This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of July, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1931], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [1931], present in this room. Considering his induction into military service on August 17th, and the general as well as specific conditions that may result, you will please advise him at this time as to a course of procedure which will give opportunity for the greatest service, as well as his mental, physical and spiritual development. You will answer the questions he submits, as I ask them:

2. EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, [1931]; this we have had before.

3. When those conditions are considered that are present, and that present themselves, this should have been done sometime ago!

4. But - through any and all channels where there may be the use of help - we would make application in the Quartermaster service. For, with the preparations that may be made for this body, and by this body, it is nearer in keeping with those abilities and undertakings of the body in the conservation work, - that will be a greater part of the service FOLLOWING the present undertaking. And it isn’t going to last too long! But there will be much work for the body to do in the next three to four years in these directions, and in that branch of the service may the better work be done.

6. (Q) Having just finished four years of R.O.T.C. in June, should I volunteer immediately and try to get in Officers Candidate School, or should I wait to be drafted as a private on August 17th? (A) As indicated, make application IMMEDIATELY - which should have been done before! using whatever means that may be at hand, wherever you can find, pick up or stir up ANYWHERE, the aid necessary for induction in the Quartermaster service.

7. (Q) Would the Army or the Navy be best? (A) The Army has the longest run; the Navy - the more apt to be fatal.

8. (Q) Regarding my home associations: How can I bring about more harmonious relations with my mother? (A) Set thyself a standard, an ideal. Not merely an ideal of filial or home or social relationships, or political or any other type, but an ideal relationship as with friends and foes alike. The ideal relationship as would be in a MENTAL self to ALL associations, the ideal relationship as in the spiritual. And know, all has to be founded upon what spiritual ideal is. For, this alone is universal, and this alone is eternal. That which is safe, sure, peace, harmonious, can ONLY be founded on the spiritual ideal.

KNOW thy ideal - what it stands for! Know Who is the author of same. And then LIVE IT!

This will establish better relationships with self and with the mother, with the friends and acquaintances. For, then, personalities cease to be the barriers that cause contentions or inharmony.

For, HE - the IDEAL - is ALL things to all men, in all places, in all undertakings. For He IS life and light itself!

9. (Q) Why is it that we can’t seem to agree on any particular subject? (A) Just as indicated, personalities!

Personalities always cause contention, confusion. For, there is ever present in the mind of EVERY individual his own ego, his own I AM. When these are at variance, they cause the personality of every individual to become confused - one with another.

10. (Q) Please explain the following statement in my Life Rdg. “One who will be heard from, - not only in local but in national and international activities.” Just how will this come about, and when? (A) Here is just being given the opportunity, as has just been indicated! This does not mean that you will be heard from irrespective, or that you are destined to do or to become this or that, whether you do anything about it or not! It means there is the ABILITY within the individual entity’s I AM, and the individual entity’s ego, to so conduct self that he will be an honor to himself and a glorious honor to the country and His maker.

Then apply self in that direction, for in that division - or in that portion of the Army’s activity as indicated - there will not be merely millions but BILLIONS of conservation OPPORTUNITIES for all classes, all groups of individuals!

Serve thy neighbor, thy God first, and thy country.

11. (Q) What activity will keep me more in line for the conservation work after the war? (A) This should lead into that class of work which we have indicated as best for the entity.

Do that, as outlined. Be true to self.

SERVICE CLUB No. 1 Camp Lee, Virginia

Dear Dr. Cayce,

As luck would have it I made the Quartermaster Corp. after being assigned to the Infantry at Fort Wheeler, Ga. The reading indicated that all strings should be pulled in this direction and evidently the right one was pulled by Admiral Rawcliff, a friend of mother’s.

I like it fine here at Camp Lee although it is rather hard to get accustomed to Army routine after being a good for nothing beach boy.

It seems strange to me to see so many 4 F’s here. About every man in my Company has some physical defect - flat feet

• one eye - no teeth - bad hearts and overweight.

