This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of August, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self, Mrs. [2072], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them:
EC: Yes, we have the body here; [2072], this we have had before.
Ready for questions.
(Q) Should Myrrh and Olive Oil rubs with vibrator be continued? (A) These along the spine, and over the abdomen, should be continued.
(Q) Is the body ready for conception or would it be well for it, as well as its companion, to reach a greater physical normalcy? (A) Be well that this be deferred for at least another six months.
(Q) Would it be better to wait until we are living in our own home? (A) Not necessarily, but for another six months follow those suggestion and as may be given here.
(Q) What are those conditions which I must still attain to, physically, before undertaking motherhood? (A) The elimination of attitudes; and poisons, physically, from the system.
(Q) Would it be well to wait until the skin is completely cleared of blackheads? (A) Not necessarily. This may be attained. For the deep-seated conditions, the body would find it well to use the mud packs on face and neck - Bonicelli [?] [Boncilla Clasmic Pack?] - with the oil rubs, then, following same. These would be taken about every fifteen days, - or twice a month. We would find, we would eliminate the accumulations under the skin without bruising it, and bring a great deal better conditions for the body.
(Q) What would be a good normal weight for this body? (A) 118 to 126.
(Q) Can the body use larger quantities of nuts now, to advantage in gaining weight? (A) This depends on the character of the nuts, as of almonds, cashews, walnuts, hickory nuts, yes. No peanuts, for this body. Not too much of same, though the foods from these may be supplied in other ways. Hazelnuts, especially or filberts, these are especially good. The English walnut, no. Even some characters of some other nuts are not too good, but don’t overdo it, for we will supply too much of oils, that are not yet set up in the eliminating channels.
(Q) Would it be well to take a small quantity of olive oil daily? (A) Will be for most everyone, but well for this body.
(Q) Should additional salt be taken on hot days? (A) No.
(Q) Should any vitamin concentrates be taken? (A) Those as B-1 or B-1 complex pellets are very good for this body, but not necessarily, here, every day. Take them every day one week; next week, every other day. To be sure, it is indicated by the preparers that One-A-Day is good, but not for this body, especially with the diet being taken to increase the weight.
(Q) What causes tired feeling so soon after getting up? (A) The body gaining its equilibrium in the variation of circulation in lying prone and in being erect or walking. This is why there are the needs for the supplementing of the B-1 vitamins.
(Q) Would tiredness of heels be reduced by arch supports? (A) They would.
(Q) What is the matter when appetite and taste for food lags? (A) These are lack of the attitudes of the body.
(Q) I seem to feel less tired when I have a breakfast of fruits, nuts, and milk. Any suggestion or advice regarding this? (A) These are very good, but these are builded in the consciousness that pertains to other than that in the Oneness.
(Q) What has caused conspicuous artery markings at knee joints? This would not make for a tendency toward varicose veins, would it? (A) These are not necessarily. These forget, and they won’t bother you. Keep on remembering, and you might make them into varicose veins?
(Q) Would it be advisable for the body to use a brush for washing the face and neck? (A) A sponge, but not a brush.
(Q) Is it harmful for this body to use Tampax? (A) Not too much so. Depends on the manner in which these are used.
(Q) So much has been written about sexual relationships between husband and wife. Is it the correct understanding that this activity should be used only and when companions seek to build a body for an incoming entity? (A) Not necessarily. These depend, of course, to be sure, on the individual concept of relationships and their activities. To be sure, if the activities are used in creative, spiritual form, there is the less desire for carnal relationship; or, if there is the lack of use of constructive energies, then there is the desire for more of the carnal, physical reaction.

Dearest Eddie,

Just a note to hope that your trip home was comfortable and that you found it nice getting home [Va. Beach new Rescue Squad Ambulance brought EC from Roanoke; Dr. C. W. Irvin, D.O., Attending him].

When Gladys told me by phone (when we were in Norfolk Wednesday) that you were coming home late that same evening, I felt like standing out here on our corner and watching for you, and found myself watching out every window and door to see if you might be going by, after we arrived back home at 4:10 P.M. But perhaps you didn’t come by …, altho I believe you almost have to?

If either [1861] or I can do anything to be of any help to you, won’t you please let us know. We shall certainly try

if your are feeling up to a visit from us - to get down to see you the very next time we go for treatments - after the first of the year.

You mustn’t try to do anything even though you are home. We hope you can soon get off to Florida to spend the winter, and do PRAY you can get a doctor who will carry out the reading to a letter. It MUST be done! (I wish I were a doctor, I’d carry it out to the letter, “I betcha”.)

I was rather glad to hear from Gladys that Mrs. [1770] was making plans to come to Virginia Beach. You and I both think a good deal of her and I believe she can be of a good deal of help. A recent lovely note from [1771] seemed to say that she and [4053] were very happy.

Dearest [2072] and [1861]

We have been home now nearly a week tomorrow. I was really disappointed in not seeing you or [1861], as we came through …, for we stopped and had lunch there. In fact tried to call you at home but could get no response at all. I looked and looked hoping to be able to see you either on the street and get to chase you down or hear from you some way or another. So sorry you got the days mixed as to when we were coming through.

I think that I am doing fairly well. Be sure to come and see us when you are over this way and also let us hear from you.

Trust you are feeling well again and that [1861] is fine. Lots of love to each of you and a kiss for little Anna.

R4. 12/4/44 (Monday) [2072]‘s letter to EC:

Mrs. [2072] … Street …, Virginia

My dear Eddie,

You don’t know how disappointed we were when we read your letter and found we had missed seeing you and giving you dinner. How we wished we’d have known beforehand that you were coming home, but you see we didn’t know until we phoned Gladys from Norfolk the very day and probably just an hour or two before you stopped here in … on your way home. It would have been the nicest sort of a surprise, had we been home, for I would have heard the phone ring. Next time, please let us know a day ahead, if possible, of course, that you’re coming through here, for we don’t ever want to be so disappointed again - to know we could have seen you, for a few minutes at least, and here we were out of town. Mother was no little out-done too. She may have been out-of-doors working in the yard, or, she doesn’t hear the phone if she is upstairs since she is hard of hearing in her left ear.

We are all just as sorry, sorry as we can be. We didn’t get “the days mixed as to when you were coming through” as we didn’t know you were going home at all until we talked to Gladys about 9:45 A.M. on Thursday, November the 23rd, from Norfolk when we were getting treatments. And since Gladys said you were coming home that same EVENING, we only hoped there would a possibility that you might stop by any moment even after we got back home on the 4:10 P.M. train.

It’s all too, too bad! But we’re glad you made the trip so well and are getting along better. (We were so glad to have a card from Gladys this morning saying you were looking so much better and that she was giving you the Wet Cell Treatments and rubs each night) [See 294-212]. Now I know you’re on the right road back to recovery for you’re in the hands of the best nurse possible - Gladys - for no one would follow the readings more accurately or conscientiously.

I dreamed, Friday morning I believe it was, that you were very much better - your complexion and cheeks were pink and altho you seemed a little weak yet, I felt, when I woke, that the dream was either true now or was a dream of the future. The dream seemed encouraging to [1861] and I, when I told him about it, as we had been wondering considerably about how you would get the correct treatments there at the Beach.

As per Gladys’ card. I am sending her tomorrow a check as per Mrs. [5391]‘s and our desires. I received her card too late today to get to the bank.

Maybe you will be glad with me to know that St. Luke’s Episcopal Guild, an association of the girls of my own age of the Church, have asked me to be their Chaplain for the coming year and if I’m elected, tonight at the meeting, I shall believe it is one of the most excellent opportunities I have ever had. I believe it means I should use all I possibly can from “A Search for God” and the many other things you have given us. There is so much to be given without going into reincarnation, that I’m sure I can find much for quite a while. Are you glad with me? I’ll let you know from time to time what I do and how I come out, shall I? The meetings are only once a month, and one half hour only is given to devotionals.

R5. 1/5/45 (Friday night) [2072]‘s letter to GD:

Dearest Gladys,

We were so sorry to find that we had to “run” immediately [after] the service was over in order to catch the bus to make the train, hence did not get to talk to you again and reassure you that we will always be “on hand” if you but call or need something that we can do. Even more than ever we know that you, who have been closer to Mr. Cayce’s work than any other one person must be the very pivot around which the spokes MUST turn.

[1861] and I have a great big heart full of gratitude and love for you, but we know we are not alone in our feelings, for everyone loves you and no doubt have thanked the Father for you many many times just as we have.

Mr. Cayce has meant so much to [1861] and I - both of us seeking the same things and finding those things answered in him. The world - GOD has been good to us, indeed, for letting us have moments to listen, to walk and talk with, and to love such an one. How DEEPLY we know that.

Take our blessings and love and co-operation, then, in whatever you do for His and Mr. Cayce’s sake.

R6. 3/49 GD’s note: Mrs. [2072] told me that she was so disappointed that [1861] did not now want to have a child. She personally felt that she did not want to live unless she could have a child. I suggested adopting one, but she said certainly [1861] would not agree to that.

Application to cuts and burns.

Series of drop dosages (beginning with 1 drop 1st day, to 5 drops 5th day) twice a month.

(2) Variations: Dr. W. T. Bidwell [Wm. T. Bidwell, D.C.] recommended larger drop dosages when, by diagnosis, iodine fell very low in my system (below 50% of what it should have been) - 2 or 3 drops daily for 10 days, even to 5 drops 3 times a day when it fell to 30% of normal.

Results: Hastens healing of cuts and burns. When used in a series of 1 to 5 drops midway and just before the menstrual period it seems to keep my iodine nearer to 100% normal.

R9. 5/23/51 [2072]‘s letter to Gladys:

Dearest Gladys,

How are things with you these days? We miss your visits greatly and will be glad when war conditions and rooming shortages clears up so we can have those visits again.

Gladys, I need a bit of information. Have the names of any gynecologists ever been given through the readings - located in the vicinity of Richmond, Petersburg or Norfolk? or possibly in New York?

Following the reading suggestions or a recommended series of suppositories by Dr. Bidwell and Dr. Richardson for leukorrhea has not cleared up the condition as I had hoped, mostly because it is deeper seated. There is an erosion of the cervix. Has anything come through the readings on that?

