This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of March, 1939, in accordance with request made by the husband - Mr. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended and sponsored by Mr. [257].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions which may be submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. Now as we find, there are rather the complications of disturbances which arise mainly from a deflection in the activity of the glandular system.

4. With the administrations which have been made, this has varied in its intensity and the effect as has been produced upon various organisms, - and especially those inclinations in the present to the locomotory system and the mental attitudes are evidences of the disturbing forces.

5. As we find, there is shown the nature or manner of disturbance from the blood supply and its elements or constituents of same, as well as in the nerve reflexes.

6. The organic disturbances are the result or effects, just as the disturbances to the locomotory forces.

7. Then, in making administrations for this body, we find that there would first be the establishing of those activities within the system in which there may be brought a better coordination between the nervous systems of the body, as well as to the assimilating and digestive forces of the body.

8. Then as there is gradually the bringing of the body to those conditions or positions where there may be some stability, there may then be the building for the greater relief.

9. First, then, without other than the diet and the gentle or regular massages for the quieting of the body:

10. We would use the low electrical forces from the Wet Cell Appliance that would carry both Gold AND Atomidine into the system; one used one day, the other the next. The attachments would be made in this manner:

11. One day, the smaller or copper plate would be attached to the 4th lumbar, while the larger nickel plate through which the Gold Solution passes (in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold to each ounce of Distilled Water) - would be attached to the umbilicus and lacteal duct plexus.

12. The next day, the smaller or copper plate would be attached to the 9th dorsal, while the larger nickel plate - through which the Atomidine Solution passes (commercial strength) - would be attached to the umbilicus and lacteal duct plexus.

13. Use different bottles for the Solutions, of course - using five to six ounces of the Solutions.

14. Continue alternating the attachments in this manner, you see; each Solution being used every other day, and attached as indicated.

15. Each of these would be given for at least thirty to forty minutes on the days applied.

16. Every thirty days recharge the Appliance. Every fifteen days change the Solutions of the Gold and the Atomidine.

17. It would be well that these attachments be made just before ready for retirement of evening or night; and that a massage or rub be given following same, - over those portions of the limbs and the locomotories that are being affected, as well as the cerebrospinal system. It would be well for such a gentle massage to be given with an equal combination of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil, - just what the body will absorb, and then sponged off. But take at least thirty minutes to give the massage, you see; over the affected portions of the limbs as well as the cerebrospinal system.

18. As to the diet, - no fried foods. Not a great quantity of meats.

19. The eliminations would be aided by especially fresh fruit, or raw vegetable juices, - rather than cathartics or other eliminants.

20. After the Appliance has been used in the manner indicated for the three or four charges (that is, three or four months), with the diet and massage followed with same as indicated, we would then give further instructions.

21. Do these things, as we find, - and we will get the better forces established through which greater aid may be had for the bodily forces.

R1. 3/7/39 [1838]‘s Husband’s letter to EC:

Dear Sir:-

I have your reading…covering my wife [1838] and am truly grateful to you for same and suggestions made. I have this to say - my wife is suffering from what is medically termed Paralysis Agitan [paralysis agitans; Parkinson’s disease; shaking palsy] - for which my Doctors say there is no cure known to medical science. Her treatments are as follows. Three times a week she has electrical short wave treatments on her foot, her leg her spine (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) twice a week (Monday P.M. and Friday P.M.). She has light massage or muscle manipulation of the leg and foot.

This treatment seems to coincide with your reading & suggestion. She has been taking the electrical treatments for about 3 months - the massage for two weeks - all of which apparently have not helped her. May I ask if the work we are doing is in accord with you? Or if you can help me further. She has been an active woman all her life - we have two married daughters whom we both enjoy being with - but her inability to get around without much effort & pain has deprived her of this great pleasure.

May I have some further suggestion from you. Thanking you in advance for this courtesy.

R2. 3/8/39 [257]‘s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Judge:

The reading came for [1838] to-day. I have never heard such an enthusiastic response for anybody as there was on this reading. He thought that I might have told you something but since I did not, it was even more wonderful for him. The strange thing is that Dr. Alfred Mayer [Subsequent correspondence refers to him as Albert Mayer, M.D.], who was [325]‘s mother’s doctor and who said she would not live for five days, is his doctor [see 325-32].

I do not know the name of the masseur [Jeiter - see subsequent correspondence] but I believe if you advise him to use your battery instead of the other electrical treatment, or if the reading would say to use same when giving the massage, it would be very simple as I would go to the doctor and work it out. I am not speaking of Dr. Mayer but the man who gives the massages. I can, of course, talk to Dr. Mayer if the Reading said so. Mr. […] told me that he had written you a long letter giving you all of the facts of the case. Please write me what you wish me to do.

R3. 3/10/39 EC’s ltr. to [257]: ”…Yes had letter from Mr. […]. Have written him suggesting that he give the suggestions in the reading a try [for his wife, [1838]] - believe he will get real results if he will use the appliance

Dear Mr. […]:

Have yours regarding your wife and the suggestions made in the reading - of course Mr. […] the suggestion for the appliance given in the reading might give your wife just that as needed - for this works on the theory that the vibrations of the metal will add to the activity of glands and the staymen [stamina?] in nerve energy as is the deficiency in a case of one with such a disturbance as you say the Dr. says Mrs. [1838] has - would not like to interfere in any way with the Dr., but believe it would be worth trying the suggestion given.

