This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of August, 1927, in accordance with request made by self - [2223].

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces, giving the conditions as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane; giving time, the place, and the name, and that in that life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how.

2. EC: We have the body, the entity, and those relations with the universe and universal forces, as are exhibited and as have been builded, and as are latent in the present earth’s plane.

3. In entering we find the entity comes under the influence of Uranus, Neptune, Venus, Mercury, and Mars, with those influences as appear in Aquarius and in Jupiter. So we find from those latent urges many conditions that have brought and do bring peculiar conditions, situations, circumstances - peculiar surroundings - yet, will the entity [if the entity will] rely upon that of will’s force as is surrounded by those influences in Venus and in the Uranian forces of good, these will bring the better conditions in the life. Allowing those influences to be swayed by that influence in Mars and the adverse in Uranus, we find there will continue to be turmoil, strife, unsettled conditions, wayward actions at the end that would bring the entity to the less development than would be with the full application of will. Under the Uranian influences, we find these are as double - those that are of the extremist, and as is seen from that in the application of will’s forces, is either for good or for bad. More of these will be seen in the urges as are received from experiences in the earth’s plane.

4. In that influence combined as between Uranus and Neptune, we find the love of water, the love of travel, the love of mystery, the love of the study of those mysteries and mysterious conditions that have to do with rites as pertain to religion or to those conditions that bring to bear in people’s lives certain lines of thought.

5. In that influence as is seen in Venus, we find those as pertain to love, and to those conditions as pertain to the influences in the lives of each that the entity contacts, and these bring many conditions that are as disappointments; for the body being high-minded - through those influences in Uranian influence - and the love of the mystery brings to bear in the life that of not understanding one that is purely secular or material-minded.

6. These, as we are giving here, are irrespective of will’s influence, see?

7. That influence as seen in Mars, with Uranian, Neptune and of Venus, brings that of quick to wrath, quick to take exceptions. This the entity - the body-mind of the individual, [2223] - has gained much control over. Much more should be gained.

8. As to those that are builded in the present earth’s plane, we find are as these:

9. One that has every effort to attain that which it may use for its own development. Get that? One that may use every element to attain that which will develop its own element, see? or bring to itself the highest development in this present experience, will the entity [if the entity will] apply those truths, lessons, tenets, principles, laws, understandings as are and have been gained by the entity - even in the present experience - pertaining to man’s relation to man and man’s relation to the Creative Energy. Apply them, see?

10. One high minded.

11. One an extremist.

12. One that may - will - develop in many lines of endeavor - either as that of the student in archaeology and archaeological findings as pertaining to histology, biology, or any anatomical or astrological studies, or may attain to that of physical prowess or in the development of any of the particular endowed powers of the physical body, mechanical or of the art nature. As to why, these will be seen in the experiences as attained and gained through the experience in the earth’s plane.

13. One that has that element of attracting the opposite sex; yet this in itself often brings disappointment and discontent.

14. One that has the ability to withstand punishments, and to keep the mental balance through any trial or tribulation, provided there is not tried to be taken unawares, or the element of love as pertaining to the opposite sex enters in, and only self restraint would then protect the best interests for the entity towards development in this present experience.

15. Beware, then, of firearms.

16. Beware of entanglements as especially pertain to the opposite sex.

17. Beware of entanglement as respecting money, estates, or conditions surrounding same - for the entity has little idea (as is called in the common parlance of the day) of dollars except to obtain that desired by the entity. Hence entanglements in any of these are not ruled save by sentiment, or by the action of Uranian forces - which may be VERY good or very bad.

18. One that will, in the application of self toward those elements as pertain to the occult or the mysterious, gain much for self. The study of the occult would bring greater blessings than those of mystery, for these are to the entity too easily allowed to slip into the night side of such studies.

19. As to the appearances and those influences in the life:

20. In the one before this we find in that period when Alfred the Great was the ruler in that land called England. The entity then among the counsellors to that ruler, and in the name Cohe - and the entity gained and lost through that experience, for in attaining earthly power same was diverted to the use of self. Hence in the present experience - in karmic influence - there are seen those fears of any condition pertaining to law, or to entanglements of the law, or as pertaining to those who are in power - and the lack of concentration to find the source or the power of one that would threaten.

