This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of April, 1940, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [2078], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:45 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Indiana.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2159].

3. As we find, there are disturbing conditions which prevent the better normal functionings through the system. This is the beginning of that which has been called sclerosis, or multiple sclerosis; that is, the effect in the system is that the nerve forces in the locomotories have gradually been diminished as to their effective activity in the system.

4. This has caused the inability of locomotion to any great extent, without excruciating pain and weariness; one portion of the nerve impulse being lost.

5. Then, this is an affectation of the assimilating system, - caused through the lack of certain characters of vitamins in the system, or the inability of the system to USE same owing to the glandular disturbance also.

6. While the administrations being made in the present are retarding somewhat, or in a gentle manner, the progress of the condition, we find that they are not aiding the system to supply that needed.

7. This may be materially aided, as we find, by the addition - to that now being administered - of the low electrical vibrations which would carry elements into the system vibratorially; thus aiding the vital forces and energies as supplied through the activity of the assimilating forces of the system to stimulate activity.

8. For the first four weeks the Appliance would carry only the Chloride of Gold Solution, in the proportions of one grain to each ounce of distilled water.

9. This would be applied each day for thirty minutes, and the attachments would be as follows:

One day the small copper plate would be attached to the 4th lumbar plexus, the next day to the 6th dorsal center; while the larger nickel plate, through which the Gold Solution passes vibratorially, would be attached each day at the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus, - or four fingers directly across to the right from the umbilical center, one finger up from that center, see?

11. Also we would give the body liver extract. Even this given hypodermically will not be amiss; but first we would take all that the body will assimilate. This broiled, as well as taken in extract, would be well for the body. The dose of the extract would be only a teaspoonful once a day, but at least every other day eat a little liver, - broiled, preferably.

12. Not too great an exercise, but keep in the sunshine whenever practical; and what exercise is taken would be either in the sunshine or in attempting to swim in water, - not too cold water, to be sure, but as oft in this character of exercise as practical.

13. Do these, if we would bring the better conditions for this body, [2159].

15. (Q) What can her mother do to help her to help herself? (A) Assist in seeing that those suggestions here indicated are adhered to, as consistently as is practical.

16. (Q) Does she have strength to take short walks? (A) Not in the present; and only take same, as indicated, in sunshine or in the open. When the body feels a little more impulse, keep it in the open as much as practical, and with as few clothes on as practical.

17. (Q) Should she have a routine program of some sort? (A) These applications and such exercises will necessarily bring about something of a routine. Each day the vibrations of the Gold through the Wet Cell Appliance would be used for thirty minutes; and also the exercises through the character of manipulations and adjustments that are being given; and each day that is practical the exercise in the pool or in the water. All of these will make a routine, naturally; and if there is to be the health gained, it must be carried out.

Do that.

18. (Q) What causes extreme pain in her legs and the constant rhythmic beating in them that she complains of? (A) As just indicated, the lack of the nerve tissue or force to carry the impulse for activity.

19. (Q) Any other advice? (A) Do that indicated.

“I do hope the suggestions for your daughter find some response in her feelings in the matter; sufficient for her to do something about same, or else I’m very sure she will be an invalid the rest of her life if the information is anything like true. But here is some hope offered and I feel sure it will help if given the opportunity.

“Glad you are better. Keep the good work up. Let us hear from you.

R2. 4/6/40 Mother [2078]‘s letter to EC:

“Thank you so much for the reading which came promptly. I did not tell you that my daughter had suffered a nervous breakdown at the same time I did. Her mental state is MUCH, MUCH improved, but it has taken a long, long pull to reach the present level. She still suffers from certain phobias and her fears are not nearly all quelled, so I did not let her see the reading, for fear of alarming her. I read excerpts from it, and she is deadwilling, as I knew she would be, to begin the treatments. I have written today to the Health Home Remedies Corporation to see if we can arrange purchase terms for the Wet Cell Appliance. Incidentally, I will say here that I know that the reading for [2159] has increased my obligation to you by ten dollars. Be assured, Mr. Cayce, that I shall take care of it as rapidly as possible.

