GC: You will have before you the work and plans of the Health Home Remedies Co., members of which are present here in this room. We seek at this time guidance in carrying forward the work of the company, and information regarding the formulas of Ipsab and Tim. You will answer questions.
-
EC: Yes, we have the members of the Health Home Remedies Company, also the products they desire to distribute through this organization, with the formulas of the two properties that are under consideration in the present.
-
First, in giving that as we find that may be helpful to all concerned in the present, we will consider first the formulas that are used in the preparation of the properties. As we find, these are in line with that which will bring the desired results in the experience of individuals that may apply or use same for those conditions that have been of a disturbing nature in the experience of mankind for ages.
-
That lacking in Ipsab in the present, then, is this: There is not sufficient of the Calcium Chloride in the solution when these properties are added. Add the Atomidine when the solution is at normal temperature. If Tincture of Iodine is used, add at the near boiling point - and you will rectify much of that which is less active in the properties. If the atomic iodine is used, then add when the solution is less than ninety-eight (98) degrees in temperature.
-
The Calcium Chloride should be put into the solution not before the using of the sea water with the properties, but afterwards - but must be used as in the boiling point, or boiled with the solution from the toothache bark. Then it makes for a combination or an element, by the loosening of the atomic forces with same that becomes more effective with the other properties that have been given, as they are added.
-
As to that which may be given respecting the effect of this solution upon disorders that arise in the gums and in the enamel of the teeth themselves: It is known by scientific research (or so called scientific research) that the accumulations of the film (or you may use, of course, if so desired, the technical name of same - if you desire to be impressive or appear to be verbose in thine own expression of thine knowledge; but better use it in the plain words and let ALL understand) upon the teeth and gums are through the use of cooked and soft food, more by the very fact or act of using very hot and very cold foods or properties in the mouth of an individual. For nature attempts to protect the enamel and the gums themselves from such sudden changes. And this accumulation of foods makes the acids in the system. For we know by the proper tests that the secretions of the salivary glands are of an alkalin nature, and these are turned by the accumulations of decaying or changing food values - or the film’s accumulations upon the gums and teeth. Thus there is made place for the germ of what is called Pyorrhea, Rigg’s Disease, or such conditions that gradually arise in the mouth. First there is produced an irritation that makes for the loosening of the gum from the enamel. Then there is the accumulation of these same particles of film, and of those secretions that arise in the mouth, just below the edge of the gums; as the heat and cold that arise from the mastication of that taken - or that drunk by a body - makes for the accumulation of these under the edge of the gum itself, where the enamel is not protected so much as that which is in active use by the mastication of foods.
-
Now, in the very nature of the teeth, the enamel of same is a secretion of the body itself; as also are the toe nails, the finger nails, the hair of the head, the hair of the body, and the cuticle itself; that ability of the body through any portion where irritation may come - as we find in the hands of those who toil with tools, these are those things that must be created by the body itself. And it should be considered by all: There is no greater factory in the universe than that in a human body in its natural, normal reacting state. For there are those machines or glands within the body capable of producing, from the very air or water and the food values taken into the body, to take from or to reproduce ANY element AT ALL that is KNOWN in the material world!
-
What happens when there are those excesses of heat and cold, by the use of hot foods or cold foods; cold drinks more especially, or hot drinks? There is the attack first upon the thin edges of the film of the tissue of the gums themselves.
-
Now, in most conditions, especially where the individuals are not kept in an equal balance of the elements within the system itself to produce those activities within the glands that secrete or make for conditions within the body itself for the production of those things that produce the constant growth in same, they break down!
-
Now, with the Ipsab, we are adding to that, in a systematic way and manner in the body, which will supply to the mucous membranes of the glands themselves - that are acted upon by the glands of the secretions in the mouth, or those ducts that make for the conditions. That is why, then, it is seen, that with the use of this combination or compound as we find in Ipsab, when properly put together, we have those elements that supply to those ducts and glands and secretions within the mouth those elements to call for or produce the better activity within the system, that will bring about the action of those glands that will secrete and keep those conditions within the mouth itself or the teeth, that are GROWN within the BODY itself! So, we not only add to the ability of the system to BUILD these conditions within the mouth, but there are those properties in one of the elements that are destructive (combined with the Calcium Chloride and the elements of the vegetable forces) to the secretions that arise by this activity of acid in an alkalin reacting condition, to bring about not only the destruction but to produce in the mouth a normal, healthy condition in same.
