GC: You will answer the questions regarding this body as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes - what a change!
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is the condition of the body now, and what should be the treatment? (A) The body needs more rest than anything else. There should be something of a tonic to quiet the body, put together in this manner; adding these ingredients in the order named:
Elixir or Syrup of Wild Cherry…1 ounce, Tincture of Valerian…1/2 ounce, Compound Tincture of Pepsin…1/2 ounce.
The dose would be 1/2 teaspoonful every three hours; this to quiet and to change the general reactions of the hypogastric and pneumogastric tension that has been imposed upon - the nerve forces about the umbilical center.
After a few days the body should have a general relaxation osteopathically, that will allow for a better flow through the whole nerve system along the spinal forces and especially in those areas of the upper dorsals and through the cervicals and in the lumbar and through the sacral.
Do that in the present.
-
(Q) What is heart condition? (A) Just taxation from general nerve exhaustion.
-
(Q) Digestion? (A) Digestion is very poor, hence the properties not only for the elimination but to aid in the ability of the lactics to become better able for digestion. There is a lacking in the acids.
And unless a great deal of strength, attained by a diet that carries a great deal of easily assimilated foods, it may be necessary to add hydrochloric acid to the system.
If this is to be added we find that this may best be done by the use of Acigest taken in raw milk; teaspoonful in a glass of raw milk every other day, preferably at the evening meal.
-
(Q) Pelvic areas? (A) As indicated this area needs relaxation. This has been disturbed by pressures from outside influences or injuries. Balance the pelvic bones in the adjustments.
-
(Q) The ears? (A) These activities are from the upper dorsal that needs clarifying by purifying the circulation through the area, by relaxing those areas and allowing the circulation to be improved.
-
(Q) Suggestions for gaining weight? (A) Add to the body-forces as in the diet such foods especially as oatmeal with cream, beef juice taken as medicine - this at least a tablespoonful a day but divided in two or three doses. Let the body be at least three to four minutes in sipping a teaspoonful. Never take more than a teaspoonful at a time.
Do those things, and keep creative in the thought forces for betterment of the mental and spiritual self.
- We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/2/43 [1947]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I certainly appreciated your arranging a time for me. And I don’t believe I’ve ever been more pleased with a reading. This one hit the nail on the head very definitely.
Mrs. [1663] reports that the Congress was a great success. I wish I could have attended. She is visiting her son and grandsons in Florida at the present time.
Many more thanks to you for the wonderful help, and let me know if I can be of any service to you. Don’t work TOO hard!
Fondly, [1947]
R2. 9/6/43 EC’s letter to [1947]:
Mrs. [1947] …, N.C.
Dear Mrs. [1947]:
Thanks for yours of the 2nd with enclosure. I am happy indeed to hear that you are feeling better and I hope that very soon you will be your normal good self.
Yes, we missed you at the Congress and I hope that it is not too much to hope that we will see you at the Beach sometime in the future.
I would like very much for you to see these grandsons of ours. We think they are wonderful.
Have you seen the September issue of Coronet? If you read the article about us in there, you won’t wonder that we are snowed under with requests and we are so far ahead with appointments, that I wonder which way we are going.
Thanking you and with every good wish.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R3. 9/11/44 Monday, [1947]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I am so sorry you’ve been ill! I hope so much you’ve recovered by now. Having been in a cast and on crutches for 3 months at the beginning of the summer, I can certainly sympathize with you! We all certainly do have our trials and tests, - and refining periods (we hope) don’t we? I can’t tell you what it meant to Mrs. [1663] to have you phone her [on death of her husband]. It was the ONE thing that pulled her through. She said “Now I know why I’ve been able to stand up through all this - Mr. Cayce has been praying for me.” It gave her new strength to go on. Thank you SO much. I am enclosing $1.00 to help out with the phone call. Mrs. [1992] has sent or will send more.
I was so sorry I couldn’t get to the congress, but being in a cast with a leg injury - I couldn’t. The open reading on world affairs [3976-29], I believe, is the best yet.
