Protestant) This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home in Pinewood on Lake Drive, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of April, 1932, in accordance with request made by the self, Miss [1922], through her friend Miss [369].

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity, [1922], and those relations with the universe and universal forces, as are latent and manifested in the personalities of the present entity.

2. In entering astrologically, we find there are influences in Uranus, Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter.

3. As we find, there are especial influences in the present for the entity, that are as ruling forces in the present.

4. Uranus, as we find, makes especially for those influences of dissatisfaction, or wonderment, or nerve temperament in the present, as these are ruling forces through the greater part of March, April, and a portion of May. In the fifteenth to twentieth of May the changes for the entity will be for a much more satisfied condition, for Jupiter - with Venus and Mercury - will be the greater ruling force for the entity’s experience, and a greater culmination of same (as Uranus and Jupiter) in the latter portion of the present year will bring, not only those influences that have to do with the heart but also a greater peace of mind, better physical conditions in the body, and a general uplift in the mental self.

5. As indicated through Uranus, much of the occult or mystic forces are manifest in the experiences of the entity. These, as we find, have periods of more accentuation, as indicated through those periods in the present year or season - and these, we find, in the portions of the year past were nearer in the summer and the early portion of fall - and as year before, more through the winter months, or December, January and February. These, as we find, with Jupiter, affecting the activities of the entity from the early portion of October of the present year, will bring strength, stability, satisfaction, clarification in many of the mental attributes, and a contentment that has been aggravated for some periods in the experience of the entity.

6. In Mercury we find a good mental ability, yet often called by others erratic with its abilities, or its social or love affairs, yet making for - while not a stay-at-home - one that loves a home, and makes for those conditions about same that would be as a good home maker, as a home keeper; yet with many ideas of same, or the manner of conducting same, that to some would be as of extravagance in the use of self, rather than in the use of means, or of those things that make up sociability in the home.

7. Those influences in Venus make for the pleasant personality of the entity; and one that makes friends easily, yet often finds that it loses them - or apparently so - just as easily. This is from those influences (that have been often in the Uranian influence) that make for erratic activities at times, incontrollable emotions at times, uncontrollable nerve reactions at times, which make for conditions in the mind or experience of others not understanding the body - rather than that which is often builded by the entity in its own analyses of such situations or conditions in the experience.

8. In Jupiter, then, we find rather the stabilizing influence. As Jupiter for some periods back, or two years, has been without its greater influence in the earth, and as the entity has been principally under the Uranian influence, with Mercury and Venus, this has made for such periods that have at times seemed rather unbearable to the entity - and the tendency has been for the activity towards self of condemning self. These, as we find, will pass away, especially beginning after the fifteenth of the coming month, when there is greater influence in the earth’s experience of individuals born under the star, or influence, of Venus AND Jupiter, which makes for the QUIETING effect in the sign or influence of Uranus.

9. As to the abilities these have made upon the entity, with reference to the influence these have - there may be also seen that influence that wields, or makes for, those conditions in the experience of an entity, as how to meet, be combative with or in unison with, such influences. The will of an entity, and that which is set by the entity (or self) as its ideal in all situations or conditions, then, are the influences that wield the change in how planetary influences will affect, or do affect, an entity. These, then, are to be wary of - these are as the DONT’S for the entity:

10. Do not condemn self, and do not condemn others. Make for contentment by the interest that may be shown or manifest in those that are of a temperament that makes for congeniality, rather than going against - or even with - those things that are always the most pleasant. Be sure that these make for rather that association, that condition, that is in line with, in keeping with, that which has been set as the ideal - whether we speak of it in terms of the spiritual ideal, the mental ideal, the social ideal, or the activities of these in combination; but do not have ideals that conflict one with another. Let the basis of an ideal that is builded by self be rather in the spiritual life. This does not mean goody-goody, for goody-goodies go very short in these periods of experience - but rather that which is in conformity with that thou wouldst have in thine own self as respecting the ideal set in the spiritual and mental life of the entity.

11. These influences then, as seen, make for one that would be an excellent home maker or home builder, but with the abilities also to be one as of a social entertainer - either as in a secretarial position, as a companion, or as one that would train those of the younger generation for certain periods; but this should NOT be WHOLLY the life’s work - rather that as would be used to prepare self FOR the GREATER abilities in the social, in the home, or in the companionship of those that make or build for homes.

12. Then, as we will find, without that of the home making, the greater abilities would be rather as in one that would act in the capacity of the companion of, or as an INDIVIDUAL teacher in the home, or as one acting in such capacities.

