This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 26th day of January, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2185], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:40 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Penna.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2185]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, some conditions are bettered, - some conditions are in a state where the disturbances appear to be aggravated.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them in the present with this body, [2185] we are speaking of:
-
As we find, excesses of forms of vitamins or energies that have been taken in the body - with those hindrances through portions of the system - have not been distributed as they might have been, if there had been a better relaxation of the ganglia that supply the eliminating system - or systems.
-
This has produced the inclination for the formation of pockets and of lymph cells becoming exaggerated through portions of the body. This becomes very aggravating at times, as well as producing broken tissue that WITHOUT the absorption or elimination through normal channels may bring about the formation of pockets that may form into conditions hard to control.
-
Also this has that inclination to produce irregularity to the blood pressure and the irregularity in the circulation - the attempts, as it were, to force circulation through congested areas.
-
These tend to form disturbing conditions about muscular forces, - eyes, ears, throat, abdominal area, pelvic organs, AND all channels for elimination.
-
As we find, then, these need practical attention and specific applications.
-
Not that precautions are not to be taken as to the heart’s irregularities, but as we find the better applications would be the hydrotherapy - with a little dry heat, just sufficient to cause the beginning of perspiration, and then a fume bath. The fume bath would preferably be with witchhazel, - about two teaspoonsful in a pint of water - that may be set in a croup cup or fume cup in the dry heat cabinet, the other heat turned off when the fumes are turned on, see?
-
Following the Fume Bath there would be a very gentle but thorough massage, and especially along the spinal areas in the upper cervical, or throughout the cervical, upper dorsal area, and from the 8th or 9th dorsal through the sacral area. Follow this then with a good rub, preferably for this body an equal combination of Olive Oil and Peanut Oil, - all the body will absorb, - which should include the muscular forces of arms and head, the neck and shoulders, and the lower limbs and feet. This would be followed, of course, by an alcohol rub to close the pores.
-
Such a general hydrotherapy treatment would be given once a week.
-
Also once a week, other than this but not at the same time, have an osteopathic adjustment; with special reference to all centers setting up better eliminations through the body. In the massage and manipulation (and we would have such as Soden), there should be used a good, thorough manipulation to the head, neck, eyes and throat. This will tend to relieve this fullness in throat, bringing better conditions for eyes and relieving the tensions throughout the body.
-
In the matter of the diet, - we would include, in the beginning, vegetable soups, fish soups, small quantities of fish, lamb stew - not too much of fat nor too much of meats in the first. These will make a better distribution of the energies that have been assimilated but not distributed through the body, that are causing a great deal of distress in the centers where there are those forms of lesions preventing this distribution.
-
At least once a week we would take a Glyco-Thymoline douche for the irritation that has been indicated through the pelvis or uterus. The excess of lymph and the tendency for adherence of tissue causes this disturbance. It may become very aggravating unless healing forces are used. Have the water body temperature, putting a quart and a half of water with two tablespoonsful of the Glyco-Thymoline. Use only a Fountain Syringe.
-
Do these.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Are the eyes better or worse than a year ago? (A) In the present they are worse, but this is acute from general disturbances that are in some effects worse. But as we find, with these corrections and the use of these properties all just as given, we should bring much help for this body.
-
(Q) What is the unusually sharp pain above kidney area, right side? (A) Pressure of lymph pockets upon the capsules about the kidneys. Too much lymph not distributed properly.
Do the things as indicated. Do them consistently, and we will find bettered conditions.
- We are through for the present.

If you find a good hydrotherapist, let us have his name and address, please.)
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/12/42 “That last Physical Rdg. was a splendid one. When vitamins were mentioned I was indeed surprised, as dehydrated vegetables in tablet form I had taken steadily for a year or nearly so. Celery tablets, an arthritis tablet, liver tablet & a seaplant one, too. Tho’t I was building the body up well that way, as I could not get fresh vegetables in the raw state while living in a hotel. Just the very thing we think is best for us sometimes proves our undoing, does it not? And when vitamins was spoken of first thing I was truly astounded. Stopped them immediately & immediately the cervix disturbance began to subside.
