reading, and hope an honest fair one for each young man and most of all for [1771].

My what a responsibility for me - but if the choice made for [1861] and [2072] is a fair sample or our boys - well have nothing to say but good about it all. Mother […] had much to say about it when was there. She is a very lovely person, and [2072] and [1861] certainly seem happy.

All keeping busy here - have you seen Sept. Coronet? Do see it, has about ruined me for time. Literally hundreds of letters, wires and phone calls daily. So, am snowed under - hoping for help and light from some where and can easily guess where.

R3. 9/17/43 Friday, [1770]‘s letter to EC:

My dear Edgar: -

Thank you so very much - for your letter of Aug. 31st - and you’ll be hearing from [1771] direct, as soon as she is given time to think things out. [4053] is leaving for San Francisco - on Oct 1st - and he is taking most of her spare time - and waking hours.

He is a persistent young man - but I know [1771] will never give him the answer he is hoping for - until she SEES and TALKS with […].

We have friends in …, Nebraska. Mrs. [3024] is visiting her daughter there, who is expecting a new arrival. Remember Mrs. [3024] had a Physical Reading just a couple of months ago? Well - I had a sudden inspiration last week & I wrote [3024] asking if […] & [1771] could meet - at her daughters home - for had asked [1771] to meet him somewhere - about half way across our great country - if it could be arranged.

Upon looking at the map - Nebraska seemed half way & [3024] had written that her daughter […] had a TEN room house. Guess the ten rooms gave me the inspiration.

Anyway - they’ve written back such a heart warming - generous invitation for [1771] & […] to visit them - that now we hope that […] can get the time off. Seeing each other & talking it all out will free [1771] - whether she accepts […] or not.

She wants a Reading & you’ll be hearing from her - before too long I hope.

[1641] is the dearest boy. We’ve adopted him too. I told him I was too young in spirit to be his mother, but I would be his older sister!! So now - I’m “SIS”. We went out together Saturday last & he & [4053] had breakfast with us Sunday A.M. then we all went to Church. He met a young girl at one of the ships dances & last evening he brought her here to call. She’s a pleasant person & I think they are going to enjoy each others company.

Speaking of Readings I’d like a Spiritual & Mental Reading & another Life Reading - so put those on the books, otherwise I’ll have to wait too many YEARS. Notify me when you want the questions.

By the way - our minister Mr. Allyn I. Lorimer - still has my copy of “There is a River.” He’s been loaning it to other ministers. I’m going to buy him his own copy. I’ve not pushed the book here is Seattle, for I feel that you have all you can do - now - but I’ll do so - if you wish it. I can go to the P. I. & ask them for a Review.

The article in the Coronet is just splendid - The Readers Digest should copy it too.

You’re getting famous - but you are used to that! Wish it were possible for me to assist you in some way. I feel so useless - I know nothing of short hand or typing & that is what you need the most. Really - I mean this - if I can help you in any OTHER way - please let me know.

If [1771] marries - I’ll be alone & I want to be useful to someone - somewhere.

Think this over for I sincerely want to live a useful life. My help is no longer needed by [1771] - in fact, perhaps she’d be more free - if I were not here.

Give my love to Gertrude & Gladys. Oh yes - the Congress Bulletin came yesterday & I’ve read parts of it already. Its always an inspiration.

R4. 9/28/43 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1770]:

My dear [1770]

Glad to have yours of the 17th - had note from [1771], thank her until get chance to write. Also had letter from [4053]. As you possibly know he has an appointment for a Life reading. Is some time in advance but put it in soon as possible, but my have we been flooded with requests since the article in Coronet. Am sure [1771] wants to make up her own mind, and she should.

What a lovely arrangements for the meeting am sure it will be a meeting. My how many times have seen such through the years, and how very few were settled in one meeting like that, depends on the personality of each I suppose, and what they use as the measuring stick for judgements.

Am glad you liked [1641]. He is a very lovely young man. I think lots of [1641], in fact we all do here. Am glad you have been so nice to him, know he appreciates it. Haven’t heard from him in some time, suppose he is too busy to have time to write.

Have put you down for your readings. You have the day - Sept. the 8th, 1944 morning and afternoon. Hope tho you will be here by or before that time, but is the first open periods we have.

Quiet interesting about your Minister and - There is a River - hope may hear what some of them think of it. Yes we have much more than we can do but wish the book to be read if people find it worth reading. Are selling a lot of them from the Coronet article.

Readers Digest have considered it, but have held up because they did not wish to smother me with requests, and they have been considerate thank goodness. When [1771] marries you come here won’t you. Won’t be so bad of that am sure. Hope to have a guest house some day. Let [1641] tell you about that and tell me what you think of the idea.

So think the idea over, don’t think it is bad.

Gertrude is fair, hasn’t been feeling so good tho last day or so, with both boys over seas. Gets pretty blue at times, the grand-sons don’t altogether take their places. H. L. has just been sent out, have no idea which area he has been sent but is over the Atlantic, as his P. O. is N. Y.

R5. 10/14/43 Mrs. [1770]‘s letter to EC:

[First part of this letter in used in 3527-1, Par. B1.]

[1641] tells us - that he will be leaving this port by the end of the month. We’ll be so sorry, for we’ve enjoyed knowing him and are going to miss him. I’ve got to knit him a sleeveless sweater before he goes…

He & [1771] are going to a dance given for the members of his ship - on Tuesday evening next. [4053] is in San Francisco & strange to say, [1771] doesn’t seem to miss him very much - she may later - but I have “ME DOOTS.”

All is quiet along our home front, but I know full well other tests are coming & I believe that I will face them, this time.

My love to Gertrude & Gladys - I’ll answer your lovely letter very soon - this, is just to tell you about [3527].

I’m glad your going to have some help at the end of this month. Heavens! You need it.

R6. 10/29/43 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1770]:

Mrs. [1770] Seattle 1, Washington

Dear [1770],

Thanks a lot for yours of the 14th. Well, I suppose from the way my ears continue to burn, someone must be talking about me most of the time. I hope Dr. Larrimore [Rev. Allyn I. Lorimer, Congregationalist] is fine, and won’t find it too hard to fit the philosophy in with some of his own ideas.

We find days when practically every letter is from someone who has read “There is a River” which seems to indicate that the book is just gradually getting around. It was quite interesting what you had to say about the young man. I would like very much to see him and talk with him. We are certainly having a hard time trying to reserve time for even emergency appointments. Even when we have a day or two open before we know along comes another one. Consequently even these are about six months in advance. I think, I have heard from this young man, Mr. [3527]. Of course there are so many it is impossible really for me to remember all of them, but I think we have already sent him the data. I have tried to add enough help and yet, it seems that day by day we are getting farther and farther behind, with each department of it. I just do need a guiding hand, and if I ever needed Hugh Lynn it is RIGHT NOW!