13. In the appearances and the effects these have upon the PRESENT experience of the entity:

14. In the one then before this we find during that period when there were those preparations being made for those that were called Friends, who came into the land of the nativity in the present experience - or the entity was among those in that NOW known as Pennsylvania. The entity then not of its own accord accepted much of that taught or practiced by those with whom the entity chose its environ, but rather than being subject to persecutions in the lands from which the entity came. The entity gained through the experience in making for self contentment in the environ in which it found itself, for rather those that pertained to the greater spiritual insight were those that urged the entity on. In the present we find from this experience an exceptional INTUITIVE influence in the entity. This used - not being afraid of, but used - may bring for the entity a much better understanding in the spiritual life, for it IS of the CREATIVE Forces in the entity acting in the manner to make for manifestations to the present experiences of the entity. These, then, are to be USED - not abused, not afraid OF, but rather make a STUDY of such associations, such feelings that appear. If there is felt there is to be such-and-such situation, then rather than dwelling upon same make a literal note of same - and forget it! Then make the comparisons with same when this has passed, and there will be the USE of same made - rather than it making afraid. In this experience also we find, from that influence in that known as the Pennsylvania experience, the particular feeling as to the spiritual, or the church affiliations or associations, and the dislike for some particular character of rote as may be with any form of religious service. Rather is there felt innate within self that those experiences that come from such should be as a LIVING example, than as mere tenets. Then USE same IN the manner that these experiences become as stepping-stones for the understanding of, interpretation of, associations with individuals, whether of the same sex or of the opposite sex - or whether of the moral or the spiritual, or the purely MATERIAL associations; for an analysis of a body’s whys and wherefores may be easily made by the entity, and - while these produce wonderment in the present - analyzed and used as conversation, or in such conditions, will make for the USING of same and bring a great deal of contentment to the entity in the present experience.

15. In the one then before this we find in that land now known as the French, and during those periods when the Louis’s were in the position as rulers. The entity was then among those that were of the household of the rulers, and among the royalty of same. These make for those high influences that are felt, as especially regarding the character of social functions, social life, yet brings with same much of that that was lost AND builded by the entity - as Sallaen - during that experience. This also makes in the present for some of those abilities (as pertain to those influences that may be had by the entity) as a home builder, for it was anything else but a home during that experience! yet those were builded in the mental (what would be termed in the present) as castles in the air, or as those great desires - and these were builded in the warp and woof of the soul of the entity itself! Its affability; the entity’s abilities for the home making, comes some from this experience.

16. In the one then before this we find in that experience known now as the Egyptian, when there were divisions in the land, when there were the changes about those who ruled in the temple worship. Then entity was then among those peoples who followed with the priest, yet sided WITH those that were separated FROM the priest during these experiences, and made for contentions with those in power. Then entity suffered then in body and in mind, yet in the restoration and the building up of the emissaries’ activities the entity then assumed charge of the YOUNGER ones’ activity in the temple, and in the school, making same as compatible with the physical life and the moral life - as related to the tenets of those as taught during that experience. In the name Itchar. The entity gained throughout this experience, for - though suffering, and brought discontent - the replenishing and rebuilding brought much that may be builded in the present from the holding of the IDEAL that is based in the spiritual, rather than the physical, or even the mental life; yet reasoning is ever the basis of the training in the present. Listen more often to the still small voice from within.

17. In the one then before this we find in the Atlantean experience, when there were many changes being wrought by those peoples - especially soon after the first sinking or disappearing of that land. The entity was then among those peoples who aided in the exploiting of those changes between those of the fields and those of the cities. The entity, then in power, lost much through the experience, gaining only in the latter portion when it became one of those that went to the western lands for the building up of same. Hence we will find the entity is an American through and through! In this experience the entity finds much of this that makes for calls, not so much to those of cities, nor yet to the rural portions of the land - rather that as may be termed the intermediary portions, and in and about such may the greater work be accomplished by the entity in the present experience.

18. In the abilities of the entity, then, in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how:

19. As is seen, there are a twofold experience for the entity, and these begin in the present season and the present year; for within this present year there will come into the experience of the entity a mate that may be made or builded towards the home making. Or, with the decision that that which has been builded is for the greater experience in making for self that that is builded alone, rather than in that builded with another, then in the fall - or in October - there would be found those changes that may be made, as the proper associations or connections to build in that direction as the companion or secretary, or as the private tutor in those directions. These are set before the entity. These should be chosen BY the entity, USING that which has been builded thus far in the experience as stepping-stones.

20. The things to be guarded against by the entity - Do not allow self to become shut in in large cities, or places, for the health in such environs would be impaired and make for detrimental conditions for the body. Keep the mind active. Keep the body rather in a passive AND an active position, in that SPECIFIC conditions should be set for self. Do not allow these to become worrying to the body, but outline for self a program and keep it for a period, and a much more even balance, mentally, physically, will be the result. Well to heed those calls from within, that come as intuitive forces. In THIS manner may the entity build for self that which will be the BEST in the present experience.

21. Ready for questions.

22. (Q) Does it mean I should not continue teaching? (A) Not more than one more year, in the present surroundings.