“Regarding the eating of liver which you recommend for [2159]: She is allergic to liver. The smell of it cooking makes her ill. Would it be possible for her to substitute an extra spoonful of extract every other day? You prescribed that some liver, in addition to regular dosage (one spoonful), should be eaten every other day.

“We shall adhere to prescribed treatment in your reading, as nearly as possible for us to do. And thank you, thank you, dear Mr. Cayce…”

R3. 4/22/40 EC’s letter to Mother [2078]:

“I found yours of the 6th on my return from a two week stay in New York. I gave a lecture while there at the McAlpin Hotel. It was a very fine meeting. I just hope I did some good while there. I gave two readings each day.

“I’m glad you find a sympathetic response with [2159]. I was under the impression there must be something amiss about the eating of liver, as she was told to take a spoonful. Yes, use the extract. Broil, press the juice out and season to taste.

“I did not see Miss [954] while in New York but I heard from her and is in Bronxville for the work. I find outside the city proper much easier on me than staying right in town.

“I hope you are continuing on the improve and with all good wishes and regards…”

R4. 5/28/40 Mother [2078]‘s letter to EC:

“Another one of your friends is hoping that you and Mrs. Cayce have returned from your trip south greatly refreshed. You certainly have earned a vacation. I was interested in the brief report of your stay in New York, although quite sorry that Miss [954] did not get to see you. She is one of your most faithful disciples.

“[2159] is some improved through that part of your prescribed treatment (from reading) that she has been able to take. Her father has been quite ill for seven weeks but is improving now, and she has had to forego a part of the treatment, the Wet Cell Appliance, which we are purchasing from Health Home Remedies. Mr. […] is radically opposed to anything of psychic nature and we could not use the Appliance because he would have wanted an explanation. As I told you before, our home is quite small and when Mr. […] is home, as naturally he has been and still is, there is little we can do except in our thought because of the discord that would result. However, we are hopeful of getting started on the use of the mechanism next week.

“While I am more or less at a standstill in my recovery, my side bothers me quite a bit at times and the lump in my breast is still there. I’m sure you will be pleased to know that my daughter and myself have been able to take care of my husband through his bronchial pneumonia and bad heart condition. For two weeks he was VERY ill but is improving nicely, though slowly, now.

“I am enclosing another payment on my fee for your excellent work…”

“P.S. If you wish to acknowledge receipt of this letter, please do NOT do so for two or three weeks. It will be better so.”

R5. 7/14/40 Mother [2078]‘s letter to EC:

“Will you write me at once? That is, at your earliest possible convenience - additional directions concerning the treatment of my daughter, [2159] with the Wet Cell Appliance.

Your first instructions stipulated that ‘For the first four weeks the Appliance would carry only the Chloride of Gold Solution, in the proportions of one grain to each ounce of distilled water.’ The four weeks will be up very shortly and I want to know what sort of treatment should follow. Also, according to instructions on the Wet Cell Appliance itself, it soon will be time to empty the large jar containing copper sulphate, sulphuric acid, zinc and charcoal, as well as the special solution container.

“[2159] has shown marked improvement, mostly in her understanding and her outlook upon life. She is calmer a great deal of the time and takes much more interest in things. However, her legs still pain very much most of the time. Although there has been an improvement, the few words that have gone around and around in her mind; ‘murders, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods,’ from the time she became so ill, continue. She describes them as being ‘so automatic that they appear to be a part of my nervous system or heartbeat.’ Her skin is much better, showing a greatly improved circulation and, I presume, better assimilation of food. It makes me quite happy to give you this report.

“Will you be good enough to write soon directing me further about [2159] and about my own breast? If there is any additional fee, I shall take care of it. Before the month is over, I shall remit another payment on my present indebtedness, although I know as do you, there are some things that cannot be paid for in dollars and cents…”

R6. 7/25/40 EC’s letter to Mother [2078]:

“I have yours of the 21st. I am sorry that at this time you, just as each of us seem to be, are so conscious of money matters. I only wish I knew how never to have to mention such a thing to anyone that asks for help, and was trying my best to ask you not to worry or even think of that at this time. What I wished to do is to be of service, a help if possible. Of course, from the forty years of experience, I may tell you something, but am never quite sure of my conscious self. Too often has the judgment been reversed when not so conscious.

“But I will tell you as best I can and take it for yourself as to whether it answers to something within your own self.

