GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with special reference to the high fever, bite on ankle, the inflammation and swelling of foot and ankle; giving suggestions for corrective measures, answering the questions that may be asked:
-
EC: Yes. As we find, this acute condition arises from a bite, but not of any very SEVERE type - though this might become so.
-
There should have been first (and this will now materially aid) this application over the bite and swelling. Moisten salt or make it wet with Turpentine and put on as a poultice, not binding. Change this about every hour or so until most of the swelling is gone.
-
Then keep the body quiet.
-
Start eliminations with a good emit, as Castoria, Syrup of Figs - the Milk of Bismuth may be added with same to purify the system. But Milk of Magnesia would be very well to keep down the temperatures.
-
Bathing the body, of course, with the weaker solution of the salt and turpentine will be helpful - along the spine - but this very weak. Apply the poultice over the bite and the ankle and foot.
-
Do not give heavy foods, only those that are almost pre-digested, when foods are given.
-
And give plenty of water.
-
These as we find are the better under the present conditions.
-
(Q) Is the temperature from the bite? (A) It is from the whole combination of fright as well as a bite.
-
(Q) Was this bite from a spider? (A) From a bug, not a spider.
Do this as we find, but do it right away.
- We are through with this Reading.

R1. 7/30/42 [23]‘s letter to EC:
Dear “Little Eddie” -
Several times I’ve made an attempt to get this letter off to you.
I’m so grateful to you for your response to our plea for help. You have no idea I’m sure how we feel about you. My first thought when something goes wrong is - “A reading! Quick!!”
We have had a scare with [2015] this time. She woke me up at midnight crying in a delirium and with a raging fever. She was crying “Mother Dear - you’re scratching my foot with your fingernail” “Keep those animals out of the house - why do those ducks want to come in here,” etc., etc. Scared me so. Then when I examined her foot and found two little red spots in her ankle near two mosquito bites (which I had been doctoring). The spots were close together like a snake bite
- when I discovered that I WAS scared! I called Mother [760] and we doctored her to the best of our knowledge. I started with the Castoria as soon as I discovered her fever. Mother [760] came that morning and we soaked her foot in a Bichloride solution. Kept it wet. Her fever kept on and on and that was when I wired for the reading.
The poison settled in one of the mosquito bites and just made an awful place the size of a dime and turned inside out. It still hasn’t healed entirely - and she is still a little droopy at times.
That salt and turpentine poultice certainly did the trick. Her foot and ankle were swelled double normal size and after an hour of that poultice the swelling had begun to go down and by the next night it was only half as bad as at first. The next morning the dark purplish red had turned to a pink and most of the swelling had gone. Thought it was quite a while before all the swelling & inflammation left. I’m still dressing the bite twice a day.
The reason we thought it might be a spider was the fact that we killed an enormous one out in the hall that first morning she was sick.
I do appreciate so much your quick action and your helping us so many times. It’s an awful feeling when your body gets sick. You can appreciate that fact - I’m sure.
I’ve been trying all summer to get to the Beach - want so much to see you all again - and want you all to see our precious Baby. She’s growing SO fast - and is just darling. You were wondering if she’d forgotten you! She talks about you all the time. Castoria - Glyco-Thymoline, Salt & Turpentine poultices - carrots - ANYTHING you’ve told us in reading to give her - she says, “Now Little Eddie says to take this - doesn’t he Mother dear - ?” and down it goes without a murmur. She hasn’t forgotten your taking her to see your elephants either [On EC’s “what not” in his study]. No matter whose elephants she sees - nor where - she thinks they should all be Little Eddie’s.
I’ve canned 1 1/2 bu. of peaches and 2 bu. of tomatoes - and will have butterbeans and snap beans soon to can. Have 4 doz. tomato plants and all are fine (and LOADED). Most every one’s garden has dried up - but so far ours is all right - we planted late and deep and the roots are down far enough to get moisture evidently. I put up about 150 qts. & pts. of vegetables and fruits last year. Afraid I won’t have that much this time tho.
Hope you are all well and busy enough to feel all right about it but not busy enough to get sick over it. Take care of yourself! And thank you a million times for your help again.
Love to each of you
Always, [23]
Aunt [1795] all right. Mother [760] & [569] not so well. Mother [760]‘s head & eyes bothering her. [1005] thin but fine.
R2. 11/30/42 Mother applied for a Check Reading, saying: “[2015] has complained recently of pains in stomach, nausea, and occasionally has vomited. Recent loss of appetite, restless.”
- What cause the frequent sensations of nausea, and occasional vomiting?
- What should be done to correct this?
- What can be done to stimulate her appetite?
- Have the nerve pressures in spine been corrected, so as to prevent further trouble later? (The stammering stopped entirely, a long time ago.)
- Is everything else normal?
- Will continued use of Camphorice gradually eliminate scar on arm?
- Are the bones of her feet normal? Does she have flatfeet or fallen arches, that her shoes won’t stay on? What should be done to correct this?

R4. 4/5/44 Letter from [23] to EC: ”…It’s funny I’ve had such wonderful luck with both of them [[2015] and [4098]]. Have never had to call a doctor for either of them (except [2015]‘s burn)…” [See 2015-6 and 2015-7.]
