This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of May, 1939, in accordance with request made by the physician - Dr. Frank Dobbins, through Associate Membership of Mrs. [1886] in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions which may be submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. As we find, there is a complication of disturbances, which involve the incoordination between the activity of the superficial and deeper circulation, with ossification in the extremities; so that, as these continue, and the tissue in structural body becomes involved, this will cause separation of body and mind and soul.

4. As to the manners or means of preventing this condition, as we find:

5. We would apply hot stupes of Atomidine; not iodine - for while these basically are the same, their reactions under heat AND wet heat are entirely different. Not sufficient, of course, to blister, but sufficient length of time to relax and allow some circulation through the affected portions on the body and limbs and locomotories. As combined with the activity of the pulmonary circulation, this will aid same.

6. Then there needs be better eliminations.

7. These as we find offer relief and an extenuation of the activities, if these applications would be made; combined, of course, with the assisting of the circulatory system through the relaxing of those areas about not only the cardiac reactions but the setting up of better activities through the lumbar and the abdominal areas.

8. Do that.

10. (Q) What proportions of Atomidine for the stupes? (A) A tablespoon in a quart of water.

11. (Q) Where applied? (A) As indicated, on affected and stiffened or stiffening areas. These applications would be to the lumbar extremities, pulmonary extremities, - that is, from the pulmonary center to the extremities, and the arms and head, see? all of these areas where there is the greater affection and infection between those circulatory forces.

12. We are through for the present.

Dear Mr Cayce:

Thanks a lot for the reading on Mrs. [1886].

Thru my point of view the reading isn’t too clear and I wonder with out giving you any more information in the case, other than telling there is nothing wrong so far as we can tell with the extremities, if you could interpret the reading a bit more clearly.

Just what do you take it is meant by the “separation of body and mind and soul”.

Do you think that another reading would give us any more information on her? If you think so I would like another one. I have promised that nothing would be disclosed to you outside of the request for the reading. I do this against my better judgement but as I have given the promise I feel I must keep it. If you think another reading would be more satisfactory let me know & I will jot down a few questions I would like to have answered.

I take it you want me to speak Fr. June 16th - is that correct? If so I shall probably take the train Fri. & come back Sat. …[handwriting illegible].

R2. 5/20/39 EC’s letter to Dr. Dobbins:

Dear Dr. Dobbins;-

Thank you for yours of the 18th - my experience Dr. has been that there is something about the person for whom the reading is for wishing the reading - or some one mentally and physically responsible for them that clarifies the reading - and have often wondered if I did myself or the work justice in undertaking it in any other way. Don’t like to have any one feel that I wish to make set formulas - but experience seems to be the best teacher don’t mean to say there are never any failures even when the person wishing the reading asks for it - it is always their attitude - if it is only for curiosity have never known one to be right or satisfactory - yet have known many where the body knew nothing of the reading and the Dr. or person seeking was very earnest, wonderful results have been gotten.

Will be glad to undertake another reading - or answer questions for it will not give another full reading - have a period on the morning of the 26th 10.30 to 11.30 E.S.T. when we have check reading if you will send me the Questions will be glad to try it then. Haven’t any more periods open until after the Congress except for emergency - will be glad to put in Mrs. Dobbins in one of these periods if you wish - is hers a Physical - be sure and let me know am giving her the period on Thursday morning the 8th of June 10.30 to 11.30 E.S.T. find it is best of the individual will give the period to prayer or thought on the purpose of the reading. Be sure and let me know if the time is convenient for her and what type reading she wishes.

Was very much in hopes that you and she could come to the Congress. Yes wish you to speak on the evening of the 16th - if you have to come by train can leave there late in evening of the 15th and be here next morning - all meetings are at the Beach - so you will see something of our records if you wish.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Perhaps I didn’t make myself clear in the letter I wrote you the other day so I will try to clarify my remarks.

This lady that we had the reading for does not realize the seriousness of her condition & we do not wish to alarm her by telling her. The son is very much concerned about her condition but yet is very skeptical about the whole thing so much so that he doesn’t want me to tell you anything about the condition. If this isn’t fair to you don’t hesitate to say so. I can assure you that the reading is not had out of idle curiosity.

We would like the following questions answered:

1. What is the prognosis in this case?
2. What was meant in previous reading by the separation of the body, and mind, and soul?
3. The 26th would be very good.

P.S. I have just been in contact with [[…], Mrs. [1886]‘s son] & have quoted from your letter. He said that he would tell his mother about the reading and that we would all set aside that period and try to help all we can in getting something.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I would like to have you give me a reading on Mrs. [1886]. She was born March 14, 1881. Her address is … St., …, N.J. If possible I would like a diagnosis, prognosis and method of treatment, probable span of life or life expectancy.

This case will be in the nature of a test as it is the mother of a physician. We would like to have this reading as soon as possible.

Dear Dr. Dobbins;-

Yours of the 4th just received - would like to be of help if possible - the first open period tho Dr. is afternoon of the 16th - would that be too late - possibly well imagine the entire month is taken from our recent visit to N.Y.

Is required also by law that we have a blank filled out am enclosing one - so if that time will not be too late - let me have this filled out before the time for the reading - and does the patient know the reading is to be taken.