I would be glad to have any information you can give me.

[1861] and I are considering going to New York to see if Dr. Dobbins and Dr. Erlanger can possibly help him some more. That is why I mention a N.Y. gynecologist. If we do this we may not be able to get to Congress this year, except that […] may try to get down on Saturday for the … We shall not be able to afford both N.Y. and treatments and Congress.

Have written to Dr. Dobbins at 196 Richmond Ave., Port Richmond 2, Staten Island, quite some time ago, but have not heard from him as yet. Is that his correct address?

R10. 5/31/51 GD’s letter to [2072]:

Dearest [2072]

Your letter sent me on a search through all the readings indexed on leukorrhea, the uterus, womb, pelvis, etc., etc., erosion, etc. I do not find a case of erosion of the cervix. There is one case of erosion of the hip bone, which called for the ultra-violet light over green glass, etc. There are dozens of readings indexed, though, and after going through most of them I’m full of questions I’d like to ask before extracting - no use to copy material unless it is parallel - might be more confusion than helpful. For instance, is the flesh raw and irritated? If so, there are several cases giving salves and healing lotions where the skin was irritated and would not heal; also a Plantain tea was suggested to be taken internally, as well as the Plantain salve externally. I’m just at a loss to know what to send. Wish you could come down and go over all these yourself and pick out what you feel to be parallel with your symptoms. Couldn’t you do that? I’d spend as much time with you as you have while here to get out everything possible for you to study.

Now, about the gynecologist. I don’t know anyone in Richmond or Petersburg, though I’m sure there must be good ones. A Dr. C. J. Andrews in Norfolk was recommended in two or three readings. I understand he died a year or so ago but that his son, a Dr. C. J. Andrews, Jr., is taking his place.

In Philadelphia a Dr. Wayne Babcock at Temple University Hospital was suggested in the readings several times; he’s been very cooperative in furnishing us with reports, too - just had one the other day on a case of breast tumor which the reading sent to him suggesting injections of certain hormones. He followed the reading and the tumor was dissolved - has not returned to this day. He’s the one, you know, who operated on [257] and later Mrs. [264] - as per reading’s suggestion.

Re: Dr. Dobbins in New York - he is back in the Army again

that’s why you haven’t heard from him, probably. You may hear, referring you to another osteopath. However, we are now referring people to a Dr. Louis Perkal, osteopath, 152 West 58th St., NYC., who is very interested in following the readings.

I suppose you have tried the alternation of Glyco-Thymoline and Atomidine douches. Did the erosion start from using too abrasive a suppository, too astringent, I mean? I saw several warnings in that direction. Sometimes the stress was put on clearing the general organs rather than concentrating on the vagina itself, when there was irritation. However, in several instances where the vagina was inflamed and almost raw, the use of the violet ray vaginal applicator was suggested. I can’t help but feel that you could find a treatment parallel to your case - I’d certainly like to see you try it before submitting to a gynecologist or a too specialized doctor to consider the whole general system.

Please let me know whether you think you can come, or answer these questions so I can concentrate on the pertinent material. Love and blessings on you both.

R11. 6/3/51 (Sunday) [2072]‘s letter to GD:

Dearest Gladys,

Many thanks for your letter and inclosed information. Should like to get down and look over the information you could pull out for me, but do not know whether I can until the latter part of Congress week and possibly not then. So, I’ll give you a few more symptoms and signs which may be helpful in locating something and then explain why we are uncertain yet as to whether we’ll get down to Congress or not.

The erosion seems to be at the cervix and apparently up into the cavity above, hence suppositories do not treat or reach the cavity, you see. It must be of rather long-standing and not caused by suppositories or douches as I never used them until recently to treat the condition. Dr. Bidwell found my intestines and lower organs sagging when he treated me, and after the removal of the adhesions had me wear a corset until I could strengthen abdominal muscles with exercise. He found “a slight erosion” of the cervix, then, and had me use some mild, harmless suppositories (vegetable compound) and douches with table salt and some with a natural mineral ferrous (iron) solution. recently I have used the series of Vioform suppositories which is the treatment commonly used for leucorrhea by doctors today and was suggested both by Dr. Richardson and Dr. Bidwell. These seemed to have no effect, because the condition seems to be in the cavity above the cervix which douches and suppositories do not reach.

I did try the Atomidine and Glyco-Thymoline douches and continue to use them, but they can only clean out the vagina. Again they do not reach into the cavity.

This condition may have begun back when the organs were out of place by friction and pressure one might assume, or by not knowing about the cleansing of this orifice (from lack of a mother’s or adult’s advice). Then, since we know the mental and spiritual build the physical and the emotions cause conditions in the body, the disappointment of un-normal marriage relations and [1861]‘s desire not to have a child [We thought possibly [1861] was fearful economically because of his blindness, also afraid of possible karmic condition with child] may have settled to an inflammation and irritation here. With a reading from Rev. Argoe [Glen Argoe, psychic medium?] I have been able to overcome the disappointment and adjust my mental and spiritual thinking and keep my mind more constructive and forget and forgive and concentrate more upon the day and the best performance of the duties thereof, leaving all in His Hands.

Now, as to symptoms: I think the vagina is somewhat inflamed and the cervix may be raw, more within the cavity than at the mouth, although not that it gives me any pain. The cervix is quite hard and not softish and normal - Dr. Bidwell said. There is no itching inwardly or outwardly. There is an extreme dryness of the mouth and throat at night and of the eyes, during the day, especially from continued eye-work, reading, when going shopping in the big cities, in a room where people are smoking. There is a tendency toward headaches with this dryness and neuralgic ache from the base of the skull around up to the temples, and sinuses, the eyes and the teeth. Almost always more of a tendency to headache near the beginning of the monthly period, especially if I lift something, hoe, rush about to accomplish something.

Gladys, I notice from a weekly extract (Oct. 1, 1948) from one of Mrs. [538]‘s readings the use of the Violet Ray, Permanganate of Potash, sitz baths with Myrrh and Balsam of Tolu. Do you remember her condition?

One other thing, the use of milk, cottage cheese, buttermilk, swiss cheese, calcium tablets, pistachio nuts seem to increase the discharge and I have cut down on them to be freer of this, but then when Dr. Bidwell checks me up my Calcium falls way low.

I don’t believe we’ll go to N.Y. for the other osteopath, but will have to wait for Dr. Dobbins return. Let us know whenever you hear of it, will you?

On our horizon appears the possibility of building, and if it can be done within an amount Mother can finance, we may have to save our every penny this year in order to attend to all the extras there will be. Mother is very anxious for us to build now, because it doesn’t look as if things are going to get any better for years and will possibly become much worse before this country is out of the muddle and mass it’s in. She says she wants to see us in our own home before she has gone on [GD’s note: Mrs. [2072]‘s mother-in-law lived 3 years longer than [2072] did], because we’ll have that much anyway if harder times come and money becomes more and more de-valued. We are considering the lot back of this house which is Mother’s. Have my plan ready now to get some bids on it. Hope and pray for us (you and Lydia [Lydia J. Schrader Gray]) that it can do done now.

This latter makes for part of our uncertainty for attending Congress, however [1861] will come for the … so far as we know and I may come with him for a day or two. I’ll have to wait and see how things shape up.

You might mention our uncertainty to Hugh Lynn, as he had spoken to Johann [Johan Franco] about some music possibilities. It would be impossible to carry any records down there from here anyway - they are too heavy and too easily broken to try to take on the train.

According to the catalogue there are three types of vaginal violet ray electrodes and I am at a loss to know which one to order. One is a plain tube which looks as though it might be for vaginal treatment, one is “without perforations” and one is “with perforations so that ozone may be generated within the vagina. I have written the company in St. Louis telling them it was needed for erosion of cervix and cavity and leukorrhea, hoping they would know which one to send.

R13. 4/28/57 [2072]‘s letter to Miss Mary Ann Woodard [author of 12/46 A.R.E. Bulletin, “Beneficent Influence of Gems and Stones”]:

Dear Miss Woodard:

How I wish my time at the Beach could have been longer! It would have been nice to have talked with you, but perhaps we shall have a greater opportunity in the future.

Regarding the “Tuaoi stone”: It does not seem to be a gem, in the sense of something to be worn or for ornamental purposes, but rather must have been a very large block of crystal used in the Atlantean sacred temple.

In March of 1942 Mr. Cayce gave me a reading for an “Aura Chart”, so called because it was a description of the life experience in signs and symbols that could be drawn by an artist into a chart. The Tuaoi stone was first mentioned there as a symbol of my Atlantean incarnation:

“For this entity, then, - in the center upon a board or paper, - we would begin with the stone as the light of the activities in the temple in the Atlantean-Poseidian era. This might be termed the Tuaoi stone - T-u-a-o-i. This would be a six-facet stone of the height, as to proportion, with the rest of the chart as may be indicated. The stone of the Tuaoi would be opalescent, while the light would be indicated form the top in the rays of the white light…”, etc.

This, of course, was what prompted me to ask in July of 1942, “What was the Tuaoi stone? Of what shape or form was it?” and the reply was given: “It was in the form of a six-sided figure, in which the light appeared as the means of communication between infinity and the finite: of the means whereby there were the communications with those forces form the outside. Later this came to mean that from which the energies radiated, as of the center form which there were the radial activities guiding the forms of transition or travel through those periods of activity of the Atlanteans. It was set as a crystal - and in the beginning was the source - or manner by which the powers that be made the centralization for making known to the children of men, and children of God, the directing forces or powers…”, etc.

