This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of November, 1942, in accordance with request made by the mother Mrs. [2753], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [2148].

3. In giving the interpretation of the records here, many of the experiences of this entity will be quite interesting; may be edifying to some if they will accept same.

4. These interpretations we choose from the records made here, upon the skein of time and space, with the desire and purpose that - as there is the unfoldment of this entity’s abilities - there may be those instructions, directions for those who have the privilege, the opportunity of assisting the unfoldment of an entity whose activity may bring weal or woe to many.

5. As to the directing of the influences, much may be given. These we would give as that to be considered by those who are responsible for the entity:

6. Here you have a very sensitive entity; one who will be worldly-wise. In the periods of unfoldment instill that of right and justice in the entity. And in the precepts given, live them in thine own experience; else we may find, as in the experience before this, the entity leaving home early in its life [See 2148-7, Par. R2]. These at that experience brought periods of anxiety, and those tendencies will be a part of the experience of this entity.

7. In the urges latent and manifested, much that has been indicated will be intuitive in the experience of the entity. Even in the present, oft those about the entity wonder who said this or that, that the entity repeats. These are, then, those precepts and examples that are necessary in the present. For, the entity will grasp much from observation.

8. We find the urges astrologically from Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus are a portion of the entity’s experience. Venus is both afflicted and having an urge in combination with Jupiter. Hence we will find these as some of the characteristics indicated, and that will develop as the body-mind develops:

9. One always above its years in observation, interest and activity.

10. One that can get as mad as the most, and becomes very determined in self. These are necessary, yet if these are not controlled by the entity they may become hard to deal with. And the ability to control must be instilled in the unfolding mind of the entity. These are indicated in mind and in Mars, and will also bring strength and virility, and a strong body after those periods of the unfoldment have come.

11. Also we find urges indicated as to the directions that may be given for body-activity. Things that have to do with metals of any nature, - as in the experience before this the entity was a blacksmith, a worker in iron, a worker with machinery, a worker with those even who formulated some of the machinery that has become the most revolutionary influence in saving of grain. Also in other experiences, as in Egypt, the entity was a worker in precious metals and precious stones.

12. Hence something of a technical education should be the unfoldment and the opportunities for this entity, and things that have to do with metal and chemistry. These should be those fields of activity, as indicated in Jupiter, Mercury, Uranus, Mars, as well as in Venus.

13. In those activities, then, there should be that environ about the entity in which things may be made, things may be understood, or machinery of any nature. The toys and playthings should be mechanical toys. These bring ideas in the experience of the entity as the unfoldment comes about.

14. As to suggestions, directions for those responsible for the entity:

15. Give the entity a reason, ever, for corrections given; not only because you say so but because of its moral influence upon the entity. Take the time to explain such to the entity when corrections are made. Indeed it may be said, while the entity may be spoiled, they that spoil the child and spare the rod will eventually regret same. Not that this means the correction is to be made by force alone, but those tendencies, those temperaments must be guided in the direction in which the strong mind, the indomitable temper, the determinations, may be not blocked but directed into creative channels; not broken but guided correctly. Reason with the entity oft; especially in the stories, the tales told, let them have something of the spiritual nature also, so that the great imagination that is a part of the experience - may have those fields for activity in the moments of the entity’s action in its relationship to its own unfoldment, its relationships to others; that these will bring a power, and an influence for good.

16. As to the appearances in the earth:

17. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity. The entity again has come to the mother, that was its mother in that experience, in the name Micajah Cayce.

18. There the entity oft caused anxiety to the mother, as well as to the father; a blacksmith and a worker in metals, aiding McCormick in the development of the harvest binder. These were a part of the entity’s experience.

19. Hence mechanical things, mechanical toys, mechanical activities and things having to do with metals of all natures, and those things having to do with chemical forces, should all be the forms of study in the present.

20. Through that experience the entity was thought by many to be wild, yet developed through the period. And when there was the return (though too late for the benefits of the mother’s advice or counsel), the entity brought much of worth while experiences to those in the environs of Powhatan and Chesterfield County, Virginia.

21. Before that the entity was in the English or Scotch land, during those periods when there were the preparations for the Crusade.

22. The entity became a leader, developing the metals that were used as the shields that made for consternation in the reflection of their light when there were attacks in those periods of activity.

