This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 31st day of October, 1929, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [2235].

1. EC: We have the body here, [2235]. Now, we find there are complications of conditions that affect the physical forces of the body. These must be met, as we find, to aid the body to better physical health, in an orderly manner - and consideration given to the various other defects in the physical functioning, organic disturbance, the eliminations and the assimilations for the system; for not only are the organs themselves involved in the conditions, AS organs, but also the functioning of other organs as, also, the blood supply and the organs that clarify same, is MOST in distress.

2. Then, to meet the immediate needs for this body, we would first use as this: Those of the carbon ash, given once each day - one-quarter grain in carbonated water, or the water that is used, half carbon, half plain - and the quarter grain of the ash stirred in same before taking, and we would take this at least in the middle of the day, as near as possible.

3. We would then, every OTHER day, apply those of the ultra violet rays. It will be necessary to continue for a time some of those elements given to ease the body. These, as we find, are gradually losing their strength, but when these vibrations are given, will the body respond to these, we will find that there will be loosened in system more of the oxygen, and this will allow the vitality to re-establish itself better.

4. For the diets, we would use principally those that are predigested, blood building, and carrying as much iron as will be well assimilated by the body.

5. Do that. Then, in twenty to twenty-six days, we would give further instructions for this body, [2235]. Ready for questions. We are through for the present.

R1. 11/10/29 Wife’s letter: “We rec’d the medicine [Ash] safely a few days ago. We thank you so much, also for giving the rdg. so promptly. Have started the treatments. We are having some trouble finding out what the predigested foods are. No one seems to know, unless it is baby foods and buttermilk… Could some questions be asked at the next rdg.? Would like to know what we could give him besides morphine to make him sleep, and what is the name of the illness. Doctors call it Cardiac Asthma and tearing down of the heart muscles. I do wish he could be in your hospital, he would get along so much better.

“Mr. [2235] is a very sick man, has been ill over eight months, with no sleep without morphine. So if you help him, you will be doing some wonderful work. May God bless you in all your healings.”

R2. 11/22/29 Wife’s letter: “I am so glad and thankful to be able to tell you that Mr. [2235] is some better. He can breathe better and can lie down more. If he could only find something to make him sleep besides morphine. We have tried various things. They only make him worse.

“We have followed the treatment since Nov. 6th, so by the time you get this letter it will be over twenty days. The only questions are, what to give him for sleep, and what is wrong with him. Am sending ten dollars with this letter for second reading.”

R4. 12/7/68 The Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk, Va., article: CHAMBER MAY RETARD AGING - HEALING SPEEDED BY PRESSURE [Used in the Spotlight, A.R.E. Journal, Spring ‘69, in re releasing oxygen.]:

LIVINGSTON, N.J. (AP) - A $2-million special-treatment chamber at St. Barnabas Medical Center here holds the possibility of providing a deterrent for mankind’s most formidable enemy - aging.

Dr. Charles Abbott, chief of hyperbaric treatment at the hospital, said the hyperbaric chamber “could in theory prevent the effects of aging.”

The results of the treatment make it sound like a panacea: fractures heal faster, abdominal diseases are easily treated, cancerous tumors are more responsive to radioactive treatment, and victims of heart attack and strokes are relieved in the hyperbaric chamber.

The chamber already has attracted a number of business and political leaders, including Sen. Everett M. Dirksen, R-Ill.

On Thursday, Mrs. Jacqueline Onassis and her husband, Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, toured the hospital and saw the hyperbaric chamber.

In hyperbaric treatment, patients breathe pure oxygen from masks while they lie in a chamber where air is pumped to three times its normal density. The high pressure causes the oxygen to effortlessly dissolve in body-tissue, resting the heart and providing a remarkable economy in the metabolism of the body.

“The tissues absorb 22 times more oxygen in the three-atmosphere pressure of the hyperbaric chamber,” Dr. Abbott said.

Oxygen is normally transported through the body by red blood corpuscles. Under hyperbaric treatment, according to Dr. Abbott, “you could probably live without red cells all together.”

The chamber at St. Barnabas, twin steel tubes 45 feet long and 12 feet wide, provides what hospital president Anthony Scala calls the most complete hyperbaric facility in the world.

During a week at the hospital last month, Sen. Dirksen underwent five normal hyperbaric minutes of breathing pure oxygen.

Dirksen’s treatment was for a lung disorder, and when he left doctors said his condition was noticeably improved. The 72-year-old senator told a news conference the treatments had given him a lift.

U.S. Sens. George Smathers and Richard Russell are scheduled to check in for treatments later this month.

Accompanying the Onassises to the hospital was a business associate, Louis Reynolds of the Reynolds Aluminum family, who said he hopes to build a much larger hyperbaric center near his home in Richmond, Va.

Scala said Reynolds also hopes to construct hyperbaric units across the nation in conjunction with old-age housing. Scala said the aim would be to give daily treatments to the elderly, resting and reviving their body systems.

“The idea is not only to cure disease, but to keep people well - for a long time,” he added.