A description of what was called the “Maxin”, or Divine Light, is given beginning on page 136 of the book “A Dweller on Two Planets” by Phylos which bears certain correspondences and similarities. (I cannot exactly quote a Cayce reading which indicated that “Dweller on Two Planets” might well be studied for a knowledge of Atlantis [364-1?].) Therefore the following description could add somewhat to the understanding, when related:

The great temple of Incal, called the Incalithlon was shaped like the Egyptian pyramid of Cheops. Within this, and in the most sacred place, was the Maxin. On a raised, triangular platform of red granite, several inches higher than the floor of the auditorium, and thirty-six feet between its points. In the very center of it was A LARGE BLOCK OF CRYSTAL QUARTZ, UPON THE PERFECT CUBE of which rose the Maxin, or Divine Light, a flame of light like a giant spearhead, of unwavering white glow. The great cube of quartz was five and a half feet on all sides. From platform to tip of flame, its height must have been over three times the height of a tall man. The flame made no heat, did not warm the quartz pedestal, was fatal to anyone who touched it; no oil, no fuel, no electric currents fed it; no man tended it. The story of its beginning is given as though it was brought into being by one who was the Son of God.

To go back, then, to my first life reading: “The entity then (in Atlantis) was among the princesses, being of the children of the Law of One, - and one through whom much of counsel and direction was obtained, through the very high spiritual development of the entity and the remaining true to to the law of the children of One…”, etc.

Hence the Tuaoi stone became a symbol of that incarnation because I was one of the children of the Law of One, and remained true to the law represented by the stone. The Aura reading indicated I was active in the temple.

Do read “Dweller on Two Planets” if you have not. Much more is given in description not only of the stone, but of Atlantis and many other things of interest of those interested in Cayce readings.

As to your questions regarding the lapis lazuli: Both my husband and I have oval stones which we obtained from Mr. Greene [Mr. Stephen N. Green, Gem Village, Bayfield, Colorado]. I sleep with mine inside my pillow case, under my pillow. There are times when I have thought I heard it singing, but apparently the “singing” is within my ear or myself for I have heard it other then when the stone is near me. For awhile we both taped the stone over our foreheads at night, but had no outstanding experiences of any center’s activity being heightened. Rather, we find the psychic faculties sharpened only and when we study, meditate, and keep our trust and mind turned to Christ and God.

I hope the above will be of some help. I am so glad to have glimpsed you at the Association; it helps so much to be able to put some definitive picture with a name one has known for a long time. I hope you are finding a great deal of interesting material on stones and gems and will give us again some of the results of that accumulated by you.

R14. GD’s note: In September, husband, [1861] implored HLC to reason and counsel with [2072]; she had for some time now been hearing a “voice” [See warning given in 2072-8]. All her household and outside activities had been given up so that she could retire to her room most of the time and “listen” for the voice’s guidance. The “voice” encouraged her to believe that she was going to immaculately conceive a child that would be a spiritual leader akin to Edgar Cayce and the Christ. Mr. [1861] thought this opening of the psychic centers had been “triggered” by a week-end guest who had started [2072] on working the Ouija Board.

Dear Hugh Lynn:

I left so hastily Friday morning I failed to say good-bye, and to thank many of those who had been so kind and warm and loving. As I left headquarters there was still a little uncertainty as to whether to stay and I really waited the outcome of the treatment from Dr. Wakefield.

I will write to Gladys and Al separately, but please tell Katherine especially, that I had fully intended to attend to my soiled things and resheet the bed for her, but for the above uncertainty.

Esther Norde must be some sort of an angel. Her food was so delicious and gave me the vacation from cooking I had so long wanted, and needed, I guess. I hope she has fully recovered from her fall. Then with Katherine’s [Catherine Patterson] wonderful help on Friday - well, there’s something so warm and comforting about the Association and everyone there!

I returned home without paying my room rent, so [1861] and I are including this amount with a little thank offering to the Association, since this is the way you desired it.

Words cannot express my gratitude to you for all of the time you gave me. And I am most grateful for the prayers that have gone up for me. I have been fully aware of their strength and help on many occasions.

R16. 10/23/57 [2072]‘s letter to HLC:

Knowing the conference has required much of your time and attention I have delayed writing you about my personal experiences. I hope the Conference brought many interesting developments and that it gave much satisfaction to both you at the Association and those who attended.

I am really very much on the up and up and feeling stronger and better every day with a good appetite, a sense of humor and a feeling that everything is alright. I am finding a very pleasant new sense of balance coming out of the confusion, tension and even the fears and doubts I assumed to be realities at times. I am at last able to realize that the will of the individual can be made to command any wrong force and the Father is one with us as we direct calmness and quietness over the body. This realization and relaxation by normalizing the breathing have been my greatest help.

I have found that one cause of my tensions was a tendency to press my tongue too heavily against the roof of my mouth and close my lips too firmly during sleep and during the day. This tension of my tongue produces body tension that in turn produces dreams and wrong direction of emotions and thought. When I let my tongue relax I can gain control and direct quietness over my body (odd little discovery which kept coming through to me and has been a wonderful source of help!). Getting the body in the most relaxed position, either lying down or sitting, with both feet on the floor, helps me.

These and the effort to relax by normalizing the breathing have been my greatest “balancing factors” with, of course, the measures of relaxing warmth which I already wrote about.

I am ever grateful for your time spend in endeavoring to help me. Loving regards to you and the rest of those who were so kind, and to Sally and the boys.

R17. 11/20/57 [2072]‘s letter to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn,

Thank you for the enclosed material. I have copied the portions that I want and am returning it herewith. This will be of much help to me. As I said, it is affirmation of certain truths from the readings that has helped me so much. Asserting my will and reasoning with the help of the reading information and, yes, even some of the “voices” (as those who told me to “reject all voices”) have helped me and I am so thankful.

Dr. Turman [B. D. Turman, D.O.] said there was a rotation at the 9th dorsal and a slight rotation, he thought, at the 4th lumbar. I cannot tell whether he has made satisfactory adjustment for there is still soreness in several places along the spine.

I believe you will find the enclosed article from May Coronet most interesting. I did, for it explained very adequately to me certain of the physiological conditions and changes which accompanied many of the phenomena in the varied experiences. Exhaustion and strain and stress built up fears, the adrenals became over-active, tremendous gas formed in the intestines, pressures against the heart built more fears, which built up repeatedly UNTIL I began to calm myself by affirmations of the presence, quiet and peace of God. This, Dr. Selye explains, as the pituitary sending counteracting hormones to help balance the system. This condition of fear, which is most unusual to me normally, built up to such an extent that I began to wonder if something were wrong with my heart or some organ in my body, so I went to a local doctor for an examination. I was surprised to find my blood count nearly normal, slight anemia but nothing serious, and my physical body apparently alright except that the stethoscope showed some obstruction in the lower left lung. So - physical causes may be somewhat to blame. Certain foods which have not upset me before seem to be conducive to recurrences of gasses, pressures, imbalance in one way or another. Turnip and other greens, cabbage, cauliflower, black eye peas, avocado are among the offenders. A tendency to over-alkalinity is bad it seems. Well, so much for observations.

I would appreciate it if you would return the Coronet article to me when you have finished with it. If Dr. Selye’s book ever comes to your library shelves, I would like to read it. I believe it can be of tremendous value to you in your book.

Please send me anything you think will be of any help in understanding this “thing”. I find I am able to do “Recall” of the experiences without mental stress, and feel that I need to do this little by little to help me try to analyze and conquer it. I’m just amazed at what was cooked up in three months!

You know, of course, that the readings indicate glandular disturbance in all psychic matters. I’m returning the article with this letter. Thank you, too, for sending the extracts. We’ll be sending you items from time to time which may be of help.

R19. 12/29/57 Husband’s letter:

Dear Hugh Lynn:

In sending in Association membership does for [2072] and me for the coming year, I want to take this opportunity to express to you my deep appreciation for the assistance you gave at a time when it was so much needed.

I think we can find in [2072]‘s very trying experience a warning that cannot be reiterated too often, and that is, that no matter how much knowledge may obtain of things psychic, he can be made to forget certain important dangers by those entities that can take one over. Both [2072] and I heard your father warn of these things in the last SS Lesson we heard him teach in 1944 and I was going under the assumption that [1861] remembered this and other such things when I let her go as far as she did with it.

She says now that she did not know that entities masquerade under false names, even to using the Christ and that she thought she was being cruel to them if she tried to cast them out, as I was trying to make her do. However, after she returned from the Beach, I was finally able to prove to her by scriptural and references to certain of the Readings that she had to try the spirits and find out whether they were true or false by making them profess that Christ dwelt on earth in the flesh, etc. When she finally saw what I was driving at, she began putting this into practise and has now returned to her normal self and I don’t think is being bothered by these things. On several occasions, such false entities have tried to take me over, but I have always been able to protect myself against them and I certainly thought [2072] could do the same. In a way, the whole thing seems quite simple, but people don’t always comprehend or receive the simple teachings of the true Christ and other great spiritual teachers, such as your father, as you well know. If I can leave the …, I hope to get down to the …, but it is hard to get away since we have had to reduce our staff to the very bone to stay in business. If and when I do get down there, I would like very much to discuss in more detail [2072]‘s case, as we both might profit by an exchange of views and experiences along these lines.

R20. 1/7/58 (Tuesday Night) [2072]‘s letter to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn,

Tonight I am working with the thought of making my conscious mind concentrate on outer things because the subconscious mind has done nothing so far but mix things up in a scramble or mess and cannot be relied upon as a guide at this point. It catches me off-guard and pumps all sort of fantastic thought into my mind. Funny thing is that it has a double aspect and goes along on constructive, creative spiritual ideas for a while and then suddenly startles me with an exactly opposite idea related to fear, particularly at night, and persists in endeavoring to make me listen - listen - listen. I have never been subject to fear before, but this “thing” really pours them on. The other night I was sitting here at the desk reading when suddenly it switched the subject to showing me how it could control my heart beat and kept on beating it to a panicky stage. I countered it with thoughts that it couldn’t stifle me, that I had things to do, and called it absurd that anything could control my conscious desires or will. Of course, this pattern continued somewhat, and Sunday was full of despair, apprehension, and the restless feeling at the base of the spine. Then, the next “trick” out of the bag was anxiety about the increasing number of ticks and cracks and snaps throughout the house. It has always had some which I have considered to be normal from expansion and contraction of timbers and heat ducts, but when things got to “ticking” so frequently and then [1861] and I both heard this large explosive-like falling sound in our area out here beyond the big window two nights in a row and one big snap in our living room above the book shelves Sunday morning I became apprehensive that I was taking on some Poltergeists or something. I kept explaining them away to [1861, as snaps due to settling or weather, and feared worrying him with the thoughts and apprehensions of what I thought them to be. Then, I’ve been continuously hearing them today, and yet I see and say to myself “they haven’t done me any harm, so why fear them?”

