This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 27th day of April, 1931, in accordance with request made by his mother, through Dr. Elisha T. Kirk.

Time of Reading 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Penna. (Body and enquiring mind of Dr. Elisha T. Kirk in regard to his patient, [2101]:)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [2101].

2. Ready for questions.

3. (Q) What is the trouble with [2101] and what has caused it? (A) As we find, there has been a bruise or an injury externally that has affected the body; this the greater disorder. Would there be applied, as we find, those properties of stoops [stupes] of hot mullein in a regular routine for two to three days, we may centralize or localize conditions in such a manner that the eliminations through drainages may be set up to prevent even incisions or operative forces; yet these may be necessary unless there is the proper separation, so that there may be the distribution through the system - see?

4. (Q) Just how is this stoop [stupe] to be applied, and where? (A) Over those portions of body where there has been, or is, that failing in the response to those manipulations, or those portions of the active organs that form the troublesome conditions see? The applications would be PREFERABLY green mullein leaves, bruised, and in as hot water as may be applied, directly to body. Apply two to three thicknesses of such bruised and heated leaves, bandaged, for at least thirty to forty minutes. Apply these twice in succession, see? Then wait for a day, then apply again. Three or four applications of same should alter, and make an activity through the kidneys, through the eliminations, in such a manner that we will find changes in the body.

5. (Q) Where does the pus come from? (A) From the bruised area, see - so the applications of the mullein will relieve these areas in such a manner as to make eliminations so they will be drainages from system, and healing with same. We would keep the manipulations in the same way as has been given.

6. (Q) Any change in diet necessary? (A) We would not have any meats of ANY character for the body during those periods when these applications are being made; that is, for at least three to four weeks - see? We would have rather those that are of easy assimilation; principally:

Mornings - citrous fruit diet.

Noon - green vegetables with dressings, and some of the meat JUICES - or soups, see? No meats.

Evenings - rather those of a whole vegetable diet, well cooked vegetables - see?

7. (Q) Is he getting enough rest? (A) Well, this will make him want to rest more, if these applications of heat are strong enough - see?

8. (Q) Is there any urgent need for operative measures? (A) If ye will apply these, we will find they may be ENTIRELY eliminated - or they will so LESSEN the effect of same, if not able to be entirely eliminated, as to make it very easy for body - see?

9. (Q) Can fresh mullein leaves be obtained anywhere this time of year? (A) Fresh mullein - this is the right time - they are young - they are tender - they are well in line now.

10. (Q) Did the eyes and tonsils have anything to do with this condition? (A) The injury, you see, was from without. The strain on the system had an effect upon the tonsil and eye, and the eye and tonsil naturally in turn AIDED in the condition for the general system breaking down, as it were, or giving way to the condition. Do as we have outlined, and we will find these will be aids to the body.

R1. 4/30/31 Dr. Kirk’s letter to EC:

“Mrs. […] was much pleased with the reading for her son and we are going to start the mullein stupe as soon as he comes home from school which will be in about a month. Conditions at school are such that it would be very unsatisfactory to try to do it there. I am however giving him the manipulative treatment twice a week. Mrs. B. wants to send you a contribution as soon as she can.”

R2. 7/11/31 Dr. Kirk’s letter to EC:

“Now I would like to ask a few questions in regard to [2101] for whom his mother asked a reading some time ago. In fact it was at the time when I visited you. Because of his being in school some ten miles from home, they were unable to start the treatment which you advised until about three weeks ago. His mother is much worried and anxious about him as he is weak and so tired.

“She wanted me to ask information whether there is any danger in delaying operative procedure and going on with the mullein stupes?

“The x-ray report shows what appears to be a kidney abscess and it is throwing off an increased amount of pus and cellular debris since the stupes have been applied. Now if this drainage will continue and result in healing the abscess, all will be well. Most doctors think that only surgical drainage will cure the condition and that delay is dangerous. Please let us have this information as soon as convenient.”

R3. 7/21/31 EC’s letter to Dr. Kirk:

“Please pardon my delay in answering your letter of the 11th, especially regarding the case of [2101]. We have been under the stress and strain of making a change in the base of our operations, or moving, and you no doubt realize what that means, with such a full household, and so many things to be done as we have had.

“I’m writing to ask about the condition of [2101]. Such a length of time has elapsed that we had better have information from you before undertaking the reading, though I feel very sure - if you have kept up the mullein stupes, with the manipulations - you have been able to establish the drainages to prevent inroads in the condition. However, let us know the circumstances, and I assure you we will make an appointment to get this in within the next few days if it is desired.”

“I trust, though, that he is getting along fine, and that the delay has not been harmful in any way.”

R4. 7/25/31 Dr. Kirk’s telegram to EC:

“IF POSSIBLE PLEASE GET A READING FOR [2101] ON MONDAY UNLESS I HEAR FROM YOU WILL HAVE HIM STAY AT HOME ALL DAY AT … PA PUS STILL COMING FROM KIDNEY FEELS WEAK WHEN HE WALKS ABOUT”

R6. 7/27/31 Dr. Kirk’s letter to EC:

“Telegram received and I have instructed [2101] to remain in the house at … on the afternoon of Thursday, July 30th so you can get a reading for him. Please answer the following questions:

1. Shall we continue the stupes and manipulations as they are being given?
2. Or would it be better to take him to a surgeon and have the kidney drained surgically?
3. Will he be able to go back to school in September?…”

“I am very glad to receive your kind invitation to visit you and get better acquainted and hope that I may be able to do so in the near future.

“I have one patient who is greatly worrying me as well as his family. His name is [2101], a student at … School, …, Pennsylvania. He is suffering from a very serious condition which seems to be in the right kidney and is getting worse all the time. Operation has been advised as the only hope but it is a serious matter in a boy of sixteen, to take out a kidney. I wonder if you could give me any help on this boy soon.

“If my plans work out I am going to try to get down to see you the last of the month. Possibly Monday morning of the 27th, if that would suit you. No, I have not seen [146] as yet. [2253] seems to be responding slowly to treatment…”
