GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [2071], N.Y. City, and the Life Reading that was given for this body on Sept. 8, 1927. You will answer the questions which I will ask you regarding same.
-
EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, and the information as was given regarding same. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Who is he of the turban, black mustache and pearls who appears to me frequently from another plane? (The young man who seems interested in me - or was at some previous time.) How can I (and would it be advisable) to promote that contact? (A) Well to promote that contact, and well that the body consciousness of the body, or entity, be attuned to those conditions that bring the contact for the entity. One with whom the body conscious in the cosmic plane accomplished much, and in the appearance before this associated in the better undertakings by the entity. Hence the entity, through such contact, gains the broader field of vision, and as the entity desires to assist self - and do same through the correct way and channel - seek that association that GIVES the broader vision.
-
(Q) I am a lover of beauty, and without vanity - would like to make myself more beautiful. How can I? (A) Through those same channels that the entity gained this understanding that beauty comes from within, rather than as an external condition - for the external fades, but that beauty of life, of individuality shining through that personality of self, gives the beauty that fades not - and as the warning was given respecting the understanding of self, and that to be accomplished through the efforts of self, these must radiate then from within.
As to the physical appearance, and the outward show of face and figure, necessary that these be modeled after that of the self’s ideal, that these may manifest that the body would radiate through its inner being. Accomplish this through that of self’s own application to BECOME that the body would make of self.
-
(Q) What is the cause of the friction between my husband, […], and myself? How can it be overcome? (A) Incompatibility - and this may NOT be overcome unless each would remove self from self’s own high estimation, for in humbleness of heart and in contrite spirit must each seek the good for the other to be as one, even as was given and promised by each.
-
(Q) Will I marry again, or what chance have I for real happiness in this direction? (A) If the body physical desires, and the body spiritual finds, and the body mental reasons, that this may be accomplished through the proper development for the self, the body may. Happiness - a state of mind, not of being - for the mind and the being are of different elements, and happiness - as sought as happiness - fades, as does the secular beauties of life. Happiness from within lives. Seek that satisfaction of self being at an at-oneness with that beauty of the creative energies for the benefit of others, and NOT of self.
-
(Q) How can I best promote the success of my business? especially the sale of my records and songs? (A) By putting that in same that merits the consideration of those seeking to gratify self through such business, or records, and in that the entity, the consciousness, the mind, will find success in business in a way and manner that passeth all understanding.

We are through for the present.