Tonight I came upon something in an article, “Science Looks at Life after Death” by Dr. J. B. Rhine in the December 8th American Weekly from a Philadelphia paper that made me aware of a thought I had been turning over in my mind - “it could be that the person who sees the apparition builds it up and hallucinates or PROJECTS it ‘out there’ mentally.” And suddenly, as I undertook to write these facts down, I began to think of my experience in this light: that I am, or must be, worshipping a God of Fear and literally going through the experience of Job. I do hope the struggle is near an end.

I do hope you got home without slipping, and I am so glad you called before coming farther. I do not know how the roads are out tonight, but it certainly wasn’t advisable travelling them without skid chains. I will call you if I need you.

There is one experience that bothers me rather curiously, that I would like to overcome and I had hoped that through hypnosis and guided direction I might be able to overcome it, as the barrier it seems to have become, to something of development that should be taking place if the fear didn’t exist. Occasionally at the near sleep stage I have the sensation of the upward movement of the love force accompanied by light, but as it rises toward the head it startles me and wakens me because I fear the consequences with all these peculiar things happening in my mind at present.

I remember how your father spoke of going through various planes - the ethereal, first, I believe, when he gave the readings. Hence the wondering if it might not be possible to free the mind of its fear of this through suggestion, then direct the bodies breathing in the proper manner, etc. What would you think?

We are enclosing a check for $5.00 to reimburse for expenses of phone calls, gas. Thank you, and I really know the prayers will be beneficial. I think I shall go on and have the wisdom tooth extracted this Friday if I feel up to it.

I’m, much, much better now, thank you.

Fear of fear was pretty much the thing that has involved and entangled me in my own wrong thoughts.

Shall probably have much experience from this that I can relate and use. Just how applicable the little book, “Search for God,” has been, and all the association has meant, cannot be described right now. I’ll be able to tell you later.

Thanks a million. See you before long. Tooth out tomorrow, I believe, if my throat doesn’t develop into a cold.

At this point, just wanted you to know where I stood and that I believe I have an understanding now.

Dear [2072]

I have your letters of January 7 and 9. So happy to know that you are feeling better.

You know what is happening to you, as I explained to you before, is that because of the strain and shock you have passed through, the attempts you have made at communications, and the disturbance of your own glands perhaps because of menopause; you are like a radio that’s turned on and that can’t be turned off. Sometimes you pick up good music, and other times you pick up considerable static. This is very annoying, but it will gradually pass as you maintain your balance and sense of humor.

In such situations I think people are frequently driven to much worse conditions because of the fear and outside pressure that is applied, and the failure to recognize exactly what is happening in such cases. By no means is all of this coming from the outside - you are picking things out of your own unconscious which could be out of past-life experiences or out of the depths of your childhood memory. All of this comes shooting through like picture or like music that you can’t turn off.

You should not be afraid. I know this is easy to say and very hard to hold to, but there is no room here for fear. As you say, it only makes everything worse.

The prayer groups are holding you constantly now in daily prayer, and I am sure that you will find a great deal of protection and a gradual closing of these centers through which the disturbances are coming.

At the first opportunity do come down, or if the weather clears perhaps I can run up there and get you.

As I have told you on the phone, I am up to my ears here getting ready for conferences in the Southwest and our spring conferences on the West Coast. Do keep me posted and call me at any time you feel there is a need.

R23. 2/11/58 [2072]‘s letter:

Peggy LeGrand told me she had written you about her messages and the idea for a school. I have not read all of this material, and am anxious to know what you may think or see in what she has written you. Is there, to you, the possibility that she may have kept her messages on a higher or more reasonable plane, but that his information is coming from her HIGHER self? She is a widely read person, a student of Arcane School and much of her poetry comes through her, as it were, almost in a complete form. She has a wonderful ability for reading poetry to others with a rhythm and intonation that gives it interest and meaning and feeling. She has given poetry readings in the Hopewell schools that have thrilled the children and has been sought after again and again for this.

As I said, I still have a voice with me which I should like to be rid of and be my normal self again (without such). When it comes in, I either cut it off by turning my thoughts to some thought of my own or by saying affirmations, as, “Peace!”, or “There is only room for God and Peace here”. It is with me all the time; memory of it, or consciousness of it, brings a comment from it. It says it has been ALL the voices and now condenses itself to two attitudes: one of helpfulness, and one that has annoyed me with fears. I look upon it as undependable in any way whatsoever, and endeavor to cut up and destroy any sentences it starts. I call upon the thought of the presence of the Christ and use that to destroy the silly fears it promulgates. But I am just tired of having another voice in me! The fears have diminished now, because I look upon them as idle attempts to keep me distraught (to keep my attention?) and I can and do keep them away by concentrating upon ideals of what I want my body and mind and spirit to be and do. Neither analyzing or memory of the past are good, for it makes me dwell upon the past happenings and want to find the answers why. Business and forgetfulness are more helpful and any comments from the voice are not allowed to develop to anything but trifles. That is why I should like for the prayers to continue until I am rid of this thing, this time.

I leave on Monday for our Southwest conferences and will be back in the early part of March. I will be here then through March before going the latter part of the first week in April for the conferences in California.

Since things seem to be going reasonably smoothly with you at this time, I’ll plan to visit with you in March when I return.

I have heard from Peggy LeGrand and have had to postpone any serious consideration of the ideas in her writings until March. When you write or talk with her, please explain my situation.

As you and [1861] know, we have for a long time, considered the development of a school here in Virginia Beach in connection with the Association work. It would carry on experiments and testing of ideas from the readings and at the same time point toward the kind of development of psychic ability which we all feel can be helpful.

The ideas for such a school go way back in the history of the readings to the long series of readings which we had on Atlantic University. So much of the material which she presents seems to be coming out of this same general area. It’s a most interesting batch of material, and I am looking forward to going into it in detail. Please tell her this, because not having been in direct touch with her, for some time, it’s difficult for me to explain the pressure of circumstances here when thinking about a matter so important as this school idea.

R26. 6/14/58 [2072]‘s letter to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn,

I hope you have had a pleasant, fruitful and satisfactory trip. Hope Sally and boys are well.

I am planning on attending Congress ([1861] will not be able to attend, much to my disappointment) and would like to see and talk with you soon after I get down there Saturday or Sunday (Leave here Sunday 2:42 P.M. Train. If bus connection at station should get to ARE about 6:30 or so - unless I can locate someone from here who’s going to the Beach for the weekend, or something) to get any remaining details of this voice thing out of the way, then try to forget it for the rest of the week and ENJOY Congress. I’ve tried everything I know to get rid of this “voice”, Hugh Lynn, but the “voice” is still annoying me and I’m awfully, awfully tired of it. While I can keep it from speaking by repetition of words and affirmations, by conversing with others, by listening and concentrating on others talking, it edges in by injecting itself in countless ways so that it is with me everywhere and I must continually struggle to have a measure of relief from it.

In the endeavor to understand the why and wherefore of it and to analyze it and remove it, and , because of long-standing association now, it has involved and entangled its voice with many of my thoughts. I have, through sheer determination and will, not to be shaken from God’s ever- present help, been able to master and subside the fear engendered by the noises, physical body manifestation (as heart palpitation, etc.) by regarding them as ridiculous, disgusting, absurd because not worthy of my consideration since I am a child of God!

Several things still stand out to date: (1) The injection of cuss words and words I do not wish in my vocabulary, since they are not mine but mannish in character, as “s.o.b.”, “damn”, “hell”, “sam hill”, “what the mischief”, etc. This irks me no end not to be able to think or be thought-free of such nonsense! I try every means to disregard all this but who could help but be inwardly upset by the increasing repetition and use of one’s mind for such useless ugliness. I must have my mind for better things! (2) I take my thoughts higher and endeavor to concentrate upon Love, Goodness, Beauty of God and in the world, and since I cannot keep my thoughts always upon these but must return to mundane thoughts and activities, “it” seeks then to taunt and annoy me every way possible. (3) Always there is the attempt to edge in by voice, one way or another to gain its end (whatever that may be!) - by agreeing with me sometimes, appearing humorous, teasing, taking one role after another, as of teacher, devil, sailor, sub-conscious mind - ANYTHING TO GAIN AND KEEP MY ATTENTION.

I’ve endeavored to remove it by considering it to be a mere figment or child of my own creative mind; as a releasing of possible repressions, suppressions, consciences (as you suggested it might be); as a persecution complex. I’ve tried to replace it with the highest thoughts, with love, by surrounding myself with the white Christ light, by prayer, by meditation. Eloise tried exorcism when here two weeks ago. I’ve tried, and continue to try, to have nothing to do with its mental meanderings by using “not acceptable”, “Thou shalt not abuse”, trying to keep tuned to Silence only or keep the thought “To thine own self be true”. I’ve gotten mad and incensed and commanded “Get out” or applied a mental violet flame in determination.

I’ve had a reading from Zoe [Zoe Nickerson] (see enclosed, please return) and tried accepting it as something for soul growth as she suggests, and as I have been led to believe

from the Readings, Bible and other sources - could be the case, but its apparent endeavor to encompass this thought to sustain its existence I cannot accept as truth or right without getting out on all the limbs again.

Endeavoring to correct its point of view or thinking does no good whatsoever, for it will not accept or remember. It will go along if it can gain my attention thereby and keep talking, but I have been burned again and again by trying that, so many times that I only do myself and God an injustice by trying.

Often I start a mental sentence or thought and it contrives to finish it its own way, hence my repetitious use of affirmations to keep it from talking.

I’ve tried and continue to try self-suggestion. I have tried to be rid of it for as much as a day to no avail. Some days are worse than others.