I had a letter from [1641] the other day too. I haven’t as yet, had a chance to reply, for my own personal mail has gotten far behind. So far, in fact, I am having to dictate it now. When are you going to be ready to come over this way?

Gertrude just heard a cousin [Edith Estella Smith, Stepdaughter of GC’s aunt, Mrs. Kate B. Salter Smith] she was raised with had passed on. It was one of those cases where it has been expected for a long time, but I don’t guess we are ever, any of us, really prepared for it when it does come. Gertrude is feeling pretty well.

We heard from the boys the other day. Sallie had a long letter from Hugh Lynn. He is in Southern England, visiting some of the old places. He said he felt like he was almost at home - something evidently reminded him of the long, long ago.

R7. 11/25/43, Thanksgiving Day, Mrs. [1770]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar: -

We are indeed very THANKFUL - thankful that you are our friend and thankful too - that we are still together.

[1771] presented me with a lovely corsage and a box of candy - chocolates which I’m not sure I can eat.

Since Nov. 8th - I’ve had an itchy rash on my arms - neck & shoulders. It appeared so suddenly. I’d eaten peanuts covered with chocolate & I guess perhaps that they were the cause.

Dr. MacWhinnie has been giving me “shots” of some kind into my veins & an exterior wash - which is a poison, if taken internally. These last few days its disappeared, but night before last [1771] brought home some peanut taffy & I bought some chocolates. Of course I indulged & today the rash is appearing again on my hands.

Dr. MacWhinnie said it was a germ I PICKED UP so I thought I could eat some candy. He found the blood on the ALKALINE side which was indeed a surprise to me for my Readings all say I’m inclined to be ACID. Anyway, IF you weren’t so darn popular I’d have telephoned you asking for a Reading as to why I suddenly react to either peanuts or chocolates. There must be a reason & Dr. MacWhinnie doesn’t seem to know.

Otherwise I’m just fine. I heard from Nancy Lansdale & she wrote that you were there in New York. I’m sure your meetings must have been very successful.

I ordered three copies of, There is a River, from one of the stores, here in Seattle weeks & weeks ago but thus far - I haven’t received them.

[1641] has gone - and we do miss him - we’re both writing to him. [1771] made him some peanut butter cookies & sent him some fruit cake which she made. I made him a sweater - but I’m sure he won’t need it - if he is in the So. Pacific. [1771] heard from him & he wrote of the HEAT.

Your letter of Nov. 1st - about the Living Sponsorship - interests us both. Would that I could mail you my hundred check immediately. I’d have to take out some War Bonds to do so. Would it be possible for me to pledge my $100 in the the coming year, 1944.

[1771] also wishes to be a part of this Living Sponsorship. She loved your letter which arrived yesterday and appreciated the fact that you had written it yourself - YOU - who are so busy - giving your life for others.

If I could let you use my lovely grand piano - which is in storage in New York City - at the Steinway Piano Co. on 57th Street - I’d gladly do so. Its large & the cost of moving might be too much - but I’d love to have it used - if it were possible.

We are dining today with the Frink family - eighteen will sit down to the festive board. Another thing for us to be thankful for - dear friends - on this North West Coast.

[…] is still in the Walter Reed Hospital - as far as we know. [1771] is really worried about him - for his mothers letters tell her really nothing definite. He was supposed to have on honorable discharge from the army & return to his home but whether that has been done is still unknown to us.

He’s such a find boy - its a pity - that he has had this breakdown.

Have a happy day - with those who are with you today. Little C. T. must be adorable & what thoughts you must receive as you gaze at him & respond to his baby smile.

R8. 12/4/43 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1770]:

My Dear [1770]

Good to have yours of the 25th. A very lovely thanksgiving we had, tho to be sure lonely for the boys, but the young men [Charles Thomas Taylor Cayce and Edgar Evans Cayce, Jr.] were with us. My what thoughts came to me as I looked at these two boys and remembered their Fathers when they were about the same age, couldn’t say it made me feel old, yet years and years have passed, but wrather as observing a Miracle, for each are so like their father that it is like looking in a mirror, almost set in reverse.

From observation seems we are passing through a period where Chocolate just works badly on many people. Wonder what it is quite a number have found that chocolate affects them in about the same way, and peanuts also, yet the oil of peanuts combined with something else is often given for the skin and for nerve and muscular troubles.

Often, as the information says one days ration we can turn the alkalinity in body one way or the other and the too great Alkalinity is worse than on the Acid side, unless too far over.

Don’t worry about my being so popular, when ever you need me lets have it will find the way some how, you may be very sure of that. Don’t want any of the regular members to go wanting, that wouldn’t be just right.

Think the reason is you have gotten too far on to the Alkaline side some how. Didn’t see Nancy while in N.Y. but the meetings were a success and almost a flop, if such might be said. There were three times as many people who wanted to see and hear me as could get into the hall, so had to hold two meetings, and dividing the time, well you know is not very easily done, especially when one knows lots of people are being turned away at each meeting and some in Chairs and like waiting hours to get in. We have some of the books - There is a River if you haven’t gotten the one you wanted, the special edition without the boxes however, can sell them for 3 or 5 depends whether you wish them numbered and autographed or not.

Had a line from [1641], he certainly felt he was fortunate knowing you and [1771], think he is a fine boy.

Hate to be the continual beggar, but had to have the Living sponsorship if were to carry on, with the extra help needed have ten people in office now, and in the best of times that is heavy expense, and now - but the response has been wonderful, all Praise to HIM. My wouldn’t that be lovely to have your lovely Piano maybe can work that out some way, reckon. We had some of the service mens wives with us for Thanksgiving, it is mostly those we have working here you know. [GD’s note: Mr. and Mrs. Cayce invited the whole office staff for Thanksgiving dinner, which included all the girls, Harmon Bro and his wife, etc.]

Suppose [1771] is worried about […]. Hope he will soon be alright tho, haven’t heard [2072] say any thing about him lately, believes he lives there doesn’t he? The babies are fine, C. T. just wins every one with his adorable smile, the happiest baby ever saw unless it was his dad, but had them both on my knee Thanksgiving. What a feeling of responsibility, which suppose is very foolish, taking responsibility that possibly are not mine at all.

Thanks a lot [1770], do wish for you here many times. Want to ask you so many questions, feel you might answer better than any one know.

Gertrude is better. Had bad cold, but better. I am fair, working hard-long hours for an old man.

R9. 1/12/44 Mrs. [1770]‘s letter to EC:

Seattle I Washington

Dear Edgar:-

You’ve been in my heart and mind so often these days - & whole evenings have been spent - in talking about “you”. Haven’t your ears been burning?

We do appreciate the “reading”, which you arranged at an early date for [3527]. He is such a fine boy - and the mere thought of having a Reading gave him real “Hope” - and it is opening up great truths to him.

How I wish that I could bring those truths to more people.

Did you have a fine Christmas - and were you all in good health. [1771] and I were up & around for the Christmas festivities - and enjoyed being with the Frink family.

