This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of January, 1940, in accordance with request made by the father - Dr. […], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:50 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York, N.Y.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes - we have the body, [2017]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, conditions show improvement. There are better drainages set up in the system, and there is less tendency for the increase in the conditions about the thyroids. Also there is better activity as associated between the eliminations, especially between the lower hepatic circulation and the glands as related to their activity.
-
As we find, there needs to be kept in the present all of those suggestions which have been indicated, - including the Atomidine, but still in the very mild form; one to two minims before the morning meal, and in series - as has been indicated. This is to stimulate the activity of the glands, especially of the thyroid, for drainage.
-
Also we would keep the adjustments through the areas where greater drainages are needed for the alleviating of those disturbances which arise from overstimulation to the glands and the conditions about the thyroid.
-
There has been some disturbance in the minds of many as to the use of the Violet Ray in such conditions. This, as we find, IS beneficial. But if there is such a condition as to cause the one administering the manipulative forces to create fear in the body to which the application is made, leave same off! But we will find, eventually, the needs of changing the vibrations later on - which is done through the high vibration of such treatments.
-
In the matter of the diets, - keep to a great deal of vegetable and fruit juices. It is not advisable that the body go on a diet of these ALONE, but these may be included to a great extent in the diet with the other food values.
Have at least one meal each day consist principally of a combination of raw vegetables; but the dressing and the mixture should be altered from day to day, so that it does not become something to be dreaded, rather than something to be taken for the general health.
-
Well that the mind of the body be occupied in some specific or direct activity. As we find, some particular or direct plan for studies in some particular direction would be preferable for the body; something which would pertain to some character of research in history, histology, zoology, or the like; or anthropology. ANY of those sugjects that are of particular interest to the entity would be channels through which greater activities of the mind may be directed as a helpful force for the body.
-
These we would do, and - as we find - we will continue to keep the body on the improve. Be sure the eliminations are kept somewhat above normal.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Does it seem that an operation of the thyroid will be avoided? (A) It should be avoided.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/14/40 [2017]‘s father’s letter to EC:
“I wish to thank you for your reading of my daughter, [2017], and your encouraging letter of February 2nd. Just before I received your reading, I sent her to the medical center for a Metabolism Test. The rate was about plus 38, which is very high and I was pretty discouraged when your reading came, which said that there was improvement. I do not know how true they were, but a test last summer showed a rate of plus 50 and another test after about six weeks showed a rate of plus 19. (This was when she was going to the medical doctor, who was quieting her down by giving sedatives.) And I was hoping that her rate would be below plus 19. But going up to 38 was rather discouraging. We see signs of improvement, but the rate shows something else. So we are continuing for the present with Dr. Dobbins and after a month or six weeks, we intend to have another test made to see if there is improvement. We will certainly continue to carry out your suggestions with all sincerity and abide by the results…”
R2. 2/17/40 EC’s letter to [2017]‘s father:
“Thank you for yours of the 14th. I am glad to hear there is at least an outward appearance of help for your daughter. Pardon me, but Mr. […], should not this be a sign, a proof to you that the help is of the Lord, and not mere man’s wisdom? I don’t want to give you false hopes, nor be a crier of peace when there is no peace, but as suggested in the information, keep close to the suggestions and the whole trust in the Goodness of God, and all healing must come from HIM.
“I have seen so many conditions just as this. For instance, when my wife was so ill with TB. She appeared better after a few weeks, yet the doctor said NO, the entire lung is blocked, but we believed and kept to the suggestion, and in a year the same doctor said he never examined a better pair of lungs. Also the boy, Hugh Lynn; I believe you have met him. When his eyes were burned the doctor said it was impossible for him to ever see. The first application eased the child, and when the lid sloughed off, the doctor said, ‘Why, the acid has destroyed the eye altogether.’ Yet, the boy insisted we keep on with the treatment and not turn back to the doctor, and in fifteen days the scale came away from his eyes, and he said ‘I see,’ and you possibly know he has two good eyes.
“So may it be for your daughter. God gives the help; ours but to keep in the way.
“I hope to be in New York next month and to have the opportunity to talk with you in person, and just hope you continue to see improvement with your daughter…”
R3. 3/31/40 [2017]‘s father’s letter to EC:
“I am very glad that you are coming to New York on April 8th. I am very anxious to see you, especially about the condition of my daughter, [2017]. Just now my mind is in a confusion as I do not know what steps to take. In your reading on October 5, 1939 you outlined your plan for me to follow. I followed your directions to the best of my ability. I took [2017] twice a week to Dr. Dobbins for osteopathic treatment, according to your suggestions On January 31, 1940, I took her to the medical center for a Basal Metabolism Test. The test showed a metabolism of plus 38, which the doctor considered very high. But I was thankful that I got your report the next day (reading of January 30) which said that conditions show improvement. I also noticed improvement in her condition. Dr. Dobbins was not satisfied but said that he wishes to go on with the treatment for another six weeks or two months, and have another metabolism test made. On March 25 I sent her to the medical center for another test. This time it was even worse, plus 48. Although there is a little question about this, and another test will be taken soon to verify it, Dr. Dobbins tells me that he has not been able to help much, and he says that if [2017] were his daughter, he would take her to a specialist for treatment. Yesterday, I went and saw a specialist in whom I have confidence. Although this man did not examine [2017], but from my description of the case he thinks that there is only one treatment for her. That is an OPERATION. I am opposed to operation, but if it is a last resort, I have no choice but to submit. Before I decide, I want your opinion, as I have followed it so far. I wonder if you could give me another reading while you are in New York, provided that it is not too expensive. We are spending so much on her that we cannot simply afford it. Please let me know what you want me to do in this case…”
“P.S. I wish to add that we felt that she was improving. The size of the goitre has certainly come down, and her mental attitude is much better. She is cheerful and more optimistic and it was a surprise to us to see such a high metabolism. That is why I feel confused and I do not know what to do about it.”
R4. 4/2/40 EC’s letter to [2017]‘s father:
“I have yours of the 31st, and can well understand your anxiety regarding your daughter’s condition, from what you say, you are told about the tests. Not being a physician, I wouldn’t know what to say about same, but evidently Dr. Dobbins is disturbed also, as well as those to whom you have talked. We have an appointment for a Check reading, Dr. […] for Wednesday morning, the 10th, as per the enclosed slip. If you would be at … that morning, we will undertake to include this in the Check reading list. Otherwise we would have to make a special appointment for a special reading.
“Certainly hope we may be of a real service in the matter. We will expect you the morning of the 10th unless you let me hear otherwise…”
R5. 4/6/40 [2017]‘s father’s letter to EC:
“Thank you for your letter of April 2nd regarding an appointment for my daughter, [2017], on Wednesday, April 10 at 10:30. I will be very glad to have that appointment for the Check reading, but unfortunately [2017] has had an appointment that same morning at the medical center for another metabolism test. The hospital is giving this extra test because after checking the results they found that her pulse and metabolism do not exactly check each other. I tried to change this appointment at the hospital, but I find that it will be hard to change. If it is possible to give another time for a Check reading, even if it is in the following week, I will appreciate it very much, because I do not wish to spend much money and make a special appointment for a special reading. If Wednesday is the only time you can give this reading, then I will have to cancel my appointment at the hospital and take this reading.
“Another thing; unfortunately I am on jury duty these days and I cannot come to Bronxville, but I will send Mrs. […] to see you. It is my understanding that [2017] stays home on that hour in a meditative mood, perhaps 10:30 to 11 o’clock, or whatever the appointment is. Is this correct…”
