This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of April, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1829], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. Now as we find, in some respects conditions show improvements.

4. There are days and periods, however, when there is some anxiety.

5. As yet there has NOT been sufficient time for the reactions from the use of the Violet Ray that has been indicated through a Vaginal Applicator, to show or give the full reactions.

6. Hence in the present, we would continue the use of this, IN the manner as has been indicated; as well as the use of the rubs that will assist in better equalizing and aiding the system in bringing better coordinating and cooperative influences through the assimilating and eliminating system.

7. Keep the eliminations proper, but build greater strength and vitality through the digestive and assimilating forces.

8. And as this is gradually accomplished, those inclinations for the conditions throughout the pelvic organs, or those conditions of the natures that are inclined to be a strenuous disturbance, will be gradually lessened.

9. We would not change, as yet, from those applications and suggestions which have been indicated for the greater improvement to the general physical health of this body, [1829].

10. Ready for questions.

11. (Q) How long before other instructions should be given? (A) In at least sixty to ninety days.

12. (Q) Are violet ray treatments given properly? (A) These are very well, though these - as we have indicated - are not as yet sufficient to produce the proper reaction. Use more of the Vaseline upon the applicator in making the application, and there will NOT be so severe a reaction in its use.

13. (Q) Should all present treatments be continued? (A) As just indicated.

R1. 4/10/39 [1829]‘s letter to EC:

Hopkinsville, Ky.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I received the reading from you one day and the other letter the next day. Thanks very much. I am sorry you did not get my letter until after the reading. I should have written you earlier but had been very busy as mother’s house girl was sick and I just neglected writing you as early as I should have. But I kept in mind the time of the reading and during that time I stopped my work and relaxed and concentrated on my condition. But any way you answered almost every thing I was so anxious to know about. There were just a few other things I wanted to know about. One thing was concerning my heart which I described to you in my last letter. Another thing I had asked you about was why I am so abnormally warm all the time. The answer to these two questions may be the same as when I perspire so freely I seem to get so weak and the muscles all around my heart ache. In my first reading you said there is the presence of a lymph cyst in the right ovary. I have not asked you before, but I wonder if you can give me an idea about the size of this growth. I appreciate your interest in my case and I am going to faithfully carry out your every suggestion for I am so anxious to get rid of this trouble as soon as I possibly can and feel real well again.

I am continuing the same full treatment according to your suggestions and am using the Violet Ray treatment once a week regularly. I think the trouble there is I have not turned in on strong enough. I used it turned on a little more the last time. I know that one big trouble with me is my diet. It seems that I have no will power whatever when it comes to refusing food. I have gained so much in weight I hardly look like the same person. I want to lose some of this weight as I know I have gained too much, but at the present I have not succeeded. I have tried to take physical culture exercises but that makes my abdomen too sore to take any strenuous exercise at all. I walk a lot but that is the most exercise I can take. This is so unusual for me as I have always been so active until I started having so much abdominal trouble. I have always taken special pleasure in playing tennis and roller skating. But now even when I walk up the steps I am panting for breath. I must be getting old in a great big hurry. Doctor Stites [Dr. Stites, M.D.] tells me I have that blood in me and they all go like race horses but getting any place in a hurry like I have always done is beyond me now.

Thanks again for everything and I am still trying my best to do everything you suggest so that I may soon be feeling like a new person.

R2. 4/17/39 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1829]:

Dear [1829]:

Thanks for yours of the 10th - think the excessive heat is from the natural quick flow of the circulation from any inflammation in the system - like condition in pelvis and the cyst - as spoken of in first reading wrather than any heart condition - except reflex. As to size of the cyst - this should with the application of the suggestions be reducing or possibly non-existent now. These we will try and figure all out for you the next time there is a check up on how you are feeling - which would have done in another three or four weeks then we will try and get together on questions and time.

You will have to stick pretty close to the diet [1829] - have you ever tried the Grape-Juice diet for reducing. Take about two ounces of Welch grape juice and one oz of water half hour before the noon and evening meal and at bed time. Believe in a few weeks you will see a lot of difference, some to whom this has been given has lost as much as 20 pounds in three months, and hasn’t made them weak either. Yes there was a lady here yesterday afternoon [Mrs. [582]?] said she had lost 40 pounds in last four months and just feels fine, looks lots better also.

Do hope you will soon be feeling a whole lot better - try grape juice. Think you will like it.

R3. 4/28/39 Mrs. [1829]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I received your letter a few days ago. Thanks very much for your suggestion. I have taken the grape juice regularly since you made this suggestion. I have not lost any weight yet but I may do so in time.

As this is near the first of the month I am sending you a report on my condition. I am sorry to say that I do not feel any better than I did last month. I have taken the douches regularly, have been as careful as I could be with my diet. I have used the glyco-thymoline regularly but my throat is not any better seemingly. I will think it is better then i I laugh a bit or talk a bit too much my throat really hurts, and it seems to be getting down in my chest. Every morning when I awaken it seems that my throat is raw.