[1641] is writing to [1771] “very often”, he is a dear boy - and his letters are just typical of [1641] & [1641] alone. I write to him about once a week - for I have more “time”, than [1771].

[4053] has been transferred to …, La. He left San Francisco - Jan 5th. He is such a fine man, and so in love with [1771]. There must be some reason why she does not respond - for as far as I can see - he would bring great happiness to her. Perhaps she is unaware of what “Love” really is. She’s not the emotional type - she will unfold slowly. Poor […] or […] - he is so despondent - we wish that he would consent to a “Reading”, but in his present mental state - no one - or nothing seems to reach him. Its really very sad. [2072] lives just across the street from him. Of course - [1771] is disturbed & has tried to write him - the sort of letters which would encourage him - to rise above this mental depression. But it seems hopeless - at the moment at least.

My three copies of “There is a River”, arrived & I gave one to Dr. Lorimer - telling him he could loan it now to his hearts content. Gave another one to - Mrs. Bishop - and kept a copy for myself - for “loaning purposes”. Have sent it to Mrs. [3024]‘s daughter (Mrs. […]) …, Nebraska. You’ll probably hear from […]. She had a reading. Her daughter - gave birth to a dear little son - last October - & just before Christmas - its mother […] discovered that her darling baby was blind!!! “Congenital Cataracts” - the medico’s say. Have you anything in past READINGS on that subject? The Drs. suggest very delicate operations - when the child is about one year old - but it will have to wear heavy lens glasses - I imagine something the same as [1861] is wearing. The mother Mrs. […] is a wonderful soul & she & her husband have taken it - so courageously.

I’m sure a Reading will bring them hope & the answer as to why this came to their child. I’m enclosing a short note from Nancy Lansdale. In my previous letter to her, I mentioned that you wrote - “that you did not see her” in N.Y. But she understands - so no harm was done.

If you could get my piano transported from N.Y. to Va. Beach you know I’d like nothing better. Couldn’t David Kahn arrange it?

We haven’t forgotten our pledges - and as soon as we can do so - you’ll be receiving at least part of it. What with Drs. Bills!!! oh my! I really can’t afford being ill - that took $100. & more. (Taxes - insurance - the first few months of every New Year - are difficult) After April 17th I can breathe again.

I have so much to be grateful & thankful for - but each year my income seems less & less - thats only natural - during this War period - & it will probably dwindle more & more - as time goes on.

I’ll just HAVE to keep well - thats all.

Only hope that you are not attempting too much. There is so much upon your shoulders - so much & so many are coming to you for aid - hope & assistance.

You are bringing so much to those who come to you - more than you realize.

My! My! Your office must be a regular bee hive - with ten people assisting you.

I feel quite ashamed of myself for not being able to keep a closer watch on my personal correspondence, especially those that mean so much to me personally. I did manage to get a little note off to [1771], so you possibly know I am not entirely out of the picture though I am pretty well worn at this time, and I am going to have to call a halt and be out for a few days. I wish you were close enough so I could run in to see you all, but I guess I will go to Florida to see Tom and my sister [Ola Cayce (Mrs. J. J. Crume)].

I hope the reading for [3527] will prove to be to his advantage.

Christmas was a quiet time for us. I was too close to tears to say that I had other than a very pleasant, miserable time. In fact, Gertrude and I went out to lunch Christmas day at one of the local restaurants. We wouldn’t bear to be at home. For thirty six years, Christmas Day has meant the boys having fun and a good time at home.

I have one or two letters from [1641] that I haven’t been able to answer yet. I think he is quite a worth-while boy.

So [4053] is in … We have had quite a number of requests for readings for people in … especially those who are friends of the British Consulate … as he [3280] had a reading rather early and has gotten wonderful results. This of course, made him rather enthusiastic.

Yes, I have heard [2072] speak of […] several times, and I believe when I was there sometime last summer she pointed out to me that it was while you were there you came over to see [1861].

I am told that THERE IS A RIVER is selling much more rapidly now than it ever did before, and the publishers seem very much pleased. A letter from someone in Los Angeles today informed me it had become a sensation there. Wherever two or three people got together most of the time you would find them discussing the book. It must be something of that nature from the number of letters I have gotten from there recently.

Yes, the condition you describe with the child must be very much like [1861]‘s. When I was there, Mrs. […] reviewed the whole circumstances for me, and also indicated what she thought of his improvement since he has been taking the suggested treatments in the reading.

I suppose you know from Nancy’s letter that I was so very busy I lost all sense of proportion while in New York. I recall now she is quite right. I did see her.

I wish I could arrange it about the piano, but I don’t know just now how it could be done, for the young people [Harmon & June Bro] here who were so anxious about it have gotten one. I wish we had it here, but I don’t know just what I would do with it until we get this new house built and that will have to be after the war. Hold on to it. We will need it.

Maybe you will come to see us someday. I am going to have to, as the old negro says, “take out”. It’s getting most too heavy for me for such a long period, but so many people seem to be getting real help.

It is ridiculous that I never thanked you for the lovely box of pears that came at Christmas, but don’t think we did not appreciate them. I sent several of these boxes to friends of ours in various parts of the country, and they like we, were more than pleased with such a lovely remembrance.

What ever became of [1771]‘s photo? I did not see it.

I do hope that we get just exactly what she wants for her appointment.

Dear Edgar:-

Your ears should be burning - both of them - for you are so much a part of our conversations these days.

[3527] has spent some time with us - & his Reading has given him so much comfort & HOPE. That is the first hurdle - which he had to jump over.

There - you’ve heard from my friend - [3024] - whose daughter Mrs. […], from Nebraska - has asked for a reading for her baby son ”[…]”. A time was set - which would be AFTER the Doctors had performed their first operation on the childs eyes - so - I suggested - that you give them the time which has been assigned to me - sometime in Sept. 1944 & I’ll take the time which you gave to them - for the babies Reading.

I’m sure the child is more important - & I can wait until 1945 for mine.

Another party is anxious for a Reading - some one in the church - but - I’m just like you - feel so helpless - when you realize that a sick person - must wait a year or more before she can have a Reading - and receive help.

I can well imagine how you must feel at times. Perhaps [1771]‘s forth coming Reading will bring changes to me & to her - and, whether the War is over or not - there may be ways for us both to return to the east coast.

I’m a “Deaconess” now - of the Plymouth Church - we visit the shut ins & prepare the communion tables & greet people in the foyer of the Church each Sunday. Imagine me - active in Church work! I’ve not gone to church - in years. Some how - I’ve felt that they were not teaching - those things which I felt so deeply about.

Mr. or Dr. Lorimer is one man - who is open to conviction & not to those dead Theologian ideas.

Your time must be so full these days - only hope that you do find time for a breath of fresh air - now & then.

[1771] and I sincerely hope that you are resting up - in Florida - & enjoying some of its warmth and sunshine. We can well imagine that you and Gertrude need a change & time out - to renew your physical & spiritual well being. Yours is indeed a life of service and sacrifice.