I have lost all fear of this thing though it be the Devil himself, for my faith in God is stronger than it has ever been, and this thing has my contempt, but I do not like the propensities of continual inane chatter, or, having to continually talk to myself. From the time of its coming in it has endeavored, I see now, to trap me, by alternately first gaining my confidence and my innocent acceptation and faith, then turned these to its own devious ends.

I go along struggling by myself to conquer it, endeavoring to find the solution within and from God, but, by time elapse it seems to ever seek to “fix” itself more firmly. This is what is so disconcerting, so makes me wonder if it is wise to keep to myself its maneuverings or whether to seek outer assistance.

An article (book condensation) of Madame David-Neal’s book “Magic and Mystery in Tibet” in the July Fate Magazine brings up the creation of thought forms and how she created, herself, a form which turned upon her to taunt. I haven’t read it because it doesn’t tell how she destroyed it, but [1861] indicated that I might have done something of the same sort - I wonder?

We have a tape recorder now - a Wallensak 1500. It weighs only 18# and has been quite a delight to us. Will be getting some of your tapes before long. By running things back through our Motorola phonograph speaker and amplifier we get wonderful natural tone.

Please give Gladys the enclosed … And please send me a Congress schedule. It isn’t like me to destroy it, but I have looked everywhere for the one we received some time ago, but am unable to locate it.

Q. You are studying the entity known in the present physical incarnation as /255/. This entity asks information concerning what has happened in recent months to it. I will not clarify the question any further and will ask that you gather the necessary information in answer to the question - from the necessary source. What has happened to this entity? When you have gathered all the necessary information please present it.

A. We have already gathered all the information in a panoramic life sweep, must go back and pick up the pieces carefully and slowly, which might pertain to the causes or reasons for the forgetfulness, the mistakes, the confusion, the wrongdoings that have occurred in the last few months, all being effects of a psychological problem created by a quickening of the awareness and having also a great deal to do with the location of this entity. That is all.

Q. Are you to gather more information or are you to receive a specific question now?

A. Receive a question.

Q. The entity asks if she is being possessed?

A. We must receive all the questions at one time.

A. Now we must line up all the questions with the answers already received.

Q. When you are ready, resume speaking.

A. It is necessary, in this particular case, to very carefully eliminate every phase of the problem. Let us begin by making this statement - that man himself has woven an infinite tapestry of explanations for all phenomena, both physical and beyond the physical senses. In this case, it is also indicated that a clarification is needed of what is meant by inside and outside influence. First let us say that the spirit of man is his mental body, his thoughts. God’s thought can be defined as the “angels”, God-thought of man as “angels” but man was the result. This showing that our inner thoughts are not always manifested as purely in the physical as they are within our spirit or soul. Inside influence can therefore be but our own thoughts form our subconscious or the widespread of the Id. Outside influence can be the strong thoughts of others impinging on a weaker will than those which sent forth the thoughts originally, be they incarnate or discarnate. Therefore, this entity must understand that spirit is mind in order that a clear picture may be given as to the inner mind, the conscious mind, and the mind-thoughts of others which can influence those weaker than the source.

Now, this entity has been recently exposed to a new experience caused by an opening or an widening of the awareness without sufficient background its meaning or complete understanding. It is as though the entity had looked into a mirror for the first time, not knowing that man had limited the reflection by painting the back side of the glass. Therefore, the material that this entity has encountered comes but from man and all men are limited to a certain degree in their vision their perspective, each one of us having different levels. The entity here, itself, could put down in words of its experiences and someone else could be influenced by these words which are limited by this person’s understanding - the entity in question. See, then, how the influence can go on down the line. When this is realized the entity will stop and sift that which it receives for its good only, for man was put into the flesh in order to learn how to decide between good and evil. Another point that must be brought about at this time is that evil is a NECESSITY to understand good. The comparison of the two leads to the right choice, for good by virtue of itself must triumph over the evil.

As to there being an entity known as the Devil, perhaps this can be clarified by a linguistic analyzation going back to the ancient language of which Latin became the root of all present languages. “D” - “of Evil”…”Devil” is only “that” of Evil…no personification whatsoever was intended but man has made it so. Man has made personification of many words and thoughts by his own IMAGE-nation. We will wait for the rest to catch up with us…

…As to the question in the mind of this entity as to the source of this disturbance and the disbelief that it comes from the knowledge either conscious or unconscious, this matter can be explained through memories of its continuity of life. Other experiences of which it has no conscious relationship, yet are buried deep in the subconscious - the same as in the dream life of which we retain very little, and yet that experience is with us and can come back to us in foreign language at any time…we mean in terms that we would not recognize as being our own. This also has another meaning which we will go into later.

As to the question of possession - no two things equal can occupy the same space at the same time. If this were a question of possession, you would not be aware of the difference in personality - your own being completely displaced to allow for the other. As you remember, you are still in full possession of your own being but these thought forms are strong enough to make their impression upon you and cause the confusion. These being, once again, from you subconscious primarily and because of a weakened will other outside thoughts are impinging themselves upon you, likewise because of the increased awareness. This is merely a step forward in your development but you are not fighting of the evil, you are crying because of it. It is up to you to make the separation of that which is good. You are open to receive all as you are not strong enough to shut out or eliminate the undesirable. Therefore, until you have reached this point in your development, accept it calmly and objectively but separate. And if the distress is so great, completely change your pattern, not only of thinking but of doing, by diverting your attention fully to some other object. If necessary, removing yourself from the vicinity of such disturbance. We will go into that more fully later. We must go back again…

…In the psychological realm which has its memories rooted not only in this life but in many others, you are more aware of the karmic patterns existent and you are suffering a persecution complex, punishing yourself rather than moving up in the light of this knowledge. You are keeping all within you, holding tight and cramping your development rather than letting it expand in a natural manner. Being torn and squeezed by your fears and your doubts. We are looking for the reason you are bringing this on yourself in this lifetime.

…Simple… Too much emphasis has been put on the wrong instead of the right and the evil instead of the good. This entity should try looking for good in evil and it will be surprised when it really can see clearly the necessity of evil, at this stage of our evolution, so that the path of good can be seen and easily followed. That is all.

Q. At two points during this study it was indicated that something would be explained later, or words to that effect. Do you wish now to go into detail concerning one or both of these two references?

A. Yes. On the question of automatic writing, this entity can discard this method of concentration for a while until a better understanding of this picture is achieved. Not that there is not value in this point of concentration, but there is value in this knowing that the same results can be achieved without it. Also, especially since this entity is located in a highly magnetically charged area which is conducive to rapid psychic development and therefore no crutch would really be necessary for concentration if the entity desires to use the method of meditation only and thereby receive and categorize much information as comes to it without fear and with the complete knowledge of the co-existence of good and evil, of the entity’s duty to learn from both and decide between the two which path to follow. Also, in meditation, to dwell upon strengthening of the will, to forgive oneself and end this persecution which is unnecessary. For all men have done both good and evil - even the celibate, whatever that means - and therefore need only forgive oneself and forgive each other as there is no originality in sin.

Q. The entity wonders if her tribulations are similar to the trials of Job?

A. Yes, of course. The spirit of God and the spirit of the devil - the spirit of good and evil being the THOUGHTS of good and evil - in conflict with each other within this entity’s subconscious. That is symbolical.

Q. Is it possible that a direct guidance be given for this entity in respect to a specific teaching or method of approach is concerned? Of spiritual approach?

A. First we must eliminate the psychological and the persecution by outlining, either mentally or otherwise, why such persecution should continue. For what things remembered that deserve such punishment. With the aim of seeking what good each one of these things did or created a good effect of a wrong cause - so to speak - which this entity will find has led to this development. The hottest fire makes the strongest steel. Then we proceed to more calm and peaceful meditation as the means of greater knowledge and development. Concentrating on strengthening of the will to keep the less desirable influence out and open a greater receptivity for the better “spirits” - or thoughts - whatever their source, and developing an ability to distinguish the two, as we have said before, benefitting from both and choosing the good as the path to follow. We learn from all things.

Q. In reference to strengthening of the will and overcoming psychological problems, is there a specific line of thought or a specific teaching indicated?

A. We will look around for this…

Nowhere is it defined very clearly. It is a matter of development in itself in order to see clearly, however - wait until we read this page here - of good and evil - speak to us of good and evil in THE PROPHET - will help. And the other are too complicated. A book itself called “Good and Evil”… but it’s very thick, we will wait for that later. The most important thing is to be rid, as we have said before, of the persecution and understand all that has been said so far. Then we can proceed from there to reap benefits from his increased psychic awareness.

Q. As a last question, how can this whole experience be turned into one that will glorify God?

A. Wait a minute… Once cannot “glorify God” until one releases evil. But this entire experience can be turned into a valuable step forward by seeing that in the darkness the light is kept. That refers back to evil being necessary to show the right path of good by its contrast. In the darkness the light is kept. This is the valuable experience. This is the fire through which this entity must pass to become strong as steel in its Godly purpose.

Q. In terminating I will simply ask if there is any additional advice or information that is to be given at this time?

A. We came through so many valleys. I think we have gather them all.

Q. Thank you.

A. We forgot something back at this one place, wait a minute… On the questions of possession and how one would exorcise possession. We have already shown how no two equals can occupy the same space at the same time meaning that is the case of possession the self-identity would be lost or pushed aside while the other took over, leaving no memory of contrast or comparison by the self - only by others. It is therefore easy to see why so many so-called cases of possession have been cured by the shock treatment. The subconscious, if not the conscious, of the entity being possessed, being aware of the shock and not wishing to enjoy that experience again - immediately withholds these evil spirits or evil thoughts from entering their conscious or subconscious mind. It is a matter of the subconscious refusing to share in that experience in most of these cases. In the true cases, it is very difficult to get rid of the possession with the shock treatment as the matter of the entity doing the possessing being created of energy and of strong energy at that, does not or IS not affected so greatly by the energy introduced for the exercising as that of the conscious mind of the entity being possessed. Perhaps this will make that a little clearer, to show that this is NOT the case here.

Q. Can possession be good rather than evil?

A. Yes, in cases of true possession, but we were speaking from the plane of undesirable influence which isn’t possession in this case. We merely stated that for possession to occur the entity’s own identity must be completely displaced for the other to enter. There would be no conscious knowledge of the change, it would be a period of what would be called amnesia, but no knowledge of the difference between good and evil. In a true case of possession, it can be either an entity being possessed by one better than himself of less developed than himself. In that case it would no doubt be desirable.

