This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 27th day of January, 1940, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. [2841], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc. via Mr. [1797].

-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2084].
-
Now as we find, there are weaknesses, and thus inclinations towards disturbances which might become a very aggravating condition.
-
These as we find have been of some time standing, or the weakness as an inclination is from conditions which existed in a prenatal effect - of what may be called the negative pole of the hepatic circulation; or the conditions which exist as in relation to eliminating of certain characters of poisons or disturbances from the physical forces of the body.
-
Thus this weakness tends to overtax, or overexercise the organs under the disturbance, to the extent that at times there becomes a quite exaggerated condition.
-
That there has not been other than weakness, and tiredness, and languidness at times, as yet indicated, arises from the very fact of the growth and the full life force and expectancy of the body.
-
As we find, unless there is the exercising of activities as to cause a great irritation, or from diet and from the physical actions that would cause injuries to the organs, these should not necessarily give a great deal of trouble, but should within the next two, three to four years gradually be taken care of through the care of the general conditions. This is provided, of course, that there is the proper consideration of the diet and of the activity, and the watching of those things as would cause the organs to be disturbed - as there is the general change of the body.
-
But it will necessarily indicate that there would be a great disturbance if later in the experience there were the attempt to make such union, or activity, as to cause a strain upon these organs.
-
As we find, then, we would keep these:
-
Do not eat quantities EVER of meats. Fish, fowl, - these in moderation may be taken occasionally, but preferably have the diet depend a great deal upon vegetables of all characters. Especially carrots, lettuce, beets and celery; and any manner in which these may be prepared that agrees with the body is well. Of course, all green vegetables early of spring, but not so much of dried vegetables, - rather the fresher variety. However, those that are canned without Benzoate of Soda as a preservative may be taken through such seasons or periods when these are not obtainable fresh. As to the brand of vegetables canned that carries the least Benzoate of Soda, - those that carry same are marked. As we find, though, Libby’s is an excellent brand.
-
About once each week prepare four ounces of Watermelon Seed Tea, and take this over a period of two days; that is, two ounces one day, two the next. Then the next week make this quantity again, fresh. Keep the two ounces preserved in a cool place for the next day, see? This may be taken warm or cold, according to the taste of the body. Prepare by pouring the four ounces of boiling water over a level teaspoonful of cracked or ground watermelon seed, and allowing to steep as ordinary tea; not boiling, but steeping, for about twenty minutes. Then it may be drained off, or strained; taking two ounces of it, and leaving two ounces for the next day. Then the next week do the same again.
-
Also once every ten days (and make it on the tenth day) eat one small Jerusalem artichoke; this to be cooked in its own juices (as in Patapar Paper). This adds the adrenal reaction to the system in a manner that will keep the functioning of the kidneys without irritation, through the salts from same, and straining - as it were - the sugars from the activities in the system, keeping a balance with the activity of the glands, - as the pancreas and spleen, - in relation to its development and activity.
-
As to the exercises, - while there should be plenty of activity in the open when convenient, there should be no heavy or straining exercise, such as the violent exercise as might be had from tennis or golf; but walking, riding or the like is very well for the body.
-
These as we find, if they are adhered to, - for at least six months to a year, - will make for the better conditions of this body, [2084].
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/6/40 Father [2841]‘s letter to EC:
“Had I not been away, I should have at an earlier date, acknowledged with thanks your reading for my daughter, [2084].
“We are following the recommendations very carefully and exactly and have faith that the desired results will be accomplished. I shall write you further regarding the case at a later date…”
R2. 3/19/40 Father [2841]‘s letter to EC:
“We have been following the suggestions made in the reading you gave my daughter, [2084]. For the sake of reference I refer to Reading [2084-1] as of January 27, 1940. While no great time has elapsed we should, due to our great anxiety for the child, like to have a check reading.”
“I should therefore greatly appreciate it if you would please advise me when a check reading could be made. When I know the possible date and time I will let you know at once if it suits or whether we will have to try another date.
“At the first reading I asked no questions as I did not know what to ask, not knowing what the report would be. At the next reading I should like to ask some questions, some in connection with the reading mentioned above and some in connection with the check reading. At first glance, some of these questions may appear of a challenging nature, but please be assured that they are not asked in any such spirit, but merely from a deep desire to understand the case as clearly as possible and so be able to use the information with the greatest possible intelligence.
“I shall state the questions here. Should you prefer to have them written on a different sheet from this letter, please let me know. First, regarding the former reading:
(1) It is stated in the report of Reading [2084-1], page 1, paragraph 3.
“The word hepatic means of or pertaining to the liver whereas the child’s trouble has always been declared kidney and bladder trouble which has been supported by x-ray pictures. Do I understand that there is also liver trouble or that it is the chief trouble?