What part of Florida does your sister live & where is Tom Sugrue? How is his health these days? Did he make complete recovery?

[1771] is looking forward to her Reading - it will be in about two weeks. She is such a loving - sweet person. Valentines Day is just around the corner & we have “secrets”

from each other. These days bring much joy and happiness to us both.

By the way - I have the insured P.O. receipt - the photograph was mailed to you on Nov. 15th, plenty of time to arrive before Christmas. It must have gotten lost enroute. We are going to put a tracer on it.

Its the sweetest photograph of her - I know you will love having it - only hope it can be found.

Forget about the piano - if you have one - which fills the needs of the young people. I merely thought IF you had none mine might be used.

My Reading - if I ever get one - will have to direct me where to go - if & when [1771] makes her great decision.

I am sure I haven’t replied to your letter of the 12th of February, but so many strange things have been happening lately for me. I don’t know what I’ve answered and what I haven’t. I don’t even recall as to whether [1771]’ reading has been passed up or just what the status of it is, but I am in hopes I will be back in the harness again real soon.

Had a very nice little visit in Florida. Tom is in Clearwater Beach. That is, as you possibly recall, on the west coast or gulf side of Florida just a little above St. Petersburg and not so far from Tampa. My sister lives at Deland, which is in the central portion and is about opposite Daytona Beach. Had a very nice visit with each of them.

Tom is looking much better; not so much difference in the way he can handle himself, but too is gradually changing for the better and will take some time. He is not able to walk on his crutches very much yet. One of his legs has not straightened at all, but is somewhat better.

When I came home from Florida I felt pretty good; started to work and then suddenly exploded in my own face and have been sick in bed ever since. Even tried to get a few treatments in New York in all this rush and turmoil. Went up there and stayed three or four day, but I think I was worse from the trip. I believe it was a week ago today that I went to bed here. Almost had bronchial pneumonia. The doctor had to give me those Sulfa drugs, and they do play Hobbs with me. I hope I’ve gotten over that don’t care stage, but if I have, it isn’t much.

I am trying to catch up with my personal correspondence and trying to hold my mind and feelings in about all the responsibility I have and so inadequate in my physical feelings in a way to meet it. Lets hope it will be for the best.

Among the things I did find on my desk when I got back from New York, was the photograph of [1771]. I suppose it must have come in some of the mail that had been pushed away, because I open all the mail and it doubtless had been laid aside is the reason why I had missed it. It is a beautiful picture and I thank her very, very much for it.

I hope not being able to get the reading for [1771] has not been too long. I will get to it just as soon as I possibly can and hope it has not been too much disappointment for her.

Edgar dear:-

Our letters & cards passed each other [mine in re [3527] (enroute).

We are both so sorry to hear of your illness - sort of had a feeling - all was not well with you - wish we had known sooner. You can rest assured you are in our thoughts & prayers & each night. I am putting you in the great magnetic sphere.

My own experience with Sulfa Drugs was so depressing & debilitating - personally, I feel, that sensitive souls - should never take them - the after effects are so depressing! Cheer up - you will get over that “don’t care stage” - its just a miserable phase of the after effects of those drugs & the illness itself.

We’re glad that [1771]‘s photo. came to light. She had the post office trace it (and they replied) that it had been delivered - so we felt sure it would surprise you, when it was found under a pile of mail. It is lovely - and I’m glad you think so too. She is just as sweet and dear as she looks.

Naturally - she’s disappointed about not having had her Reading - but thats only natural, but she’s says “for you not to worry about it.” Your getting well & strong again, is far more important. We both sat quietly - for one hour, in meditation - that Saturday afternoon. I’m sure some help must have gone out to you, for your were receiving our loving thoughts.

Mr. Eugene Fersen - Author of The Science of Being - opens his classes by having us contact “THE UNIVERSAL LIFE ENERGY” sitting relaxed in a chair - hands resting on the knees - PALMS UPWARD (be sure not to cross the legs) breathe rhythmically - soon you will feel a pulsation in your fingers tips & all thru your body.

Then you say

1. I am one with the Universal (Spiritual plane) Life Energy.

2. It is flowing thru me now (mental).

3. I FEEL IT (Physical plane).

That is contacting the Universal Life Energy & it is very helpful & he suggests that we use it before we attempt any task - no matter how small.

Its certainly helped me as I’ve pounded the pavements - during this Red Cross War Fund Drive. You can put your hand out PALMS UPWARD where ever you are & think of your Oneness with the Universal Life Energy & be renewed - by contacting consciously - that force which is God.

After contacting U. S. E. we make a sphere with our hands but do not let OUR FINGERS TOUCH EACH OTHER. “Sphere of Power” - in which is, “all abundance - Wisdom - Love - Harmony - Protection there say I AM IN IT” in the sphere (mentally of course) the wounded or any friend whom we wish to help. The vibrations felt left in the sphere - are really wonderful. While you are asleep (for I usually do this before I retire) you are put into the sphere - & I know some help will flow to you from that wonderful source of power & healing.

Try this exercise some time. I’m sure the vibrations will be very strong - for you are so spiritual & sensitive.

Our class - as a group - sends out such strong vibrations - which are felt by us all.

Its like being receiving sets & “tuning” in to the Universal Radio - or Source of all power. Try it - with the group around you - I’m sure it will help.

How many Readings - were you giving daily - before you became so exhausted? There are physical laws which must be obeyed. Knowing you I’m sure you tried to do more than was wise for your own good.

There is only one YOU & naturally those Readings do weigh heavily on your mind & shoulders - & your capacity is limited - you’ll just have to cancel those - which seem to you not a necessity - but, I’ll bet they are all emergencies!!!

Thanks very much for your letter of the 19th.

It is very nice and love of you and [1771] to be anxious about what happens here. I certainly have been on the ragged edge for a good many weeks, and we have disappointed so many people that it makes rather an anxious time for me. I am very sure I have written [1771] and given her another appointment. I am certainly sorry that we weren’t able to give the reading for her at the time indicated, but thats one of those things that I haven’t been able to help.

Yes, I know just what you mean by the sulfa drug being depressing, and whether I am more sensitive than others or not, I don’t know, but of course I can imagine most anything from the way I have been feeling.

I was glad that [1771]‘s picture turned up. Its very lovely and beautiful and I appreciate it more than I know just how to tell you.

I think I have been quite aware of much of the anxiety that has been express in the thoughts and prayers that have been sent my way in the last three or four weeks, and at times I felt without these it might have been rather serious for me, for I didn’t miss pneumonia very far, or so the doctor tells me, and I felt like I had it, but I am gradually on the improve I think.