Q. The following questions concern the entity /255/ for whom a psychic reading was recently done and are questions asked by the entity to clear up information given in that previous reading. The first question asked is that you explain what is meant by “the widespread of the Id”.

A. This is the area of the mental body over which the conscious mind has no control. There is a little bridge connecting it to the subconscious through which some very unpleasant things can manifest at times. This going way back into the history of our more animal-like natures and in this territory are stored the drives that create unexplained impulses inherent from man’s early age and evolution of the mind. This area is not all darkness however but it is unreachable and we have - as we have said - no control over it. What is there can only come through into the subconscious by methods of evolution, by inherent tendencies, and through far memory cords which may be struck at one time or another as we progress in our learning. In this area there are many links to our emotions, our personalities, even our physical manifestation. From this area comes our life/death instinct, the moods of destruction opposed to the forces of good and survival through the father love instinct. It is quite mixed up and that is why we designated the widespread of the Id.

Q. The entity also goes on to say, in reference to this psychic study, this: “My conclusion just arrived at is

have I developed or crated within myself a separate and individual voice due to my seeking within myself for answers and then, due to my wonder, doubt, fear, and imaginative faculty in endeavoring to understand IT, giving it more and more life?” Is that clear?

A. Yes, that is clear. There is no question that more and more and thought creates more strongly that which a though originally created. Is THAT clear?

Q. Yes.

A. And it must be fed to keep it alive, which is what has been done in this case. However, there is always a choice of thought direction which was not clear in this entity’s mind upon this new phenomena and its resultant reactions or occurrences. The fear was conscious and the conscious mind is fallible in its interpretation of that, in this particular case, which can be developed for good. This can be an excellent channel once fear is ruled out. We are looking for an allegory to help… On the conscious plane we do not accept that which we do not want. It is a matter of understanding that will take a little time and much work to get it into proper perspective where it can benefit this entity and all those about it.

Q. The entity also asks how she can account for certain sound phenomena in her house which have been annoying her and wonders if they could be, and how could they be, caused by her?

A. This should be a welcome sign of the expansion of the awareness. This is no formula to set a pattern of fear. This CAN be caused by the entity’s own acceleration in higher vibrations which would cause these disturbances. It can also be outside forces that are not harmful in any sense of the word but rather a sign to indicate that the channel is open for greater awareness and a direction should be set to use this new sense for that which is good. Screen out the undesirable. At test of the strength of this channel and it is one which can be met clearly by an entity who can discriminate wisely.

Q. I have some questions here that were neglected and overlooked during the last study…

A. Wait a minute, there’s something else. The unknown becoming known, to the entity in such a manner as it has, has clouded the importance of this new ability with a cloak of mystery and the fear resulting has weakened this entity’s own ability to protect itself by asserting its own strength. This she can increase with her study and understanding of these forces and by a determined process of thought which can build up a protection about her for a surety of her own safety and of her own ability to reason and evaluate and by placing more confidence in herself and faith in only that which is beneficial and disregarding any forces which would tend to keep her from the right purposes. It is a matter of her own determination, her own confidence, and her own strength. The same on these planes as it is on the conscious.

Q. Thank you. I now have questions that I neglected to ask previously. May I ask them at this time?

A. Yes.

Q. The entity asks if, during this period, she ever contacted that entity who was Edgar Cayce by automatic writing or by hearing his voice? A. This hardly seems likely, although it is possible. The only assurance given in cases such as these are pieces of evidence unknown to anyone but those closest on the physical plane, relatives, of the alleged spirit contact. If such evidence were attained it could be checked for satisfaction. This, too, does not prove actual spirit contact but a coming together of certain vibrations that would relate this information through a certain sympathetic vibration in the entity’s own subconscious or superconscious. An association with etheric matter containing this information but not necessarily that of the entity Edgar Cayce as such.

Q. The last question we have is the: “Can and should I proceed with writing a book on the importance of studying and understanding reincarnation and showing how it yields solutions to present day problems?”

A. Yes, very important to do so as not only will it benefit others but it will be an important building stone in clearing this entity’s own entanglements of the mental levels concerning the awakening or expansion of this awareness. This will help clear up many of the questions of doubt and fear in the conscious mind of this entity. Yes, do it.

I’ll be hoping prayerfully this will bring, or help to bring, a solution. I am much better, but “it” is still with me. The longest period with the least amount of talk so far is being acquired by cutting the voice off, whenever it begins coming in, with the words “Not caring to think. Not thinking,” repeating several times, if necessary, until I can get my mind away and on something else.

Had a card from Peggy Legrand [GD’s note: 8/65 COSMIC STAR carried an article D.M.F.T. FOR THE NEW AGE, by Gladys Baker, which Eloise Franco says is the new married name of Peggy LeGrand, the latter really being actually a nickname. Her article had to do with chiropractic and particularly Dr. Richard Van Rumpt, D.C., of Santa Barbara, Calif.] from the Franco’s and presume she has gotten to headquarters sometime during her visit there.

Perhaps if you would read it through at this point before I make any comments it would help, but I imagine you would like to have some comments from me regarding. But read it, then I’ll proceed…

This seems a bit exaggerated, unless I’m not able to recognize the fact myself: “every day your whole body seems tired, even exhausted…” I do find myself tired and taut at times from a sensitivity in the dorsal region of the spine (which treatments never correct, because it seems to be a weakness, sometimes is shifted to a slightly higher locale) or from plugging on at work that continues to present itself to a point of extreme tiredness, but most everyone does this.

I have used peanut oil rubs, and Olive Oil and Tincture of Myrrh rubs almost every night for a long, long time. Shall keep them up because I know them to be good, and because many of my habits have been based on your father’s readings.

In the paragraph on color, the statement “through the instrumentality of the human channel by which I will express myself” - what do you make of that ? The whole, based on that, sounds like another “spirit” speaking through the “sensitive” to me.

Shall proceed to follow these suggestions, because no harm could come of them anyway, and may, when I have taken a snapshot, see if she can give anything further. Although I know some French, I do not know enough to translate. May wait to hear from you before again writing, because it will take a little time to take care of the snapshot anyway.

Have ridded myself of any attempt at continuous talking by saying “Oh, bother!” and “Period!” and endeavoring to keep my mind from getting back on to any thought or phases of the experience. Cutting short any phrase with these has helped more than anything else.

Hope summer school had good attendance. Perhaps you and Sally could get away for that visit with us over a Saturday and Sunday the 23rd, 30th or 6th. Please suggest when.

Thanks for your letter of August 16th. Sally, the boys, and I had a weeks camping in the state parks in North Carolina and western Virginia. It was good to get away from the telephone after a very busy and well attended Summer School.

The material from the french sensitive certainly isn’t something that could hurt you, and if you feel responsive to it, I would follow up with a picture. Certainly it is entirely on the constructive side. Perhaps it would be better if you don’t furnish any more information than you have already given.

Sally and I have talked, very longingly, about spending a weekend with you and [1861]. It doesn’t seem practical right now. While I was away last Spring, I was elected president of the PTA where Gregory is in school. I haven’t done anything with PTA for years and so have felt reluctant to push it aside. School is opening tomorrow, with the first monthly sessions of the Association in the evening.

More pressing is the fact that I am finishing up the last draft of the revised chapters on my book, and it must be in to the publishers this month. We will take a rain check on that and get up to see you sometime.

Thanks for your letter, received today. Perhaps a little later on, then, you and Sally can run up for a week-end. If you feel you can get away at some future time, won’t you drop us a card, or phone us, for it is very hard for me to know just when an invitation could be accepted - you stay so busy all the time. Don’t feel embarrassed about doing it this way, because I would greatly appreciate it, because we do want you and you are most welcome at any time, and I’ll tell you frankly if there is any other engagement on this end.

If I get anything further from the sensitive I’ll send it to you. Have written her a letter of appreciation, but haven’t taken a snap of myself until this week. Will send her the picture when developed. Have not, and had planned not, to give her any further information about myself.

Yellow and violet silk are not available even in Richmond. Now that materials are coming out of the chemical lab, Mr. Silk Worm can almost retire. I presume silk is suggested for certain electrical qualities. I told her I had not been able to find it. It occurred to me that the Violet Ray might be similar, after I wrote her, so I have been using it, less intensely, over spine and plexus.

Voice still hangs on, and I have had my ups and down. I have Eula Allen’s tape here on “Possession and Interference” which is very excellent. On it she speaks of a lady [422] who came to your father for a reading who was supersensitive, clairvoyantly, I believe, in knowing what her neighbors were doing at given times of the day, and then an inner voice turned upon her. At the time of talking to your father she made the statement that the voice was telling her at that moment that a spider was crawling up her leg. If you are familiar with the case to which I refer, could you send me copies of the readings for her. This bears a similarity that might give me some clues. If not, I’ll write to Eula to trace it down for me.

Glad to know your book will soon be on the way to publication. We will look forward to reading it.

Dear Gladys and Al,

Thank you, Gladys, for the information recently sent. We have always kept all the copies of the Bulletin, so had the information.

Should love to have had a visit from you. Have not invited you recently, because I’ve been up in the air about visits from Hugh Lynn and Sally and Lydia. I had invited them both; and both invitations, replies, etc., have been unsettled for many, many weeks. Still have a visit from Lydia sort of pending.

We are both back in church again. The former rector left quite some time ago, and we have a very pleasant elderly “supply” rector of … [1861] is back on the organ bench and temporarily directing choir work. I have tremendous confidence he has more possibilities in that field than the majority of people in that church realize and maybe he’ll prove it, if they’ll let him have it for a few months.

With his teaching ability, his musical understanding, his knowledge of the church and its music - nobody but I really know his potentiality. Our present rector, Mr. […] is very fond of him and looks to him for much information, so I’m very glad the church relationship is smoother - [1861] is much happier being able to help.

