GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the developments for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions she submits, as I ask them:
-
EC: (In going back over years from present - ” - ‘35 - a new adventure for the entity - ‘34 - ‘30 - period of restlessness - ‘28 - ‘21 - an opening of an experience - ‘19 - 1900 - another change - ‘79 - an illness - ” etc., on back to birth date.)
-
Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1837].
-
A beautiful record - all white, with knowledge; needing then those suggestions, those implications that may assist in using this experience for the application of that which has been attained here.
-
Hence the interpretations as we are choosing from those records here are with the desire and purpose to make the experience one in which the soul-entity may be aroused to that consciousness, - a little here, a little there; and ye are making those influences in which those about you are better for your having been in their midst.
-
To give the interpretation of the life measure through the material experiences, while from the judgments of the present would not always be called a bed of roses, yet the lotus would be a symbol of the entity as it - through the muck or mire of distraught things and conditions - raises itself IN BEAUTY and gives within its cup the full measure of beauty as may bring its meanings to the experience of all who come within the realm of its activity, or who behold or come within the scope of its vision.
-
So in the experiences of the entity, but irrespective of what the entity has done about the innate urges, these we find latent and manifested in the activities of this individual entity:
-
A seeker for, rather than after, knowledge.
-
One to whom all the mysteries of nature, of life, of associations, bring an attunement to spiritual things.
-
One that innately finds the beautiful things in music, in art, in poetry, in those things that depict not the mere human emotions that partake of materiality, but those that arouse rather the thought, the desire of knowledge as to the relationships of the soul to the universal consciousness.
-
Hence the lights, - the noise yet not a noise, that often comes into the innate and manifested consciousness of the entity, - partaking of those very realms indicated by the beauty of the lotus flower itself.
-
As to the astrological aspects, - these, as we judge them, are rather from the realms of activity of the entity during those interims between the material or earthly sojourns; and come in Venus, the Sun, Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn.
-
All of these bring the beauty as indicated in Venus, the changes as indicated in Saturn, the extremes as indicated from Uranus.
-
Hence we find the greater need of application from the Jupiterian indication, - and these are before the entity, - and should begin within the present cycle of this material sojourn.
-
For it is in the application of knowledge that there is growth within or the satisfaction of the material forces. This the entity finds in its awareness, - that the influence of spiritual forces without - as the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit - are one; that thy body, thy mind, thy soul are one. If there is the lack of the awareness of either, there comes those periods when doubts and fears arise, - from the astrological as well as material sojourns, - to bring the extremes as material manifestations into the experience of the entity.
-
Hence, think on these things.
-
“As ye would that men should do to thee, do ye even so to them” is not merely rote, not merely a saying, but is a universal law, a universal consciousness. For it brings that which is the helpmeet, “Whatsoever ye sow, that shall ye also reap.”
-
For ye ARE in the present that which is the result of thy application OF body, mind, soul in relationships to that which is ever creative in the experience of the soul.
-
For growth comes in the spiritual realm as the pattern in the material realm evolves within itself through the use or the application of constructive influences in the experience of the entity.
-
As to the appearances in the earth, - these we find quite varied. Not all are given, but those that - as we find - have an influence in the present experience of the entity.
-
Before this we find the entity was in the English land, during that period when there were changes being wrought by the activity, thought and purpose among men for the COMBINED judgment of others as respecting the moral or penal codes of the land.
-
We find the entity was closely associated with that entity called by many Alfred the Great.
-
There we find the entity was as a material manifestation of that intent or purpose of that entity’s mode or manner of giving expression to democracy, or freedom of activity and of speech.
-
Hence we find innate within the present experience of this entity the ability to be a good listener; and the ability to make a parallel of such as may be gathered from the experiences of others in the application of self, - as in relationships to conditions or experiences.
-
And life AND all of its ramifications STILL remains the great wonderment to the entity, as it did in that experience - as Garcia.