If at the end of any of your many readings, - (when you get back to work) you have a few spare minutes, I certainly need a quick physical check-up. I’ve kept saying “No, Mr. Cayce has too much to do, already,” but the urge comes again and again: “HAVE A CAYCE CHECK-UP!” So I bow in humility to my inner guidance. Don’t think I didn’t try to spare you because I really did.
Just drop me a note when you’re expecting to have a short reading and I’ll stay home then. Love to you all.
Affectionately - [1947]
PHYSICAL QUESTIONS
ARE THERE ANY SUGGESTIONS?
What is the status of the general physical condition?
Heart?
Digestion? Do I now have enough hydrochloric acid?
Teeth & gums? Is any infection present? If so, how should it be handled?
What should I now do about my hearing? (It is definitely worse)
What is causing my skin upset which occurs if I leave off the neuro-phosphates prescribed by the physician? Should I continue taking it?
If I remarry (?) is my physical condition such that it is safe for me to have another child? If so, - is caudal anesthesia safe to use for my physical condition?
What is best location for me to live in for my health?
R4. 10/25/44 [1947]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I am enclosing my membership fee for renewal and hope a space will open up for the check physical reading (for which I sent the questions some time ago) at the end of one of your shorter readings. I wonder if you will add this question, since I am contemplating moving to Chicago soon. “Is there a doctor recommended to treat my ear difficulty (which is increasing) located in Chicago?”
I do hope you are feeling better! Mrs. [1663] is getting her balance again and is over the worst of the shock. She still tells how you called her up and helped to pull her through by letting her hear your voice. It was SUCH a help. I know you are awaiting the end of the war and Hugh Lynn’s return. A Mrs. Hole who has just moved here from Greensboro wants to meet you. I hope she’ll drive up some day and bring me with her so I can see you, too, - particularly in case I move to Chicago.
Is the fishing season over? If so, I hope you aren’t getting into mischief with your spare (?) time!
Lots of love to Gladys, Mrs. Cayce and you. [1947]
R5. 3/28/45 Easter card from [1947]:
BEST WISHES for a HAPPY EASTER
Dear Everybody,
I have only recently come out of a state of being completely stunned at Mr. Cayce’s leaving. When he went, a light went out, and I haven’t felt quite whole since, - as I know you haven’t, too.
However, I have an Easter message from those who are around him, - or so I judge. You may draw your own conclusions. About 10 days ago, I surprised everyone, including myself, by going into a trance. Fortunately some understanding friends were with me at the time and proceeded calmly to try to bring me back. But I refused - saying that there was in important message to be transmitted first. The message was concerned with one of the individuals present - and then more messages came. As far as we’ve been able to check thus far, the messages have worked out with surprising reliability. Since then, I’ve been “under” twice more. Once, someone in the group suddenly asked “do you see Mr. Cayce?” I reported “No
- he has gone to an extremely high plane where he is resting. He was so tired.” Then “they” added “HE IS A FINE MAN.” I thought you’d like to know the message.
It seems I sit up when I go to sleep rather than lie down and I can recall some of the incidents at first on re-awakening, but they soon fade, as in a dream. In the last session “Prof.” […] came through with a message for Mrs. [1663].
I haven’t the slightest idea of what the explanation is for all this. I merely want it to be helpful to others if it is to continue.
Much love -
R6. 5/4/45 [1947]‘s letter to GD [Sent copy of letter to her written to Margaret Kurtz [Mrs. Matthew J. Kurtz], 5/14/45, with no notations, etc. GD.]:
Dear Gladys,
I am, of course, sorry, in a way, to hear of Mrs. Cayce’s death, but we both know it is for the best. I am writing now, because Mr. Cayce has asked me to - strange as that may sound.
The trance mediumship is developing into a rich and genuine experience. Mr. Cayce has fixed the time 10:00 A.M. each day, and he is there to protect, pray and guide my footsteps in the right way.
It’s funny, how, when he was alive, my main worry was who would take his place - who would carry on his work, - who would help us with our development, who would lead us as he did. There is no question about it, now. He is definitely leading, probably more effectively than before because he can reach more people with less drain of physical energy.
