This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of December, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2185], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:40 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2185].
-
Now as we find, there are disturbing conditions that prevent the better normal physical functioning.
-
While their reactions are in some instances specific, the effect is rather from a general debilitation; affecting reactions in the glandular systems as to produce specific disorders or disturbances.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [2185]:
-
As we find, there has been an unbalanced condition through the activity of the chemical forces in the body. Thus there is a lacking in the elements, - as in iodine and calcium, - to cause a disturbance in the metabolism, and in the glandular forces of the system especially as related to the activities of the thyroid and portions of the adrenals.
-
These produce specific disturbances, then, - as the fullness in the throat, with external glandular swelling; and the body easily becomes acid.
-
Also these affect the vision, as well as quickening the pulse at times and at others it is quite below normal. A disturbed metabolism, and at times the weakness, tiredness, is a result of the general disturbances.
-
To correct these conditions, we would follow these applications, - taken consistently, one with the other; not the one WITHOUT the other, in any case or form:
-
Begin first and take internally one minim (drop) of Atomidine in half a glass of water each morning before the meal is taken, for about ten days. Then leave it off.
-
At the end of the ten day period of taking the Atomidine (not before), begin with the general osteopathic adjustments; with special reference being given to the lumbar area and to the cervical and the upper dorsal area. We would take two each week until at least twelve such adjustments have been taken. These osteopathic treatments we would have administered by Dobbins.
-
On the day that the third osteopathic adjustment is taken, begin taking CALCIOS (not before). Only take a small quantity every other day, just about the quantity that would be spread upon a whole wheat cracker as if buttering it. Take it for two weeks in this manner, then leave it off for two weeks, and then take again. This, along with the other changes wrought by the treatments, will be a stimuli toward a better chemical reaction through the system.
-
After taking the twelve adjustments osteopathically, (not before) begin with the low electrical treatments for the eyes. These we would have made by Erlanger. We will find it necessary that at least some fifteen such treatments be given. Give them about once or twice a week in the beginning, gradually leaving them off toward the latter portion of the series until they are being taken about once a week; or gradually make them farther apart, see?
-
When beginning with the Erlanger low electrical treatments for the eyes, begin also with the Atomidine again; taking it (in the same dosage) for five days, then leave off five days, then take for five days again, and so on.
-
In the diet, - be mindful that there is plenty of fruit juice taken each day; at least three times a week grate a fresh raw carrot and eat it - either between the meals or at the lunch hour. This will be a helpful force for the glandular system as well as the activities of the digestive system, the kidneys, and those tendencies for the accumulations that tend to segregate themselves.
-
Doing these, we will not find it necessary for operative measures, - IF those applications are followed in the ORDER and manner as outlined.
-
(Q) Is there any indication of a malignant growth? (A) Not as we find. There ARE those separations indicated, because of this combination of the glandular forces.
Do these as indicated, if we would bring the better forces for this body.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 12/15/40 [2185]‘s letter to EC:
[Letterhead:] Plan to Visit New York World’s Fair New York
My dear Mr. Cayce;-
Your report received Friday & how simple the treatment is for such an accurately described condition as you gave me. I only spoke of the eyes & throat but the weakness, exhaustion, etc. are so absolutely true, I have been going to a chiropractor for the last year & he has done me so very much good but I guess the chemical deficiencies would allow his help to reach so far & no further.
Please answer me a question or two. On page 2 - you spoke of plenty of fruit juice in the diet [2185-2, Par. 15], does that mean specifically JUICE & about how much of it a day or could fruit be used, too. This body is 90% everything but meat, I use much fruit & do not know whether to cut down on fruit in favor of the juice. Also, would a carrot daily be too frequent, I can eat them as heartily as an apple.
In speaking of calcios, did you mean to advise taking it spread on a cracker as described?
My chiropractor [Bernard J. Shea, D.C.] is greatly interested in your work & tried not only last spring to hear you but also this fall, but unfortunately Tuesday is a big office day & evening. He is a young man about 37 with the new long training course as a background & a very conscientious doctor. Should so like to have him meet you sometime, at present he is teaching three mornings a week in N.Y. here. He will be greatly interested in your report tomorrow, too bad you did not advise a chiro instead of an osteo.
The report was wonderful & this reading, too, was recommended from those who know you on other planes, in fact, a Patriarch, that is the only way I know him on October 23 told me it was an “absolute decree” not to have my throat tampered with. The life reading of last May [2185-1] was also recommended, as I wrote you, out of a clear sky thru the same source and she [2799] is the wife of [2421] for whom you read yesterday.
They both are most anxious for life readings when they see their way clear financially.