-
Then, this is what happens when Ipsab is used where a mouth indicates that there is the bleeding or the receding, or the activity of properties in the system. First: The properties in same act upon the defective conditions to produce a cleansing, and an attacking of the influences that make for the conditions that are destructive to enamel and to the tissue itself. Also there is a stimulation to the glands, that make for an activity in the system itself to produce a greater activity in the direction that will overcome those conditions in the system. So, if these properties are used in a consistent way and manner, we will bring to such a body a normal, HEALTHY condition in the mouth; PROVIDED, to be sure, that the condition does not arise from some more subtle cause in other portions of the body, or that there is not taken such properties as iron in certain states, or lead, or copper, to make for destructive forces to the enamel itself, or of the glands in the system.
-
Then, in making preparations for the distribution, for the activities of those associated or interested, first there should be this as their ideal: The supplying is for the BENEFIT, for the health of those of the fellow man. And in supplying this there should naturally come that remuneration from such activities. For the laborer should ever be worthy of his hire, as in EVERY experience in man’s activity. Then, as we find, when we have made those preparations for the distribution, first we would seek through ANY place, condition or experience where the public may be acquainted with that which is of a helpful nature to those disturbed with conditions of this kind, or where preventative measures may be taken. You should sell as much for preventing the condition as you do for those that already have it! Then becomes the presenting of same directly to the public. Then the distribution of same through those channels or those places where they are accorded, or through the drug store - a real drug store, not an eating counter!
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would it be possible to boil the sea water down to a density sufficient to keep from having to add more salt to the solution? (A) It’s possible, but would be more expensive. The quantity we would add - of ordinary sea water - would be: To a gallon add two ounces of salt.
-
(Q) Should this salt be added to the sea water before the bark is boiled in? (A) As has been given.
-
(Q) Should this be added while bark is still in the solution, or after same is taken out? (A) It has been given; but that we may be sure: When there is taken the quantity that has been outlined for the bark - the sea water, as to that which has just been given, add the AMOUNT! Then boil it all together, if it’s sought to!
-
(Q) What quantity of bark and sea water would you suggest? (A) As has been given.
-
(Q) Can the Ipsab which I hold in my hand be made suitable for use? (A) With the addition of Calcium Chloride - but it will have to be at the heat, boiling point, when added.
-
(Q) Would you suggest any changes or additions to the copy of the pamphlet, which I hold in my hand, to be used in the individual cartons and for general distribution? [See 1800-21, Par. R2.] (A) Very good. We wouldn’t change it in the present.
-
(Q) Describe and, if possible, name the germ - or germs - causing pyorrhea. (A) It has just been given as to how it attacks. The germ - well, if you would have a bedbug, it’s just about that size and shape if you give him longer legs on the three sides of him! And the manner in which it attacks is as indicated, first to those portions where - with the activities of the sudden changes in the mouth - it accumulates through the activity of the ACID, in an ALKALIN condition!
-
(Q) Can this germ be isolated? (A) Read what has been given on this! There’s pages of it! You have it!
-
(Q) Is there a name for this germ? (A) It hasn’t been separated as yet, or isolated.
-
(Q) Would it be possible for us to direct a chemist as to how to isolate and kill this germ with Ipsab? (A) It is possible. It would be necessary to - yes, you can use Doren [?] [Jos. L. Dorion? See 1800-21, Par. R10—R13.] if you so desire, in Detroit - you’ll be there next Spring! And take where pus is forming, through those activities of such conditions - where pus and blood has formed. This we would take in those foods that are as accumulations in any ordinary mouth, and infect them with these, and then through the microscopic examination we will bring them sufficiently to life; keeping them, or this activity, under a temperature that is that of a normal mouth - which would be ninety-eight and seven-tenths (98 & 7/10) degrees of heat, keeping it in this form, and we can raise one of them so it’ll be a pretty good nice one! It is necessary, of course, to supply the foods which will be of the nature indicated; that is, must be both of the acids that form from the foods and of those from the alkalin secretions in the mouth, or from the salivary glands, see? [In re Dorion see Max Sidelman ltrs., 1800-21, Par. R10—R13.]
