This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of May, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [2207], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by New York meetings of the Association.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:35 to 10:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
Now, as we find, conditions that affect the body are partially prenatal; or at the time of conception, in those centers about which activity began, there was a lack - or an uneven number - of cycles.
-
This in the activity in the system has developed a lack of glandular activity through the body, which hinders that plasm that forms the structural portion of the muscular forces and tendons of the body.
-
That this has not been, with the age, a progressive condition, presents rather an unusual circumstance.
-
However, we find that this is due to the form or manner of physical activities and the diets to which the body has adhered.
-
As we find, there may be a systematic application of those influences which would prove most beneficial to this body.
-
Then, it would be necessary that there be a consistent and a persistent effort in this direction.
-
At those periods when there is the New Moon (and not before) - the day of the New Moon, you see - and this has just passed, of course, about three, four or five days - but we would begin at that period with taking internally one minim (drop) of Atomidine in half a glass of water each morning before the meal is taken, - only one drop. Do this each day for ten days.
-
Then begin taking one ounce of Carrot Juice, from raw fresh carrots, at or with the noon meal. Use a Juicer to extract the juice from the raw, fresh carrots. Do this each day.
-
Each day with the evening meal take one ounce of Beet Juice, from cooked beets, - but cooked in their OWN juice, as in Patapar Paper, and using only the juice that comes from same. They may be cut and placed in the Patapar Paper, for this will allow more of the juice to be released. Only use the beets themselves, not the beet tops in this instance; for this disturbance here is not of the nature that requires the influences from the beet tops, but only from the beets themselves - prepared each day; not pickled beets or the like, but the fresh beets cooked in their own juices.
-
Only use a little salt as seasoning for both the carrot juice and the beet juice, - just sufficient to make same palatable. Make or prepare the juices fresh each day, you see.
-
Keep the regular diet otherwise that has been followed by the body.
-
Refrain from the carrot and beet juices the days the Atomidine is taken for ten days, but keep these up until the day before the New Moon - that is, the juices, and then begin with the Atomidine for ten days; then the juices again.
-
Keep these up in this manner for several months; four to six months.
-
Then we would give further instructions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have received the Reading and found it to be very interesting. Also, I have obtained the atomidine preparation recommended for use in the ten days of each month beginning with the new moon. As the new moon for May has already gone by, I shall have to wait until next month to begin using this medicine containing iodine, trichloride and sodium chloride.
It appears that due to my mode of life it may be impracticable to follow to the letter the suggestions concerning the carrot and beet juices. However, I trust that by eating the raw vegetables the desired results will be achieved. I may say in this connection that intermittently in the past I have eaten various vegetables in this way with no recognizable ill effects. There would not seem to be present, therefore, the factor of unpalatibility which otherwise might be thought to be a deterrent to eating carrots and beets in the raw state.
Of course, if experience should show that this method is not effective, I shall have somehow to find a way to regularly obtain the juice as squeezed from the fresh carrot, as well as that from the beet boiled in its own juice in Patapar paper, according to the directions in the Reading.
Needless to say, the above will not be done in the spirit of presumed improvement on the prescription, but as a modification apparently not in essential contradiction and made necessary by present circumstances.
Again let me send my sincere appreciation for the Reading. I shall report in about six months in compliance with the instructions in the letter. [2207]
R2. 5/17/40 HLC’s ltr. to [2207]:
Mr. [2207] New York City.
Dear Mr. [2207]
My father is away on a short vacation, and I am taking the liberty of answering yours of the 13th.
I hope it will be possible for you to secure the juices daily just as indicated in the Reading, as it will enable you to receive a greater quantity of the needed vitamins. I would suggest that you make every effort to arrange this. We have found that it is most advisable to follow the information exactly to the letter, for apparently there is a very important matter of timing in connection with all the suggestions made. In other words, the medicine and diet would work together, and one would not be as effective as it should without the other.
We shall appreciate your keeping in touch with us regarding your case. It is an extremely interesting one, and I trust that we may be of service.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce HLC:GD

Dear Mr. Cayce -
I believe your letter of May 17 answers the points in my communication of the 13th to Mr. Edgar Cayce who I understand is on a short vacation. Many thanks for your interest. I shall do the best I can in following the Reading and report at the designated time.
Sincerely yours, [2207]

Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
In accordance with the suggestion in your communication of May 11th of this year, [2207] I apply herewith for a check physical reading, and enclose an additional $5 toward membership in the Association.
I can report that, seemingly as a result of following the recommendations, there has been a small but definite improvement in the condition. This was especially felt on the days when Atomidine was taken, as directed. It is difficult to give a quantitative appraisal, however.
This may be understood from the fact that there has always been a cyclic character in the energy level in the system, varying even under conditions when no medication was being followed. (In the past, and under other types of medication, there seemed at first to be an improvement, not sustained with the elapse of time.)
Secondly, and this is probably related to the above, the extent of improvement required in my case is so great, and the time element so considerable, as noted in your reading, that it is very likely too soon for valid self-judgement in the matter.
With this in mind, I should be interested to receive further ideas for treatment.
While recognizing that I am in no position to offer my own “prescription”, I should also be interested in knowing whether the amount of Atomidine may be increased for the 10 days of the month, or whether it may be taken throughout the month either with or without the carrot and beet juices. If not, I am quite prepared to continue as before.
If a more detailed report is needed before another reading, please do not hesitate to advise.
The appointment for the next reading may be fixed for any Saturday morning in November.
I shall await your instructions, and wish to thank you again for your assistance. [2207]

R6. 11/20/74 Note received by E.C.F. from William McGarey, M.D.:
”…We have one reading in the file [2207-1] which is, I’m positive, the real case of Myasthenia, and we’ve followed the course of treatment which Mr. Cayce suggested, and had an excellent response. This happened twice, as a matter of fact, and we’re going to try to generate a specific program to test this hypothesis. It’s not set yet, but we have our ideas and are working on it. We’ll keep you advised…”
Background
Background
B1. 4/24/40 [2207]‘s letter:
Although I am interested in all phases of your work as well as related fields to which I have given attention in the last few years, my immediate purpose is to obtain a physical reading for a rare form of a disease affecting the muscles of the body for which the cause and remedy have not been found by medical practitioners or osteopathic physicians.
This condition in its usual manifestation results in severe generalized muscular weakness progressing over a varying period to a state of complete exhaustion and death. It is known as myasthenia gravis. In my case, however, there has been no progressive deterioration of the muscle tissues. Instead the disease has remained in a stationary form since early childhood and has affected chiefly, although not exclusively, the external eye muscles. I was told that there are only three cases of this kind on record. Associated with this symptom is a tendency to general weakness. This has not prevented employment when the work did not require strenuous physical exertion. The disease has been a great handicap, and if removed would undoubtedly add to the better functioning of the life. I am 36 years of age. I do not believe that I could at this time obtain the cooperation of a medical practitioner for my contact with your organization, which seems to be suggested in the booklet.