Mrs. Harriet Seymour, teacher of musical therapy in hospitals in New York, passed on in September. She was highly developed and her pupils report - in surprise - that she is with them constantly, helping them. They all feel her presence, and were surprised the others also feel the same way.
My gradual development in the trance field started about a month after Mr. Cayce’s death and came entirely as a surprise. It’s growth would take reams of paper. I have a handful of witnesses, and I am grateful to say several lives have already been “un-kinked” due to the information which has come through.
Mr. Cayce asked me to write you for two reasons:
Do any other people report similar experiences, or sense his nearness, to you?
Since I want to pass up the SPIRITUALISTIC element, and reach the SPIRITUAL sources as he did, have you suggestions as to WHO, or WHAT MIGHT HELP AND HASTEN THIS DEVELOPMENT? Where is Riley Simmons? [See 3/45 A.R.E. Bulletin secondary article by Riley Simmons, “THE ‘SECRET’ OF EDGAR CAYCE.”] I need some clarification of technique as soon as possible. After all, I am a neo-phyte.
If you are coming to New York, I’ll be happy to get through for you to receive what information I can for you. I seem to focus better when understanding people ask me questions than if I operate alone. I will be in New York until June 1st then in Connecticut for the summer.
I am enclosing money to help the cause. I’d appreciate the bulletins and diary letter - anything to keep me up to date with your activities. The remainder is a gift to help YOU and the cause.
Affectionately, [1947]
New York, N.Y.
R7. 11/6/45 Letter: “I will bring you [GD] up to date the best I can since I saw you last, as to the direction in which we are moving. According to Ariel Taylor I was meant to release others. You remember the [our] reading which you attended, [in N.Y. 8/45] mentioning a circle, a sacred circle, as it were, receiving direct light? One development seems for me to help others develop THEIR ability to contact the ‘forces’ themselves rather than through someone else…
“Schools are beginning to open up gradually in this territory, so I hope my other profession can do some good for growing girls.” [GD’s note: Her letter indicated that Mr. […] [whom she later married] was in daily contact with her and helping her.]
R8. 11/7/46 Letter to HLC: “I appreciated your letter in answer to mine, sometime ago, and I hope you will be coming to N.Y. before too long and sit in with our group. Margueritte Bro was with us time before last and others drop in from time to time…
”[…] and I have been married recently and we hope to be able to give any help we can to others, - within our meager limitations. Do join the group whenever you are in N.Y.” Fondly, [1947]
R9. 11/30/46 HLC’s letter to [1947]:
Mrs. [1947] …, N.Y.
Dear [1947]:
I want to thank you and all of the members of the group for your kindness in allowing me to meet with you for your Friday Noon meeting.
You are developing a most interesting technique and approach to the unfolding of the psychic faculties (soul faculties) of the various group members. In my opinion, it is certainly very sound and should produce excellent results. I want to thank each member of the group for the comments which were made regarding my own problems; or as the readings put it - “so called problems”. The suggestions were sound and should be extremely helpful. Please express my appreciation to all those who were present.
I hope you will keep me informed of the progress and development, and that you will feel free to forward to me from time to time any helpful guidance which may come through. As you well understand the situation, you can realize what this may mean to me. We do have an important work ahead of us and your interest and cooperation will always be welcome.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce [HLC/dm]
R10. 12/19/46 HLC’s letter to [1947]:
Dear [1947]
Our January bulletin is carrying an article on the mental and spiritual readings. I feel sure that it is going to arouse the interest of some of our members in having more data regarding information of a spiritual nature on the development of psychic faculties. When I began to prepare the article, I considered using extracts from your mental and spiritual reading [1947-3]. However, I found that the entire reading was such a complete whole that I felt it unwise to use just parts of it.
I plan to prepare a mimeograph copy of it, using, of course, just a case number, which will be distributed to those who request it. It makes a very fine follow-up study for the January bulletin article.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how much I have enjoyed going over the reading again and tell you that I realize how well you are following the suggestions contained in it. I am sure it is going to bring a great deal of good to many people.
Christmas greetings and best wishes for the New Year to all of you.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce [HLC/dm]
R11. 1/47 Introduction to a mimeographed article to A.R.E. members containing reading 1947-3 including Par. 47-A through 50-A:
THE DEVELOPMENT OF PSYCHIC FACULTIES One of the most interesting types of readings given by Edgar Cayce dealt with the development of psychic faculties.