R5. 3/17/39 (Saturday) [1838]‘s Husband’s letter to EC:

Dear Sir:

Last evening my good friend [257] came to my home & we read the reading you sent me March 6th to my wife. This was the first she knew of the fact that I had asked you to help me diagnose and suggest a treatment. She was thrilled and so overcome with even a prospect of assistance that she cried on [257]‘s shoulder.

We are now very anxious to get started. At [257]‘s suggestion I am writing to inquire if you know of a wet cell battery in New York that I can either borrow or rent & thus save me the expense of buying one. If not could I trouble you to order one for me to be sent to my home …, New York City.

Immediately upon receipt of equipment we will start treatment.

Incidentally, David Kahn mentioned you are a Kentuckian. My wife was born in Louisville, Ky. - comes from an old family there - Her father’s name was […]. Thought you might recall them.

Any trouble to which you are put is greatly appreciated by my wife and I.

R6. 3/20/39 EC’s letter to [1838]‘s Husband:

Dear Mr. […]:

Thanks for yours of the 17th - am glad to know that Mrs. [1838] will cooperate with you as to the suggested application - you had better write the Health Home Remedies Co. - Box 273 Norfolk, Va. for the appliance - I do not know of any one in N.Y. that has one that is not using same. This company attends to the appliances, and can give you the data on same better than I.

Am sure it did you good to see that Mrs. [1838] found something in her talk with Mr. [257] that brought new hope to her - according to her Faith so be it unto her. Sincerely hope you will be able to get started on the complete suggestions real soon - do them all - no more no less. And feel sure like the many hundreds through the years you will get results.

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

Am just in receipt of invoice from Health Home Corp. that the wet battery has been shipped. This will be put into operation according to your instructions immediately upon it’s arrival.

Enclosed find two copies of prescriptions - these are pills which Mrs. [1838] has taken and the Doctor feels she should continue. Yet I want your instructions, please. If she should discontinue pills - when she starts battery treatment

• or not - just as you say - will you please notify me - at my residence …, New York City, N.Y.

Thanking you in advance and regretting the necessity of annoying you so much - but it all means so much to both Mr. [1838] & me - & we want to do everything your way.

R8. 3/29/39 [257]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…I was at the [1839] home since 4 P.M. - …it is 9:30…

She is a lovely person - looks about [903]‘s age and is her size and build - and does she pray and worship you!

The battery arrived - had only one bottle for the mixture - so I had to go out looking for it and found it.

Mr. Jaiter [Jeiter - see subsequent correspondence from Mrs. […] [1838]‘s husband] is about 35 - fine, handsome boy, his dad […] for 45 years experimented in batteries and your type of treatment - gives a fine massage - understands batteries - he will start at 3 tomorrow, use battery 40 minutes and 40 minutes massage - he is going to follow every detail - he is so afraid he might not follow your directions - he says your description is perfect - the places to use the anodes perfect. He wants to make daily notes and write you in 8 days and check up on ‘himself’ to see if he is o.k. He says Dr. Mayer said not a chance for her and could do nothing - he said the reading would not hurt or help - and advised to try it. Mrs. [1839] said ‘Dr. you tried for 16 months and I am worse - so I see no reason why I shouldn’t follow Mr. Cayce.’ He is the same little fellow who told mother in ‘29 she could live 5 days… [1839]‘s husband almost cried today when he spoke of you and your friendship…”

R9. 3/31/39 EC’s letter to [1838]‘s Husband:

Dear Mr. […]:

Yours of the 27th to hand - should have answered sooner but was abed myself yesterday - feel some better today - note what you have to say about the pills - as you begin the use of the appliance think you will find you can gradually discontinue the use of the pills - feel it would be best to do it that way Mr. […] - when you begin the appliance after first day say leave off one dose of pills see how the reaction is if OK then leave off another the next day and so on until she is not using any.

R10. 4/7/39 (Friday) [1838]‘s Husband’s letter to EC:

Mr. E. Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Judge Cayce:-

Tho’ you may not know it, I felt a certain thrill, in having the unexpected pleasure of speaking to you on the telephone this afternoon. Mrs. [1838] & I are grateful for your advice & suggested treatment which we are following to the letter. We are fortunate in having the services of Mr. Jeiter who is as interested as we are & is anxious to carry out all instructions.

We have amassed quite a few questions which feel will be helpful to all concerned. They have been made after 8 days of treatment. We are not impatient - but want to be sure we are carrying out the instructions of the first reading.

Therefore Mr. Cayce if a reading can be arranged at a very early date to go over the enclosed questions we will be very grateful & appreciative.

Please send a copy of the reading to Mr. [257] and send the reading to me at my office c/o …, N.J.

Mr. Jeiter is with Mrs. [1838] at our residence…every afternoon from 2 till 4.

R13. 4/12/39 Mr. [257]‘s letter: Dr. Mayer was in to see Mrs. [1838] on Sun., just to see her on a social visit. He told her after seeing the battery and the reading to follow it 100% and to be very, very patient, because even if it was all you said it was, it would take time to accomplish results. Mr. […] was very pleased since the doctor and Mr. Jeiter are cooperating. Mr. Jeiter remained in the house from 2-5 o’clock to be sure he was present while you were giving the reading [See 1838-2].
