EC: Yes, we have the entity here, and those relations with the universe and universal forces, as are latent and exhibited in the present entity.
-
In entering astrologically, we find the entity coming under those influences in Pisces, as in the mental, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Neptune. In these relations we find many forces as are latent and only beginning their manifestations in this experience, for in the developing forces of the mental body - and in the changes as are apparent in thought from environmental forces - these make their impression as reactions upon the soul development of the entity.
-
These, then, we find latent and manifested in the present entity TO the present experience:
-
In Mercury, those mental abilities to classify, to gather in an UNUSUAL manner those things as pertain to a MENTAL body development.
-
In Pisces’ influence we find those of the mystic forces have their influence and INTEREST for the body, in that MANNER as is influenced through those forces in Venus - as make for a manifestation of same as love’s influence. Hence the religious turn of thought for the entity, but far from being dogmatic in its attitude or application; rather in that of the broader sense.
-
In those influences in Jupiter and in Neptune, we find the broadness of vision, the broadness of influence the entity may have UPON those WHOM the entity contacts. While in the present experience, as in the last two years, we have found that these are rather REMOTE in the entity’s experience; coming rather as hopes or promises from individuals, from groups, from those forces as the entity hopes to gain in the MENTAL body as to apply in relationships with others; yet to the ENTITY these may become realities as the entity, through that influence in the Pisces - which makes for occult; that in the Neptune of the mysterious or mystery forces of life; tending for those of ritualistic form or manner, yet to the entity these are held rather as a NECESSARY application in the individual LIFE as to reach certain conclusions or positions, or aims; yet these should NOT be allowed to become as principles; rather as those forces that are as basic FOR principles to be established FROM, by the ENTITY’S own experience. WELL for the ENTITY to gain that difference in those making as personalities from the astrological and from the relationships as exist in the present experience.
-
In those in Jupiter and Venus, making for a pleasing personality; one making friendships not TOO easily, nor too hard - but rather one that is to be known to be liked, or to be in the position as of thorough companion; companionate in the mien and in the attitude, yet not too close as a pal or as an associate without the due consideration from all angles of the various experiences.
-
In the aptitudes, those forces as make for a DEVELOPMENT will be in the application of those laws as govern individual activities towards relationships in life; be the work for the entity, in the development for self and in the relationships to others, as will be seen from the EXPERIENCES in the earth’s plane.
-
In the appearances and their influences, we find as these:
-
In the one before this in that land of nativity, and during that period when there was the establishing of the frontiers in the land. The entity then was among those who were the defenders in the Fort then called Dearborn. The entity was in second command during the period of siege, and gained in the experience - and through the service as was given to those who suffered in body and in want during that period. In the name James Clarke, and there may STILL be seen among those records of that experience those ACTIVITIES OF the entity. In the effect this has upon the present entity, that of the outdoor, that of the love of a leadership in whatever undertaking the entity attempts, and is usually found AMONG those leaders in whatever group, whatever undertaking.
-
In the one before this we find in that land then known as the City in the Hills, where there were those of the new peoples, or new truths being given. Then, when there was the persecution of those as had accepted, or did accept or teach this new teaching. The entity was then among those who heard, who accepted, who became among those followers, later among those PERSECUTED for the undertakings in that experience. In this the entity gained. In the first PORTION of the experience the entity lost, but with the new understanding, the new application of that as had been gained, the entity builded in the application of self for those whom the entity would serve. Hence, ever has been in the present that peculiar influence of the stories of that teacher in that period, and the exploits and the understandings of those who became the followers of the Master has been of peculiar interest to the entity; and in the keeping close to that gained in that experience may the entity gain in the most in this, or any other experience; for He had, He has, He keeps the light that may MAKE the activities of those in earth’s experience at a oneness with those creative forces, as brings life, light, immortality, to the souls of men. In the name then, that may be seen - as the one that returned the cloak to the Master.