As regards the phrase ‘…eliminating of certain characters of poisons or disturbances from physical forces of the body.’ What is meant by disturbances from physical forces of the body? (2) On page 2, paragraph 1 of the aforementioned report it is stated ‘as we find, unless there is the exercising of activities as to cause a great irritation…’ What is meant by the exercising of activities?
(3) On page 2, paragraph 2: ‘But it will necessarily indicate that there would be a great disturbance if later in the experience there were the attempt to make such union, or activity, as to cause a strain upon these organs.’ To which organs does this refer? What is meant by attempt to make such union or activity? Does this refer to later marriage, sexual intercourse, child bearing - all of them or any one of them?
(4) Page 3, paragraph 1 regarding exercises: Does riding refer to horse back riding or bicycle or both? Should she indulge in swimming of which she is fond? In swimming should she avoid cold water?
“That is all regarding the first reading. The following questions I should like to add to the above:”
(5) Does the chief disturbance appear in the kidneys and bladder or elsewhere?
(6) Is there indication of Nephritis?
(7) Is there any sign of improvement since the reading on January 27th?
(8) Would any sort of treatment by any kind of doctor (M.D., Osteopath or other) be of aid in the case? If so, what would you advise?
(9) Do her organs appear to be properly in place and of proper size?
(10) Should she avoid becoming overheated? Should she try to consume more than the normal amount of liquids, water, fruit juices, milk, etc., or would this be injurious?
“I shall await word from you as to the possible date for another reading, and as I said, if you wish the questions on a separate sheet of paper, please let me know…”
“P.S. One more question: My daughter is taking thyroid treatment. Would this in any way affect her case?”
R3. 3/21/40 EC’s letter to Father [2841]:
“Thanks for yours of the 19th. I can appreciate your anxiety regarding your daughter, especially from the report you have had, and the little it appears may have been suggested in the information.
“Most of the questions regarding report from the reading, think I might give you a pretty good report without the reading, but wouldn’t risk it unless could talk with you direct.
“Can give you an appointment for the check reading for the afternoon of the 1st, 3:30 to 4:30 EST. if that would be satisfactory. Am planning to be in the New York area about the 8th of April for two weeks. Am sure you would like to hear this reading if possible and would like for you to hear it, as well as I would like to talk with you about it all. Would you prefer to wait until we are there and have a period for the reading, and you and your wife be present at the reading? Or if you would like for us to keep the period as have set it.
“Should we have it there, would have to be the same as the first reading, as we are so limited as to how many we can even try and help - have to make all count that we can. Please understand me - am not trying to hold you up in any way.
“Sincerely hoping to be of a real help, and please let me know at once which you would prefer, the distant or the being present at the reading…”
R4. 3/25/40 Father [2841]‘s letter to EC:
“Thank you for your letter of March 21st. I am delighted to know that you will be in New York shortly and we, my wife and I, shall look forward to seeing you. According to the announcement received from the Association you will be stopping in Bronxville which is only about twenty-five miles from our home. We should very much like to meet you and talk with you. If you will please let us know when it will be convenient to see us we will arrange to be there. We will also be present at the lecture at the McAlpin Hotel. The lecture and the programme should be most interesting.
“Now as to the check reading. We have discussed the matter at length and have decided to have the reading on the earlier date suggested, that is to say, April 1st, 3:30 to 4:30 P.M., EST. I understand perfectly why the charge would be more while you are in New York as I can readily imagine how busy you will be. Although that is unfortunately not beyond a consideration these days, the cost I mean, that is frankly not what caused our decision regarding the earlier date. It was simply because we want the information just as soon as we can possibly obtain it, to relieve our anxiety and to do all we can to help our little girl. So the date as above is satisfactory and unless we hear to the contrary we will count on that. The child will be in the same location, same room. Do you need another description of the location or is the former one sufficient?
“As I said, we look forward to meeting you in New York, or Bronxville, and to talking with you. If it can be arranged we should like to be present at some reading. That is, of course, if you ever have other than directly interested parties present. I should not wish to intrude or appear simply curious. But I should be most interested in witnessing a reading.
“I unfortunately do not have my checkbook at home, where I am writing this letter, but will forward my check covering the reading tomorrow.
“With best regards and the anticipation of meeting you at an early date, I am…”

R6. 10/63 GD’s note: The parents secured a total of 16 readings, the last being on 5/12/44. In July of 1957 the parents visited ARE and reported that the girl is now married, has 3 children. They are very grateful for the help received through Mr. Cayce.

Background
B1. 12/29/39 Mr. [1797]‘s ltr. to EC: “Mr. [2841]‘s little girl, the doctors told him, has not more than 10 yrs. to live.”
B2. 1/2/40 Extract from Father [2841]‘s letter: “At the age of 1 1/2 years she was attacked by Pyelitis, a pus infection of the bladder and kidneys. The trouble persisted off and on until she was five years old, at which time she had a very vicious attack. Following hospital treatment, the trouble seemed to disappear, except for occasional flare-ups, until this last summer. Recently we had an examination by a kidney specialist and we have received a most alarming report that despite her healthy and vigorous appearance, her kidneys are a long way toward being destroyed. We are told further that nothing can be done about it, and the outlook is bleak. Naturally we are very much distressed and wish fervently to do anything to help the child.”
B3. 1/20/40 Letter: “I too sincerely trust that the reading will bring the help we need, and truthfully, I believe it will.”