“For [2159], I would continue all her treatments if possible; especially the Wet Cell Appliance. Have same recharged. For the charge, it is 1 1/2 gallon of distilled water; copper sulphate, 1 1/2 pounds; sulphuric acid C.P., one ounce; zinc, three drams. Stir solution with a stick, to be sure. But you can obtain it all at your local druggist…”

R7. 10/26/40 Mother [2078]‘s letter reporting on her own breast operation:

“[2159] improves slowly and she stood up wonderfully well under the ordeal of my operation. She continues to experience some phobias but I believe they are gradually growing lighter.

“Thank you so much for your note of interest in our welfare and also for your invitation to Virginia Beach. Am so happy you have enlarged to have a record building. Beginning the first of the year, I want to contribute something toward it, from time to time.

“May I hear from you soon…”

R8. 3/29/41 “My daughter and I continue to improve slowly, but I know, very surely. Of this I shall write you a little later.”

R9. 5/12/41 “Happy to tell you that [2159] and I continue to improve - slowly, but improving nevertheless. Am still mindful of my indebtedness to you, the most important of which cannot be paid in material form.”

R10. 9/9/41 “[2159] and I continue to improve, though slowly. Her nerves are improved somewhat and her outlook more optimistic.”

R11. 9/13/41 EC’s letter to Mother [2078]:

“Thank you for yours of the 9th; also for the help on the place for records. Yes, we have so much to be thankful for. All the friends of the work have helped out so lovely and are making it possible to have such nice quarters now. I am very grateful and all praise to HIM. They have completed the work on rooms and I believe the contributions will aid us to keep up the payments until all is paid. Thank you for your help.

“I am very glad that you and [2159] keep on the improve. I just hope you will keep the good work up until you are your normal good selves. I heard from Miss [954] this last week. She seems to have had a nice vacation and is settling down for the fall and inter work…”

R12. 10/27/41 Mother [2078]‘s letter to EC:

“Your last letter pleased me very much with its news of progress on the record room. I hope WE ALL are responding as we should to this splendid work. Your news of Miss [954] was welcome; I have not heard from her in a long while, except through you. I am always joyed to know that things go well with her. [2159] and I continue to improve; our methods at present being largely in prayer. BELIEF is easy for those of us who have always believed in the Omnipotence of God, but Faith seems to grow rather slowly - at least with us. But we are keeping on keeping on.

“With all good wishes and the hope that everything goes well with you…”

R13. 10/31/41 EC’s letter to Mother [2078]:

“Thanks for yours of the 27th. It’s mighty nice of you to remember us here. The offices are fine. I wish you might see the place now. We are gradually getting books in the Library now. Some of our friends remember us now and then and hope to some day have one of the nicest Libraries of its kind in the country. I certainly hope we may continue to be of a service in appreciation of the Divine love shown us by so many of our friends. All praise and thanks to HIM.

“I’m glad to hear you and Miss [2159] are on the improve. It’s hard to hold on to the Faith now and then, but is as was said to Him ages ago, ‘Thou alone hast the words of eternal life.’

“Thanks again for everything. I heard from Miss [954] this morning. She is very fine. I hope to see her in the next week or so, as we go to New York for two weeks on the 9th.”

She told me sometime ago that she could not bear to know when you were to give her a reading. She is frightened about herself so much of the time. Her full name is [2159]; her birthdate, November 5, 1907. During the period of your reading, I shall observe the hour in quiet meditation.

“I did not ask Dr. Wynkoop [Florence M. Wynkoop, D.C.] if there were any questions she wishes to ask concerning [2159]. I have been with my daughter during every treatment she has had and I have observed enough to believe that Dr. W. is not at all sure as to the seat of the physical part of the trouble. She would not admit it, although I am sure she is carrying on her experimentation very conscientiously. [2159]‘s illness is of long standing. I should like to know particularly: What causes the extreme pain in her legs and the constant rhythmatic beating in them that she complains of? This pain is also experienced in her arms, though not so severe. Is there something lacking in her diet? What can I do to help her to help herself?

“Should she have a routine program of some sort that she should follow whether she feels equal to it or not? Does she not have the strength to take short walks or is it imagination?”