-
In the applying of self in the present as to its abilities, as gained from that sojourn, - we find the abilities as a writer of those that have been or are the experiences of others as well as of self in the relationships to the emotional forces of body, mind and soul.
-
And in the application of same, - while there should be the differentiations in the experiences, their application must come as a unity of influence, - as is that impelling force which is the spirit of truth in the lives of all.
-
Before that we find the entity was in the Persian land, during those periods when there was being builded ‘the city in the hills and the plains.’
-
The entity was among those Grecians who came into the land for the purposes (of those who SENT them) to undermine the activities.
-
And the entity became rather imbued with the ideals of the teacher Uhjltd in those experiences; and became what would be termed in the present as a soothsayer, or an interpreter of the signs of the sun, the moon, the stars, - as well as of the effects of these upon the human relationships in the material plane.
-
And even today, if the entity will sit upon the sands - in ANY place - and but mark upon same, there will come those innate experiences of those days and nights, those seasons and those changes as wrought by those peoples, and the experiences of the entity in aiding those of many lands, those of many climes and those of many realms of activity in that sojourn - for their SPIRITUAL as well as MENTAL welfare.
-
Spiritual in this sense is applying to the growth of the entity; the mental as to the peace and harmony that is sought by each and every soul.
-
Hence to the entity in the present, - the star, the crescent - as combined with the vegetation - are as modes or means of giving expressions to thought and feelings in its relationships to others.
-
WRITE, then, as of these things, - in such measures and manners as to bring to the consciousness of others the needs, the necessities of application of self to that which is the claim of innate belief. But know in WHOM ye have believed, and know that He is able to keep that committed unto Him against any experience that may arise in thy relationships to thy fellow man or thy desire - for the knowledge or for companionship or associations of spiritual realms.
-
Take hold also upon that ye find from that experience in the emotions created by odors of certain things that are of the earth, - in the realm of emotion.
-
Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, in that period when there were the preparations for the peoples of another land entering, - or the days when Pharaoh of that period was aroused to activity by the voice of Joseph, the wanderer in that realm.
-
There we find the entity was among the daughters of that Pharaoh, - in the name Kotapet.
-
In the experience the entity gained much through not only the mental application of those tenets of that messenger who came to save, as it were, a people as well as himself, but - as that entity was the messenger of the living God among those in a disturbed world - the entity caught that vision of the universal love as might be exemplified in the relationships of a people, of a nation, - and not as in self-indulgence or self-aggrandizement for the passing appetites, or for those things that made for the laudation or the enslavement of any that material blessings might be in the experience of a few.
-
Hence we find again the entity giving of self in giving the expressions of mercy and grace among a people disturbed by those activities which had been as of a race consciousness in that sojourn.
-
In the present from the experiences in that sojourn, then, we find the great abilities in giving in word, in messages - that may be a part of the mental consciousness of the many - those things that will bring universal peace, universal love within the hearts and the realms of those who may take heed by the mental experience of this entity.
-
Before that we find the entity was in that called the Egyptian land, during those periods when there were the activities among those peoples in the separating of the individuals who sought to prepare themselves in body and in mind for a service unto their fellow man as a whole.
-
There the entity aided through those activities in the Temple of Sacrifice, for the cleansing of the bodies of the many from appendages that hindered or took hold upon those things which had been a part of the old disturbances among men.
-
There we find the entity was in the name Ar-rah-ar-n, - and in the experience gained, - though its period of activity was extended over the various experiences of the turmoils, as well as the regenerating of the peoples through the tenets from the Atlanteans as well as the tenets of the Priest in the experience.
-
All came for their application under the directing of the entity in that sojourn, - in the activities among that people.
-
As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, and that to which it may attain, and how:
-
As has been indicated, as may be drawn as conclusions from the experiences of the entity in its sojourns in the earth, as well as the realms of the astrological aspects:
-
Knowledge has been and is a part of the entity, INNATELY and manifestedly.
-
NOW there must be the application of same, - in words, in messages, in such a manner as to bring to the consciousness of others the NEEDS and the means of applying same in their own experience.