“The next thing was the doctor. Last Nov. I came down with excruciating pain in the muscles generally all over the body but which finally localized in the shoulders & upper part. I went to an osteopath & while undergoing treatments naturally spoke of you, she was much interested. I offered to bring my first Physical for her to see but Christmas being almost at hand I stopped for a month but did intend to go back for massage. I had intended a Ck. Rdg. with you since last June but somehow never got to it. So when the ck. up came I called her for information as to who & what Dr. Soden was. She said he was a personal friend of theirs & a fine doctor. He teaches at the College of Osteopathy where she does. I took the ck. up to her & we went over it. She was genuinely interested thru & thru. I explained how the information had to be followed as given & would she be willing to do as advised. She most certainly would be. Let me explain this. She [Marion A. Dick, D.O.] married a man [J. Francis Smith, D.O.] blinded in the last war. He too is an osteopath. They have a house of which the 1st 2 floors are devoted to patients, the 2 upper floors are given to their home. They have hydrotherapy, colonic treatments, lights, machines of different kinds. A most complete lay-out with always 2 nurses & sometimes 3 in attendance. As long as everything was under one doctor I preferred that to going to strange & different doctors. You understand, I know. And I’m telling you all this because you asked if I found a good hydrotherapist to let you know. Am enclosing their literature which I’m sure will interest you. They have the old-fashioned heat cabinet in which one sits up & is so weakening as well as the one horizontal box pictured in which one can recline. Your directions were followed & when the water & witchhazel solution was poured into the pan for vaporization, I just lay in that hyper - & the water ran off me. It was grand while the rest of the treatment was taking place. I raved about the bath. This is really funny. When I went in Monday for the osteo. treatment Dr. Dick said she thot I was exaggerating when I raved but she took one herself & loved it as much as I did. I just blurted out - well, we can learn from the other world, can’t we? It is really a pleasure to work with her. If you ever speak in Phila. please let us know, she said she would even go to NY to hear you & as soon as she gets her income tax off intends to have a Physical Rdg. herself. She is very spiritually minded & pleased with me for having brot this new knowledge into her life. By the way, she taught Dr. Dobbins of N.Y.
By the way, Dr. Smith (Dr. Dick’s husband) was a friend of Sir Arthur Pearson of London who was blinded in 1914 by glaucoma. Smith told me many times he has sat in Pearson’s drawing room listening to the most fascinating arguments between he & Conan-doyle, Pearson being a rank materialist & Doyle the opposite. Pearson founded St. (?) [St. Dunstan’s?] for the blind & reestablished (rehabilitated) 95% of the men blinded by the war who came to him. He accomplished a great work. Isn’t that interesting?” [She included the circulars and articles regarding the work of Dr. Dick and Dr. Smith. See Par. 5 below.]
R2. 2/16/42 EC’s ltr. to [2185]:
Dear Mrs. [2185]
Thanks so much for yours of the 12th - yours is one of the most interesting letters nearly ever read. Glad to hear from both of the Dr.’s also thank you so much for sending us their Literature - would like very much to meet and know them all - tell them I once had a treatment from Dr. A. T. Still, when I gave a reading for him many years ago [No copy of this reading. GD], and am still in touch with those in charge of the Macon Hospital and the School in Kirksville.
Some times as the information suggests one can be taking what they feel is right and it not be assimilated by the system - that is evidently you were doing with yourself.
Most interesting what you tell me about the Dr.’s. Glad you have someone who is acquainted with Dr. Dobbins for he has sufficient experience with the readings to be able to tell one interested just what may be expected through the information - he has had marvelous success in many many cases. Am sure you were quite right in having the one Dr. do the whole work especially when she would cooperate with the reading.
Where these vapor baths are recommended they have proven most satisfactory - the witchhazel fume stimulates the superficial circulation and helps rid system of the poisons in same. Glad she tried it out her self and glad you like it. Am sure you will get results. Yes - the massage after the fume bath should be for the entire body, and the oils over same also.
Would take the treatments as long as necessary to get rid of the stiffness and the pains in the body - then taper off of them but every now and then have another to keep self in shape.
The Mental and Spiritual is very good and many who have had them get more out of the than any - tho these are spiritual to be true - No very seldom is anything of a prophetic nature given any one save in a general way the readings are on the theory that each soul is a free will agent, and may change whatever might happen from Karma of any such thing - many have warnings as you no doubt did in your LIFE reading but only as warnings.
Thanks for the interesting not regards Dr. Smith - certainly would like to meet your friends there - hope may have that pleasure sometime - possibly may be able to arrange some meeting when next go to N.Y. for a lecture or talk to membership there. Have quite a nice membership in Philadelphia but have never spoken there.
Thanking you for your letter - do hope you keep on the improve and let us hear from you again.
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
Ask you friends would they like to see case reports be glad to send them some if interested.
R3. 9/3/43 [2185]‘s ltr. to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce;-
After months of having this check before me I will at last get it off to you. Am truly ashamed not to have sent it off when the book arrived but have been thru such deep, deep waters I became careless. Am now finishing a nightmare of over a year in a so called “co-operative community in Utah” under the dictatorship of Marie Ogden. When get settled in Philadelphia I will want a physical check up as my health has gone way back since I finished with your advice taken under Dr. Marion Hick of Phila. & I came out here in such good condition.
Trust I will be able to get an appointment when I want it. Expect to leave here this week. If ever you have anyone come to you for advice about “The House of Truth”, Moab, Utah, as a community in which to live absolutely advise against it.
Will read the book soon as I can get to it.
Sincerely [2185]