I am also still using the violet ray treatment, but tonight when I used it a puzzling thing happened. There was a small amount of bright red blood on the end of the applicator. This has me quite worried. My womb has been very tender lately, and in the last weeks or so sharp pains dart all through the womb. It is so sore I can hardly stand it. I have not been having any bloody discharge until this occurrence tonight. I have not menstruated for some time. And now tonight no more blood has passed from me except when I used the violet ray. But all the organs in the pelvis seem swollen. My right breast has been unusually tender lately, especially around the nipple. What is the cause of all this and what should I do for It? I know you are thinking I must be very much worried and really I am. I guess there would be only one way to insert that vaginal applicator but with my womb being out of place as you said. I may not have the applicator on it. I don’t know what it is but I do know something is terribly wrong some where. Needless to say the lower part of my back is hurting. Of course this is caused from the condition of the womb.

I will be anxious to hear from you as soon as it will be convenient for you to write me. Thanks again.

Dear [1829]:

Have yours of the 28th - don’t like the sound of the reactions you are having one bit - doesn’t sound good at all and know it is worrying you - it may be that you will require further radium treatments [1829] seems too bad that they were ever given - from the information; but feel from what you say now that this will possibly be necessary again

• so who ever it was that you had then would see them again and let them arrange it for you.

Will be most anxious to hear from you and know will be glad to try at any time to be of help, but certainly would not wish such a condition to get out of hand if it is possible to prevent it.

Let me hear from you as to what you decide With sincere regards and good wishes

R5. 5/12/39 [1829]‘s ltr. to EC:

Hopkinsville, Ky

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I received your letter several days ago. Thanks very much. I was feeling so badly and was uneasy about myself so I decided to take your advice and go to see the doctor. He advised me to have the X-ray pictures made so that there would be no doubt about my condition, so I did. The pictures showed that the uterus was out of place and was tilted to the right. The scars from the radium had healed and the only inflammation shown was in the wall of the uterus where I had burned it with the violet ray. I had used it too strong and had burned a small place which had caused it to bleed some. The picture showed the lower part of the colon was packed so hard it was folded over. The uterus pressing up against this as it was fallen to the back was causing much pain. This deposit of poison being so much in the pelvic region it was causing arthritis in the lower part of my back. He replaced the uterus and is treating the muscles that support it and is relieving this packed condition in the colon. I am feeling much better than when I wrote you last. The doctor said yesterday the little place I burned with the violet ray has entirely healed now. I have been so careful about my eating but I have fallen short some where in what I have eaten. I am so glad to be feeling better and am not so nervous. I am sending you some ads which I thought would be of interest to you. So sorry Miss [482] is so sick. She has been sick so much I do wish she could be real well again. I appreciate your kindness to me and will let you hear from me again.

Dear [1829]:

Very glad to have yours of the 12th and to know you are feeling some better - feel sure if you can keep pretty close to the suggestions now that you have some things straightened out, you should keep on the improve and soon be feeling a whole better.

Yes [482] has had quite a time of it - understand she is much better from this recent spell. [482] is a bit indiscreet with her self - tries to do for others with out the care for self as she should take.

Be sure and let me hear from you from time to time know we are anxious to see you get well and keep so if possible

R7. 12/14/39 [1829]‘s ltr. to EC:

Hopkinsville, Ky.

Dear Mrs. Cayce:

I have received so many nice letters from you and do appreciate all of them. I should have written before now but for one thing Christmas preparation has taken much of my time and another thing. I have not been well. About two months ago my rectum began hurting. It was a torn fissure. I try to avoid constipation but I don’t know of anything else that could have caused this. I try to eat properly too but I guess I am still ignorant on the subject of diet. I kept getting worse with this rectal trouble till I went to the chiropractor. He said the place had become infected so he had me take colonics and not have a natural movement until he said the place had healed. I did not contradict him when he said I was alright again as his treatment are so expensive I cannot continue them. But when an aching developed he said that was the rectum swollen and pressing on the nerves and that it would soon disappear. I discontinued the treatments a week ago and I still have that aching, but it was so bad now I can hardly sit down. If the chiropractor could not stop this trouble in the two months I took treatments from him I don’t think he could stop it for me to continue the treatments. I used anusol suppositories and now I am using Man Zan night and morning. But now in the last few days my bowels are so sore and my back hurts badly. This really makes me feel very uneasy as I do not know what to do further than I have done.

Mother has been getting along very nicely, although she complains quite a bit. She holds her own very well, indeed for one her age, I think.