We have finished our fourth week of basic training with 2 more to go - and then technical training for 8 weeks. In view of my R.O.T.C. and college they intend sending me to A.S.T.P. back to college for some kind of specialization.

Hope you are well and keeping up with the ever increasing mail. Please give my regards to your wife and Miss Davis.

Dear Mr. [1931]

Thanks a lot for taking the time to let us hear from you, and I do hope everything works out fine for you. I am sure you are going to have a lot of hard work to do, but you are the man who can do it, if you set your mind to it.

We hear from our boys occasionally. Both are overseas now. I don’t imagine that in the special service work you will see a great deal of active service until possibly about the end of the war, but let’s hope that comes pretty soon.

Dear Gladys -

Well I’m still overseas on Santa Maria Island in the Azores and I can say that I’m about as homesick as any one of the 1100 GI’s here. The air base here was built for Pan American Airways but since the beginning of the war the Army has taken over. No trees, no life to speak of except high priority passengers passing through.

I’m a physical training instructor at present which isn’t a bad job at all since it keeps us out in the open a good bit of every day.

Gladys, I have been looking over a few leaflets published by the Association and I noticed advertised under Physical Case Studies information on the common cold and also Child Training. I’m sending fifty cents in hopes that you might have a copy of each left.

I would be interested in knowing just how the Association is working now since Dr. Cayce’s death. Hope to hear from you soon.

R6. 3/16/46 [1931]‘s, wife’s and son’s letter:

Logan, Utah

Dear Folks,

The trip across was made without a blowout or any trouble whatsoever. We had beautiful weather through the Rockies and over the Great divide and it wasn’t until we arrived in Logan that it rained. Little Jay was wild-eyed over the big herds of cattle and horses and it is only now that he is settling down to his normal routine.

I can’t tell you how beautiful the country is here in Logan. We are surrounded by high snow capped mountains that are still deep in snow. They are so white and rugged that they almost take your breath. The air is fine and pure and the smell of Douglas Fir is always blowing in from Cache Canyon near here. Snow falls just about every day but melts now that spring is just around the corner. Across the valley are more mountains that look good enough to eat in their winter coat. Alaska had no scenery more beautiful than this wonderful spot that I never knew existed.

Deer and Elk are so numerous here in our back yards that hunters get their limits within twenty minutes this winter. Antelope, Cougar and bear, are also numerous. So you see that this is still a wild country. Several wolves have been seen recently.

We are staying in Trailer City here on the campus which is about the only housing available at present. Everyone is going through the same difficulties so it is more fun than hardship. Water is carried from central points in buckets which adds more to the pioneer flavor. Mud is several inches thick and since I have the only available truck, I do quite a bit of road work on the few automobiles here which are most always stuck.

Mormons are in the majority at the college. There is no smoking on the campus and the only place we Easterners can go is “Nicotine Bluff” which is just across the college boundary. People are friendly and always help a friend in need. We had more help unpacking that we actually needed which was good to see. We felt right at home as the long lost relatives returned at last!

Mr. Green [S. N. Green] of the Gem Exchange in Lake Bluff, Ill. has written several times since we arrived and is still trying to locate lapis ligurius but has yet had no luck. The names given in the Readings are in the language of a century ago, says Mr. Green, and it is difficult to find them in modern books. However he is still trying. The stone I am looking for is GREEN instead of the blue lapis according to the Readings. Mr. Green is moving his store to Gem Village, Colo. this month.

Hope to start “There Is a River” tomorrow. Have read several chapters here and there and it is really inspiring! […] [wife] is reading it partly from interest and partly because she is a little homesick and it mentions Virginia Beach quite a lot.

Dear [Wife] & [1931]:

We were glad to receive your letter and have your new address.

From your description of your surroundings you are evidently in for an interesting time out there. The west has much to offer that we can not compete with in the east. Certainly for your plans it seems an excellent step and we all wish you every success.

I note that you mention Mormons. While in Salt Lake City several years ago I found many of them highly intelligent and delightful conversationalist, especially about their religion which has many good points.