-
(Q) In distributing Ipsab, how many individuals should we start out with the product? (A) At least have one, and then you’ll have a start! The more, of course, - depends upon the abilities!
-
(Q) Regarding Tim - (A) (Interrupting) Let’s finish with Ipsab - we have just got one started! In presenting, have your own sales talk. NOT as that printed on the pamphlet, but that known from the accumulations of all those who have made and do make toothpastes that are used as cleansing materials for this film upon the gums themselves. From such research you may obtain all of that which is ALREADY known respecting film and its effect and the activities of same in a laboratory. But when this is used (the Ipsab), it is not in defiance of any of those toothpastes that are on the market. Of course, there are those that would work better with the Ipsab - and there may be eventually with this association, associated or combined with it - for they are products of it; that is, Ipana, for it carries a portion of the products, but NOT the destructive force of the germ itself, see? Then, through those very laboratories there may be obtained that which would be the talking, or a sales talk to those whom this may be presented. But in the distribution we would do it through those channels organized for such things. Be the manufacturers and distributors, and create the demand for it!
Regarding Tim, as we find, in this there is only one change that we would suggest - and that would be: In the preparation and the distribution of same, it may be put into TWO kinds of containers. For this particular product it will require, not as in Piso’s [?] [GD’s note: We never could find a hemorrhoid salve called Piso’s, so we assumed that he was referring to Pazo’s Ointment for Hemorrhoids.], where the collapsible tube with the nozzle for the insertion, for the blind or bleeding hemorrhoids or piles, may be used. For in the Piso’s [?] this is tinfoil; while if Tim is to be used in this way and manner it will require rather the leadfoil, which is not very much more expensive but may be used as the means for the better application for certain types of conditions; where there are those of a protruding nature, of course, the local or the regular application is that which may be put in the china, while with those that are of the nature where they arise from those conditions, that come from secretion of another gland - where irritations are produced in the system from same - these require that they be injected nearer to the sources of the conditions that arise, and these may need such a tube.
The distribution of this may be done in the same way and manner as the Ipsab. While it is not necessary that it be made such a talking point, when data or leaflet are left, put them together - doesn’t cost any more - and the same distributing point. If you start in and have an order for a dozen or twenty bottles of the Ipsab, and a dozen of the ointment or Tim, you’ll be able to double the same in the drug store! This will remain true throughout. And it’s a very poor salesman that wouldn’t be able to put out half a dozen to ten bottles of each every day!
- We are through with this reading.

PYORRHEA - Its History, Treatment and Prevention Health Home Remedies Company - Virginia Beach, Virginia
Use of Ipsab
According to the severity of the individual case IPSAB must be massaged thoroughly over the teeth and gums at regular intervals. If the gums are just sore and bleed, three times each week will be sufficient. If the gums are receding, five or six applications each week will be needed. When the disease has reached advanced stages, daily applications will be required. Clear water should be used to rinse the mouth after each application. THE REGULAR USE OF IPSAB WILL PREVENT PYORRHEA. One meal each day should consist of a raw vegetable salad. This will add to the system elements needed to bring the proper reaction to the treatment.
Manufacture and Distribution
IPSAB is manufactured under sanitary conditions and is chemically pure. The ingredients are plainly listed on each label.
For further information send your name and address to the Health Home Remedies Company, Box 103, Virginia Beach, Va. Upon request a one ounce bottle of IPSAB will be mailed you direct post paid for one dollar ($1.00), or you may call your local drug store.
If you are not personally interested pass this on to a relative or friend who may be benefited.

