This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 18th day of September, 1939, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [1947], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions which have been submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: We have the records here of that entity now known as or called, [2004].

3. As we find, from the records and the interpretations of same, we have rather an unusual personality here to deal with. As to whether the talents or developments are given the opportunity of manifestations in this present experience will depend a great deal upon those upon whom the entity is depending for advice and counsel to its fifteenth to sixteenth year.

4. These as we find are INNATE within the experience of this entity, as will be seen from the astrological as well as the earthly sojourns; the earthly sojourns having been of such a nature as to bring a great emotional body.

5. One whose talent and ability, directed properly, may be a great wit or orator or speaker, or lecturer.

6. One who may write even great plays. For there should be the special training ESPECIALLY in those directions of Shakespearean plays, and usages of words in those directions. For the talents and abilities, if they are properly directed, will run in these directions.

7. In choosing the interpretations of the records as we find here, - these are given with the desire that they may be helpful not only to the entity, as it comprehends and understands, but also that there may be a helpful force in the experiences of those who would direct such a personality in its developing years.

8. The astrological aspects, we find, come in a contrarywise nature, as might be said, as an April child is proverbially spoken of; yet a temperament or a nature that is hard to comprehend; being a dreamer; one that wanders far off, that will through the developing years; and yet should be attuned to a spiritual, a highly mental and a devotional material life.

9. For as we find, there will be more than one experience in its relationships with others, as with the opposite sex. Affairs may be a part of the entity’s experience, and yet these - if there are the proper directions - may be turned into material benefits; not merely as for the gain but as for mental and spiritual development also.

10. In Mercury, Venus, Uranus and Jupiter we find the greater astrological aspects; that, then, of high mental ability, - the directions in those influences of a great deal of emotional nature, - in the beauty, in the movement, in the rhythm of the activities. Dancing, and especially that of carriage and manner should be a part of the entity’s training, - as should be the rudiments of music, and an instrument as of the mandolin or its nature, - either the guitar or banjo or mandolin, or of such natures that bring moods and answer to moods in the individual; for it will be moody in many of its experiences.

11. The influences in Uranus make for the extremes, - as in Jupiter for those things that will deal with the great masses or numbers of people.

12. And as these develop, then they should be in those directions as we have indicated, - wherein there may be expressed the great abilities that are latent and will be manifest in the experience, - in the writing of plays or speechmaking or lecturing or of that nature.

13. For as we find, these become a great part of the entity’s experience.

14. As to the appearances in the earth, - these, as indicated, find a great activity or part in the present experiences. These will come rather according to the manner or way of activity in which directions are given, and as to purposes and activities in the environs for the entity.

15. Give the entity an opportunity, and the WORLD, as well as those close to the entity, will be proud of the entity’s accomplishments.

16. The appearances, then:

17. Before this we find the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those periods when there were the struggling peoples in the land, or especially of the west coast, - or during the period known as of the forty-niners.

18. There we find the entity, as Brenda Morrison, making for entertainment and activities that had much to do with the peoples of that day and time; directing what would in the present be called a great deal of questioning, - yet the very heart of the entity was in the making for better influences and conditions as for justice to all in their dealings and relationships with men and conditions and manners of peoples and activities.

19. We find the entity there gained and lost, but lost - as would be termed - from the material angles because, especially, of the lack of what would be termed expressive spiritual life; yet innately this is deep in the experience of the entity and needs to be, as it were, fanned into a flame through the present experience and become a part of the real outward expression, - but not outward for show. [12/21/65 GD’s note: I just heard that [2004]‘s husband is a prof. of theology. They have 3 boys and a little girl with an East Indian name. They have spent several yrs. in India.]

20. Before that we find the entity was in the land of the present sojourn during the early settlings in the land; in and about Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, Richmond, - which were all a part of the entity’s experience.

21. And as will be seen, irrespective of the dwelling places of the entity, the inclinations to make songs of and to make activities that would become as jokes or after dinner speeches about activities of the peoples through that experience will be a part of the entity’s innate and manifested force in the present sojourn.

22. The name then was Josephine Cole, [Her sister is married to a man with a similar surname.] and in the experience the entity became as a leader of the social set, the entertainments in the experiences of the land; uniting in those activities with people who became the leaders in the land, - of the Fairfax family.

23. We find that the entity gained through the sojourn there, bringing much to be met in this experience through its application in self and towards those things as make for entertainments and activities.

24. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as or called the German land, during the early portions of the activities of that land, when there was the resorting to measures wherein the extremes of individuals’ activities were a part of the experiences of the peoples of that age and era.

25. And these brought for the entity a deep, sincere activity in the experiences of the peoples in the manner and way of depicting the motivating forces and influences in the lives of individuals.