Do not fail to keep us advised of your progress in securing the stone and any effects you observe from keeping it on your person. The more conscious I become of the oneness of all force - even through the atomic theory of the structure of all matter - the more sense such ideas make. Looking back through the years of living with my father, it is hard to say anything is not possible.

R8. 6/15/46 [1931]‘s letter:

Yellowstone National Park

Dear Folks -

We are finally located for the summer at the south gate of this beautiful and biggest of our National parks. It is a big thrill to me to have the title of “Ranger” since I have always looked upon these guardians of our national resources as “real men” ever since I was a little shaver. I’m starting in as “Ranger-Naturalist” July 1st. which is even a bigger event in the climb up the ladder.

Well, the bragging is over now but I just had to let you all know that the readings have made me and my little family very, very happy since we at least know that we are on the right road.

People are flocking in here by the thousands from every state in the union - most of them discouraged because of accommodation shortages. The hotels and lodges officially open June 20 but I’m sure that even now every vacant bed could be filled. All of America is taking time off for a well earned rest and frankly I can think of no better spot to spend a few weeks than right here.

This Ranger - Naturalist job is a perfect opportunity to show the people a little of God’s work untouched. Every stream is pure and good to drink, chock full of trout ready for the fly. Jim Bridger, Jim Calter and all of the old mountain men as well as the Crows, Bannochs, Sioux and other Indian tribes once roamed this very country so rich in history. The antelope, buffalo and elk and moose are as common as they were when the pioneers first cut a trail through this great wilderness. The grizzlies and black bear make one aware that some danger lurks behind each tree for the camper with choice cuts of beef and bacon. I find a spice here that I have never experienced before.

[Wife] rode her first horse today and got along fine but now suffering from the usually tenderness in the south portion. And [son] finds something new to chase every day whether it be chipmunk, squirrel or woodchuck. Any time now we expect him to tackle a grizzly for he really is growing up in true western style!

Intend to return to U.S. A.C. in September to finish up a few credits for a sheepskin and then into the National Park Service for good maybe.

Dear Mr. [1931]

I am extracting and compiling for Mr. Green all the material and data from the readings relating to stones and gems. Will you please bring us up to date on your case? Have you noticed any specific effects from the stone, lapis liguris, which your reading said would be helpful to you?

First did you find you had obtained the right stone, lapis liguris, from Mr. Green? Or have you gotten one later?

Even if you do not have the exact stone, will you tell us whether you have noted any effects from the one you have? We will appreciate as exact information as you can give us. Is the effect beneficial; either mentally, physically or spiritually? Any details you can describe telling whether its effects are stabilizing or improve your general physical condition would be interesting and helpful. Will you also please give the length of time you have had the stone to note the effect? Was the effect noticeable immediately? Did this become more pronounced later? Does the effect seem to increase and continue to develop or does it gradually develop and then seem to remain constant? If you can give any other details we will be very grateful.

As you know the names of individuals do not appear on any material sent out from the Association. Names are still held strictly confidential, only quotations from the readings are used.

Since my time here is very limited, would you be good enough to send us a prompt reply? Please accept our thanks for this information now? You will probably see the results of this study in a bulletin later.

R10. 8/17/46 [1931]‘s ltr. to Miss Woodard:

Dear Miss Woodard,

I have just returned from fighting an 800 acre fire here in the park and found your letter which arrived some time ago. I hope that it is not too late for my information to be of some good to you and Mr. Green.

Mr. Green has been a real friend to me although we have never met personally. He has mailed many kinds of copper ore, all lapis, for which I am very grateful. I feel sure that lapis ligurius must be among the many specimens that I know [now?] possess.

I carry a small piece of each ore on my person at all times and feel somewhat “lazy” without it (my bag). I noticed a marked desire to create immediately after receiving and wearing the lapis. As the readings state, my life should be devoted to the conservation of natural resources. At present I am a Ranger - Naturalist here in Yellowstone and have a wonderful chance to preach conservation all during the day and also at our nightly campfire talks.