HISTORY OF PYORRHEA
No one knows how long man has suffered from pyorrhea. Its causes, symptoms, and treatment are matters of discussion and argument among both authorities and laymen. Some of the oldest historical records describe a disease very similar in effects to that we now call pyorrhea. Our modern civilization with soft, cooked foods and sheltered life has paved the way for the inroads of the germ causing this disturbance. In vain science has attempted to check the growing prevalence, but the percentage of those afflicted continues to increase with alarming rapidity. It is claimed by authorities that over 90% of all adults at some time suffer from pyorrhea. Dentists have claimed that over 50% of all teeth that are lost are affected by pyorrhea. In every mind the question arises, “Is there nothing I can do to save my teeth and gums?”
Cause and Symptoms
Though disputed by many dentists pyorrhea is believed to be produced through the action of a germ called the endamoeva buccalis which attacks the peridental membrane about the base of the teeth. In cooked foods the atomic structure is broken down. Fermentation takes place in the mouth and a film collects on the teeth; furnishing a place of refuge for the germs. First, gums bleed and become sore. Next, they recede, exposing the soft structure of the teeth. Finally, infection sets in, pus is formed, and the teeth grow loose, producing Rigg’s disease or pyorrhea in an advanced stage. The whole mouth takes on an unhealthy appearance. The breath is bad. The result is discomfort, loss of teeth and finally more serious complications.
Serious Effects
Pyorrhea is not merely a local infection. The mouth becomes a reservoir of poison that spreads through the alimentary canal and the blood stream to all parts of the system, settling in the weakest portions. From recent investigations authorities believe that rheumatism, appendicitis, neuritis, ulcer of the stomach, gall bladder trouble and malignant endocarditis are among the ailments caused by this disease.
Present Treatments
Many various treatments have been devised for pyorrhea. In some instances the teeth are scraped and treated with preparations of one kind and another. Local ipecac injections and emetin hydrochloride injections in the blood have been tried. Such treatments are painful and expensive. There is a real need for an inexpensive, simple remedy that will bring relief to the thousands who suffer.
Discovery of Ipsab
Over ten years ago, the first experiments were undertaken with the properties now used in IPSAB. Since that time constant tests have been made and changes and improvements found advisable in compounding a formula that is effective in combating pyorrhea in any stage. It is with a deep sincerity and a belief in the value of this product that the Health Home Remedies Company brings direct to the people a new, revolutionary discovery, IPSAB, a remedy for PYORRHEA. We seek your cooperation in using and testing this new discovery. It is SIMPLE TO APPLY, SAFE AND SURE in its effects. Try it, test it for yourself. Note the difference in the feel of your gums after even the first few applications.
IPSAB is a solution containing five ingredients combined at a carefully measured temperature and density to produce a chemical reaction of vital importance, but of greater importance is the reaction of this solution in the mouth of an individual suffering with pyorrhea. The tests which have been conducted have been carried on in the mouths of individuals afflicted, not merely in laboratory test tubes.
A Norfolk Pyorrhea Specialist Reports:
“I have treated eight cases of sore bleeding gums with IPSAB and in NO INSTANCE HAS IT FAILED TO GIVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS.
IPSAB stimulates the circulation, relieves soreness and improves the color of the gums. It also stimulates the activity of the Salivary glands and acts as an astringent in the mouth. I believe that the regular use of IPSAB is certainly beneficial to the health of the gums.”

Dear Tommy:
I am certainly sorry that things have gotten in such a mess. Thanks for your interest and help in trying to keep it going.
Enclosed you will find a copy of a letter I am writing to Boyd [Davis] and Sol [Tepper], which with the following will give you my attitude.
In substance I am telling them that their attitude and move to Fla. will be considered a breach of our agreement and so far as I am concerned will terminate our relations on Ipsab.
If you feel so inclined simply set still and let them go. I will get enough money to buy the cartons and give a good try at selling the stuff as we had planned with the new formula.
We will pay them their money back as we are able and simply let them go. I believe that when we place the stuff on the market it will certainly in the new cartons & bottles bring in enough to pay your expenses to work with it.