Yes, we have often times had given in the information in our study groups work, something of the same character of manners of attuning oneself to the infinite, but as the information has put it and is why that every individual use that that to themselves, answers to something within themselves. Whether it be in a certain position or with certain odors or with a character of music, or what not, for each soul entity is a universe within itself. If we could only fully recognize it and not try to copy someone else or try to induce someone else to use our particular method, we might be different. This though I am sure you have found in “Search for God” and especially in Meditation. That, I understand is really the manner in which this information presented it. Many other individuals I know have their own ideas and have had their own experiences.

This is also quite a bit like the routines as are suggested in some of the groups by other teachers, especially Mr. Glen Clark. You may know his work very well. All of these I think are excellent, yet each of us have to find our own way, for the church or the Christ consciousness is an individual thing. The church is not ourselves, because our bodies are independent of the Living God or the Church of the Living God, and as He has indicated to us, there He meets us as individuals.

I know where my fault is about my trouble, its in my own self, not so much of trying to do too much, but trying to get others maybe to think or do just like I would, which is all wrong.

Yes, everything for the next six months or so are emergencies. Thats the thing that tends to aggravate.

I do hope you are both fine and I do hope we will be able to get the reading for [1771] and most of all that it will be helpful and worthwhile when we do get it.

Glad to have yours of the 11th [In regard to Mr. [3527], etc.].

Thanks for the letter from [1641], also the one from Mrs. […] [[3024]‘s daughter]. [1641] wrote us sometime ago that he didn’t think he would be able to keep his appointment, and we gave the period to someone else. I am mighty sorry that we can’t get in one for Mrs. […] at that time. If we have the data necessary though for Mrs. […]‘s reading, we will try to get it in just as soon as possible.

You know being out so long, and being so full of requests, we cabbage on to every single period that is at all possible, sometimes when we shouldn’t. We had such an experience Saturday when we just had to, and I hope I don’t over-do-it.

I am in hopes that we can help those that you have given your periods to. They have been changed, if we have had the information from the people about the reading. I assure you of that, but there are so many of them that it’s hard to know. I am mighty sorry that [1641]‘s period has already been promised to somebody else, but we are doing the best we can, and will work it in just as soon as possible.

If Mrs. […] will write us and tell us if the baby is always at the same address so we could just wire her if we have a cancellation. Sometimes, however, the cancellations are just a few minutes before the time of the reading, and we don’t even have time to wire. Her appointment, I believe if for Sunday, October 15th, as it stands at present.

We got the reading for Mr. [4053]. It may be several days yet before they will be able to get it transcribed, but I think you can tell [1771] from what was said, she just as well get ready, and he will be very apt to take her entirely out of this country before very long. He is quite an unusual young man, according to the information, and will evidently be in the diplomatic service, if the follows through with what he is supposed to apply himself for; and a representative of some organization, possibly other than the country that he represents, or in connection with same.

Yes, I am glad to say that I am feeling fine. I just hope I can hold on to it. We have had miserable weather here through March, and thus far in April. I think there was about seven inches more rain during March than has ever been recorded in this section of the country before, and it’s been cold along with it.

I am certainly glad to know that [3527] is feeling better. I do hope he will keep up with the suggested treatments, and as the osteopath gets those lesions broken up in the area where they apply the oil pack, he should soon be lots better.

Well as soon as [1771] gets married, I will expect you to be around this part of the world, and that isn’t going to be too far off; all too soon for you, I am sure.

Your letter of May 11th [GD’s note: I can find no copy of his letter or hers, so perhaps no copy was kept.] - touched me very deeply. You were so understanding of my emotional outburst. Truly - I was ashamed after I had mailed that letter of mine. You have enough on your shoulders - without being burdened with my silly reactions.

Of course I am happy for [1771] - I’m truly thrilled that [4053] and she are going to be together - thru the coming years - its only now & then, that I am completely overwhelmed by my own loss. Tho [4053] assures me - I am not losing [1771] but gaining a son. His letters are so understanding & beautifully written. They are a fine couple - with such high ideals.

On May 21st - [1771] sat quietly at home here - for that was the date given to her for her Reading. We both feel that she sat there, for the second time, to now avail. For no Reading has come to her - & she was NOT notified of any change of date. Wonder if you can ask Gladys what was done about it.

In your letter to me - you wrote, we have had to CUT OUT SUNDAY READINGS, etc., etc. - but you - or rather your staff have not notified [1771] - or given her any date to replace the one she had for May 21st. Something else for you to worry about - but just REMIND some one else to look it up for you - to have them advise [1771].

The announcement tea - for [1771] - was a beautiful affair. Thirty of our mutual friends gathered here - the flowers - candles & silver were lovely & she was the brightest one of all - eyes shining & receiving her congratulations so sweetly. She loves her ring & Oh! how she does register pure happiness.

I worked so hard - for the “Tea” - got over tired & the result was a mean cold. Spent a few days in daze - and am feeling better now. That’s why - this letter to you - is so late in arriving.

Am enclosing the check - but I’ve forgotten the name of the FUND - for WHICH it was promised. Can you supply the name?

[1771] may be married in October. The 22nd is the date they have set - but they may change it. [4053] thinks its a long way off. [1771] wants to leave the … Co. with no hard feelings - by leaving them without an interior decorator.

Its awfully hot in … - during the summer months - and heaven knows she has adjustments to meet - without trying to adjust herself to such heat & humidity. All in all - October seemed to be the month she wanted - so thats that.

At the moment, we plan to drive to … La. if we can get the gasoline. I may remain there - (not living with [1771] but near by) until she has adjusted herself to … - & has a few mutual friends, then I can go on my way. She says - She can’t think of Christmas without me” - so I may remain there until the New Year. No plans are definite. Of course, if we have plenty of gasoline by that time - I may drive on to Virginia Beach - who knows?

Thanks again Edgar dear for your understanding. Never knew I reminded you of your dear Mother. I’m happy in knowing that I do - now, perhaps, I can better understand my own feelings. Where is Hugh Lynn? Love to you & Gertrude & the best from us both

My dear [1770]:

Thank you for yours of the 6th. Yes, D. Day, and what it means to all of us. Hugh Lynn is, or was, somewhere in England before this time. Where he is now, we don’t know. We haven’t heard from him for nearly three weeks now. He is supposed to be in the Special Service. Whether his group will be in the invasion right now, or not, I don’t know. It will be, very soon, if it hasn’t already been sent.

Yes, I think I fully appreciate your feelings about [1771] getting married. I appreciate very much your sending me the clipping and the announcement. This will be nice to go in with her file. I am sure she is a very happy girl, and I feel that it will be a very, very happy life with [4053].

I was mighty sorry about [1771] being disappointed about her reading. I have just not been able to take them on Sunday. As on many other days here in the week, once in awhile I fall down. I am sure thought that Miss Gladys has already written her and has possible given her another appointment. Though, once she told me that it wasn’t necessary after the appointment for [4053]‘s reading. We will work it in, however, just as soon as we can. I don’t know whether we can do it before October, or not. It won’t be worth much unless we can, I am sure.