-
For “Inasmuch as ye do it unto the least of thy brethren, ye do it unto thy Maker.”
-
Study, then, to show thyself approved unto GOD; a workman not ashamed, but rightly dividing the words of truth, and keeping self unspotted from those things that would belie thine own conscious effort.
-
For in such a manner may ye bring to self the constant springing anew in the hearts and souls of the MANY, that beauty, that whiteness, that cleansing which is exemplified in the lotus flower.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is my work for the rest of this life? (A) WRITE!
-
(Q) Should I write a book or lecture? (A) Write MANY books, MANY pamphlets, MANY lectures. Writing is greater in this experience for the entity, though lecturing is a manner of the personal contact for that written to be brought the closer home.
-
(Q) Should I work in political groups to save our country? (A) Here, - as the entity may have experienced, may have drawn from that given - or should be able to draw from those experiences here shown - the entity has been a part of such; or rather such experiences have been a part of the entity. Yet these applied oft tend to make for sides or divisions to be drawn, - and these can BEST be shown by the application of that “I Am My Brother’s Keeper.”
Hence not so much of material application in political forces or fights, but as a more UNIVERSAL consciousness of that of peace and harmony as may be drawn from that which is the impelling force of ANY or ALL political factions.
-
(Q) Just which groups and how should I go about it? (A) As indicated, rather with that as may be a part of ANY or ALL - but NO factional fight.
-
(Q) Is it indicated what my son [2167] will achieve? (A) This may be best drawn by a paralleling of the application of that entity in HIS application of a universal consciousness.
But as we find, SELF has aided, it may again COUNSEL - but NOT impose any consciousness upon the son.
- (Q) How can I best promote my son’s career? (A) As just indicated, by counseling with.
Let this be thy watchword, - yea, let it be thy prayer - with the knowledge, the understanding thou hast:
LORD, HELP ME, DIRECT ME IN CHOOSING MY WORDS, MY ACTIVITIES BEFORE MY FELLOW MEN. MAY I CHOOSE THAT WHICH MAY NOT ATTEMPT TO JUSTIFY TRUTH OR RIGHTEOUSNESS, BUT RATHER SO LIVE MY OWN LIFE, SPEAK THY COUNSEL IN SUCH A MANNER AS TO GLORIFY THEE AMONG MY FELLOW MEN!
- We are through for the present.

Friday
Mrs. [1837] Conn.
My dear Mr. Cayce, - Last night I finished reading “There is a River,” and I hasten to tell you that, reading of your wonderful life of service and integrity, is, and must ever be, an inspiration to anyone, believers or skeptics. The ring of sincerity is in every utterance, and I congratulate you that you found a sympathetic, understanding biographer, with so fine a literary style. Mr. Sugrue has done a great piece of writing, worthy of a rare subject. I am already an unsolicited press agent, and since my daughter-in-law wanted to give me a copy of the book which she enjoyed so much, I have bought copies to LEND to those who cannot afford to buy one. If your true story doesn’t break through to concrete minds of some over-stuffed academicians, clinging rigidly to their prejudices and antiquated teachings, - they will prove [?] the recipe for perpetual ignorance - to be satisfied with what they are, and contented with what they know. I have been hammering at skeptics so many years, I find many are hopeless. Had they lived in the days of Jesus, they would have put doubting Thomas in the shade. But as Oliver Wendell Holmes said - “TRUTH is like a foot-ball - you can kick it around all day, and it will rise full and round at eventide.”
I wish every thinking person might read your story - It is a masterpiece.
[Re [1837]:] Now, if you have time, I should like another health reading, and will relax and tune in, when you name the time. Check is enclosed. My other reading was on March 8, 1940. [See her questions used under 1837-2 Reports.]
One more point. Yesterday, when I was selecting books to be sold at the home of a sick friend, breaking up his home, - (a Kentucky man, by-the-way - Adna Wadsworth of Maysville) I found two volumes published in 1829, “Memoirs Correspondence and Miscellaneous of Thomas Jefferson” bound in morocco, and I wondered if Miss [288]‘s brother [391] would like to keep them for the son [1208].