R1. 9/27/27 EC’s letter to [2071]:
[2071] New York City
Dear Mrs. [2071]
Yours of some days ago received. I think I wrote you in the first letter, Mrs. [2071] that I did not think the questions you asked would be answered in a Life Reading, but that they might be answered on questions ON a Life Reading. I am sorry you were disappointed in the information you received, and to show you that we were desirous of doing the right thing, and trying to help wherever it is possible, the questions were asked in reference TO the information GIVEN in the Life Reading. Consequently, you will see from the information enclosed that these are still answered with respect to the information already furnished - but I am in hopes that they will be more enlightening to you and that by the careful study of both of these you will be able to arrive at a conclusion that will make all of the information worth a great deal to you. I shall be anxious to know what your opinion is in the matter. This was gotten just as soon as we had the opportunity, and I feel - from the experience that others have had with such information - this will really be worth while, if you will study it out for yourself - for each one must arrive at that conclusion or consciousness that makes any knowledge applicable in the individual life.
Trusting that we may have been of service, and thanking you for your letter and assuring you of our desire to be of help if possible, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:GD]
R2. 11/13/29 She requested and was subsequently sent a copy of her Life Reading, 2071-1.
R3. 12/23/39 [2071]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear Mr. Cayce:
My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at the … last week and, of course, to those of us who know your work, no evening would be complete without some discussion of you.
The consensus of opinion seemed to be that I was in dire need of some advice and all present (including the […]‘s) felt that I should have an immediate business reading. I seem to have been surrounded with a great deal of confusion and uncertainty lately. Directional suggestions would be very welcome. I feel that I have made up for any transgressions in past experiences, for my way has been very difficult and I have by no means had the success some other artists enjoy
- and certainly no “lucky breaks”. There are several fields of endeavor in which I am seeking to earn a livelihood - even the […]‘s do not know how serious my financial problem is, for one does not always like one’s friends to know.
To be perfectly honest with you - I am a little tired of it all (that is, the constant striving for maintenance) and, while I do not say this in a spirit of fault-finding nor dissatisfaction, I would be thoroughly content to let someone else carry the burden for a while and relax in the natural atmosphere to which a woman is usually entitled - that is being supported. To put it frankly, neither of my husbands has supported me or contributed to my support (and, as a matter of fact, their own). I alone am to blame for letting it continue but I hesitate to tear my life apart to make changes while there are still some compensations in the marriage contract - such compensation, I might say, is strictly one of companionship as the sex element is at low ebb and, as I have indicated, there is no financial inducement. I do not like living alone (particularly in the country) and there are frequently occasions when I need to be escorted to places I am appearing, etc.
I have never been popular with men and may attribute this to one of several things - I live an exceedingly simple and prudent existence and do not enjoy carousing in which the world of today participates; secondly, the average man is not impressed favorably with my figure; and thirdly, to put it frankly, they go for women who are on the “dumb” side and also ones who indulge freely in liquor and the pastimes to which it leads. Please do not infer from this that I am a “goody-goody” for I try to be a good sport in every sense of the word when good sportsmanship is involved, but I simply do not care for a life of dissipation.
I have given you this background largely to help, if I can, although the forces, I suppose, already know all the existing conditions.
I am enclosing a set of questions which include my main interests at the moment - also a check for five dollars, which is all I can spare at the moment.
Anticipating your reply, and with Christmas blessings to you
- and your work,
Sincerely, [2071]
MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF COMPOSERS, AUTHORS & PUBLISHERS DIRECT QUESTIONS:
- What would be the most important move to make at this time?
- Should I remain in professional work? If so, in what branch?
- How can I further the publication of my songs?
- Will my present husband ever amount to anything, or do you see a change for the better in the future? If so, what moves should he make to bring this about?
- How can I make contacts to meet the right people? I am not aggressive and usually am brushed aside for the more aggressive types.
- Did I do right by moving out to my place in Connecticut?
- How can I reduce my blood pressure? (It is actually pulse pressure)
- Do you see a future romance in my life? Will there be either a husband or a companion who can appreciate my companionship, and who is intellectually and socially equipped to do so?
- My house if mortgaged to the hilt but having put considerable effort, as well as money, into it I am reluctant to part with it. However, my banker seems to think that it is advisable. I have listed it with realtors but my feeling at present is that I should not sell - that my place is here. Of course, the burden of debt is a very uncomfortable one but I shall make most any sacrifice in order to live within my means and income. If I were earning even a percentage of what I feel I should earn I could very easily clear up the mortgage as this house costs very little to maintain in taxes, etc. There is one room which needs very little work to change into a beautiful large living room. Inasmuch as we have moved here from New York we would like to convert this into a living room in order to accommodate my piano and the novachord which I expect to use in my work. However, there are two tiny bedrooms which would have to be used and we would need to add these elsewhere in the building. I should like to know what the Forces think best about this.
- Under present circumstances, what should I do about my house?

My dear Mr. Cayce:
Miss [2071] has given you what I believe to be a very frank and complete description of her present situation. However, I would like to add a few words to what she has already told you - believing it will help both you and her by so doing.
Naturally, she would be restricted in telling you some of the more flattering phases of her existence - and also she has neglected to ask you the questions which seems to torment her and come to her mind most frequently - that is, what IS it that is wrong with her life - what is the thing that is holding her back, and why is it that she remains in the sidelines now while others, with far less talent and capabilities, either in a musical, cultural, educational, business or entertainment standpoint, are riding the ladder of success and enjoying the fruits of what she has helped to establish and create. Even her ideas are taken from her before she has a chance to formulate them actually - she has “pioneered” many a song - an idea - a show - later to hear someone else make a hit out of material stolen from her. Will you PLEASE be kind enough (confidentially, if you wish) to tell me what is holding back - what this weight is that is holding her feet on the ground when she is meant to soar?
All of those who know her, hold her in high esteem and respect - she is much loved and admired not only for her talents, but her graciousness and charm - and her good heart, her helping hand, and her genuine sincerity and interest in the good of others. She is so much more highly evolved than the average run of person - it seems incredible that after years of hard work and intelligent appliance, she should not enjoy greater achievement. She is so tired - so discouraged sometimes. And yet, she always has a smile and an encouraging word to other in distress and seems to lead them upward. And yet her own life falls miserably apart - why?
I have been with Miss [2071] for five years and know her better than anyone else in the world - and, I dare say, love her more. I know her to be an angel - too good, I guess, to be smart. She is a creator of beauty in its every expression
- in music, in song, in grace - in the decoration of her home
- in dress - she is born to create. I am telling you these things so that you might have a more intimate glimpse of her. She refers to “figure” in her letter - she is quite large of stature and heavy in weight - has always been, and it has tended to give her sort of an inferiority complex which may explain some phases of her life. She has, however, a beautiful face and after one knows her only once, they quite forget her figure and are endeared to her lovely face and character.
Miss [2071] is very close to my heart and I would be so grateful to you for anything you may be able to do for her. She can “take it” like a trouper, so you can talk to her freely and if there is anything I can do to assist you in your plans, do not hesitate to call on me - I would deem it a privilege and a pleasure to help!
Respectfully […]