23. In the present the entity will have an experience in this life when there will be less of wars and more of those things that were a part of the experience, and may be made the experience in the present, of the turning war materials into conveniences and helpful influences for the populace or the general public; as the indications from Jupiter gave the UNIVERSAL activity.

24. Thus the associations of the entity may be applied in those things towards a universal peace, but in the mechanics of same rather than in the moral or spiritual forces; yet with the trainings these may become portions of the entity’s activity in the present.

25. Before that the entity was in that period just previous to the advent of the Master in the earth.

26. The entity was a student of, and a worker with, especially the Essene groups that were making those preparations for the coming of these particular events in the experience of man.

27. Thus those intuitive forces. For, the entity was a worker in the chemical and the metal attributes, and thus called an alchemist.

28. The entity reached an old age in that period, knowing or seeing in the Temple those periods when Anna and the priest blessed the Son. These brought to the entity a satisfaction, in seeing those things the entity had worked for. Thus those communications that went from this entity to the Wise Men. Thus we come to those interpretations of the periods when the Wise Men visited the activities of the Christ, or Jesus who became the Christ.

29. The name then was Eliajah. In the experience the entity gained throughout. And the interest will be found, in the unfolding years, in those things that are of the mysterious nature, the entity’s interest in telling stories, fairy tales, those experiences where the unusual happened.

30. And the intuitive forces that will be manifested in the present experience of this entity arise from those innate forces there.

31. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those periods of reconstruction.

32. The entity was among those peoples in the group that followed the priest into exile, who returned with the Priest and became of the decorators in the Temple of Sacrifice and Temple Beautiful; a worker in gold, silver, copper, brass, iron, and those things that were used in the decorative forces, as well as a part of the electrical forces that came into being during that period.

33. But for the entity, keep away from electricity in this period. For, as there, it may bring destructive forces; for these would be the tendencies - if the activities were in that field in the present.

34. The name then was Ish-Cht-Bab.

35. Then, as to the abilities of the entity in the present:

36. These are only limited by the opportunities that may be given the entity as to its technical unfoldment, and as to the spiritual awakening or awareness that becomes a part of the experience of the entity in this sojourn.

37. In the fields as indicated, - that have to do with metal, or machinery, or things that move, - should be the service or the outlet for the entity’s activities in the present.

39. (Q) For what special work or experience did this entity come into the earth at this time? (A) As indicated, the mechanical unfoldments for those things having to do with conveniences for activities in relationship to the preservation of things and peoples and lives and groups, see?

40. (Q) Please suggest the special training that would help him to develop into a useful man. (A) As indicated, a technical education, but dealing with metals and chemicals, - metals, particularly.

41. (Q) What have been his former associations with the following: His present mother, [2753]? (A) As indicated, her son in the experience before this. Also in the Egyptian experience a close associate in activities in the latter part of that sojourn there.

42. (Q) His father, [533] (A) In the experience before this an acquaintance, and related to, but not in that same association as with the mother. Also in Egypt their activities were associated, as brothers then.

43. (Q) His grandmother, [1409]? (A) Oft has been the experience with this entity, but the closer association was in the Palestine experience.

44. (Q) What are the symbols for this entity? (A) IRON! and the symbol of iron.

45. (Q) Is there any specific reason why he has so much fear of the entity how known as [1467]? (A) No. These are parts of the experience in the Egyptian activity, but these grow out of that fear in the destructive forces which brought the experience to the entity there, in the use of electrical forces.

46. (Q) Why does he seem so susceptible to picking up ugly words and bad habits? (A) These are the experience of every entity with a strong mind. Direct these, and not abuse them.

R1. 1/15/59 Mother [2753] reported to GD that her son [2148] is going to the University of Virginia [V.P.I.?] studying mechanical engineering.

R2. 1/26/61 REPORT ON [2148]‘s LIFE READING [to Hugh Lynn Cayce]:

On Thursday, January 26, 1961 [2148] visited with me at Virginia Beach and discussed his life reading.

I first read the reading and made a list of specific statements made in the reading about his character traits, talents, abilities, interests, etc. I then went over each one of these with him asking him if he felt that the statements were true or not true. We compiled the following list: (It should be noted that the reading was given for him when he was two years old. He is now around twenty-one.)

Sensitive: [2148] said that he felt that this was absolutely true. He gave several examples of sensitivity in connection with feelings, especially emotional reactions to people, including members of his family and girls that he has had problems with.