We have really just got too much to do here, [1770]. You can’t imagine how many requests come to this office and how thick and how fast, and what pleadings we do have.

I am sure the announcement tea was a beautiful affair, and I know [1771] was very, very happy. I am happy for her.

I hope you are feeling much better. You look a little thin in the snap-shot you sent. Thank you very, very much for these. Maybe you have been worrying a little bit, too.

I want to thank you, too, very, very much for the check. Without the help of our friends for this department, it would be rather hard to carry on. While we are not doing so much in this direction now as we should be doing, and it seems the possibilities are that this is to be curtailed a bit, every- body has plenty to do these days and that service of love is sometimes neglected.

I get the idea that [1771] will like … I had a brother-in-law [W. Lynn Evans, GC’s bro.], who lived there for a number of years. It depends altogether on what part of the city she lives. We visited there quite a number of times and enjoyed it very much. You have visited there, I am sure, and it will be quite nice for you to see that things get started off right. I am sure [1771] was quite right in saying that it wouldn’t be Christmas without you near.

We are hoping and trusting that some of these days you will find that there is a Virginia and that you have friends that think a great deal of you there.

You should see these two grandsons of ours. They are growing up like weeds. It gives one a shock once in awhile to realize that the little ones coming up are patterning their lives after those they are near. The Other day, I was walking through the house a little bit disturbed because it had been all torn up trying to get it cleaned up before the Congress. I was thinking. Had my hands behind my back and head down, and I happened to look down and saw Charles Thomas walking along beside me with the same posture and the same way.

I hope you will pardon me for not replying to yours of the 1st [In re change of appointment dates, etc.] much sooner, but I seem to have just about given out, and left here the 27th of July to spend a little time with Tom Sugrue, trying to get straightened out a good many of the things concerning the publications program, as he is chairman of that phase of the work.

While it wasn’t as hot in Florida as it was in Virginia Beach, I didn’t seem to come back like I should. In fact, though I have been at home now nearly two weeks, I haven’t been able to get back to work yet, but I hope I will be able to get back very soon. I am some better, and yet, not equal to undertaking heavy programs that I have scheduled for myself a long time ago. I may have to alter it, but I just hope I don’t get to feeling sorry for myself, or trying to protect myself, if I can use what strength I have in the service of others.

I am certainly glad to know that you and [1771] had such a nice vacation in Victoria. I certainly hope everything is going along fine for you both. Yes, I am sure [1771]‘s happiness and welfare is something very much worthwhile to you. I am glad for her, and for you, that you can look at it and take it as you are doing, for I know you are going to miss her when she has started taking care of her own home.

Well, it is not easy to refer people to you, not knowing just how busy you are, and yet you have always been so lovely and so nice to us, maybe we have overstepped it at times, and asked for things that we shouldn’t have.

Yes, you have an appointment for the morning and afternoon of September 8th. At the present time, it is listed as a life reading in the morning - that is, 10:30 to 11:30, EWT, and mental and spiritual for the afternoon - 3:30 to 4:30, EWT. You can let us know about these, and just what type of questions you would like to have answered. If you wish to give either of these times to Mrs. […] you can let us know about it, and I just hope I will be able to keep the period.

I don’t like to feel that I am doubting myself, or my ability

• or the Lord’s abilities to keep me in the proper shape, but the last few weeks have given me quite a shake.

I suppose you are keeping pretty busy, getting things together, as the time draws near.

We have made notations for the Congress Booklet. The notes were all kept by someone who came in from Connecticut [Mildred (Mrs. Stanley H.) Tansey], and it will possibly be some time next month before we will have them ready to send out, but we will sent it out just as soon as possible.

Yes, [1641] was here, and spent several days before going on to his new assignment. I didn’t gather that he felt so deeply hurt [by your letter and coming marriage of [1771] and [4053]. Of course, he is very central-minded, but that, I suppose, can be credited to his own development and his own experiences.

I wish I could say that I was feeling fine. I do hope that I can be better, soon. I do hope that you will keep that promise of being on hand yourself, in person, in ‘45 for the Congress.

No, it hasn’t been too awfully hot. We have had days and periods, of course, when it was very warm and very dry, but all in all, I think Virginia Beach is about as good climate as any place that I have known much about.

Thanks a lot for yours of the 19th [enquiring about his health, etc.]. I don’t know whether I deserve being thought of, but I appreciate any kind thought that you turned my way, for the last three to four weeks I have been anything except what I should be, to try to be of help to others, for I have needed help.

I had a nice visit with Tom, but it seems when I quit working, I commence getting so doggoned tired that I can’t get back to work. I finally came home, and have gradually begun to work again and the harder I work, the better I feel, mentally. I have such a pain through my heart and chest that I wonder - but let us hope that I can spend myself being of help to others, and that the more I help others, the greater help there is going to be for me.

We haven’t gotten the Congress Booklet out yet. The lady who took down the notes just sent in the report, but I hope the secretary [Esther Wynne] who has charge of the Bulletin and Weekly Letter will be able to get it together so that we can get it out sometime next month, and I am in hopes that it will be of real interest to you.

I felt rather peculiarly about some of the things that were given at the Congress. For instance, one of the Readings has a few lines (I believe the Reading was published in the last Bulletin) and there was one man [Mr. [5395]] who came in, who is quite an international figure, and he wants to know if he can’t publish about seven million - literally - copies for distribution to certain groups. I wonder if you can find the particular line he is interested in? [Mr. [5395]]

Yes, there have been quite a number of couples who have had joint readings. These have proven quite interesting, and most of them claim they have been very helpful. It will be quite interesting to give one for [1771] and [4053]. Maybe she will want a few months to think of it before she has it, so we will make the appointment for sometime around the first of the year - or had we better make it right away? Tell [1771] to let me know about this.

Well, I would be glad to find a companion for you if we could, but I don’t know anybody who would come up to what I feel would be required. I don’t mean by that that you are hard to please, but I do mean one that would be worthy.

When you get all settled with your problems of getting [1771] all set, come by the Beach and spend a while, and see if we haven’t the place. I think we have, but what we need most of all is somebody that knows how to use the typewriter.

I hadn’t heard about the transfer of appointments for the 8th, but I do hope and trust we may be able to be the means of help for the […] baby, especially. I can fully appreciate just what such might mean, and I hope I will be able to do it, but unless I am getting a lot better, we have to cut out a lot of the readings, I am afraid.

I appreciate very much your helping out with those who have been suggested that they phone or get in touch with you. I have a nephew, Edgar McPherson [Edgar Cayce McPherson, son of Mary Cayce & Will McPherson], who is in the Navy and is now stationed in Seattle, so again, I may be bothering you. He is such a funny boy, I don’t know whether you will be seeing him, or not. I told him to call you. If he does, any little kindness will be appreciated by me, as you know. He has one of the loveliest mothers, if she is my sister, and a lovely wife, also.