-
In the one before this in that land now called Egypt, and during that period when there were divisions in the land, and with the rebellions arising the entity then joined with those that rebelled, hoping to establish with and for the natives that of THEIR OWN concept of that as had been brought by the priest that was exiled. The entity lost through a portion of this experience, and not until there was the re-establishing of the priest in the land did the entity seek to again come under the influence, or to lend a service to others. THEN the entity became among those that were of the healing arts as applied through those things given in those teachings in the period, both as pertained to the mechanical forces as were applied and to the herbs as gathered in that period. Hence in the present that as pertains to that which may be applied in the MENTAL man for the healing of the physical AND mental is of particular interest, or PECULIAR interest to the entity, especially that that has to do with all the arts as of the various fields of expression. THESE influence the entity in the present experience, and in that may the entity apply SELF for the material, or for those that will bring the greater contentment in the present experience will be as a teacher, or an aide TO a teacher that applies to the MENTAL body and the MATERIAL body. As for the places where these may be best applied, there has been offered the entity an opportunity to gain an understanding in the MATERIAL things in life. These will require a journey to the western portion of the country - California - and THERE the entity may make, with that surroundings, that environ, that force as INNATE within SELF, that success of materials; but let not that be the first and foremost in the mental body. Rather live that the soul may grow, and the successes that come THROUGH MATERIAL forces will be the outcome of same; remembering that as in the return of the cloak taken from the Master, when under the influence of the teacher Paul, the entity gained that insight that that sowed MUST bring the kind of harvest that the cultivation brings of the seed sown; for we cultivate by nature those deeds, those seeds of life, as we sow them. What WILL the harvest be? for as ye sow, as ye cultivate that sown, as ye apply in the mental body, so MUST that seed be that the entity presents to ITS Maker. Keep thine body, thine mind, pure, that the soul may expand into the knowledge and understanding of ITS Maker; for GOD gives the increase.

R1. 6/18/31 Mr. [119]‘s letter: “Mrs. [2138] is with us for a few days and I have had the opportunity of reading the reading you gave for her son, [2137]. We are very much interested in this young man. I think Mrs. [120] told you something about it when you were here.”
R2. 8/1/31 His mother secured her a Life Rdg., - See 2138-1.
R3. 10/28/31 Mrs. [120]‘s letter: “You probably have learned of Mrs. [2138]‘s return east and her selfish act in taking [2137] with her. We always intended to provide an education for [2137] provided his marks in high School warranted it. His wish to be an aeronautical engineer gave a rather narrow field. Mr. [119] wrote [2137] to make his own inquires aided by his school professors and decide. The only thing we required was that the college must be first class. I thought knowing his mother’s financial position that it would be nice if she could take the place of cook and housekeeper. I had already engaged a waitress and chamber maid so I sent Mrs. [2138] a check for expenses and invited her to our home in … for a few days to see how we lived. You have been there and know. I told her if she could do the work I would pay her
100 a month as (as I knew she would have to clothe [2137]). We sent her300 expense money out and they came. We placed [2137] in College, paying 6 months in advance; paid other club dues and he started. First she could not cook … I tried to teach her but after 2 weeks I gave it up and told her I must get a cook and she was terribly angry when I told her she would have less money. I pay my cook now75. It is good money out here now. The second girl was getting60. …I began going down hill owing to the disturbed atmosphere. The second girl declined to work with Mrs. [2138] and left. I got a Chinese cook. She spoiled him telling him what I paid my cook east and he left. I got another cook which I have now, but she nearly spoiled her talking about me and my broken promises. Finally Mr. [119] and my doctor said I must be freed from her venom for she never accepted her position in the house, not a guest and never lost an opportunity to hurt me. The new cook objected to her coming into the kitchen and getting 7 o’clock breakfast for [2137]. You can see how that would be, consequently […] [my husband] and I told Mrs. [2138] and [2137] that the atmosphere of resentment and discontentment was pulling me down and he would get her transportation home, pay her a month’s salary and take [2137] out to the college to pick out his room and we could allow him50.00 a month. She was furious and said I shall take [2137] with me, etc., etc. Mr. [119] said you are doing very wrong and think it over 'till morning. I was by that time in bed and again obliged to be carried up and down stairs. In the morning she said again, [2137] goes with me. When asked when she wanted to go she said tomorrow. [...] [My husband] got them tickets and pullman, gave her the75, and they left Monday the 19th. I have never known so selfish a person.Poor [2137] was not allowed to report to [my husband] anything about his college work. He told […] - who took them to the train and who told her she was spoiling [2137]‘s future - also told [2137] he should have consulted with us and he said his mother would not let him. Poor boy. I wanted you to know the whole truth for she is very untruthful I find. …Mr. [119] will add a word and enclose a paper received from the college.”
R4. 10/29/31 [119]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I have read Mrs. [120]‘s letter and do not know that I have much to add. We went to the college to find out, if possible, whether there was any reason for [2137] extreme reticence regarding his work and what reason he gave for leaving. The paper Mrs. [120] refers to is a letter from the registrar (which I prefer to keep) stating that the reason he gave was that he was unable to continue on account of insufficient funds. In view of the facts set forth in Mrs. […]‘s letter you will note the inconsistency (to call it by a mild name) of this statement.
