This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 15th day of February, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2102], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [1539] & Mrs. [1516].

1. EC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. Now as we find, conditions are very specific; yet their causes and the effects are rather of a complex nature.

4. While the body suffers from the effects of asthmatic reaction, from the bronchi and the lungs, we find that the applications for the effective activity upon the system have produced many disturbing forces that at times become a great aggravation to the conditions.

5. As we find, there would be - under the existent circumstances - a great deal of betterment for the body in a drier and a much warmer climate.

6. But, to meet the needs of the conditions under the existent circumstances:

7. While we will have periods when there will be quite a reverting to old conditions, and some periods when a great deal of relaxation will be needed, we will find that if the sources of the conditions - or the causes - are carefully considered, and the applications followed which we will indicate, we will gradually get rid of a great deal of the trouble, - even under the existent conditions.

8. First, - know that the attitude of the mental self has much to do with the effects created; just as the self finds that overheating, overeating, overanxiety, anger, and conditions of any nature that work the body up to a state of exhaustion, produce a great deal of disturbance to the body; just as there has been builded into the mind of the body that there is the effect from, or as of the body being allergic to, so MANY things that are really helpful and necessary, if the corrections will be made properly!

9. These, then, as we find, are the basic causes of the condition; and if there is the DESIRE for the POSITIVE positive position of same, have same X-Rayed!

10. There is in the 1st and 2nd and 3rd dorsal a subluxation INTERNALLY, or downward; and this has for a long period produced a pressure upon the trachea, and the tubes to the lungs themselves. This irritation causes the spasmodic reactions to the body-forces, and causes the quickening of the circulation in the attempt for the superficial activity of the nervous system to replace, or to give sufficient vent to the openings into the lungs for the oxidization or purifying of the air.

11. This must necessarily be relieved. It is of such long standing that it will require several series or periods of the adjustments; not merely those that may be had by the chiropractic aligning of portions of the cerebrospinal system, but rather those that may be had in the OSTEOPATHIC manner, with the use of relaxing of other portions that will aid in correcting the tension in the areas, - as in the areas from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th lumbar, as well as the upper dorsals and through the cervicals.

12. We would take these as a regular thing; twice a week for four weeks, - leave off four weeks; then take again twice a week for four weeks, and leave off four weeks. Continue in this manner for at least six to eight to ten such rounds of taking same.

13. During these periods we would inhale the fumes from Pure Apple Brandy. Not the Brandy itself, but the gas or the fumes from the evaporation of the Brandy - which would be prepared in a charred oak keg. Put half to three-fourths of a gallon of Pure Apple Brandy in a gallon or gallon and a half charred oak keg. Prepare this so that it can be kept corked. In one end make two openings, one a small opening for air only, the other with a tube from which there may be the inhaling of the fumes into the lungs. Keep this close to stove, radiator or heater, so as to form greater evaporation. Not that this is to be heated each time, but keep corked tightly, and each time it is inhaled take two or three or four deep inhalations. Do this about three, four to five times each day. This is to act as a purifier, and is to be used only if all the other suggestions are followed as we have indicated. Do not do one without the other.

14. Also we would take Calcidin, in this manner: Dissolve about three grains of Calcidin in two tablespoonsful of water. Let this be kept warm, and this quantity would be taken in two days. Small sips would be taken about three times each day.

15. The diets, - a great deal has been given the body respecting same; but rather WE would give that the body take what the appetite calls for. As there is the desire for foods of various kinds, supply same; keeping away from too much sweets or too heavy foods.

16. Keep the eliminations well.

17. And where there is the rash, - or the indication of the lack of proper eliminations, - bathe the body in a very weakened antiseptic solution. Or, to a pint of water put at least ten drops of a good strong antiseptic. This may be of any nature, - preferably that of an alkalin-reacting nature; as Lavoris or Glyco-Thymoline.

18. Do that.

19. Be consistent, be persistent.

20. And keep the mind constructive in not only being good, but good for something.

R1. 2/19/40 Mrs. [2102]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I am in receipt of your reading and also your letter of the 17th. I shall try to write you a brief letter of details thus far. To begin to express our anxiety and the eagerness with which we awaited your word would be useless.

Saturday morning I received your reading and following the suggestion, my Aunt (Mrs. […]) and myself went to see Dr. Dobbins at his home. I made the necessary explanations to him and he needless to say was interested. He told us of the number of cases he has treated and it all seems so marvelous. However I am starting treatments tonight, Monday, February 19th. I shall follow instructions just as they are outlined and also as is suggested, try my very hardest to keep my mind constructive in all ways.