Thank you & thank you, will commence & “to the letter” as I was told to do after I return from Christmas with my mother in Phila.
Being one of those tenacious Scorpios you can well know will have no regret when I finish your advice.
Very gratefully, (Mrs.) [2185] - December 15, 1940
R2. 12/17/40 EC’s letter to [2185]:
Dear Mrs. [2185]
Thank you very much for yours of the 15th am glad you liked the reading - and feel will you follow the suggestions as given you will get wonderful results. Would like very much to meet your Dr. and do hope may have that opportunity, am sure he is excellent in his school. But would suggest that you try that as suggested for you at this time, there surely must be a difference - for the information often suggests Chiropractic, and even for those who have been taking the Osteopathic - had such very recently with my own Secy. and she has never had more than one Chiro. in her experience - and she has been with us now 17 years.
Now your questions - would keep up the fruit diet by all means - but would include a bit more of the juices - and the Carrot - every one to me should eat a fresh raw carrot every day - sure keep that up.
Yes - Calcios it suggests this be taken on a wafer - whole wheat if you like, or the premium wafer this is very nice am told. Have seen it but never taken it myself.
Hope you have a most pleasant visit for Christmas - and a joyous and happy one.
Thanking you - and assuring you am glad to hear at any time and to be of help if practical.
With the seasons Greetings
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R3. 1/2/41 Dr. Bernard J. Shea’s [D.C.] letter: “Through Mrs. [2185] I have come to know a good deal about you and the fine work you are doing. I have also had the opportunity of reading several of your pamphlets, and the case histories of several of the people involved. It is indeed remarkable how your revelations have brought out the true and causical factors of their ailments, after all other diagnoses have failed to do so.
“While under my care, specifically for an arthritic condition of the spine, she has improved remarkably well. The exostosis or bony outgrowths from the vertebra have become almost absorbed, the anklyoses have been broken up, and the spine itself has been pretty much corrected.”
R4. 1/25/41 [2185]‘s letter to EC:
New York, N.Y.
My dear Mr. Cayce;-
This letter is in regard to the physical reading you gave me in December. I think I have obeyed your directions to the letter so far, today I had my ninth treatment from Dr. Dobbins three more to take me up to Feb. 7.
Found him expensive, $5.00 a visit & that these days is too steep for my purse but the twelve shall be taken. I wrote Dr. Erlanger you had directed me to him for fifteen treatments & to please let me have a price for them, this morning he phoned & would not give me a price until he saw what was the matter with the eyes, I said your advice was etc., etc.
I understand he is a Jew refugee & I wonder does he know what your status is all about. Frankly & honestly, I do not want a Jewish doctor attending my body & especially the eyes. I have no faith or confidence in them when they touch a Christian, their love for us is not very deep.
I know you are not responsible for the advice you give those who call upon you but have you a Christian doctor you can recommend for said treatments or could I find one for myself? You will speak frankly - I know.
Was amused at Erlanger. In his broken English he said - “I hope Mr. Cayce will send me all his patients, I cured this case & that one & some were serious.” I thot with an amused smile Oh yes?
Hoping you will accept this letter as I mean it & being the grand person you are I am sure you will.
Sincerely [2185]
It is surprising how little the doctors understand, even Dobbins.
R5. 1/31/41 EC’s letter to [2185]:
Dear Mrs. [2185]
Have yours of the 27th - do appreciate your writing me - trust you are feeling a great deal better from the treatments from Dr. Dobbins and feel sure you will. As for the other man Mrs. [2185] do not know him at all only that the information has sent several to him - and from reports each have really gotten help, can understand how some may feel an aversion to go to someone like that, but if they do their work well and are sincere, wouldn’t know just what to say, would that the information would suggest some one else, of a different faith but possible, most of us need something to break down an aversion. But who am I to tell you what or how you should think. Possibly Dr. Dobbins may suggest some one to you, or possibly we could ask the information under the circumstances just what course you should pursue in the matter - would you like for me to try that for you?
You may know of some one who could and would do the work better that is in keeping with your feelings in the matter - know it is never good for one to go to any man to whom they have a real aversion.
Let me know what you would like for me to try - if as suggested will be glad to try at no expense to you.
Thanking you and do hope you are feeling much better.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R6. 1/15/42 [2185]‘s letter to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce;-
About a year ago I had a physical reading from you & now think I would like a check-up, enclosed find check for ten dollars ($10). Understand I am privileged to ask some questions too.
- Are the eyes better or worse than a year ago?
- The neck condition feels very full at times & quite annoys me; please an opinion.
- What would be the proper food for my system as well as this arthritis condition?