We are very sorry for [2137] and regret the seeming necessity of bringing the subject to your attention in such detail but wanted you to have ungarbled facts regarding it.
The whole proposition has been a sorry experience for us, both as to the expense involved but primarily because of the effect it has had on Mrs. [120]‘s health.
Our kindest regards to you and your family
Sincerely yours, [119]
R5. 12/5/31 EC’s ltr. to [119] and [120]:
Mr. [119] and Mrs. [120] …, Calif.
Mr. dear Mr. [119] and Mrs. [120]:
I was indeed very glad to hear from you, but sorry to know that such disappointing results had come from your attempt to be of service to someone, whom I felt understood - and should have been able to have been of great help to you, giving the young man an opportunity also to complete his education so as to fit himself for a place where he might be of service to others, as well as to bring contentment and understanding to himself. It IS such disappointments that makes us doubt and wonder if the struggle to be of service to another is worth all the heart aches and discomforts it brings to us in so many ways; yet we have to accept things as they are, or as our own understanding and development enables us to see, and use each experience as a stepping stone, not allowing the circumstance to embitter us against our fellowman - thus making us selfish or self-centered; but knowing within our own selves we have given others an opportunity, and that is all HE is able to give us in the position we occupy the scheme of things. We have through His love, His patience, His mercy, the opportunity to make ourselves one with Him. It is very true our activities must be confined to our fellowman, and when we see them exhibit such self-centered and selfish manners, we wonder if there can be any good in ANY of them. Yet we remember, HE said, “There is none good; no, not one,” and even though those that were with Him day after day for a number of years could not understand, did not understand at the time, years later they awoke to the true meaning of His purposes, His aims, His desires with men. There were failures time and time gain, and He often had to rebuke many of them, telling them to “Get behind me Satan; for thou savorest not of the things of life but of the material things.”
Yes, I have had a letter from Mrs. [2138]. She has asked me rather to explain why the information suggested that [2137] should go west for his better development. Of course, we haven’t had the opportunity as yet to see what will be given. I am in hopes, however, that it will be a real lesson to her, and to [2137] also. As yet they have not returned to Norfolk, but are among their old friends in Ohio. Her association with the Norfolk group (who are now formed into a study group of this work), of course, leads to that opportunity for many of them to speak of the circumstances from her expressions regarding same. It was indeed very lovely of you both to write me as you did. I certainly appreciate it. I certainly regret, Mrs. […] that it has brought to you so much distress, as I know it must have; for NOTHING creates more poisons in our systems than to lose control of ourselves, or to be so bitterly disappointed in ones to whom we have tried to be of real service.
We too, Mr. [119], have had a very GALLING experience - to us. Possibly you have read something in the papers, for it became Associated Press and international news. Our little office - my wife, Miss Davis and I - were in New York for a couple of weeks, trying to get better acquainted with some members of our Association, and to meet many whom we had not known personally, and stimulate some interest in our undertaking. Some of the authorities, or personalities, took exceptions - it seems - and attempted to have the law on us, as “fortune tellers”. So we had to go through a harrowing experience of a trial. I am very THANKFUL to say, our friends - many of whom we had considered rather as acquaintances - rallied to our support, and of course nothing came of it; rather we have a clean bill of health in the state of New York, and may legally carry on our work there if we so choose. To be sure, it caused a great deal of unpleasant notoriety, for the yellow journals made some very extravagant remarks about it all. They intimated that the blame was laid at someone’s door, and that we were attempting to fleece or mulct them - as they expressed it - out of moneys. Of course every work of it false, but many of the public read it, and those averse to anything pertaining to spiritualistic influence no doubt gloated over it. Our friends, however, have been very lovely to us, both in New York and locally, and there is a very definite line drawn now. I hope we, as you and Mrs. [120] may be able to see good in this unpleasant experience and grow to be bigger and better servants of the living God.
I certainly do hope, Mrs. [120] that you will soon gain your normal equilibrium, in the lovely climate you must have there. I’m hoping and trusting that your surroundings and everything will enable you to soon be in a very much more pleasant and normal condition. We assure you we often think and speak of you, and love you both very much.
I want to thank you for writing me as you did, and for all the thought and consideration you have given us from time to time. I trust we may be favored with communications from you often, for we love to keep in touch with you.
With love from all to you both, I am
Ever the same, EC:GD