To try to explain my feeling about your wonderful work would be very difficult but as I believe in God and know that he works great miracles, I must say that I have renewed hopes for myself and great faith in your ability. My own child has been referred to as a miracle, my life having been despaired of many times before his birth. He is normal physically and mentally and is gifted musically, we feel, as he can play the piano though not instructed.

I have read the biography of your life many times and it is indeed an interesting one. Can well understand your appreciation of any one suffering from asthma, when one so near and dear to you, as your mother, had it. Can truthfully say that through the first year I was glad that I were the afflicted one, because the mental anguish one has of seeing your loved ones terribly ill, is most awful. I have been through that and speak from experience.

Mr. Cayce, I again want to say thank you and we shall cooperate in every way possible to bring about that, that we seek. It all seems like the possible answer to a prayer. I shall keep in touch with you and inform you of my progression. Enclosed please find one dollar for this week.

R2. 2/21/40 EC’s letter to Mrs. [2102]:

Dear Mrs. [2102]

Thank you for yours of the 19th - with enclosure. Am glad to know you have gotten in touch with Dr. Dobbins. Feel sure you are on the road to real help. To be sure there will be periods when it will all seem going backward for this old Asthma is a subtile thing, seemingly being caused by nothing, but are you persistent feel that you will soon see real results. No special hope in me Mrs. [2102], but may you find the experience just as expressed by two men of the Cloth - and very far apart in their beliefs, yet - each expressed their experience in the exact same words, one a Catholic Priest - the other a Rabbi of one of the largest Temples in N.Y. Each said “My experience with your reading is - I realize God again speaks to the children of men through a man” so all the glory and wonder of the marvelous help gotten is to God the giver of all good and perfect gifts.

What you say about your son interests me very much. How old is he now and would like to be of a help to him if possible, and would like to see a life reading for him if it might be of help. Let me know about him won’t you - and we will try and arrange for a reading for him if you would like.

R3. 2/27/40 Memo from Dr. Dobbins to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn:

A Mrs. [2102] came into my L.I. office with the worst case of asthma & allergic skin disease I ever saw. This woman is so bad that she takes two & three bottles (not ampules) of adrenalin a week. She gets so bad that she has to go to the hospital for weeks at a time. She has a very stiff spine & all the lesions mentioned in the reading plus. I shall treat this case & hope we can do things for her for she needs help if anyone does.

R4. 2/27/40 Mrs. [2102]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce

Am in receipt of yours of the 21st - shall try to give you a brief report.

I had my first treatment last Monday, February 19th. Dr. Dobbins, after examining me said that my back was very crooked. My back has caused me a great deal of pain of late, something that my physician could not understand. He said that the treatments would do it a lot of good. The asthma was rather bad all of last week but especially so last Tuesday.

Friday I had another treatment and felt no ill effects except for a slight soreness in my body. Dr. Dobbins thought my skin felt better and looked clearer. I do notice that my skin looks so much better after bathing in Glyco-Thymoline.

Monday February 26th - had another treatment and must say I do not feel as well after it, as I did previous one. Asthma a little worse and severe headaches. Some improvement in feeling of skin. My body seems extremely tired, some soreness. I had been very deaf last week (one form of allergy) but for the past three or four days my ears do not bother me. I am sleeping better. My family sees quite an improvement in me in general. We feel confident that we are at last on the right road. My mother is so happy, feels that one of her most earnest prayers is being answered. As you say, asthma is very subtle and I of course expect to experience a little difficulty but know I’ll be rewarded in the end.

Your interest in my little son is very wonderful, […] was just 5 1/2 years old. He is a very energetic child of rather a nervous temperament, being strong willed. He is a little hard to manage needing firm but gentle handling. Books of any kind interest him, poetry and the usual children’s stories but must say that he shows a special interest in Bible stories. He did not talk until he was past two, yet he could sing every nursery rhyme and many childrens hymns before that age. He has always been keenly interested in music and last summer he surprised us all by playing on the piano, perfectly, “Mary Had A Little Lamb.” Since then he has played almost anything that he hears. He comes home from Sunday School and plays the hymns that were sung that morning. I do not wish to convey the idea that I think he is a genius because he falls far short of that but we all would be interested to know if he is truly gifted and how to go about developing it. He seems to find music in most anything, having played two pieces on the harmonica until, the harmonica met the fate of a good many other toys. […] is a happy child always smiling and almost too willing to help me. I am sorry to say Mr. Cayce, since I last wrote you I’ve had […] to a doctor - he has had a cough and a persistent clearing of the throat which we thought at first was just an affectation but upon an examination the doctor advised a tonsillectomy and also revealed that he has a slight heart murmur. His condition is good otherwise and the doctor thought I had little to worry about. I must admit though that my own condition was not bad until after my tonsil were removed. Perhaps it had no bearing upon the case at all but however it has caused us some thought. I have left it in God’s hands and know that He shall guide me. I thank you for your suggestion of a reading for him and feel sure it would be of a great help to all of us. I cannot help but feel that you are taking a personal interest in me and mine and really have no words to express my gratitude.