Two week ago last Sunday we had just started to church when some one came down the hall. It was Miss [482], Mr. [1194], [421] and Mr. [1956] and Mrs. [2293], friends of theirs. My, we were so glad to see them. Miss [482] looked real well, I thought. They spent the day with us and went out to the cemetery. Are you looking forward to a big Christmas? We are expecting to spend the day with my sister and her family in Clarksville. We spent last Christmas in Florida and had a grand time with all the kin folks, but I am not able to go this year. I hope you spend a Happy Year and best wishes for a joyous and prosperous New Year. Yours Respectfully, [1829]

R8. 12/16/39 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1829]:

Dear [1829]:

Glad to have yours of the 14th - have thought of you quite often since last heard from you. Have wondered how you were coming along and how your Mother was. Please give her my regards won’t you. [1829] I believe if you would take Epsom salts sitz bath for that condition you would get real relief, take them just as hot as you can stand them. Then of course change to tap water temperature or colder - stay in the Epsom salts bath for 20 minutes or even more put a pound or more of the salts to say five gallons of water. You can take this in regular bath tub or even possibly better in a regular tub.

Hear some of the girls say [482] was going to Hopkinsville - am sure she enjoyed her stay as well as the rest of them. Did she say any thing about [481] getting married - heard it was to be by or before Christmas but haven’t heard from her direct. Gertrude - Mrs. Cayce is home now was there in Hopkinsville for three weeks or more taking treatment for her eyes - she is better, but had a awful injury to the side of her face years ago when we lived in Dayton O. and has just begun to give her trouble with eyes about 6 months ago. Hope she comes along alright with out the loss of the sight.

R9. 10/23/44 Mrs. [1829]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

No doubt you will be surprised to get this letter as it has been some time since you have heard from me. I have not been feeling at all well for several weeks. I have pains all across the lower part of my abdomen with quite a bit of discharge. The outside of the vagina seems to be swollen and irritated for some reason. I did not know whether you still gave readings or not and had forgotten your full address so I called Mrs. [23] to obtain it from her. She was not at home but her husband [1005] gave it to me and also told me that you were ill. I am so sorry and do hope you are much better at this time. I would like to know if you can give me a reading and also what would be the charges for same. I have had quite a bit of female trouble and it seems that every time I go to a M.D. my luck is to be advised that an operation about which I wrote you when you gave me my first reading. That was for a womb curetment which was performed nearly nine years ago. This was only a minor operation, as the physician spoke of it, but I do not consider any operation a minor one and have always been greatly opposed to any kind of an operation. A few years after that, which was some time after I had the reading from you, I was feeling badly again, and being uneasy about myself I went to a chiropractor. After taking X Rays he said the main trouble with me was the intestines were clogged and that I needed colonics, which I took from him, but he gave me too many and they were to severe, as a result of which there was a torn fissure in the rectum, which could be cured only with another slight operation, from which I am now fully recovered. I had been feeling unusually well until this trouble started, and that has me plenty worried. I have had to do so much hard work in the last few years I am sure that has been very much against me.

Since I wrote you last there has come a very great tragedy in my life. Without even hinting at such a thing, My husband, […], left me about three years ago. Only until a few weeks ago did I even know where he was. He phoned me from his place of business one morning and told me he was going out in the country to his sister’s to see his father who was ill, so he would not be home for lunch. I waited for him to come home till the next afternoon and when he did not come home I was so uneasy about his father I hired a car and went out there. (I had just bought a Buick car, and had taken that with him.) When I got there and found Mr. […] not sick. I did not see […] any where so asked his sister where he was and she gently broke the news to me that he had left me. He told her that he was tired of everything and could not stand living with my dear Mother any longer. He said I would never know where he went. He later sent me a short letter saying he was sorry to have to take my new car but he needed it worse than I did as he had to travel long distances and I would not need to be going any where. His leaving me was such a terrible shock to me that I can never be the same person that I was any more. We had been married for twenty seven years and were known to all our friends as the ideal married couple and I too thought the same thing, as we never quarrelled and I always thought our home life was pleasant and congenial. Of course we were in our mother’s home as she was blind and it was necessary for someone to be with her and it was decided among her children that I should be the one to stand by her as we were already living here in town and the other children had their homes elsewhere. So I am still with my mother and will be here just as long as she lives to do all I can for her as I have done in years gone by unless I am taken before she is. The house is a large one and it is impossible to get help with your work any more, so that is why it has been so hard on me physically in the last few years.

Then too, Mother’s health of course is very poor and she requires constant care. She suffers with her head all the time which is on account of this trouble with her eyes. She just celebrated her eighty seventh birthday a few days ago. She and Uncle […] who lives in Miami, the oldest and the youngest of the family are the only two of the family still living. She is so dear to me, I can’t see how anyone could feel anything else but the very best toward her. But I have gotten too interested in my own affairs and already made my letter too long entirely so will close by again saying I hope you are much better at this time and let me know about the reading.
