This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 26th day of June, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Lt. [1776], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you the entity, [1776], born November 6, 1910, in Scotia, New York, who is now on board ship U.S.S. …, in …, Va., on the second deck in his room on the starboard side of the ship, a corner room just forward on a very heavy bulkhead. The entity seeks information, advice and guidance, as to his associations in marital, personal and professional relationships. You will answer the questions he submits, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the information that has been indicated for this entity through these channels.

3. In giving interpretations of relationships, - unless these are indicated from a paralleling of information respecting other individuals, whether in a marital, business or social relationship, - these may only be indicated from the entity’s angle; which, as has been the experience of the entity, may change according to circumstance and conditions.

4. Hence in seeking through information of such natures, it is oft best - and the much safer, saner way to seek same - to parallel the experiences as indicated in the Life Reading of each, or both.

6. (Q) What have been, and what are likely to be, my relationships with the following: First, [1981]? (A) Here the associations may be analyzed by the comparison or paralleling of such information, and the inferences should be easily drawn from same, - and as to how they each may apply themselves in relationships, see?

7. (Q) Barbara Crim? (A) We do not find or do not have Barbara Crim, - only, as indicated, from the impressions upon the mind of this entity, [1776]. And this at times is quite questionable (that is, as to decisions, see?), while at others it would appear that these might grow to be most satisfactory. Hence, as indicated, this may not be wholly or completely determined unless there was a paralleling of the purposes, aims and desires of each.

8. (Q) Barbara Curtis? (A) The same condition exists here, save there is in the experience of this entity - [1776] - a closer tie; there having been an experience when there were relationships - in the period just before this in this present land, see?

9. (Q) Bryna Riskin? (A) We do not find Bryna Riskin, save as a passing fancy.

10. (Q) With which of these would marriage be successful? (A) This should be determined by the entity itself, in the studying, analyzing, of the purposes and ideals.

For, in consideration of marriage, if it is to be a success, - it must be considered not from merely the outward appearance, a physical attraction; for these soon fade. Rather it should be considered from the angle of spiritual ideals, mental aspirations, and physical agreements. These should be analyzed in the experience of the entity, as in the experience of the companion, in the choice of such relationships.

For, these relationships are representative of the purpose of propagation of specie, as well as those ideals that arise from spiritual and mental relationships, - see?

11. (Q) Is anything foreseen that would tend to indicate marriage now, or at a later date, or after the war? (A) This, again, is a matter of choice. As we find, if there is for the entity the better relationships, it will be sooner - when there is the determining factor. And all phases of such considerations as indicated must be taken into hand, if it would be a successful companionship or marriage.

12. (Q) What have been and are likely to be my relationships with the following: First, Griffin Coale? (A) This as we find is another of the relationships where a more perfect understanding might be had through a paralleling of the experiences, by comparing the Life Reading of each. These must be considered from an analysis according to the paralleling of their relationships through varied sojourns. As we find, there have been relationships. As to whether these are to be met, - this remains within the choice of the individuals. As we find, there were experiences in the earth especially in Persia and in Egypt that were good. They CAN be made good in the present.

13. (Q) Donald Varian? (A) There have been quite a number of differences here. However, if the purposes of each are analyzed, these may be made to be constructive experiences in the present.

14. (Q) Douglas Curtis? (A) We would not carry these too far. The relationships are very agreeable, but these apply mostly to the material, rather than to the spiritual and mental ideals of either. They have been together in a relationship before, but were at differences then.

15. (Q) Alfred Burke? (A) This would be very good.

16. (Q) With which of these are business or professional or personal relationships likely to be successful? (A) This depends upon the choices of each of the individuals. But as indicated, analyze same in the light of those principles given for the entity. And where one, two or three are gathered, know that these purposes CAN be determined, if there are ideals. Of course, attractions are by likes and differences. But those relationships that are to be of lasting benefit or help are where there is a coordination or cooperation in their ideals, purposes, aims and hopes. These are the tests to apply in the business or social or any relationships of such natures.