- Four years ago last summer I had a tumor in the uterus, both were removed, all was successful & non-malignant according to laboratory reports. For several months I have been uncomfortable in that area & last nite discovered blood. Kindly tell me the truth of the condition found & the treatment for it.
Never having had a check-up before I do not know if it includes advice for treatment, as does a physical reading.
I lived at the … Hotel, N.Y.C. when you read me, I am now residing at … Ave., …, Penna & for the reading will be on my bed - third floor front.
Prefer the morning appointment & any day will suit except Friday.
I would be very glad to acquiesce in the prayer for Divine Guidance [See 1/8/42 letter under 2678-1 Background].
Hoping to hear from you soon & also hoping you & your family are well, I am
Very sincerely yours, (Mrs.) [2185]
R7. 1/23/42 [2185]‘s letter to EC:
Blessed person - weren’t you kind to answer my letter so promptly? Thank you a lot.
Monday A.M. will be perfect for me & I shall be on my bed, as I said.
Yes - there are some other conditions that could be asked about.
- Why is the heart so fluttery & unstable?
- Recently an unusually sharp pain above kidney area, right side, has annoyed me.
The food question I am particularly interested in:
My diet is nine-tenths fruit & vegetables, am I doing right or should meat enter in for my system?
Awfully anxious for the report. Will answer it.
Again, thank you, dear friend of man
Sincerely, Mrs. [2185] - 1-23-42

Mrs. [2185] New York City
My dear Mr. Cayce;-
I am very anxious for one of your physical readings. Thot I could wait until I came down for the Congress in June - which I am very anxious to do but this unwelcome body discomfort of mine will not allow me to “wait.”
Please listen to my story.
The last five years or so have seen this body slipping down hill, really sick August 1937, a large tumor in uterus was removed, right ovary and appendix. I experienced great benefit from that operation. September 1938, a pair of very nasty tonsils were taken out at that time the doctor said there was a very small tumor on thyroid gland & to watch it. The last month or so the neck has annoyed me greatly, pressure on the throat tubes, heart behaves very unnaturally, eyes are slipping in vision rapidly, nerves are sick, arthritis annoys me, the whole head is miserable & most of the time I feel exhausted. (Sounds terrific, doesn’t it?) but still I laugh at myself nevertheless I need advice & need it quickly. Have very little confidence in doctors & I must get to the cause so turn to you. Have been a student seeking Truth since early 1927 so I well understand the meaning of the term “Soul,” you use.
I live alone & at the present time cannot stand it so want to go to my Mother in Phila. soon as possible. Could you possibly give me an emergency appointment any time this week up to & including Friday? If I get in Phila. without having contacted you Mother will want M.D.’s to look me over & probably operate.
Do I make the situation clear?
Will fill out the blank & if you can take care of me this week send your appointment date & I will send check by return mail. I do not send it now because of the possibility of the other doctor. Please understand my point of view.
I do so hope you can give me a Reading soon if not please write me just as soon as possible in answer to this letter. The reason I cannot be alone is on account of this throat obstruction pressing & choking me.
Hoping to hear from you quickly,
I am Sincerely, [2185]
B2. 5/10/39 EC wrote that he would be unable to get her reading that week due to previous appointments: “Do sincerely hope everything will go well with you. If it does become necessary for the operation, hope we may be of some help in aiding you to recuperate much faster. Please let us hear from you. Am mighty sorry but just can’t help it. Know that we will be praying with and for you.”
B3. 4/25/40 She wrote for a Life Reading, saying: “About this time last spring I wanted an emergency reading concerning the head and eyes but could not get one so had some sinus probing done. This year when I feel comparatively fine, along comes this order to clear up a condition that must be deep, so deep that only you can help me.” [See first part of letter in Par. B1 above.]
B4. 5/4/40 She obtained her Life Reading - 2185-1. [See correspondence under 2185-1 Reports relating to it.]
B5. 11/30/40 She requested a Physical Rdg.
B6. 12/9/40 [2185]‘s letter to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce:-
Thank you very much for the appointment, it was awaiting me when I returned home last night.
I attended your first lecture at the hotel but for the Jewish Thanksgiving visited friends who - by the way, came to the lecture with me & the husband by this time has probably had a reading from you. For the true Thanksgiving I was away for two weeks so could not well see you, in fact I spoke to your son but the time convenient for me was not so for you.
As to questions -
EYES - 1. Why is the vision becoming dimmer & what shall I do for them? 2. THROAT - Is the thyroid gland ill? Is there a malignant growth? Is an operation necessary?
Hope this is all satisfactory attended to from this end. I await your report with great anticipation.
Very sincerely, (Mrs.) [2185] - December 8, ‘40
