Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:35 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ky.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions; also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1829].
-
Now as we find, there is rather a complication of disturbances that prevent the better normal physical functioning.
-
Most of these, however, grow out of one specific disturbance; though some of the disturbances that are produced in the functioning of the organisms of the body have and do become more disturbing, or as much disturbing as the primary causes.
-
These then are the disturbances as we find them with this body of [1829] we are speaking of:
-
The blood supply indicates a form of anemia. This arises from the very nature or character of the pelvic disturbance as combined with the disturbances arising through the digestive system, owing to those reflexes upon the nervous activity of the system, as will be seen.
-
This character of anemia - as was primarily the cause - is from an excess of a character of lymph and a lack of the proper elements for the coagulation or the thummim (?) [thiamine?] in the blood stream - the life force.
-
In the nervous system - as indicated - there are the causes for some disturbances, - as the constant headaches, as well as a contributory cause to the upset digestion which exists in portions of the bodily forces themselves.
-
These pressures arise from conditions in the organs of the pelvis, - namely: Not only those which exist and have existed from scar tissue in the pelvic organs themselves, but the position of the womb itself and those conditions in the vulva area. Even the clitoris is involved in the scar tissue; but especially in the ovary in the right side there IS the formation of a lymph cyst at present. And these pressures cause the headaches, as applying to the nervous system as well as adding to the drains upon the flow of the lymph and upon the blood stream through the lymph circulation.
-
In the organs themselves, - many of them are affected from the attempts of the system to eliminate those poisons that arise from the attempts of the kidneys to eliminate the excess uric poisons arising from inflammation produced through the pelvis; also causing the sympathetic reaction to the digestive forces of the body by the drain upon the hepatic circulation - and the effects to the throat and portions through the eyes or about same.
-
The disturbance then, primarily, arises from those conditions of the organs of the pelvis.
-
These, as have been indicated, are more from scar tissue than from other causes; though the lack of the purifying of the system at the time these operative forces were carried on has allowed accumulations there, that come to be very aggravating to the whole of the system at times.
-
While it will be necessary from time to time to change the applications as we find would be made for beneficial effects for this body, these in the present would aid in bringing the better influences and forces for the body:
-
First, we would begin to use the Atomidine douches about three times each week, - to be sure, not when there is a great flow at the menstrual periods or those eliminating periods. The proportions would be a level teaspoonful of Atomidine to the quart of water, body-temperature. Use this in a Fountain Syringe with a vaginal applicator.
-
Then, after the third or fourth douche, begin with the use of the Violet Ray (hand machine) vaginal applicator. This should not be too large an applicator, but so that the point of same rests almost, or in perfect contact with the mouth of the womb itself. Do not use this for more than half a minute in the beginning, but after the third or fourth application it may be gradually increased to a minute - which would be after a few weeks, you see - for it would only be used once each week, but at the same period each week, of course.
-
Also, at least three or four times each week, we would have a gentle massage over the abdominal area, - that is the front AND back, with an equal combination of Olive Oil, Peanut Oil and Cedar Wood Oil. This does not mean to merely pat these oils on, but massage gently, slowly, not only so that the bodily forces absorb same but so that the muscular forces are kneaded along these areas. Massage the front portion to the pubic center, ACROSS the lower frontal bone; and across the small of the back and that area even to the kidneys themselves, - that is, extending from the 9th dorsal area, or the small or middle part of the back, above the small of back.
-
Then the diet:
-
Refrain from the use of any fried foods at all. At least one meal each day should consist principally of raw, fresh vegetables; such as celery, lettuce, tomatoes, peas (the peas may be cooked), spinach, mustard, onions, radish, - any or all of these.
-
If it is found that any one disagrees with the body, - as the onion or the radish at times, - then do not use same. These may be taken all or in part at one time. Use a salad or mayonnaise dressing for same.
-
Cereal drinks are preferable to tea or coffee.
-
Not too great quantities of sugar. The principal sweets would be honey with the honeycomb.
-
After these have ben used for four weeks - all of these - we would give further instructions for this body.
-
If there is the need for the greater eliminations, use colonic irrigations, or with same use oil as an aid in elimination.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is the trouble with my throat? Is it caused from pus in my right tonsil, as the doctor says, and advises to be removed? (A) This as we find is more of a sympathetic condition, and there needs be here a gargling of the throat with first an acid-reacting antiseptic and then with an alkaline; or use about half-strength Listerine of a morning and full strength Glyco-Thymoline in the evening. This may be done until there is relief of the activities, and until all of the treatments suggested have had time to act upon the body, - then it would be left off.
-
(Q) It is not necessary for an operation to remove tonsils, then? (A) Not at the present.