The January 1947 Bulletin carried two case studies of individuals who received help in meeting problems brought on by misunderstanding and misusing such powers.
This is a supplementary paper, a complete Mental-Spiritual reading given for a young woman who has constantly sought to help others through her psychic gifts.
Note the spiritual tone and quality of the guidance.
The answer to question three [Par. 49-A] is particularly thought provoking.
If you have questions after reading this paper, we will be glad to undertake discussion-correspondence with you about it. - HLC
R12. 2/17/47 [1947]‘s ltr. to HLC:
…, N.Y.
Dear Hugh Lynn:
I have received your letters, and appreciated them thoroughly, even though you have probably already discovered that I am not a letter writer. I guess I expect people to feel my good wishes by telepathy, but I decided that there is such a thing as putting a strain on your already overtaxed receptive powers. You have so many people to tune in to. So it is high time I lightened your load in that direction, at least.
I am sorry not to have seen you on your recent trip to New York, but it seemed better, because of cross-thought currents, not to attend the meeting, which I hear was a great success. I’m sure you understand that my non-attendance was not due to lack of interest or support, since the very opposite is true. I’m in constant sympathy with your great task of helping the world toward the light which your father helped so greatly to generate and illuminate. You should have all the help available, since it’s a JOB. Jesus and your father certainly did their parts, and it behooves the rest of us to add to their efforts with whatever meagre equipment we may have.
If my reading will serve to be of any help to anybody else, of course you are welcome to distribute it. The only caution I should like to pass on is that for the sake of protecting at least one member of our group here in New York, it might be better to withhold mention of the present location of the individual in question (i.e. me). Margaret Hall suggested I tell you this, and I know she is right, although I don’t know all the facts of the case, myself. Just an inkling. So if the reading does not reveal either identity nor location, I’m sure all is well.
Since you are interested in this subject as a whole, of helping people who are interested in developing their psychic abilities, and there are countless numbers of them, did you know that we have a detailed record of chronological events as to how, step by step, the channel was opened up in this case, - dating back to your father’s passing on? I don’t know whether anyone told you or not. We are now in process of adding to it how it grew from one person to two, three, then into a group, all of whom have had almost identical symptoms of “opening up”. Several who have read it with an editorial eye say it won’t be ready for the press until these group chapters have been added, and then we prefer it to be unlabeled as far as individual names are concerned. I do feel that you have every right to read it, since it seems to have sprung out of your association, and you are welcome to do so, of course, providing it is passed on for reading to anyone else, only with our specific permission. The “forces” have labored through many of us to get this information through, purportedly, and want it to be of help, undiluted, and not too much tampered with. Also the case of antipathy referred to in the previous paragraph must be kept in mind, so no trouble will ensue, (for that one individual).
Let me know if you would like to see it, if it would be of further help in your research. Since I am not in a position to bestow money to the association, - or more specifically to you to aid your efforts, I do want you to know I want to help an [in?] any way I am able.
Best Wishes -
P.S. We’d love to have you visit us where if you want to get out of the city and hide to the country, you’re always welcome. We’re simple country-folk, about 1 hour and 10” from Grand Central.
Love to Gladys. [1947]
R13. 3/27/56 Letter: “Will you please transfer my Associate membership to my daughter, Mrs. [2005] and send her the Bulletins instead of to me. We will be travelling the major part of the year and she will look forward to them eagerly.”
R14. 12/56 Letter reported on doings of entire family, indicating a very busy, happy life for all of them, also announced the arrival of [2005]‘s baby.
R15. 4/62 Routine mailing was returned giving a California address.
R16. 12/21/65 GD’s note: I just heard that [1947] now has 7 grandchildren, 4 boys and 3 girls; both her sons-in-law are college professors; her husband does a lot of travelling in his business but is still taking time out to write a book on management; she, herself, has written two books - both of them having to do with health and staying young; she also is editor of a periodical; writes two columns in magazines and has a daily radio program - she’s busy and loves it all.