Six weeks is not long, before you will be moving on the … I hope and trust all of the days will be happy ones for [1771] and [4053].

We hear from Hugh Lynn and Edgar Evans fairly regularly. Hugh Lynn is being moved about so fast nowadays that he doesn’t get his letters from home very regularly, and he is already in France, and says that since he arrived he had moved seven times, I believe, and most every time his APO has been changed, and that makes another delay in his getting his mail.

It has been quite warm here, but it is very lovely at the present time. Do let us hear from you, and we can get the reading in some time about the middle of the year, I think, for [1771], if she desires that we make the appointment right away.

Dear [1770]

Thanks a lot for your letter of the 25th. Well, I am up and that’s about all. We are trying to take care of just as many of the appointments as we can. Whether I am going to be able to stay up and take them or not I don’t know.

I had a sweet letter from [1771] making quite a number of suggestions. This, however, had already been adopted some two or three weeks ago, so it must be a good idea. I certainly appreciate her thoughtfulness.

I think that the individuals have been notified. The letters have been given to Miss Gladys which came into my hands and as some of them have been addressed to her directly, these doubtless are being taken care of and will come up for their regular periods that you have been so nice in giving to others. I just hope that they won’t come on one of my bad days and that we will be able to get just what is needed for the individual at the time, both the […] baby and also Mrs. […]. I appreciate your giving away these times if it is just what you wish to do, but that of course is entirely up to you.

Yes, I wrote you about your helping out, but I don’t know there isn’t any room, I mean by that about every two feet of office space in the new building now is almost covered by someone trying to do something and maybe there won’t be any place until we can get a new building, but I do hope that you will keep us in mind because I have always felt this is where you should be working. However, you have a big job to do yet getting [1771] settled and your own mind straightened out as to what you want to do with yourself, don’t you think, or am I presumptuous?

R25. 11/30/68 [1770] had a stroke. It paralyzed her right side, and affected her speech and eyesight. She is making a good recovery. At present she can walk, feed herself and take care of her personal needs. Her speech is improving daily, as is her eyesight. She is practising her handwriting and doing very well, but neither her eyesight nor handwriting are yet up to reading and answering her mail. Please keep her in your prayers. God is good!

R26. 1/29/70 GD’s note: I rec’d a birthday card signed by her. She is improving slowly - is having osteopathy from Dr. O. M. Wakefield, physical therapy treatments, etc.

R27. 9/3/70 Dr. Wm. A. McGarey added the Radio-Active Appliance to her regime, for equalizing circulation; Castor Oil Packs; diet, massage, colonics, etc.

R28. 1/13/71 GD’s note: Last night I had dinner and a nice visit with [1770]. Her memory is wonderful, and her speech is almost back to normal - even her appearance. She had a wonderful visit with niece [1771] and family over the holidays and is now back in her snug apt., with her daytime companion-maid doing for her, getting her meals, cleaning, taking her to the doctor, to therapy, keeping track of her appointments, etc. Today she is at the hairdresser getting a permanent. She showed me gifts she rec’d from various ones in the family, her friends, etc., and in detail how she daily does her “homework”, speech, writing, etc. It is marvelous the enthusiasm she still generates. I thoroughly enjoy visiting with her.

R29. 6/21/71 Dr. Wm. A. McGarey wrote [1770]: “Gladys and I enjoyed our visit with you so much last Friday. You are doing such a tremendous job in the whole business of the rehabilitation of those functions within your body. It is just exactly like Cayce talked about that Ra-Ta did back in Egypt these many thousands of years ago. I think that you are an inspiration to the people in Virginia Beach whether they are consciously aware of it or not. Gladys and I would encourage you to continue with what you are doing because it thrills us more than you can realize. You have a great deal of assistance there in Mary, and we will put both of you on our prayer list. Do let us know if there is anything more that we can do to assist you.”

R30. 10/16/71 GD’s note: At 1:30 P.M. [1770] started having another stroke. Ambulance came - Rescue Squad called - and her nurse-companion Mary, with Inga Price and Regina Orr, worked with her, getting her ready. Also Mr. Irion, Jim Baraff, GDT, Ruth and Prayer Group met upstairs for prayer. Mary is to call niece [1771] as soon as the doctor reports to her about [1770]‘s condition.

R31. 12/14/71 Niece [1771] took [1770] from hospital to …, Md., where she will be in a nursing home near [1771].

R32. 1/25/72 Niece [1771] wrote: “Now Auntie [1770] can rise up out of a chair unaided and walk about our house without support. To those of you who saw her in the hospital two months ago this must be as amazing as it is to me…The old personality has reasserted itself, too. With her lovely smile and friendly greetings to the residents (in the nursing home) she reaches out to them all in love.

Many times I have asked myself why Auntie has had the experience of this illness. I don’t have the answer, but I know that she continues to teach us all as she lives out and applies the truths and principles she has taught all those years. I expected my own children to be thoughtful and considerate of their Aunt [1770] but their loving attention and help, great patience, gentleness and real tenderness toward her has surpassed anything I could have imagined. It has been an unexpected blessing to witness this.

R33. 1/30/73 Mrs. [1770] herself wrote:

“The doctor says I am getting new life in my whole right side. I can feel it happening. It hurts, but I know it is good.

“I am reading for myself, and speaking so much better.”

R34. 10/27/73 She wrote: “I am really very well. Only my right foot and hand hurt so much. There isn’t much to do for them but be patient.”

R35. 4/9/74 She wrote: “I’m waiting for sunny, warm days so I can take my walks.”

R36. 12/19/74 Niece [1771]‘s letter: “Aunt [1770] is still going strong. In June I drove her back to Va. Beach for a five-day visit. She was royally received by her host of friends and enveloped by a great outpouring of love. End of September she moved [from the nursing home] into our home and is now a familiar figure in the neighborhood as she makes her daily walks on her own. She delights in being part of the family and participating to the extent she is able: watering plants, matching sox, setting the table. Often conversation and activity are confusing, but Auntie’s good humor, bright smile, patience and appreciation are unfailing in spite of this and the constant pain in arm, hand and feet.”

R37. 12/19/74 Mrs. [1770] added a P.S. to above letter: “I am very happy living with [1771] and family. I take treatments from Dr. Chester L. Bailey (D.O. in Kensington, MD.). I take walks and I have exercises.”

Dear Edgar: -

[1771] was tempted to telephone you, a few weeks ago, for an emergency Reading, for her Auntie [1770] has been a very sick person. Came down on June 20th with a sinus infection of the HIGH sinuses - behind the eyes & in the head - ran a fever for three weeks - had a specialist - whom I did not vibrate to - but when my temperature was 102 - [1771] got disturbed & wanted to phone you, but I knew how busy you were & decided against it - tho it would have helped me I know - just knowing that she was speaking with you - in person. All’s well that ends well - I went against the Dr.s’ orders - and accompanied [1771] to Deer Harbor Orcas Island. She had her vacation plans all planned. Mr. Davis had invited us to vacation at his lovely summer home & we had accepted & even invited two of our friends to go up there with us.