I was so intrigued when you told me about him and I met the boy. These volumes are doubtless rare and long out of print. In one is a facsimile of the original draft of the Declaration of Independence. A friend whom I took to see all the books, wanted these volumes (for a pittance) but he agreed with me that they might have a real value for either a collector or some one especially interested in Jefferson. So I thought of the little [1208] boy and your reading for him at birth, and asked Mr. Wadsworth to hold them till I could hear form you. In the meantime I am writing to a dealer in rare books, to learn their value.
Another year, I should like to attend the Congress at Virginia Beach, and also would like to know when you will be in N.Y. Wishing you all possible joy, peace, and satisfaction in your noble work, and with remembrances to Mrs. Cayce and Hugh Lynn, also Gladys, I am
Sincerely, [1837]
R9. 7/28/43 EC’s letter to [1837]:
Mrs. [1837] …, Conn.
Dear Mrs. [1837]
Thank you very much for yours of the twenty-third. I am glad indeed to know that you have liked “There Is A River” and the manner in which Mr. Sugrue has presented it. We are being flooded with requests. I would like to make your appointment for your reading right away, but the first possible chance is the afternoon of February 28. I realize that this may be entirely out of the question and you will be ready for your second or third reading by that time, but it is the best we can do at this time, so I am making note of it and you can let me know what you wish to do. Yes, I would very much like to get the volumes on Thomas Jefferson for Miss [288] and if it is possible, I would be very glad to pay you for these. Let me know about them and I will be glad to send you the money. If you run across any books that would be good for our library, do not hesitate to let us know about them, for we will be glad to have them.
Thanking you and hoping that you will let us know about reserving this time that is set.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R10. 8/1/43 My dear Mr. Cayce, - Well, you certainly have the world beating a path to your door! It’s time for recognition in a big way, and I rejoice that integrity is at last rewarded. It is strange that the first free day for my reading should be Feb. 28th when my birthday is Feb. 29th. Of course, keep the date for me, and if others change their appointments, move me up if possible - I’ll let you know where I am, probably in Florida. Since I don’t wish my bank book unbalanced for seven months, please return my check, and I’ll send another when the reading is arranged.
I went early today to get the four books of Jefferson from Mr. Wadsworth. He said to tell you that they were owned by Judge E. C. Phister of Maysville, whose son, Judge Thomas Phister married his sister Lucy. She died recently, leaving her brother alone & sick. He is disposing of all his belongings, and is willing to accept whatever people offer for his books and furnishings. He would like to give everything away, but he really needs money, as he cannot work. I am packing the volumes to mail to you Monday, and I’m sure the little [1208] boy will prize them when he is older. It seems a link - that they came from your Kentucky. Mr. Wadswarth has been many times in Hopkinsville. So, if you think they are worth five dollars or so, just make a check to Adna Wadsworth and I’ll take it to him. We try to see him every day or two. You must not overwork now, with so many clamoring for your help. Best wishes -
Sincerely - Mrs. [1837]
P.S. My [216], for whom you read, is the youngest officer on the Faculty of … Tactical School, N.J. He has 3 lovely daughters & his wife [2296] sent me, “There is a River.” She loved it.
R11. 8/13/43 EC’s letter to [1837]:
Mrs. [1837]
Dear Mrs. [1837]
Thank you very much for yours of the second. We will be glad to make an advance in the appointment from the 28th of February if it is at all possible. A few days before that time, give us the address at which you will be, and any special questions you would like to have asked at that time, and I am returning the check herewith.
I want to thank you also for the books. I am including $5 in the check to you to be handed to the people for these books if that is satisfactory.
Thanking you and hoping indeed to be of a real service.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
P.S. I am glad to hear that your son is doing so nicely. Both of our boys, as you know, are in the Army. One, is overseas and Hugh Lynn is in Ft. Meade, Md.