21. In the one before this we find in that period in that country known as Greece now. The entity [was] among those in the Athenian period that were of the Theosophican [?] [sp?] rule, and the entity then [was] in the name Epiciu. The entity gained in this experience, through the abilities to lend aid to those who would build good physical bodies and apply same in the betterment of conditions for those surrounding same. In the urge, then, is seen the care of the body, the abilities in physical prowess, and the abilities to aid others; also abilities in voice, and in the application of those things physical that attract others. Do not apply same to excess!

22. In the one before this we find in the period when changes came in that land now known as the Utah and Colorado country. The entity [was] among those that dwelt in the land when this was submerged through the upheavals caused in the northern country. Then in the name Eili, and the entity lost through this experience, being in that position of bringing upon others those of condemnation, for the entity taught others to apply the night-side of life - through trickery and through soothsaying, counting of stones, of beads, of carvings. Hence in the present urge we find the desire to know of such, and the fear of the influence of charm, or of that that might bring to others the thoughts of same. WELL that the entity beware of same, and - as given - study the occult, rather than the mystery side of earth’s experience.

23. In the one before this we find in that period when divisions were seen in that known as the Egyptian country. The entity then [was] among those of the priests that followed that one banished [Ra Ta], and the one that gave SO MUCH to the peoples at that period. The entity then one that sought to be placed in charge of the temple service during banishment, and found disfavor with the ruler; and the entity suffered in body, yet in mind kept self in that way and manner that brought much help, much comfort, much of the conditions that brought reconciliation with the priest and the ruler and those that brought rebellion - being able to correlate for the various classes of peoples at that period, supplying to priest and ruler those abilities of correlating data gathered by all, which - as has been given - brought the greater lessons to the world through Christian principles, as may be seen and applied in the world to-day. And many of those gathered there the entity contacts in the present experience. Then in the name Aiod, and the entity gained, lost, and gained through his experience. In this urge is seen the study of religious tenets and principles of the various peoples, the love of the occult, the love of the help the entity may give to others, the desire to get ALONG - as it were - but not at the EXPENSE of another. This the entity should apply in the present experience in the earth’s plane.

24. The abilities, as seen, lie in many directions. As given, that in the study of occult - not “ism” but occult - and the application of development of that called psychic in self and others, will bring the greater study, the greater development for the entity in the present experience. Keep self as in that Egyptian or that Aaraar [Araaraart?] land, in the manner to-day, that to all must come first the knowledge of self and its relation to the creative energies, and in applying same to others give that as the entity would have applied to its own self.

25. Ready for questions.

26. (Q) How are my conditions and vibrations working in relation with [R…] and myself? and what is his attitude toward me? (A) These are very good from self’s own standpoint. As to the vibrations from [R…] we have not those here. Only that as applies to THIS ENTITY may be given. Trust not too far in others, but doubt self before you would doubt another.

27. (Q) How are my conditions and vibrations working in relation with [L…], [W…], Mother, [K…]? and what is their attitude toward me? (A) These, as given are the answer to the ENTITY’S vibration; not from the other. Harken to that counsel from sister and mother. Covet much the faith, the confidence, as is seen in [K…], but keep self in that way of development - for to gain the world and lose one’s own soul is but naught.

28. (Q) What did Dad want to tell me and couldn’t tell me the last two days of his life? (A) This will be presented to the entity in DREAM on Wednesday, this week. Heed same.

29. (Q) Should I continue my music studies, write, study religion, business? and in what place can I do the most good? (A) These have been given, see? Following the study of occult forces and psychic forces. Keep in touch with those whom the entity may develop the most with, through, for, and in that way as the entity accomplished in that day accomplish in the present experience.

Well that those relations with the conditions surrounding be settled once for all - necessitating, then, hardships and struggles - in a manner - but return to that country and have this settled once for all. Then to the mother, and then study to show thyself approved unto Him, the Giver of all good and perfect gifts. Keep self unspotted from the world. Be ever ready to answer WITH the right word for the faith that lieth within.

