GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
Now as we find, conditions are improved in some directions since last we had the body here; that is, there is better ability for resistances. However, more acute conditions have arisen with the disturbance in the gall duct area.
-
This upsets the system, causing weaknesses, indigestion, more of gas, lack of proper eliminations, and the general irritation and debilitation all over, - or the feelings of same.
-
As we find now, during this next period, or for a while, we would leave off the osteopathic adjustments.
-
And twice a week, for at least two weeks, we would have the general hydrotherapy treatments as would be given at Reilly’s. First there would be the cabinet bath, you see, with the temperature (dry heat) raised not too much but just sufficient to start the perspiration. Then have the thorough massage; then a thorough colonic irrigation. Afterwards we would have the sitz bath and the thorough rubdown with pine oil; or pine oil would be in the water when the bath is given, and than a thorough rubdown, followed by a little of alcohol or the like.
-
After two weeks, these may be made farther apart, - that is, a week apart, see? But as long as there is the show of mucous, and the effects of the discharges shown in the colonics, we would keep these up.
-
But for one hour each evening for three days preceding each of the first four hydrotherapy treatments, we would apply - at home - the heavy Castor Oil Packs over the liver and gall duct and the whole of the right side. Use at least three thicknesses of flannel, saturated in the oil or wrung out (lightly) of the oil, not merely the oil poured on. Apply as warm as the body can well stand, and then the electric pad or heat applied; not so hot as to burn or cause disturbance, of course, but this kept each evening for an hour - preferably an hour and a half - for at least three days. Then have the first general hydrotherapy treatment in the manner indicated; then have three more evenings of applying the Packs, then another hydrotherapy treatment, and so on until at least four of the treatments have been given. Then, when these are made a week apart, the Packs would be used only ONE evening before the massage and colonic would be taken, see?
-
After a period of four or five weeks, we would then have the GENERAL osteopathic treatments again.
-
As to the diet, - keep away from too much sweets, of course.
-
Do not be OVERACTIVE, - but it is not necessary that the body give way entirely to non-activity - unless it is during the first week or two weeks of these applications indicated to relieve the acute conditions in the gall duct area.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes uncomfortableness at times in right testicle? (A) This is rather a sympathetic condition, than an acute condition. With the massages and the some attention given to the prostate, it will be found that this will disappear. This is from pressures, nerve pressures from the general irritation in the gall duct area.
-
(Q) Are there gall stones? (A) As the irritation indicates, there is some sand and gravel and some stones that will pass, if there is the use of these applications outlined.
-
(Q) Is my continued ill health due to any organic trouble? (A) Well, this is organic enough, and troublesome enough! but if these suggestions will be adhered to, we should relieve these conditions!
-
(Q) What is reason for my waking up in the night? (A) Nervousness from conditions indicated. Do as we have outlined here, if we would bring the better conditions for this body.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 5/17/40 Miss [1934]‘s [Mrs. [1841]‘s daughter’s] letter: “Perhaps you will be interested in hearing about our friend Mr. [1898] of …, N.Y. After having that “check” reading he took the prescribed treatments at Reilly’s in N.Y. They seemed to be very strenuous for him and in fact made him feel much worse. Since then he has had several very bad spells and one night last week he sat up all night as he was afraid that he was dying. The poor man has just become desperate and didn’t know what to do. Last night a local doctor took him to Dobbs Ferry Hospital [Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.] for observation and will keep him there for two weeks. He seems to think that he lacks sugar in his system and plans to give him insulin. Mother [1841], Mrs. [1955] and I are so upset over him and don’t know what to do. Could you suggest anything to do? If you could write to him I think that it would cheer him up a great deal.”
R2. 5/24/40 EC’s letter to [1898]:
Dear Mr. [1898]
Learn from Miss [1934] that you have not been getting along so well. Wonder if we can help - would be very glad to have a line from you and if you feel we might would be very glad to try.
Let us hear from you
With every good wish
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R3. 7/25/40 Miss [1934]‘s letter: “Our friend [1898] finally took a three months leave of absence from his office and he and Mrs. [1955] have been resting at Cape Cod for the past month. They say that they both feel wonderful and are as brown as berries. They’ve been swimming and bicycling every day. [1898] plans to go back to work this week. I am so glad that he is on the road to recovery. He is very grateful to you.”
R4. 2/4/41 Miss [1934]‘s letter: “[1898] is feeling very much better and has been taking Adiron right along. Apparently most of [1898]‘s trouble is mental, and I often think that [his wife, [1995]‘s] is too. They both have gotten into a terrible ‘rut’ and think entirely too much about themselves. This may sound rather severe but I was in that frame of mind myself once and it was pretty hard to shake myself out of the groove that I was in.”
