This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of July, 1942, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. [2345], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:35 to 10:45 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, West Va.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2153].
-
As we find, the conditions show changes - and in many respects these are very much improved at times more than others.
-
There is a reverting to those disturbing forces of every nature that have been indicated through the body, or arising from those conditions that have been indicated.
-
In the present there is the forming rather of an irritation to the coordination between cerebrospinal and sympathetic nervous systems. The allaying of same brings about, of course, helpful forces in some respects.
-
And so long as those attitudes are kept that are necessary in the relationships to those about or responsible for the body, there are better conditions. When there is any resentment, or emotional or material upset, there is an irregularity to the tendencies - and irritations arise.
-
These find a reflection in the activities in the body as indicated.
-
We would keep most all of those things that have been suggested.
-
Periodically, or regularly, we would have a series of the corrections osteopathically; especially as related to breaking up those adhesions and those tendencies for incoordinations in the body. The adhesions are especially in those areas of the lacteal duct and the caecum, and those areas along the right side; while the tensions are in the lower cervicals and the upper dorsals.
-
We would now have the vibrations of the low Wet Cell Appliance, carrying only Spirits of Camphor - vibratorially - commercial strength. Make the attachments as follows:
-
The larger nickel plate, through which the Camphor passes vibratorially, would be attached at the lacteal duct and the umbilical center - or, for this body, about three fingers from the navel center to the right, and two fingers up. The small copper plate would be attached at the lumbar axis.
-
Make these attachments thirty minutes each day, as the body rests.
-
Change the Camphor solution every fifteen days. Renew the charge for the Appliance every thirty days.
-
Keep the attachment plates clean or polished, before and after using.
-
As for the acute conditions in the knee, or the limb here, - we would massage same with salt dampened with Pure Apple Vinegar. If the body wants to be in motion, just massage this into the area. But when the body is resting, this mixture may be put on a cloth or gauze and bound on - not too tight - for an hour, twice or three times a day.
-
We would keep the activities physically and mentally as has been indicated; staying close to the diets outlined, if we would bring the bettered conditions for the body.
-
The use of the allaying drug we would keep, but do not take so much as to interfere with those other applications that are indicated.
-
Do these things, as we find, and we will bring the better influences for this body.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 11/18/42 Father’s letter to EC:
“I wish to assure you that I appreciate your thoughtfulness in requesting the publishers to mail me a copy of the book entitled “THERE IS A RIVER”, and am enclosing herewith my check for $5.00 in settlement thereof.
“It has been some time since I last heard from you and I do hope that you, Mrs. Cayce, the boys and their wives are all enjoying good health.
“Mrs. [2344] and [2153] have been in Boston for the past two months where the latter has been receiving treatment from Doctors Merritt [H. Houston Merritt, M.D.] and Lenox [William Lennox, M.D.], who are renowned specialists in their particular line and who have to date been successful in locating a medicine that has proven helpful to my little girl. I expect their return within the next couple of weeks and when they do, I will arrange with you to give a reading to determine her present condition and what further steps to take to really bring about a cure.
“Incidentally, I recall that you gave [2153] a reading several months ago and I don’t remember whether or not I mailed you a check in settlement thereof. I wish you would look this up and advise me.
“With kindest regards and best wishes to your entire family and Miss Gladys, I am”
R2. 11/20/42 Letter to [2345] from EC:
“Thank you for yours of the 18th. Glad you were pleased with my asking the publishers to send you the book. Feel sure you will get it next week - should have been out this week. Don’t know why it has been held up. Sent the sheets back to them about ten days ago. Autographed all of the special edition, believe you will like it.
“Glad to hear from [2153] and Mrs. [2344]. Glad she is better - just hope the Dr. there in Boston have just what is needed for her at this time.
“Yes, you sent check for the last reading we had for her. Thank you. The Grandson is fine - quite a chap, is six weeks old now and Mother and son doing just fine. Looks very much like H. L. Don’t have to tell you Mrs. Cayce and I are both crazy about him.
“Thanks again. Know will be glad to try and help at any time with every good wish, asking to be remembered to [2153] and Mrs. [2344],” Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R3. 4/29/43 Mrs. […]‘s ltr.: “A friend of mine was on the train with a gentleman [[2345]?] who told her all about how much you had helped his daughter [[2153]?].”
R4. 12/29/43 Father’s letter: “Mrs. [2344] and [2153] are getting along very nicely and wish to be remembered to you.”
R5. 2/25/47 Letter from Frank P. Dobbins re [2153] to HLC:
“Was very much interested in your “Abstract #3” dated 3/1/47 subject Epilepsy.
“I’m afraid that I can’t help you very much in this particular disease as I had only one case a [2153]. She came to me from, I believe somewhere in W. Virginia & was with me for some weeks. The results in her case were very disappointing and to the best of my recollection there was no improvement. I can not place my hands on her reading & can not for that reason fill out the progress card. I will however look further and see if I can find the reading. I do remember she was taking phenobarbital & dilantin sodium and it was Grand Mal type.
“I liked the abstract and thought it well presented and you may be very sure I shall use it when and if.”
Sincerely yours, Frank P. Dobbins

R6. 3/1/47 HLC’s letter:
ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INCORPORATED Virginia Beach, Virginia To Physicians Interested in the Records Left by Edgar Cayce re: EPILEPSY
We are especially interested in this disease because of the following statement from a reading:
“THIS ORGANIZATION MAY GIVE MUCH TO THE WORLD ON ONE PARTICULAR DISTURBANCE THAT HAS BAFFLED THE WISE AND THE FOOLISH…MAKE A SPECIAL STUDY OF THAT CALLED EPILEPSY - FOR THREE YEARS - AND YOU WILL BE UNDEFEATABLE.” 254-82, 1/12/35
I would like to quote briefly from a letter written by Dr. Henry George III, of Wilmington, Delaware, to the Philadelphia Members of our Advisory Board:
“It is an easy matter to make a statement as to the efficacy of any drug or modality, but it requires time and study to substantiate that statement… No doubt all of you have had personal experiences in treating patients in accordance with the directions of Mr. Edgar Cayce. Probably we all have accepted him as one who possessed a supernatural power and one who would use that power for the elevation of mankind, but it is not incombranced upon those with whom we associate to accept this opinion - that is the purpose of this group and of the Foundation. In order to do this we must dig back and check and utilize the case histories with an up-to-date progress record that will enable us to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Mr. Cayce’s recommendations…
“His treatment should be of enormous concern to those interested in physical medicine as the key to the treatment of epilepsy as outlined; in osteopathic vertebral mobilization of specific segmental levels and manipulation and stimulation by hydrotherapy, by oil packs, by massage of the lacteal, the gall bladder and the abdominal viscera. These significant findings which have been in accord with osteopathic teaching should be proven…
“I hope that it will be possible through the cooperation of this group of physicians to effectively present the material in such a form that men who never have heard and may never hear of Edgar Cayce may yet use his suggestions in the treatment of the human ills.
“We ask that you fill in and return the enclosed progress card with your notes and comments REGARDING CASES OF EPILEPSY YOU HAVE TREATED IN THE PAST. This will help confirm or contradict our findings. Upon receipt of your progress card, we will then mail you another card for recording your notes and comments on future cases of epilepsy coming to you for treatment. AND WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL MAKE AN EFFORT TO CHECK THE FINDINGS IN THIS ABSTRACT WITH NEW EPILEPSY CASES.
“Your suggestions and comments will be helpful.”
Sincerely yours, Hugh Lynn Cayce