Certainly their departure will be a breach of agreement and we need have no further worry - except to pay them back exactly what they have put in.
If you decide that this is impossible for you to try - please give Muddie all the readings - our copies and file copies and do not let them have the formula.
Naturally I hope you can stay. If you can let me know and I’ll get the money for cartons, send it to you and also enough for expenses until some comes in. I believe it’s worth a try. Don’t fuss with them any more. It doesn’t do any good and just gets things mixed up.
I can’t tell until the first of the week when I will be home. Things look good here. For writing, wire me collect, if you like your decision.
Love, HL
I won’t try to run things alone with Boyd & Sol. I’ll dissolve the Co. I guess, or try to get them out and hold it alone temporarily.
I’d be happy to try it with you alone - and after this trip I won’t run away on you any more. It’s a promise.
R5. 11/23/34 HLC’s letter to Boyd Davis & Sol Tepper:
Dear Boyd and Sol:
I learned from Mother’s letter yesterday that you have decided to go to Fla. Before leaving will you let me have the following information:
- What is the exact amount of the funds to date which you have put in the Health Home Remedies Co.?
- Have you ordered and paid for the bottles agreed upon?
- Have you ordered and paid for the cartons agreed upon?
- Have you had the pamphlet printed?
When I left the Beach I understood that all of the above were to be taken care of and that you would begin the selling of Ipsab at once.
Am I to consider your departure from Virginia Beach a termination of our agreement? Kindly advise me at once in order that I may make the necessary arrangements to continue operations.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce
R6. 12/20/34 HLC’s letter to Boyd Davis & Sol Tepper:
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Boyd and Sol:
I have been back at the beach for just a few days. My uncle died in Kentucky and it was necessary for us to leave New York about a week sooner than we expected. We were in Kentucky for ten days and on the way back (we drove through) I had the misfortune to turn the car over on a Tennessee mountain. No one was seriously hurt. We were delayed and the car was scratched up a bit, though not damaged as much as might be expected.
Regarding the Health Home Remedies Co., first, please get it straight in your minds that I want to be perfectly fair with you. At the same time I do not intend for our relationship to continue with the constant misunderstandings and breaking of agreements that have characterized it here-to-fore. I appreciate your positions and understand why you have acted as you have. I assure you that I hold no hard feelings in the matter. However, we must face the facts.
Gilpin is holding five gross of bottles and a thousand caps ordered in the name of the Health Home Remedies Co. From your letter, Boyd, which I received in New York I expected this bill to have been already paid or the money for it on deposit. From your letter I also expected the cartons to have been ordered and paid for. I am mentioning these two items with out present consideration of the previous inconsistencies in your actions and agreements because you made these suggestions yourself in writing without any request on my part.
Had these matters been taken care of we would now be in a position to discuss future relations on a new basic agreement. As the matter stands I feel that you have forfeited your interest in the company through repeated breaks in both your written and verbal agreements.
I certainly do not feel that you should lose the money you have put into the company. If you will let me have the figures as to the amount you have so far contributed I will check same with the company’s books and make arrangements with you to reimburse both of you. Please let me hear from you as soon as possible.
Let’s not have any hard feelings about this whole matter. I think you can see my position. The company certainly will never succeed as it has recently been handled. I believe in the products and want to carry on, but I will have to make new arrangements. Your interest and COOPERATION will always be welcome. I will always be ready to play fair and square with you at any time.
Best wishes to you both for a Merry Christmas.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce
R7. 1/17/35 Boyd Davis’ letter to GD:
Miami, Fla.