-
(Q) Why have I never been able to have other children? (A) The conditions in the organs of the pelvis themselves.
-
(Q) What should be done for trouble with my stomach? (A) As indicated, those conditions as we find are reflexes, and with the application of all those things suggested - especially in the diet, and with the electrical forces as well as the rubs - we will relieve these disturbances.
Do these indicated, and then - at the period given - we would give further instructions.
- We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/28/39 [1829]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received the reading yesterday for which I am deeply grateful. I also received your last letter this morning. There are some things I do not understand about the reading so you may think I must be rather dull but I will ask your help with a part of it. I do not understand about the indication of the blood supply. Would that indicate there is a malignant condition in the pelvis? Do you think that the condition I have can be cured, even though it has been in existence for so long? I am going to follow your instructions as nearly as is possible for me to do so, for I do believe that you can do more for me than any one else can. I started with your treatment as soon as I received your letter and could get the material. But I have not been able to get the peanut oil in town yet. I had an order placed for it yesterday from the drug store and they said they would try to get it for me but did not know whether they could or not. In the mean time, I combined the Olive Oil and the Cedar Wood Oil and massaged the abdominal area last night as you instructed. I also used the atomidine douche last night. I have no Violet Ray Vaginal Applicator. I looked all over town yesterday and failed to find one. I finally went to see Dr. Martha Beard thinking she might have one. She said she did not have one but that she had worked with you on several cases, and she gave the osteopath treatment, and it may be that the osteopath treatment could be substituted for the Violet Ray treatment. What is your suggestion? Can you tell me where I could get the applicator and also where I can get the peanut oil?
I am going to be very strict with my diet for I do want to be real well so badly. However, the diet is not a new one to me, as I have been reading the Nature Path magazine for two years. I really know better than I usually do about my diet. But this Southern cooking which I have learned proves too much of a temptation to me at times, especially the pastries or anything sweet. But when we were in Florida two months ago I got some pure honey at the health food store and I have substituted this almost entirely since that time. I am going to be very careful with my diet though from now on. Do you think this will cleanse the blood stream? I am not going to use coffee or tea, very little of meats and almost entirely cereals, fruits, and vegetables, nuts, cheese, etc. Is that correct?
I will let you know about ten days before the four week period of following the treatments is ended, so that you may make the appointment for my check reading and I hope at that time I will have a favorable report.
Of course I did not know about the presence of the lymph cyst in the right ovary. I hope with your treatments this formation can soon be absorbed.
I shall use the throat gargle each day. Thanks again for every thing.
Sincerely, [1829]
R2. 3/2/39 EC’s letter to [1829]:
Dear [1829]:
Yours of the 28th just received - so will answer right away, am glad to try and explain as best I may - no do not think you are dumb at all - remember I am not a Dr and Dr. Beard should be able to explain it to you possibly much better than I - but here is my answer to your questions; - No the trouble in blood supply would not necessarily mean it was malignant, and from the suggestion given would say it was not - tho the use of radium would indicate Dr felt it might be else he would have never used that. Yes the condition should be cured even tho you have been ill some time - have known cases as long or longer than yours and they were cured - let’s give the suggestion a good fair trial - also do a good job of praying about it - don’t mean to imply that you don’t - and haven’t - but am convinced every day, [1829], there is more help in prayer than all the Dr.’s in the country - not that we are not to do something - for HE told the man to wash in the Pool - He also applied clay with Spittal to the eyes of the blind. But their faith did its share also - but know you understand that.
The Drug store will get the Peanut oil am sure - it is made in Ala., and possibly in Suffolk, Va., but do not know by WHOM - but am sure the druggist will find it. No, no the osteopath will not take the place of the Violet Ray - isn’t Tom Baugh [Regarding Tom Baugh - see Par. R5 11/23/59 article below, in Hopkinsville, Ky., NEW ERA and 1/63 A.R.E. Bulletin.] still in business there he can get it for you - where ever there is Violet ray machines sold they can get the vignal [vaginal] applicator - Yes Dr. Beard has worked and is at present working with some who have had readings - but it is not her work as yet - may be before you are through but it will not take the place of the Violet Ray - and that special treatment - that applies the electricity to affected parts - and is evidently needed now.
The diet is very necessary - use honey for sweets and the rest of diet as suggested - see that the eliminations are regular - change that as much as possible with the diet - lots of green vegetables - lots of raw foods - like salads.