5. As it is a bad fault to want to be loved by all women and is there a limit?

31. Would we find any evidence in regard to dope by having Father’s body examined?

R3. 8/26/27 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [2223]:

My dear Mr. [2223]

I’m sorry indeed we didn’t have the opportunity of seeing you and talking with you again, but we are certainly hoping you will make it a point to come in and see us at every opportunity - and we shall be very glad to have you to stop and make our home your home for any trip you wish to make to the Beach.

We had already mailed the reading to you at the hotel. Certainly hope you had no trouble in receiving same. Wouldn’t like for it to fall in someone else’s hands. Be sure and let us know about this, and I would like, too, to have your expression of same when you have studied it - for I’d like to know what you think of it.

I trust you have no great amount of trouble in getting things straightened up, and while I know you have sustained a great loss in the death of your father, yet - knowing what must have been his physical suffering under the existent circumstance - you know it’s best, or it wouldn’t have been.

Dear Edgar Cayce,

Some time ago I sent you two telegrams with no response to date. I read your book There Is A River and bought ten copies for friends this Christmas.

You no doubt remember me as far back as 1927. Please let me know when you can grant me a reading for each member of my family. Last reading Aug. 14, 1927 and Aug. 21, 1927

R7. 3/28/47 GD’s note: Mr. [2223] had achieved considerable success as a singer, rancher, publisher, etc.

R8. 2/12/51 Letter to HLC, saying he would attend the L.A. Conference:

“I knew your father in 1927. I was in Virginia Beach as my father died there after being released from John Hopkins. Cayce’s reading informed me that my father was being given narcotics. This was true as three days before my father died, everything he owned he deeded over to his private doctor. We later received everything back in property. Cayce gave me a reading on my father’s health condition and he also gave me a reading of my past life.”

R9. 10/27/52 Letter: “P.S. I am about to sell my ranch and go into other work in the establishment of an ashram. The philosophy of the soul does not permit experiments in phenomena.”

R10. 7/17/55 Letter to HLC:

After over twenty years of study of comparative philosophies and religions find little difference in regard to important points. I have been a Theosophist student for years, also a member of the San Jose A.M.O.R.C. and the Rosicrucian Fellowship order in San Diego. After a study of them all I can easily pick the important facts and they ARE the SAME THINGS EXPRESSED in a different way. I have many books and notes and wish you to please not quote me as each organization consider their way is the perfect way. My own investigation makes me aware of the Esoteric side of a great new spiritual brotherhood beyond name and boundaries coming to light…

Please reestablish me as a member of Association for Research and Enlightenment. My study of the Cayce books of God SFG] have helped me keep grounded and in the middle of the road.

Is it possible to get a list of the names of individuals who had life readings that are now living or dead who might have a historic parallel in relation to past lives and the present. Who were you, Gladys Davis and other members of the group of students? Won’t they respond and share their life readings with me in exchange for mine? Won’t anyone respond in this great advantage to establish a possible awareness of greater group effort to overcome error of the past, by greater knowledge of the past and present?

Please consider me an everlasting worker for true unfoldment through service in the comparative study and research.

Gina Cerminara asked me to send you this copy since it answers the questions you were asking her about it. We do not make available these readings in our A.R.E. Library except anonymously under their Case Numbers which have been used instead of names. However, since you are his only surviving brother and were mentioned or asked about in his reading, I told Gina that it would be proper to send you a copy. I’m sure he showed you a copy of it anyway long ago, since he wrote once asking us for a copy that he could make available to everyone interested, for study. I remember very well meeting him in 1927 and hearing from him off and on through the years. He was certainly a very talented and unusual man in many ways.

I am wondering if you at this late date could give us some feedback on his career and capabilities compared with qualities pinpointed in the reading. It would be good to have a report from a member of the family as close to him as you were. I’m sorry this is such a poor copy of his reading, but it is the original carbon copy of the one given him. In the near future we hope to be able to retype all of these on magnetic tape so that they can be forever available, and retrievable, in their original setting.

When I hear from you with your report I will add it to his comments made to us through the years, without names, of course, and send you a copy of the retyped Master of the whole thing.