Dearest Sister,
There is no need to apologize for not writing. I haven’t felt much like doing any thing since I’ve been here. I guess I’ve been pretty low, especially around Christmas. Your letter cheered me up quite a bit or rather it made me conscious of just how bad off I really was. I realize that it doesn’t ever do any good but I stayed drunk practically all the time for over a month when I first came down here but I think I’m about to get on my feet again now. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Every thing I’ve ever done seemed to be the wrong thing to do and I do more than my share of worrying about it which only makes matters worse. I haven’t heard from Burlynn in a pretty good while. She wrote real often at first and I never answered her letters so I can’t very well blame her for not writing now. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to write to her but I just didn’t feel like it and any thing I might have said might have only made things worse. The whole trouble was getting married when I didn’t have but very little money & no job ahead. I put too much faith in that Ipsab I guess. I should have waited but we didn’t so that’s that. Now she wants to get a divorce because she thinks I want one. I don’t want a divorce but I haven’t any money to live on myself and no job in view so I can’t very well take care of her. It’s so different from what I had always planned my marriage to be like and yet it’s every bit my own fault. I don’t believe I could ever find a girl that could make a better wife than she is. But, I’m going to stop thinking about it so much & maybe something will happen to make us all feel better soon.
As far as the Ipsab is concerned, I believe in it to the fullest extent and I never have wanted to withdraw what we put into it, but both Hugh L. & Thomas [House] seemed to want us out of it and they probably have their reasons. However, I could never get along with Tommy under any circumstances much less a business. There are just some things about him that I don’t like & I suppose he feels the same way about me whether he says so or not. We were probably born under two signs that have nothing in common, I don’t know. Any way, it’s up to Hugh L. if he wants us to withdraw that’s what I’ll do. It will in all probability make plenty of money for someone but it still isn’t worth starting a squabble over. When I feel like myself again I’ll write to him & tell him how I feel about the whole thing.
If I don’t get a job by Monday Sol [Tepper], Boo Hawkins & myself are going down to the Keys & camp the rest of the winter. I haven’t any money and we can live down there for nothing, fishing, etc.
I might go by Selma when we leave. I don’t know yet.
I’ll write again when we get down there.
Lots of Love, Boyd
P.S. Will you PLEASE write Tillie [Burlynn] a nice long letter. She would appreciate it a lot. I guess she has been worse off than I have, thanks to me. B.

R8. 1/35 Announcement sent to A.R.E. Members:
A N N O U N C E M E N T
The Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., takes pleasure in announcing that two specific remedies which have been tested over a period of years in individual cases have been turned over to the Health Home Remedies Cor., organized to manufacture and distribute these products to the public.
It is not with an idea of exploitation that these remedies are being placed upon the market, but with a sincere belief that they can and will bring relief from suffering to hundreds and thousands where heretofore only a fortunate few have been helped.
The first of these products is IPSAB, a remedy for PYORRHEA. For centuries this disease has baffled science. Since first given over ten years ago for an individual in one of Mr. Edgar Cayce’s psychic readings IPSAB has been tested over and over until now a commercial formula makes possible its general distribution. In all stages of the disease, sore, bleeding gums, receding gums and actual deterioration, IPSAB has proven an effective remedy.
The second of these products, also given in an individual reading, is T-I-M, a remedy for HEMORRHOIDS (piles). Many preparations are now on the market for this condition, but those who have used T-I-M declare that nothing they have used has given them such instant and lasting relief as this soothing ointment.
If you are interested in either of these remedies, or have friends who may be benefitted, write to the Health Home Remedies Co., Box 1C3, Virginia Beach, Virginia, sending name and address. Further data will be mailed promptly. Upon request either product will be sent post paid C.O.D. $1.00 (IPSAB - 1 ounce bottle) (T-I-M - 1 ounce jar).
Sincerely yours

R10. 2/20/50 Max Sidelman’s letter to Joseph Dorion:
Mr. Joseph L. Dorion Chicago College of Osteopathy Chicago, Ill.
Dear Sir:
If this were a business letter I would know how to begin, but I have a story to tell which makes it a bit difficult, so please bear with me.
Years ago there was a company located in Norfolk, Va. that had a theory, to wit: Pyorrhea is caused by a germ. They tried to get some chemist to prove this theory, but for some reason was unable to find the right man to carry out this work. Someone suggested that they contact a chemist by the name of Doren [?] in the city of Detroit. It was said that he was the right man to Isolate this pyorrhea germ. I don’t know what happened, but they did not locate him. Years passed…some of the men either lost interest or withdrew from the company, some of them died. Then the war came along and it was all forgotten.