17. (Q) What have been, and what are likely to be, my relationships with [951], who was Jean Cowper in her former incarnation? (A) If there was a meeting, it would be a sunburst for both at once!

(I took the liberty of asking that last question - I hope you don’t mind. She is a very lovely girl whose home is in …, Ohio, but at present she is working in California, - in the hospital office at Camp …, California. The extract [which was enclosed] is from the Life Reading, 951-4, given in October 1939.

This extract is an example of what is meant by “paralleling” the experiences of each. Compare this extract with that given in your own Life Reading as to the period as William Cowper.

Also compare your Life Reading with [1981]‘s, and draw your own conclusions.

R4. 5/10/63 [1776]‘s letter to HLC:

Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Hugh Lynn:

Twenty-four years have passed since the life reading - October 1939, I believe. Would it be possible to get a copy? I’d be glad to pay any charges.

Twenty-four eventful years. I lost the reading early in the ‘fifties in Haiti. From 1954 to 1960, while there, I lost a wife, a fortune and at the last, very nearly my life; yet in a strange way none of it really touched me. I wonder now whether any of this was foreshadowed in the reading. With only the vaguest recollection of its contents, I think not, but it will be interesting to check. I’ll let you know of concurrences if any.

Strangely, too, I’ve thought of you very often and, of course, your father and mother. Ah, this strange, strange life.

R5. 5/27/63 [1776]‘s letter to HLC:

Monday

Dear Hugh Lynn:

Thanks for the note, and I wish you every success in Houston.

I thought you might be interested in a concurrence. A couple of months ago, in plotting out the events of this experience for another purpose, I noted a remarkable thirty-year cycle and while I know little about astrology, did remember Saturn’s swings, and wondered if there were some reason why it should be so prominent in the plot.

I had a horoscope done for the first time and noted with some considerable interest how this might be. Mars is with Jupiter, right on the cusp of the first house, very closely opposed by Saturn from the seventh house cusp and retrograde. But also in the first house are Mercury, Venus, the Sun of course, and the Moon’s North Node, all within orb of that Saturn opposition. The rest of the mess is not much help. There is an exact opposition of Neptune in the 9th to Uranus in the 3rd, which opposition falls directly athwart the other big opposition in a beautiful cross. Pluto is the only fairly well aspected planet, with a trine to Mars and Jupiter. Almost everything else is squares and oppositions.

Then, later, I sent for a copy of the life reading and was startled to find that your father said, more than twenty years ago, and right off the cuff,:

” - as we find, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn and Venus, with Mars in an abstract position - all becoming a part of the entity’s life experience…”

Isn’t this what is generally meant by First-House aspects?

In passing, it is interesting to note that he said that 1940, 1941, ‘42, would be the beginnings of a very creative period; and they were indeed.

You probably have good explanations for this particular aspect of his work; but it is pretty baffling for the rest of us…

R6. 3/9/68 [1776]‘s letter to GD, [Enclosing membership fee]:

Dear Gladys:

It is wonderful to hear you are still in there pitching, as always. In this present turn, I am in charge of an operation in …, Connecticut which seeks to better the lot of the area’s elderly citizens. Among other things, I operate a Senior Center with a membership at the moment close to 500 of them. One difficulty is that this group contains so few active and energetic individuals. Those in that age group who are, are still fully involved in what they are doing - and they are still doing. Most of my people have seceded from life, and that’s the trouble with them. To secede from life is to commence dying, of course. But it is a part of the “liberal” philosophy to encourage this, and at earlier and earlier ages. Well -

If you have any need of information on my life and times since my life readings in 1939, I’d be glad to cooperate. It has been a very strange life indeed. Fortunately, I was early conditioned not to take external things too seriously, so it’s as if it all happened to someone else, for the most part. Maybe it did!

R7. 11/16/70 He wrote that he attended HLC’s lecture in his area: “You were just fine… I was planning on introducing myself thus: ‘So nice to see you again after all these years, Hugh Lynn; I’m sure you don’t remember me.