It has been quite a while since I have written you, mostly because I didn’t care to bother or worry you with my troubles, for both of you had tried so hard to help me and had given me everything you knew; so I confined my “problem” correspondence to Hugh Lynn. Maybe he has kept you informed, but I am sure you would like to know where I stand without going too much into detail. I may have something good to tell you before too long, AND when I’ve conquered this “thing”. But, I’ve certainly had my ups and downs. Many times I would think I was on my way to victory to have a return of predominance of annoyance by the voice. The voice never leaves me, in the sense of actually going away as an entity might do who was free, but is always there and triggered by almost any though that has been associated with it before. I can subdue it with various affirmations for periods, but it is never actually away and will slip in at any opportune moment. Sometime, when I’ve conquered, I’ll tell you all I’ve been through, but without knowing there is a victorious ending, it could be a burden and worry to others. Today, something came to me which I feel kind of good and tingley about because I believe it IS a solution. I’ll see and hope - !

I notice that Irene Specht and Robert Huffman are going to be there for the fall conference. I do so want to meet them and hear them, and am praying I can. There are many things in their book [MANY WONDERFUL THINGS] which have brought me through this period, which I doubt, KNOW, I could not have come through, but would have been in an insane asylum by now, but for the answers given therein. Let me explain that later, too, for it would require too much detail at the moment. Somehow I KNOW I’m going to come through alright and conquer this thing, so I’ll wait until the hour triumphant and not bog you down in the middle of it where we don’t know the answers as yet.

Somehow I know you find it hard to understand why the things given in the readings have not long ago dispensed with this voice. I do too. And my faith in God and prayer and the statement that has been given to turn away spirits - [1861] and I cannot understand why they have not worked; but remember, this voice was “moved in” and talking within me and went right on talking REGARDLESS of anything and everything. The thought which was given me today as a solution may explain that - it seems to. I’ll wait and see.

R35. 3/5/59 [2072]‘s letter to GD:

Dear Gladys,

Will you please share this letter with Hugh Lynn and Lydia, because I do not have time tot write to them individually at present, but need to know whether you have nay reading information that may be helpful to me at this point.

My phone call to you stated that I had been having recurrences of what I presumed to be “24 hour flu”. Since December 26th the nausea, vomiting and head pains have recurred about every 7 to 10 days so that I have had 7 repeat performances and with this last I went over to Fletcher Wright (a relative doctor) in Petersburg for a complete check-up to see if the trouble would show up.

I was X-Rayed from stem to stern and nothing showed up but an enlargement about the size of one’s fist in the left lung and a few smaller blips in the right lung. Blood tests and bone marrow test did not show any leukemia although blood count was around 65 or 60 and should be around 85, hence I am somewhat anemic. Dr. Ruissi, who did the blood tests, and Dr. Wright could only arrive at the conclusion that this might be Hodgkin’s Disease although some of the other accompaniments to the condition, such as leukemia, swollen lymph nodes in the neck or armpits or groin are not to be found. A growth on the left lung showed up in a T.B. Mobile Unit X-Ray in 1953, but since I had a cough then and got rid of it a few months after I considered it to be remedied and gone and did not go to a specialist as was recommended by our town doctor at the time. Since the blip was small at that time, it has evidently grown and others have formed on the other lung - the large is on the hilum of the left lung. Asking Dr. Harris (here in town) what such would be composed of he said “a mass of soft tissue”. Of course, they want me to undergo X-Ray of Radiation treatments, since surgery would not be advisable on the smaller growths (or whatever they are). As you know, I am opposed to any of these methods of correction, and have stated as much to Dr. Wright and Dr. Harris, until I have exhausted more natural means of treating, and I have told them that it has always been my choice to go to the Hoxsey Cancer Clinic in Dallas, Texas, which has treated and cured some Hodgkin’s Disease cases, if any of the conditions they treat ever occurred to me.

[1861] and I are not accepting this diagnosis as the last word. I am continuing osteopathic treatments with Dr. Turman in Richmond who has relieved some of the tautness and discomfort along the spine and in the head, but I still have nausea and vomiting spells apparently arising from certain reflexes due to gas pressures in the rectum or intestines or stomach. These cause pains in the back of my head and forehead and sinuses. I had just begun to consider these in the light of Migraines or some other form of headache when I went over for the check-up. I am past the change of life, however. When the nausea spells come on I cannot and do not eat anything for about two days, then I have to be very careful with choice of foods; orange nog, baked potato, beef, chicken, staying away from foods that seem to cause gas.

Please see if there is anything in the Readings that might be applicable. Still have some pains in my head almost every night or about 5 in the morning. At first I took Aspirin, then Anacin, for these, but found when I left them off, that a sip of water would do just as well and the pain would subside in about 5 minutes, then found the pains themselves to be simply intermittent, lasting not more than 5 minutes, usually, so suffer them through now, since Aspirin, Anacin, Compazine and even the Potassium Bromide tend to throw my taste “off” and cause more vomiting or cause me to not want to eat food which I need to build up.

Love to you, Al, Hugh Lynn and Lydia, and to Miss Wynne. I hope she is feeling much better and our prayers and love go to her for healing, although I have not been able to write her as much.

My outlook is constructive and optimistic and neither [1861] nor I are “down in the dumps” but know our hands are in Him; our bodies, our souls are enfolded by God’s; and we have no fears, even though the … [husband’s business] is to be auctioned off or closed this Saturday, the 7th of March. I have both learned a great deal and matured, or grown, in my thinking in the past year and everything and everybody has taken on new and beautiful meanings. I feel I have really known a very close relationship with God and it remains with me.

Please send me anything you have on Hodgkin’s Disease. My doctors seem to be quite certain that is what it is, and as I said I do not want to undergo X-ray treatments. There seems to be no cure known in orthodox medicine. Prefer to try Hoxay Center Clinic before undergoing their methods.

R37. 3/10/59 GD’s letter to [2072]:

Dearest [2072]:

We are so concerned over your apparent condition. Enclosed you will find a copy of five readings given for three people who were told they had Hodgkin’s, and one reading for a person who had pulmonary T. B. These are for you to examine and see if you want to pursue further any of these courses of treatment. I included the T. B. Case because it called for the inhalant of Eucalyptus, etc., as well as the Brandy Keg and the taking of Acigest and Calcios. If you pursue this course of treatments I think you should have the last three or four physical readings of Mr. Cayce as he was developing the pulmonary edema (this may or may not be parallel to your condition, but the adhesion - or edema as they later called it - was on his left lung). A chloride of Gold solution was suggested for him, by the way, and I notice it is recommended in the Hodgkin’s treatment, too.

So, you study these and decide if any of them are applicable and then let us know if we can dig out more information or help you with the details. Dr. Wakefield has the heat treatments referred to in the Hodgkin’s cases, but he does not have the ultra-violet machine referred to - but has the Infra Red.

With the theatre closing perhaps both you and [1861] could come to the Beach for a 2-3 month period for you to be under Dr. Wakefield’s care? or would it be more convenient to commute to Richmond?

Thank you so much for making out our income tax things for us. You didn’t send your bill, so I hope the inclosed check is sufficient for your trouble:

You probably have received a letter from Cliff Owens, saying that he wants to come down on April 22nd to look over the passion play possibilities in …! Of course, we are very much interested in this, but, it is hardly necessary for me to tell you that [2072]‘s physical condition at this time is such that it is most difficult to say just what she or I might be able to do in assisting you to get started. And while, under normal conditions, we would be most happy to have both you and Mr. Owens stay with us; I just don’t know that [2072] would be strong enough to undertake to entertain someone who is somewhat of a stranger. In fact, I am going to try to keep her form doing any unnecessary work when she does come home and will try to keep her from getting at all tired if possible, as she should rest and get her strength back. As you may know, the medical men all say she has Hodgkin’s Disease and they say that only a miracle can save her. However, we have not accepted this diagnosis, as she does not seem to have enough of the symptoms that accompany Hodgkin’s. Zoe Nickerson said that the trouble in her lungs was scar tissues and hot tumors, as the doctors claim, and we are holding to this belief at this time. Never-the-less, the strain on me is terrific and I must confess to being almost torn between two different opinions, especially when my doctor nephew begins to put pressure on me to have her take the X-Ray treatments, with the promise that they can do no more than delay things for a time.

Now, I don’t want [2072] to know that I have written to you thusly, but, I would appreciate it if you could manage to get Mr. Owen’s visit postponed for a time, at least, or, arrange such a schedule that he would not have to cause [2072] any extra work. Frankly, I just don’t know how things will be when she does come home from the beach, as you can understand. So, I would very greatly appreciate your cooperation in smoothing this thing out without [2072]‘s being told about it.

Dear Gladys and Al,

Have surely had my DOWNS and ups since leaving there, although yesterday and today I’ve been stronger. With my eyes off focus, it’s been too much of an effort and strain to try to write.

Radionics doctor, Walter A. Neil [D.C., Ph.T.] in Washington, D.C., found only a badly congested gall bladder [Handwritten, in margin: He said he found no signs of Hodgkin’s in lung or anywhere else, nor were there any STONES in the bladder.] and sent me some concentrated food tablets to take 4 to 6 times a day. They have helped, giving me the essential elements in vegetables which I have been unable to get because of the nausea. Today I started using the Zilatone tablets recommended by the readings, and after a series of these I’ll go back on the Castor Oil Packs again if the nausea shows up again. Not having any flannel, I used a thick towel and set pan, oil and saturated towel aside. It it alright to re-use this, or would it be rancid? I used it about 4-6 weeks ago. [5/7/59 I sent flannel. GD.]

Cliff Owen [Clifford L. Owens, in re Passion Play setting] came. Liked him so much, but was so disappointed that it was one of my worst days and I was flat on my back in misery, so that I could not be up and entertaining like I had planned. Would have liked to have met his wife and children, but he left them at the theatre seeing “Inn of the Sixth Happiness”.