Worldly Wise: This he felt was absolutely true. His interest had settled on material things, on making money. At a very early age, he began to pick up bad words quite quickly, and his family was concerned about his use of bad language. He has great interest in dress, in social activities and has had difficulty in college because of his many extra-curricular activities that would certainly be considered worldly.

Leave Home Early: He indicates that this has happened, that his desire to leave home and get away from his father’s [533] influence particularly has shown up and is the basis for decision in his life right at this time.

Ability to Grasp Much From Observation: I asked him several questions about his powers of observation. He is now a rather successful automobile salesman working in his father’s business. He pointed out that a salesman has to be a good observer of the interest and capacities of clients. He pointed out that he was particularly observant of dress with people and signs of the interest they might show for a particular type of automobile.

Intuitive: He said that while he makes plans and tries to think things through, he frequently acts on hunches and feels that the intuitive remark is accurate, more accurate in the earlier years than even at present.

The reading mentioned observation, many interests, many activities, etc.: In checking with [2148], I found that he was very active in High School and in college until his grades grew so bad that he had to leave V.P.I. He plans on returning. He attributes his failure in college to difficulty with a girl, inability to focus on his work, and also the many extracurricular activities he had taken on.

The reading mentioned his anger, getting mad easily, his determinedness and hard to deal with if this was not controlled: He said that this is true and has been true since he was a child. He claims that he gets mad now very easily, but that he has tried not to show this. He mentioned numerous arguments, long discussions with his father that got into angry discussions at times.

The reading mentioned strength and virility: He said that he could remember only one illness of any kind - this was tonsil trouble when he was a child, that he is very healthy and that he is strong and physically active. He also admitted to rather intense sex drive that would confirm the statement on virility.

The readings mentioned interest in metal and suggested a technical education, recommending that he be given even mechanical toys as early as possible: This part of the reading he says he has followed out. He took courses in mechanical engineering at V.P.I. and toward the latter part of his junior year, I believe it is, transferred to metallurgy. He has strong inclinations towards business he says and does not want to be confined to one small job like a drawing board or something of that kind. He got into metallurgy for that purpose and is now considering the possibility of getting connected with some big company dealing with metals. He plans on returning to V.P.I. and finishing his course on metallurgy. [2148] indicated that he has always been associated with automobiles, mechanical vehicles in other words, that his father is now interested in a business connected with a mechanical device for lining wheels on the front end of cars, that he might go into this, that he has made his own money for some time by being a good salesman and has always dealt with mechanical things. He raised a question that this was rather a general statement about people and everybody who is concerned with mechanical things. After some discussion, we clarified this a bit as the average person is by no means associated directly in his work with objects made with metal.

Great imagination was indicated in the reading: We discussed the possibility of his becoming an idea man in connection with the use of metals for new and specific purposes. He agreed that he needed a college education for such work and I encouraged him to do some reading in the field of metallurgy even while he is waiting out the time to get back into a spring session at V.P.I. That he could particularly make a study of steel and the new processes for steel that are creating all kinds of new products. We discussed the possibility of his writing to U.S. Steel and getting recommendations for books and pamphlets on this subject, perhaps later getting into some company that dealt with steel products. I encouraged him in not settling down in small jobs such as an automobile salesman, for the reading certainly indicated that he had broader capacities in imaginative abilities that would lead to a much happier life. He seemed to be vitally concerned with following this reading and bought a copy of MANY MANSIONS at my recommendation before he left. I’ll follow this up later with a letter and hope to get further report from him. [HLC]

My dear Mr. [2148]

It was a pleasure to talk with you regarding your Edgar Cayce life reading.

After you have had a chance to read MANY MANSIONS by Gina Cerminara, I hope you will make a point of coming out again so that we may discuss some of the general ideas regarding reincarnation and karma outlined in her book which may apply specifically to your reading.

While you are waiting out the time to get back into school, I certainly hope that you will follow up our discussions by becoming more familiar with some of the booklets published by United States Steel on new processes for steel. I think a letter to their research department might bring you some references to some good books and perhaps even new pamphlets which they are publishing on the subject. I know that United States Steel, for example, sponsors a tremendous research program. This is the kind of activity and work that you might well get into according to the Edgar Cayce reading. It would lead, I think, to a broader, more productive and richer fuller life.