23. (Q) Would it be for my best development to seek a teaching position elsewhere for the coming year? (A) The changes that will come about through the present season, as we would find, would make for a greater contentment in the present surroundings, by the associations that will be made in same.

24. (Q) Should stay at the Beach, then, for the next year? (A) As we find, those associations would be better there.

25. (Q) Should I have the same position in the same school? as at present? (A) If there is the form of the advancement (which will be presented), then this may be had. In the same POSITION, if making self CONTENT, will build much for the entity in this experience; for there will be changes through those associations and the individuals that will be met in the present season. Remember, there will be the change in especially the astronomical influences beginning, specifically, in the first portions of October of the present year.

26. (Q) Where should I spend the summer? (A) Where there have been some changes, or some possibilities of already being sent out. These will come about in their natural means, of the meeting of the man - He will be a nice fellow!

R1. Miss [1922] and her friend, Miss [369], were both thrilled with the reading. Miss [369] exclaimed over unusual detail regarding planetary influence; jokingly said she was jealous of all the good things that were coming her friend’s way. Miss [1922] herself said the reading was so very interesting, and she knew she would get more and more from it as she read it day by day.

R2. 6/20/34 See 5752-4 on automatic and inspirational writing, using samples of Miss [1922]‘s, Mrs. [267]‘s and Miss [275]‘s. Below is Miss [369]‘s description of Miss [1922]‘s ability:

Her ability to do inspirational writing was discovered unexpectedly. Up to this time she had never even heard of writing of this type. From the first attempt the writing came easily & with practically no effort, although there has never been any desire for same. Since that time, which has covered a period of two years, she has done the writing off & on at the request of individuals, but nearly always with a very antagonistic & doubtful attitude towards it, which at times becomes so strong that she feels as though she can not possibly attempt it. She wishes that this means of communication were not hers & yet on the other had, feel that since she is capable of doing inspirational writing, that she should conquer this attitude & use it for whatever purpose that it was given to her. [369]

R3. GD’s note: Following EC’s reading 5752-4, Miss [1922] and Miss [369] tapered off on the writing. It had come to be a sort of crutch for both of them. They were roommates and constant companions during the winter months, coming to depend on each other more than the ordinary; both lonely, craving companionship and marriage. Perhaps Miss [1922] would have married except for the fact that Miss [369] was so lonely and unhappy that Miss [1922] could not bring herself to make dates; she did not want to make her suffer by knowing that her friend was being “fulfilled” while she wasn’t.

R4. 7/22/35 [1922]‘s letter to [288]:

…, Virginia

Dear [288]:

I know you stay terribly busy, but I’m asking something of you. It is this, from the general trend of [369]‘s letters she seems to be discouraged and very much upset. Things seem to have lost their meaning for her, and as you know when we once get in that frame of mind, it is difficult to get one’s self, together again.

I thought perhaps you could arrange to see more of her, and in that way she would be less alone. Do you ride the bicycle now? Please get it when ever you like. I hope the Congress was enjoyable. Guess I’ll never get to be present. Know all the meetings kept you very busy.

I wouldn’t want [369] to know, I did this, but you have helped her so often, you seemed naturally the person to ask.

Thank you so much, and do write me sometime, when you are not too busy.

R5. 8/9/37 [1922]‘s letter to [288]:

Sunday afternoon.

Dear [288]:

Have thought often about you during the summer.

[369] just wrote me that she is contemplating seriously going to New York for another year of kindergarten work. She spoke of meeting people, etc. thru you, [288], and I hope you encourage her in making this change, if you feel the idea is wise. It seems to me the best things she can do at present, and I only hope that thru this, will come something of real happiness for her. I am fully aware that this will be difficult for [369] from many different angles and that after these past years it will be much of a strain to her to do this yet I believe that it is by far the best opening for her. If it could only lead to something. I like to think that efforts count, if so this break will be quite a big help in her favor. So [288], if you also think the plan a good one, try hard to help to give to her some courage and strength, so that it will be easier for her.

I hope your summer has been a pleasant one, and that you have seen lots of the baby [1208]. Know he is adorable. When you have time, write to me, and thank you, [288].

R6. 3/25/43 See friend’s reading 369-16, Par. 32-A—34-A, regarding their mutual responsibility to one another, why each is so affected by the experiences of the other, how best to meet these and still retain their close friendship. [Miss [1922] had 2-3 times had relationships with men which made a nervous wreck out of Miss [369].] Friends of each were warning them against the other, believing it necessary for them to break up their friendship, so that each could find a life of her own without interference from the other. In some quarters they were accused of having a homosexual relationship. They each declared, however, that if this were true it was not in a physical sense but rather in a mental-emotional sense. They seemed unable to think or act or decide independently of the other.