He liked a natural knoll with background of pines and Mr. Maben is getting information together on ownership, etc. for him. Many here are enthusiastic about this possibility for the future of … Mr. Maben said […] insisted that it would have to be put here on an “integrated” basis. Integration is not lawful anywhere in the state of Virginia,

so were better to leave that out and simply give equal seating facilities. Forcing integration does nothing but work with and for the Communistic interests in more ways than one - how long must it take man to discover? The whole of human society, from the beginning of time has been a class society - each distinguished by its certain characteristics. We do not put kindergartners in high school with graduates in order to make them equal in mentality and privileges. Anyone with any sense would see that growth must be according to the individual and grades and classes must be gone through. There must be a reason why achievement and attainment have always been by personal and individual merit. It is a law of nature, which if it were not, would bring about a garbled state. “Brotherhood of man” ideal not being fulfilled need not be laid on man’s conscience either, for other races can be treated kindly, but with separate facilities and equal. I like what Zoe Nickerson said in a reading: Each race should count it a privilege and endeavor to glorify itself. This is putting the whole on a more constructive basis and aiming at a goal that is good and beneficial to individual and group development for all.

Gladys, would you let Bobbie Whiting [Mrs. Barbara Whiting] read my Life Readings from the files. She is interested in making a comparison of these with an astrological chart. I sent her my chart and it should be an interesting bit of research for her, interested as she is in astrological charts.

God and His Love and Help have certainly been manifested to me in my illness: Leland and Beverly Short, dear friends of Petersburg, voluntarily came over and spent several days with us, taking over the cooking, to “See that I got well”; neighbors have sent in all sorts of food; and the colored boy who did not outside work last year came back this year.

Leland and Beverly are much interested in the A.R.E. and are coming to Congress this year with us - will be driving us down.

R40. 5/24/59 GD phoned to see how [2072] was. She got out of bed to come to the phone. [1861] is in hospital having another operation on his good eye for detached retina. A practical nurse is taking care of [2072]. [1861] will have to stay in bed and be absolutely quiet and still for several weeks after getting back from hospital. He made his mother promise not to send [2072] to the hospital while he was gone. [2072] says she had a colon impaction which she thought was from taking the Castor Oil Packs. Dr. Harris wanted her to go to the hospital for treatment for her headache and eyes - eyes won’t focus properly - but she thinks it is just an excuse to get her to the hospital to give her radiation treatment, etc. Naturally they won’t be able to come to the Congress as planned.

R41. 7/7/59 Husband’s letter:

Dear Al & Gladys:

This is the first letter I have tried since my eye operation and am having to rely on everything but my eyes, but hope you can read it.

[2072] spent two and a half weeks in the Medical College Hospital, Richmond only to be told that she had a tumor in her lungs, for which, Nothing can be done. She is now confined to her bed and sleeps a good part of the time. Her sister has been here helping to run the house and look after two nurses and a cook, but she is going to have to return to her home in Indiana and we have decided to put [2072] in the South Hill Hospital, where we hope she can be made comfortable, as I am in no position to try to run things here. I plan to stay up at Mother’s for the time being. Just how long [2072] can last is a matter of conjecture. I still seem to be unable to realize that this could happen, but must face it the best I can.

As for me, I have pretty good light perception in my eye, but the retina is still detached enough to cause distortion and am waiting to see whether another operation is going to be necessary, since Dr. McPherson said he would do more work in the eye if the retina did not right itself. I do have good hopes of eventually recovering the sight in it, however.

Please excuse this paper, as I found we were out of typewriter paper and I did want to get this off to you. Please keep us in your prayers that we may be able to bear this seeming tribulation. Incidentally, from what Bob Adriance told me, Miss Wynne has probably passed on by this time.

Remember me to all of my friends there and will try to let you know of any developments.

Dear Al and Gladys:

Mother tole me upon my return from South Hill at noon that you had called. I am glad to say that your impressions of last evening of [2072]‘s being better were correct.

Dr. Nuckless was in her room when we got there this morning and told me when he came out that she was quite alert and had told him of our visit yesterday and who was with me. She had eaten a regular hospital breakfast and has been taking nourishment for the past five days and has had three bowel movements, when she had not had one since being in that hospital. Dr. Nuckles said that if her improvement continued that she could be brought back home with a practical nurse. Last Thursday we took off her special nurses and put her on floor care, as she was then improving enough to do that. However, on floor care, we can keep her at South Hill better then we could at home, as nurses are hard to get and we would have to have a cook, etc. I asked Dr. Nuckles if he had any explanation for what was taking place and he said he had none. I told him that I knew that a lot of people were praying for her.

Mr. & Mrs. Fuchs, who took me over, were in the room talking to [2072] while I talked to Dr. Nuckles and she recognized them both. She talked more normally then she has for sometime and asked me to try to clear up some of those mental and confused states that she had been going thru with and was so relieved to know that they had not been actualities. She says her head has not ached for some time and that she is in no other pain. She said she has not been able to pray up until today and I told her that I understood that she could not concentrate to do that, but that the Association, a CFO Camp in West Virginia and many other groups and individuals had been praying for her and she was most grateful and said she would now be able to pray again, too. She drank a half pint carton of milk while I was there and swallowed with apparent ease. In short, I would say she was in much better shape this morning then she was when you saw her last. I told her how close she had been to leaving us and she had not realized that. There does not seem to be any sight at this time, but, I told her to pray along with the rest of us for its restoration. The nurses and the colored nurses aids all agree that this is a most unusual case. They never were able to put her to sleep with such things as demirol [Demerol] and they are only using a tranquilizer now.

You may read this letter to the Prayer Group if you wish and tell them how grateful we are for their efforts and ask that your prayers continue.

Dear Hugh Lynn:

Thank you very much for your letter of September 3rd and I am again writing to you sight unseen, as it were. So, please don’t waste your time in trying to count my typing mistakes.

I am most happy to report that [2072]‘s improvement is continuing, as she has had no headache or nausea for 3 weeks now and her eating remains heavy, to say the least. Dr. Nuckols told me today that she was doing all right, but was not giving her stomach time to rest, which is causing some diarrhea. However, her face and arms are now filling out and she is beginning to put on just a little more flesh now. Her complexion is also improving.

She now talks in a quite natural voice and her mind is showing that keenness which has always been one of her characteristics, as you know. She says breathing is better then it has been for a long time and that she feels no obstructions anywhere in her body. Her breath, too, does not have that peculiar odor that accompanies cancer. Dr. Nuckols told me last week that “I am amazed”. He said he thought she definitely had a cancer, but does not now know whether she still has it, since [2072] has balked at letting him take an X-Ray picture of her chest. From all indications that I have been able to check, whatever was causing her illness appears to have vanished as there is no pressure remaining anywhere. I believe the voices were caused by the on-set of this pressure because she says that she no longer has any voices now. And while her eye sight has not returned yet, we have no reason to doubt that it will not come back, as we have already seen what is being called a great miracle by our family, friends and many other people that have talked to us about it. Then, too, if our friends down there at the Association will continue to pray for us, as well as all of the other good people that have been doing this, [2072]‘s sight and mine, too, will certainly come back. Indeed, there are no words that can adequately express our deep gratitude and thankfulness for what God has done and is doing for us and to all of those who have interceded for us. Indeed, we are planning to have a service of thanksgiving in our church in place of the funeral that had been planned. It is to be hoped that those who love us will be just as anxious to come to this service as they would have been to a funeral.

Dear Lydia:

It is about time to give another report on things up here and am going to ask you to either circulate this letter among our fiends there or tell them about it, including the Prayer Group.

[2072]‘s progress seems to be moving along steadily without any real setbacks. She is now sitting up in a chair for a little while each day and Dr. Nuckols has finally told us that he does not think she now has any malignancy, as she is gaining weight and her blood has been built up to a point well past any anemia, it being in the upper 70s. Her appetite remains good and she has had no nausea since she started to come back. She has had some minor headaches, but these have been traced to chocolate and she has cut that out. There seems to be noting wrong with her mind and we lean more towards the belief that her confusion was caused mostly by the drugs they gave her to relieve pain, etc. And while her eye sight has apparently not begun to return as yet, her eyes has cleared up and look to be about normal and we continue to hope and pray that this will come when she gains more strength.

It is no exaggeration to say that the people of … are hailing [2072]‘s recovery a miracle and they are pointing to her great faith. However, I never fail to point out that many have been and are still praying for her and that these prayers have and are playing a most important part in it all.

R45. 12/29/59 Mrs. [2072] died suddenly, while unconscious. Her husband was with her. Several weeks prior to her death she was well enough to be moved from the South Hill Hospital to a nursing home in her hometown.

Dear Gladys:

It was nice of you to telephone yesterday and I did, as always, enjoy chatting with you.

Not knowing which of the Nickerson readings you have and finding that there are two in [2072]‘s file that were given at such close intervals, I am sending you both of them herewith [See Par. R27 above]. I have no recollection of [2072] telling me anything about the one given on May 14th.

It is true that I always got the mail out of the P.O. box, but, I never opened letters addressed to [2072] and did not ask her about them, as a general thing, if she did not show them to me. However, I have discovered, since her passing, that had she have told me some things that she did not tell me, I might have been able to be of more help than I was. If I had have known then as much about Hypnotherapy as I now know, I might even have saved her life - not to mention the alleviation of much of her mental torment. Just how I went thru with all of this without breaking down myself would be a mystery, save for the fact that I knew that I simply had to keep my feet on the ground, as it would have caused that much more trouble for others and my own self, too.

I suppose you might say that I am still having to keep on going from day to day for the very same reason as four years ago. Tho one blow comes upon another and I don’t seem to be getting anywhere and accomplishing little; I still must consider what trouble it would cause my family and friends if I were to just quit trying to go on. Nevertheless, when I begin to wonder how much longer this will go on, I realize that there are many others that must keep on going and I know that I am far from being the only one.

It really makes no difference if you don’t return the readings, as they are of no real use to me now and you are welcome to file the originals with [2072]‘s papers.

I must stop now to write to a very lovely lady, a Blackstone doctor’s widow, who is perhaps in her terminal illness in a Richmond hospital. She has been fighting a malignancy since long before [2072]‘s passing and has somewhat that same sweetness that [2072] had. I have never heard her complain and she always had a beautiful smile for everyone. She is Margaret Hurt and I know she would be helped by yours and Al’s prayers at this time.