Then I became ill & the Dr. said “it was out of the question my going there.” But I listened to my inner voice, & I accompanied them - and the pure fresh air & good nursing of my child - cured me. The youngsters had a happy vacation & all is well. The Dr. is still waiting to see me - but I’ll never go back to HIM again.

I’d like a check Reading - but presume I’ll have to wait until 1944 or 1945??? I know that such an infection lowers the red blood corpuscles but I’m resting each day & I can feel my strength returning.

I’m glad that the enlarged SNAP meets with your approval - when one is standing before such beauty - one probably takes on a little for oneself.

The June Bulletin was very interesting & it made me realize how much I missed. As soon as we can travel at will - across this country of ours - I’ll be seeing you and Gertrude & those grand CHILDREN of yours!!! Congratulations & say “Hello,” for me to little Edgar Evans.

I was surprised to note that Hugh Lynn was home - How wonderful for you all & his wife too! These separations are heart breaking - what tests & challenges - our young people are meeting these days.

I’m looking forward to the Congress Bulletin & its the next best thing to attending in person.

Eugene Fersen (Baron Fersen), is on a lecture tour - but when he returns I’m going to given him “There is a River.” His Science of Being is splendid Reading & he has SPIRITUAL IDEALS. I’ve not seen the review of the book in Christian Century - please send it to me - for our minister, Dr. Lorimer would be most interested in it. He was thrilled with There is a River, in fact - he still HAS MY OWN COPY & he’s away on his summer vacation. By the way - I never HAVE received any books from the publishers.

I’ll buy the Coronet magazine for the next few months - for I’m so anxious to have those reports.

I’m enclosing parts of a letter which Mabel Rogers sent me - (you can destroy them after you’ve read them).

Wonder why her Reading wasn’t given - did you try - & wasn’t she at the given address? You’ll notice that she admitted that Sat. afternoon was not the best time for her.

She is a sweet soul - a darling person - who has been an inspiration to me - every since I was a young high school student.

Had a long newsy letter from [2072] - she is a dear. She sent me her aura chart & the Reading [294-204] on your architype - by Nancy Lansdale. Both are intensely interesting. Mr. Fersen has had his architype made by Nancy too.

[1771] has found companionship at last. [4053], is the acting Danish Counsel - they both love Riding - boating - walking & are nature loners - & they are having many good times together.

Now “Auntie,” must find a play mate or a companion too!!! Have you any suggestions?

We are having a dinner guest this evening - so I must be up & doing. Give my love to Gertrude & Gladys - you all must be working over time these days.

Mrs. [1770] Seattle, Washington Dear Mrs. [1770]:

I have yours of the twenty-sixth. I am certainly sorry to know that you haven’t been feeling so good. I thought about you a lot lately, maybe that was what was the matter when [1771] was thinking about phoning. We are making appointments for next April. I am making the appointment for you, though, for the afternoon of August 13. This, of course, is a long time to wait for such an acute condition, but it is the very best we can do. That time is 3:30 to 4:30, our time.

Our grandchildren are something. Hugh Lynn is home for a furlough this week and he and his boy are getting acquainted all over again. Edgar Evans is having a real hard time staying on the job.

I am sending the Christian Century in which you will find the review of the book. This same lady has written an article for Coronet. They sent her the Congress to report. I haven’t seen this, but it will be very good, I know. I understand from many letters that there was a review of the book in some digest, but it was published in Canada. I merely have heard of this from other people.

I am very sorry about Mrs. Rogers, but we tried very hard to get this, but it is one of those things that sometimes happens. I am hoping next week when I take a day of two off that I will go over and talk to [2072] and [1861]. Nancy Lansdale did a very good job for me. It’s funny, you are speaking about the Danish consul and in this work, we have run into a girl [2988] who was my and Gertrude’s daughter in Egypt. She was born in Denmark and came to this country with the consul some years ago and has adopted Gertrude for her mother, then when she had a reading and found out that she is Gertrude’s daughter, she can hardly do enough for her.

I hope the time will be satisfactory. I am handing over the order to Mrs. Verhoven for the order of the data which you will receive in a few days. The Congress booklet will possibly be very good. It will be two or three weeks before it will be out, though. If any questions that should occur to your mind, be sure to let us have them before August 13. With love to you both from all of us here.

My dear Edgar: - The formality of: “Dear Mrs. [1770]” in your letter of July 28th - sort of took the wind out of my sails - then I remembered - that you had young secretary helping you - and my temperature returned to normal.

Just remind her that I’m “[1770]” - & not Mrs. [1770] - will you?

I certainly was surprised to read that you could give me a check Reading - at such an early date as Aug. 13th Friday, afternoon - 12.30 to 1.30 our time - 3.30 to 4.30 YOUR time.

Fortunately - Friday is my one open day - as I’m at the Marine Hospital - Tues. Wed. & Thurs. - so - I’ll be with you in spirit on Friday - Aug. 13th.

I hope that you haven’t given me some one else’s date - as I’m really recovered from that awful sinus infection - and feeling like my old self again - tho - I feel - that a check up would be beneficial.

Wednesday - when I was having a High Colonic & my first electric steam treatment - the nurse showed me a Canadian Magazine - called, “The Magazine Digest,” (its like our Readers Digest) there was an excerpt of “There is a River” - probably the Coronet - may have the same article. I’ll watch for THAT.

Its wonderful for you all to have Hugh Lynn home - on a furlough - and I can just imagine how hard it must be for Edgar Evans to be away - at this time.

Mrs. Verhoven sent me quite a few yellow - (There is a River) circulars - but I really want more of the “COMMENTS ON ‘There is a River’” - its just a thin yellow sheet - to give.

“THE CREED THAT LIES BEHIND E. C.’s STORY.” Thats the sheet I would like to have more of. Will you ask her to send those on to me.

[4053], [1771]‘s friend - is reading - “There is a River” & we are anxious to get his reactions to it. He is a deep thinker - and I feel that it will open new vistas for him. We’ll see.

He and [1771] are spending many happy hours together - and Auntie shares many of them. [1771] had her picture taken yesterday - (real photographs) hope they come out well.

Its been very comfortable here in Seattle - temperature around 66 degrees. We read in the papers that Boston & N.Y. are having much more heat - temperatures in the 90 degrees. Give me Seattle!

I’ve just returned from the Marine Hospital - one of my men of the 7th floor - just passed away - his mother - wife & son

• were so grieved - tho - I’m sure comfort & understanding will come to them soon. I prayed for his spirit’s release - for some hang on for weeks & weeks - just fading away.

Well my dear - I hope that you did have your few days of rest. Have you any time for your favorite sport of canning? Mrs. [2934] - has just come in, this is her birthday - and I’ve invited her to dinner. Of course - you know whom we are talking about. Do your ears burn?