Hope have covered everything - if haven’t please don’t hesitate to write me - have special reason for wishing to see you get good and well - You see I owe that much to your Grand-Father, and most of all to my Savior if can be of help wish to do so,
With all good wishes,
Sincerely Edgar Cayce
R3. 3/20/39 [1829]‘s letter to EC:
Hopkinsville, Ky.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
At your request I am writing you about ten days before the four week period of following the treatment which you prescribed for me is ended, so that you may make the appointment for my Check Reading. I have followed your instructions just as closely as I possibly could. I have used the Atomidine douches regularly three times each week. I have used a teaspoonful of Atomidine in a quart of warm water. You see I have not had my menstrual periods except for a short duration of time at one time since the operation I had two and one half years ago. This operation they told me was to scrape the womb and thus rid it of a bunch of small tumors at the mouth of the womb to prevent a constant small flow of blood. At that time they gave me one X-ray treatment which was to stop the menstrual periods as at my age, forty years, it was about the time for the change of life any way, and in that way there would be no danger of the flooding spells which sometimes come at this time of life. They also gave me two administrations of radium. When I asked them if I had a malignant condition, they told me and at other times two other members of my family, absolutely that condition did not exist but that these days when they scraped the womb they always gave the radium so as to clean the womb out thoroughly instead of the danger of using such a sharp instrument to scrape the womb too closely. But regardless of what they said I have not been able to keep from worrying about it ever since that time and especially in the last few months since the womb has been so painful. That is one reason why your reading did seem so important to me. Since that operation of mine I have talked to several others who have had the same operation and in each case the radium has been administered. I know nothing about radium but to me all this just seems like an experiment. I do not mean to say anything personally against any doctor but I cannot help but feel that so much of their work is experimental, it makes me have very little confidence in the most of them.
At last the Violet Ray hand machine I ordered through Mr. Baugh came and I used it for the first time last week. I did not know how much I should turn it on to use it so just turned it on very lightly. Was that correct? and have I used it correctly? I will use that two more times in this month. I have massaged the abdominal area three or four times a week with equal combination of Olive Oil, Peanut Oil and Cedar Wood Oil, and also the back. This seems to have been beneficial to me. I have not had any need for any kind of an aid to elimination as I have been very careful to follow your directions as to the diet and have had very regular eliminations. I have taken one enema as I thought that was necessary. I do not think I have had as much trouble with my stomach, nor such frequency of headaches since this diet was started, but as yet I still have the pains in the Pelvis and back. I have gargled my throat each evening with full strength Glyco-Thymoline and each morning with half strength Listerine and I do believe my throat and chest are some better. Thanks again and will be expecting to hear from you soon.
Sincerely, [1829]

R5. 11/23/59 Article “OFFICE CAT - He Is Too Busy With Outside Interests To Think About Himself”, [See Par. R2 above, re Tom Baugh] published in Hopkinsville, Ky., paper NEW ERA:
Seeing Tom Baugh playing a round of golf here last Wednesday (you will recall how extremely cold it was that day) made it difficult for us to realize that this hardy Hopkinsville businessman will be 80 years old next May 22.
Weather means nothing to Tom, for even a little snow has never stopped him from enjoying his favorite sport. His love for gold, weather or no, has even attracted the attention of the metropolitan press, you may recall. His enthusiasm for the game with its beneficial outdoor exercise is a contributing factor in keeping him so young in spirit.
Tom has another interest which, we think, also contributes to his youthfulness as he approaches the octogenarian category. It is about his hobby that we wish to tell today.
Away back yonder in 1892 Tom visited the Tennessee Centennial. There he saw a collection of old coins that fascinated him. From that day to this he has been an enthusiast for collecting old money. As a result, he has an impressive collection of both coins and paper money which he has encased in three glass top frames.
The accompanying picture shows Tom proudly holding one of the frames. The only piece displayed here that is not actual money is a token that looks like a dollar. But here is the difference: On the metal piece is printed “One Dam.” Then there is “United Snakes of America…Free Silver, 16 to 1. The date was 1896.
That will bring back memories to some readers who will recall the first race that William Jennings Bryan made for the presidency of this country. He was the free silver candidate, you remember.
Another coin that Tom points to with pride is a Mexican half dollar. The collector explains: “That is the half dollar I used to make an electrode for an electronic cell Edgar Cayce used to cure a sick man.” That was before the time this Hopkinsville man, who diagnosed medical cases while in a self-imposed hypnotic trance, became nationally famous.
Mr. Cayce would attach one electrode…it had to be a silver one…to the arm of the ill person, and the other…of nickel, as we recall…to his ankle. The electrodes were attached to his cell by wires. A current would run through the patient’s body to cure stiff joints. “And it really cured people, too,” Tom told us.
Tom was so carried away on the subject of his old buddy Edgar Cayce that he forgot his coin collection, and so did we.
“There was that fellow out in Seattle, Washington,” Tom went On. “He was stone blind with all hope gone that his sight would ever be restored. Then someone told him of Edgar Cayce, so the blind man wrote him.”