26. The name then was Gretchen, and the entity gained.

27. And the beauty of activity, of culture, will be necessary as a part of the experiences if the greater influences are to become a part of the entity’s present expression.

28. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Grecian land, during the period or age when Xenophon made for activities over the eastern land.

29. And the entity set to song much of that as became the war songs, as well as the longings of the peoples of that day when they were separated from their lands, their peoples, their homes.

30. Hence we will find in the present experience of the entity the ability to use the colloquialisms of individuals, groups, sections of the country, as a part of what may become the peculiar entertainment features of the entity in its writings, in its speakings, or its making its expression or impressions upon its audience. For it will bring through its writings, through its activities, MUCH moneys into the experience.

31. Train the entity then for a career, until at least it is thirty-four or thirty-five years of age.

32. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during the period of the reconstruction activities, after the return of the Priest.

33. We find the entity was among those who were set for a special service to be a part of what were to become the ruling factors in the land, - or the preparing of same for motherhood to the rulers of the land.

34. In the experience the entity gained, the entity lost; for the ability to lord it over others became too much of the entity’s experience in that sojourn.

35. Hence the needs in the present for the development of humbleness, and more of a democratic nature in its associations and activities, will be a part of the experience for the entity.

36. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, and that to which it may attain, and how:

37. As indicated, as to what it will become depends upon what environment and opportunities are given. It will SUCCEED in WHATEVER field of activity it chooses.

38. Then, those who would bring opportunities, give the correct developments in the guiding of the mental self through the formative years to the constructive influences and forces rather than those that become of a selfish or self-indulging nature, or the gratifying only for the material gains. For these will come of themselves if there is the opportunity given.

39. Keep the way open for SPIRITUAL life, spiritual development; else we may find all of these coming to naught.

40. Ready for questions.

41. (Q) Does she need a physical reading? (A) We haven’t the Physical in this present seeking. As for those indications we find here, there is not such a great dependence upon these, - if there are the correct principles of physical living adhered to.

42. (Q) What danger after next year, and how is it to be avoided? (A) Dependent upon the environs that may be brought into the experience, owing to those changes in the activities about the entity.

43. (Q) Should she sing? (A) Not so much in singing as in the carriage, the dancing, and music.

44. (Q) How should her stubborn spells be handled? (A) In love and in sympathy. Stubbornness is NOT an innate thing; it is wanting the way, - and this it will have eventually, if the purposes of things are given as an understanding.

45. (Q) Will she become more attractive in appearance? (A) As has been indicated, even the land, the country may be proud of the entity and its abilities, - if there are the directions given in its formative years.

46. We are through for the present.

R10. 9/56 “[2004] started to work for … as secretary in the TV Sales Traffic Dept. This is the only way she hopes to work her way up to the coveted TV production and programming area. At least she is learning how many unbelievable thousands each major TV program costs to produce. She has also learned how it feels to be a commuter.”

R11. 9/20/58 HLC’s letter to [2004]:

Dear Miss [2004]:

A week ago Dr. Ian Stevenson, head of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology at the University of Virginia, visited us here in Virginia Beach. One of the subjects we discussed was the possibility of regression under hypnosis for individuals who have had Edgar Cayce life readings.

After some discussion we settled on a group of individuals whose readings indicated they had incarnations in or near Williamsburg, Virginia. We selected Williamsburg because there seemed to be a pattern of group activity there, and also because of the fine work they have done there in preserving records should make it easier to find traces of incarnations there. Secondly, Williamsburg is close to Virginia Beach and eventually this would permit us to make a complete study of any existing records.

Dr. Stevenson has offered to undertake age regression for any of the individuals who had life readings. He will not be given any of the data from the readings, hence any confirmation along with additional details will make the most interesting kind of evidence for reincarnation. There will be no charge for Dr. Stevenson’s time. It would be necessary for the individuals involved to visit in Charlottesville for an appointment when the hypnotism might be undertaken.

I am sure you realize that I am not in favor of playing with hypnotism (nor do the readings recommend indiscriminate use of it). Dr. Stevenson is a trained psychiatrist who is interested in the whole field of psychical research. In my opinion, he would not only be sympathetic, but work with him would be safe and perhaps helpful.

You may, of course, have very good reasons why you cannot consider participating in this experiment. In this event, simply consider this a report of A.R.E. activities in checking data in the life readings. Tape recordings and careful records will be kept. Names will never be used in any reports.

You may write to Dr. Stevenson direct, at the School of Medicine, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia; suggesting possible times when you could visit there, allowing him a full day for the experiments, or two days if you have the time. Or if you will advise me, I will write him for you.