R7. 12/52 Miss [1922] was honored by the PTA of her school. She received a scroll which read: “In grateful appreciation of 25 years of loyal service, outstanding devotion and inspired guidance in teaching the children of … school.”

R8. 7/4/56 Miss [1922] having gone home for the summer, Miss [369] phones Miss [288], as was her custom when all was not well with her. Miss [288], now Mrs. […] had gone on vacation with her husband. Her brother, [391], answered the phone. He and Miss [369] had known each other for years and, both being unhappy, they celebrated the 4th together. Quickly [391] proposed marriage. After a week of celebrating, Miss [369] decided she would not marry [391]. In the meantime she had communicated with Miss [1922] who was horrified; she knew [391], that he was much younger and emotionally unstable. She and [369] then planned a vacation together.

R9. 7/28/56 [1922]‘s letter to [288]:

The George Vanderbilt Hotel Asheville, North Carolina

Sat - 8.15 A.M.

… St. …, Va.

Dear [288]:

Will you please try to keep in touch with [369] a few days to help her over this GREAT DEPRESSION? I talked to her last night at 11.30 and she says all the time she is going to kill herself anytime. As you know she is a person who cannot be easily explained or understood but just ACCEPTED. She has many many fine traits but when this darkness comes over her she has only one thought - and that is FOR SELF. Could you even contact […] if that would help her to bring her out of HER SELF? She is very much interested in him, as you know.

We got along horribly [on their vacation together] and she left but that doesn’t keep me from worrying ALL THE TIME about her. Said she talked to you last night. But she shuts herself in her room - NO FOOD and is really ill physically.

If you can see her in person & feel you should, call Dr. Venner [Robert B. Venner, M.D.]. I feel we must not stand by and let her kill herself. She loves YOU DEARLY even tho she may not admit it & has a very high opinion also of [[288]‘s husband]. Maybe she could come down and watch T.V. or just for a few days if she is able, could you give her some TYPE OF WORK to do? It is hard for me to come back now because of mother but I do plan to be there by last week of August. I am leaving this hotel today and will go by to see my sister, but plan to be back at … not later than Tuesday.

If I write [369] she won’t go to box to get mail and I do not have money to call every day. I will call today at noon, just as I leave.

As to her drinking I honestly do not think that is the trouble with her. But no matter what she needs help and love and I could not reach her these days.

So I am asking you to PLEASE TRY. If you think I should come back I can plan to do so or if you want to call in Dr. Venner for her - do so. She is now where she can’t help herself. And she just can’t take hardships the way we can. I’ve rambled on so I doubt if you can get a picture of the situation. But I know YOU CAN HELP HER AND WILL. Please know that it is a compliment to you that you’d be the one person I’d turn to. She has always said, “When I die I want [288] by me” and it is so sad that she gets herself this upset. She was much worse when she found [391] had gone somewhere.

But please [288] try to keep in touch with her. You may call me collect …, Va - by Tuesday, if needs be. Make it person to person.

Please forgive this poor letter but I know it is an opportunity to help [369] - if you can. Thank you.

I don’t mind her knowing I’ve written to you.

R10. 8/9/56 Miss [369] and Mr. [391] got married. All went fairly well until Miss [1922] returned in the fall. The situation became intolerable for all three. Although [369] claimed she had “broken off” with [1922], the pull was so strong at times that she could not resist visiting her. Finally Miss [1922] became ill and returned home to her family. [369] was in a constant turmoil, phoning [1922] and writing her constantly. She agreed with [391] that he should go out west and she would join him later, so that they could start a new life together. He left in April, 1957. She then was on the phone to him nightly in California. He was ready for her to come but she couldn’t make up her mind to go.

R11. 5/25/57 She [369] took her life, was discovered in her car, ignition on, dead battery, no gas, closed doors, etc.

R12. 5/31/57 [1922]‘s letter to [288]:

Dear [288]:

Thank you for your added note about “dear [369]”. I know you understand and have been a loyal friend to her.

No, I did not get the letter you spoke of from her. I do hope it may be found and sent to me [She told […] on phone that night that she had sent long letter to [1922].]

You are thoughtful to have enclosed a copy of the report to [391] and [1208]. Mrs. [S…] has been kind to write me often. Some time later I’ll visit Mrs. [S…] and shall can and talk to you.

In the meantime maybe you can HELP ME OUT (even though I do hate bringing up extra duties for you).

I left my new green & white checked suit for [369] to store for me. It had … label inside short coat. She had not stored it. Also she had a LARGE sized envelope, possibly addressed to me in her writing. In it, it had all my E War bonds and also a business letter from Richmond concerning my retirement. These things are naturally important to me and if you can locate and send, I’ll surely appreciate it. Am sure letter was in her room put away - NOT in VAULT.

Of course there will never be a time when I don’t miss [369], but I am convinced that God is taking care of her and that it was for the best, at present.