Tom was with the clairvoyant just after the letter was received here. “Edgar lay on the couch and went into trance. He began talking and said that there was a growth inside the blind man’s skull that was pressing against a nerve. Edgar said this resulted from an accident the man had two years previously, which fractured his skull. His advice was to have a surgeon operate and remove the growth.” Tom said this was done and that the man’s sight was restored.
Not being a coin collector, much of Tom’s displays went over our head. However, we are are that Bob Woodard and other local numismatologists will enjoy seeing his collection.
R6. 1/63 A.R.E. Bulletin article “A PIONEER OF THE CAYCE READINGS” [with photograph of Thomas J. Baugh and Hugh Lynn Cayce]:
Mr. Thomas J. Baugh of Hopkinsville, Kentucky was interviewed recently by Hugh Lynn Cayce on his reminiscences of Edgar Cayce. Mr. Baugh recalled Edgar Cayce as “just one of us boys - a mighty fine boy.” He remembered back to the first psychic readings given by Edgar Cayce, in 1910 or ‘11. One of these was given for a Hopkinsville policeman who had been in bed for six months, hardly able to move. The readings called, for the first time, the wet-cell appliance, describing how to construct it.
Mr. Baugh was at that time employed with the local telephone company but was interested in things electrical - he later became one of the first electrical engineers. Either he offered was asked to make up this wet-cell appliance prescribed for the disabled policeman. It was applied as directed. “In three days,” says Mr. Baugh, “he was walking around.” It also helped another Hopkinsville person, Mr. Baugh, continued, a woman who was paralyzed.
Yes, Mr. Baugh could remember Edgar Cayce’s losing his voice, regaining it temporarily under hypnotism, regaining it to keep under his own clairvoyance. He also remembered having seen the public performance of Edgar Cayce’s self-induced trance.
Mr. Baugh, now 79 years of age, plays golf nearly every day, missed only fifteen days last year. He has played with leading “pro’s” has even played on ice. He was pleased to know how widely the wet-cell and radio-active appliances have been used.

B1. 2/18/39 Mrs. [1829]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your letter was received several days ago. Thanks very much. I shall be expecting to have my reading given the twenty second. At your request I shall remain as quiet as possible during that time. I will be here at … St., at home.
I will attempt to tell you something about my condition as best I can and hope that this will help to clarify the reading for me. All my life my menstruation has been entirely regular and normal but I have had my right ovary to pain at times, showing me that it is weak, but to my knowledge I had never had any unusual pains in the womb. About three years ago when I had my menses they did not stop at the regular time. However I was not flooding. I would lie down for a while and it seems that the womb would fill up, then when I sat up the womb would empty itself. I got uneasy about this condition so sought the advice of the physician. He gave me some medicine to take and told me to go home and go to bed and stay quiet. I did, but this did not improve the condition. In a few days when he came up here and found that I was no better, he questioned me as to my age. I told him I was forty years of age. He asked my [me?] how many children I had had. I told him only one. (She was born eighteen months after I was married. She lived two years and died with colitis. This almost grieved me to death as I had always expected to have a family when we were married. She seemed such an exceptional child to us, but I guess that was natural. They tried to console me by saying that I was young and as the other children came into my life they would help me to get over the death of this one. I waited patiently but no more came.) The doctor then told me that I had a cluster of small tumors at the mouth of the womb which would not allow the womb to close and when I moved that caused these tumors to break and bleed. Whether or not that was the correct diagnosis of my trouble, I do not know. I wish I had more confidence in doctors as a whole but I have not. I know they do a lot of good and I realize they must make mistakes sometimes, but it is a serious thing to be a doctor and know that human lives are in your hands. The doctor said I would have to have an operation to remove the tumors and scrape the womb. I did not want to have that done for I still hoped for a family. He just laughed and said with my husband and my mother I had enough babies to take care of. It ended by my going to the hospital the next morning. I made them promise before I went to sleep positively they would do nothing except scrape the womb. When I awoke I found they had given me radium, and they explained to me that now they always give the radium when they scrape the womb. No, I did not know that. Thirteen months after that I started menstruating again. I was regular for six months. During that time I felt much better, but I have not felt at all well since that has stopped. My womb hurts all the time, sometimes more than at other-times. I wonder what is the cause of this and what should be done for it. I was in bed for some time after that operation but from that time my right ovary has not given me one bit of trouble. I have the headaches so much which may be caused from my stomach as I have trouble with it some too. Now for the last several months I have been having trouble with my throat. I took some treatments from the specialist as he said it was caused from pus in my right tonsil. He expected to lance it but I wanted to hear from you first as that might not be the trouble, so I stopped going to him. I hope this explanation will be of help to you. [1829]