The mental relief I have had since having contacted you, is, alone priceless.

I hope I haven’t bored you with this lengthy letter, but am only trying to picture to you what my boy is like.

Dear Mrs. [2102]

Thank you for yours of the 27th - and your report. My O my don’t I know just how one has good and bad days with Asthma - but do hope that very soon you will have many many more of the good days than the bad ones. Feel sure you have one of the nicest Dr’s that has ever been my pleasure to meet and am sure he will do his best for you. Then we will try and help when ever there is needs to be.

Now for the boy - suppose you give me his birth date - well lets put it like this

And we will at the first opportunity try and see what a life reading says for him.

What you say about him is most interesting - and am sure he is the apple of your eye, and can we help in any way am very sure it would be not only helpful to you, but might be a great help for him.

Dear Sir:

Am writing to you at the suggestion of Mr. [1539] & Mrs. [1516] of Washington, D.C.

We chanced to share the same table in a restaurant in New York City and as happens sometimes, we engaged in conversation. During the course of our talk, Mr. [1539] told me how he had been helped and healed through you and was so grateful that he wanted a niece of mine, who is ill, to seek your aid, also.

My niece, Mrs. [2102] is 27 years old, and has a son 5 yrs. She has been a severe sufferer of asthma since she was about 2 years old. It has caused her extreme distress and no one has been able to find the source of this great trouble. Every suggestion that has been made by the Medical Profession has been thoroughly tried. All sorts of tests have been made but still she is made to suffer. She is allergic to most foods, especially eggs and all dairy products.

Mrs. [2102] is a good, religious young woman and deserves a better chance at life than she has heretofore received.

Will you not take her case and help her too? She has very little money, her husband was unemployed for a long time and they are continually having to buy drugs, which cause only a temporary relief.

The [1539]‘s have asked me to let them know the outcome of my contacting you and are deeply interested in the case.

Dear Mrs. [2102]:

Am just in receipt of Mrs. […]‘s letter of the 7th - regards your condition and circumstance, it is never our desire to keep any one from having a reading that sincerely wishes it, and we never refuse any one. Will be quite alright for you to contribute just what you can, each week or how ever suits your convenience. Hoping then to hear from you and to be of a real service, if there is one thing I appreciate it is the suffering of one with Asthma, my own Mother was a sufferer for many years, in fact until found could give the readings, I know it is not of myself, but only as the Divine may work through me, sincerely hope we may be the means or the channel of help in HIS name.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Upon receipt of your very kind and generous letter of the 8th

• I am availing myself of this great privilege with untold gratitude I shall make a very special effort to keep up my part.

You say your mother suffered from asthma; then I feel I need say very little about it to you except that I have for more than 25 years of my life suffered from allergy in some form. Am never free of asthma for 24 hours and at present I am beside myself with hives. I am sensitive to most foods and also a great many things that one comes in contact with in their everyday life. Instead of improving I seem to be getting worse. I know and feel that it is only through God that I shall find my relief. He has never failed me and has always comforted me through many a trying hour.

We have tried everything and I have been to many of the leading hospitals and under the care of doctors specializing in this particular field. What has helped one form of allergy has caused another. Last year I spent confined to my bed and was in the hospital a great deal of that time - in and out of oxygen tents. We have been at a loss as to which way to turn next. I truly hope that you can help me, as you have helped so many others, who, no doubt had greater trials than myself. It would make me very happy indeed to be of service to others and help instead of always being the one needing help. I am greatly blessed in having a child that is perfect physically and it is my one desire to be the mother to him that I should be.

Mr. Cayce, I am enclosing $2 with the hope that it will be acceptable to you and I shall pay one dollar weekly. I would like to know if this entitles me to an immediate reading as I am desirous of being benefitted by your help.