Two years ago, I became the sole manufacturer and distributor of IPSAB Gum Massage. This is the product which the aforementioned company was primarily interested in. It was not until late 1949 that I learned this story, so I decided to carry on from there and see if I could find this Mr. Doren? You will notice that there is a question mark after the name Doren - DOREN. That is because we did not know if that was the correct way to spell the name.
About two weeks ago, I wrote to the Dept. of Health, Detroit, Mich., requesting information. In reply they sent me the following, - (“Jos. L. Dorion, Formerly instructor Detroit Institute Technology, left about 3 years ago, now at Chicago College of Osteopathy”).
With the hopes that you are the man, I have taken the liberty of writing this letter. Without going into too much detail at the present time, will you please inform me if you are the one we are looking for and if you are in the position to do this kind of work? An early reply will be appreciated.
Sincerely yours, Max Sidelman

Dear Sir:
Your letter of the 20th received and contents read carefully. In reply I may state that I taught Chemistry at the Detroit Institute of Technology for a period of 20 years from 1926 to 1946. At that time I did a lot of analytical work on various formulae of different medicines for a lot of different people and companies and enjoyed the work very much. Dean E. P. Stout of same college assisted me in a lot of investigational work. We did not have much work on Bacteriology, such as you mentioned about the pyorrhea germ but I think we could do some work here at the college on that line if you so desire. I teach here and take care of the Pharmaceutical work.
Trusting this answers part of your inquiries,
Very truly, Joseph L. Dorion PHMB, LLB, LIM

Prof. J. L. Dorion 5250 S. Ellis Ave. Chicago 15, Ill.
Dear Sir:
Your letter received and needless to say we are happy that our long search for you has at last been successful. We would be honored to have you do this research work for us, but being uninitiated in this sort of thing we would appreciate more information as to what kind of work entails.
Ipsab Distributors is not a large organization. It is a small new company that manufacturers a gum massage for sore bleeding gums. The man that formulated Ipsab originally claimed that it is a specific for pyorrhea. His theory was that pyorrhea is a germ, but he could not prove it scientifically. After this man passed on, I agreed to carry on with Ipsab for he was very anxious to get it to the millions of people that suffer from this ailment and cannot afford the expense of a long series of treatments. He also hoped to put it into every dental clinic throughout the country, so that it would be available to everyone.
I cannot put the whole story on paper, but this will give you an idea of what we are trying to do. We sincerely hope you will consent to go along with us, and try to prove that pyorrhea is a germ.
Awaiting a favorable reply…
We are,
Sincerely yours,
IPSAB DISTRIBUTORS
R13. 5/3/50 Max Sidelman’s letter to Joseph Dorion:
Dear Dr. Dorion:
I haven’t heard from you in answer to my letter of March 9th, and frankly, I am quite disappointed. Having finally found you after so many years, with your encouraging letter of March 1st which indicated you would work with us, I felt that now we were on the right track and our real work in the research on Pyorrhea could begin.
In my two previous letters, I gave you the history of IPSAB. It has been proven that it can do the trick. It CAN cure pyorrhea and disease of the gums. However, the research that you can do for us to help prove that pyorrhea is caused by a germ is the last link in this chain, and I have put too much of myself into this project, to stop. I have determined to make it my life’s work. It is too important a discovery to stop our work, now that we are on the right track in having found the one man who can help us, and you, Dr. Dorion, are that man.
There are important contributions being made in science daily. Added to cancer, polio, TB, heart disease, arthritis, comes Pyorrhea. As you know, there are many diseases transmitted to the human body through the mouth and if we can prove to the people that pyorrhea is caused by a germ, by our conquering this disease, we will without doubt halt the inroads of other diseases in the system.
I hope you will give this matter more thought and let me hear from you. If you feel that I should come to Chicago, to discuss this matter more at length before we proceed, please advise me at once and I will make the arrangements, but do by all means let me hear from you.
With kindest personal regards, believe me
Very sincerely, Max Sidelman