I have heretofore been horrified at the idea of getting up before a group of people and talking. With the aid of lapis I feel quite at ease and I am told that my little talks are truly inspiring and original During the fire last week quite a few men were injured by falling trees and suffered various injuries. I felt perfectly safe even though I was assigned to the hottest district! I feel that the lapis is a great protective influence.

I also might state that my personal contacts in business and in social life are happy and congenial which I feel lapis is somewhat responsible for.

Since attending Utah State in March I have found it so easy to study that my main interests before were secondary. Since the creative desire was burning I really out did myself.

My dreams are a mystery to me. I have trouble remembering them in the morning.

I hope that the foregoing might be of some use to you. If you would like to know a few more details please feel free to write.

Dear Hugh Lynn:

I wish to thank you for the continued thoughtfulness in sending the Bulletin and Searchlight. There always seems to be a word of encouragement in each letter from the Association too and it is like word from home to hear from headquarters.

Some time ago you mentioned that you would like to have copies of my “masterpieces” on natural history for the files. They are not much but possibly they might help to prove AGAIN that the readings are right AGAIN. I hesitate to call any of them a work of art.

Congratulations on the new member of the family. We also were a happy couple on October 8 when our third boy arrived. It looks as though the Atlanteans think that this is the time to iron out a few wrinkles from the past. Our oldest (4 yrs.) is certainly adding lines to his daddy’s brow for he very definitely has a mind of his own. Children of the New Age is coming in very handy at present.

We have moved into a very comfortable little home in Yorktown now and we would certainly like to have you folks drop in, if and when you are up this way. Rock are biting well here in the York River and I can guarantee all the fish you can eat if you come up.

I hope to get the booklets off in the next mail; Hope you won’t be to critical.

Dear Mrs. Taylor:

I appreciated hearing from you and learning of the problem which confronts you and your son Jim. If only Edgar Cayce were living now I am sure that a reading would be the answer to many of those knotty problems that you are now dealing with. I was very fortunate in contacting the Association at an early age and as the result of a Life Reading and several Check Readings, I have found the kind of work for which I am best suited.

As you can see from the letterhead, I am no longer with the U.S. National Park Service. Last August we moved to North Carolina where I have assumed the title of U.S. Game Management Agent and enforce the Federal fish and game regulations in this State. The Life Reading advised Government work in the conservation of natural resources and I can assure you that I enjoy the position immensely.

From your letter I gather that Jim will be employed during the summer with either the U.S. Forest Service or the Calif. State Forest Service. If he has decided that forestry is his chosen field every bit of experience will help considerably. Since I have no connections with the Virginia State Forest Service or the U.S. Forest Service in Virginia, I am at a loss to advise you of the best course to take. Applications for summer positions are usually made during the winter months and forestry students from the many forestry schools in the east are considered for seasonal appointment. Forestry is a very popular course nowadays and competition is keen for the few available positions which may arise.

As to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the same is true in the Branch of Game Management. We have two Agents stationed in North Carolina, one at Washington and myself at Salisbury. A total of 99 comprise the force in the United States. Several deputies are employed from State personnel. No seasonal positions are available. Jim might make application with the Virginia State Forest Service, Department of Conservation and Development, Richmond, Va., stating his qualifications and type of position desired.

I am sorry that I cannot assist at the moment for it would seem that Jim and I have a great deal in common in loving the great outdoors. As another thought, has your son thought of a ranger position with the National Park Service, or better yet, ranger-naturalist? I worked at both positions in Yellowstone Park, Wyoming, and Yosemite National park, Calif. during the summer months of 1946 and 1947. There are also worlds of other jobs to do such as being a member of the blister rust crew, trail crew, fire-guard, and employment with the various concessions in the larger Parks. I found the work broadening and wonderful experience.

Please have Jim contact me if he wishes any additional information in regard to this type of work for I would be only too glad to assist in any way possible.
