This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of December, 1929, in accordance with request made by his wife, Mrs. […].

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here. Now, we find there has been improvements in some directions - but, as seen this particular case, those who prescribe narcotics should CERTAINLY be governed by common sense!

2. In the subjugation of the physical forces, through these the body has gradually come to depend upon same - through the activities, not only of the forces within the vibrations of the body, but from the brain itself.

3. In this reaction, then, we find that, will they [if they will] apply those of the very low form of electrical vibration as may be found in that of the deep therapy, or of those that will add to the lulling of nerve ends as lying upon the electric board, or mat, and by giving THIS within the system - rather than so much of the narcotic - these, of course, may not be reduced all at once, but in this proportion and in this manner COMBINED, will aid:

4. To 2 ounces of syrup - simple syrup - add: (Now add them in the manner given)

Eucalyptol, Oil of…5 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…3 minims, Benzosol…2 minims.

Shake this WELL together, and every three hours give one drop in a carrier of either wine or grape juice, see? This will aid this body. FOLLOWING up STILL the combinations as have been given. We are through with this reading.

R1. 12/6/29 Wife’s letter: “We rec’d the 2nd rdg. last night. We surely do thank you for all you have done so far in helping Mr. [2235]. I don’t think I can describe the nature of his illness. He suffered greatly at times. His heart would beat so fast one could not even count. When it did that, his legs and feet became much swollen - then his breathing was so hard - some days he just fought to live. He sat up in bed all the time. If he fell into a little doze, something seemed to press against his chest and smothered him. The only thing the doctors could do was to put him to sleep and morphine was the only thing that would do that.

“Now, Mr. Cayce, just as soon as we started the ultra-violet ray and the Carbon Ash [recommended in 2235-1] he started to improve, and he kept on improving. In a few days he was able to come downstairs and seemed more like himself in every way. We bought a sun lamp to use at home - he was not able to go to a doctor’s office. We use it every night. The first rdg. said every other day, but the man we bought it from said every day was alright for a small home lamp. Is that all right?

“Mr. [2235] is not quite so well today. He has taken a little cold. We have only enough Carbon Ash powders to last another week. Shall we need more?

“I am getting the wine and medicine today and will start with that at once. It is all so wonderful to me, I feel as though I wanted to shout the news to everybody, but folks are queer

• some think we are all crazy. Well, all we can do is to try and help - if they don’t believe it, it is their tough luck. When Mr. [2235] is better and stronger and able to go out, shall take him and let his doctor have a look at him. He is very thin yet, but think he is gaining a little.

“One more thing I want to tell you is that for two years he has carried nitro-glycerine tablets around with him, would not be without them a minute. He used to take them all night long, before we had the first rdg. We had the bottle filled 3 wks. ago last Sun. eve., he’s only had one tablet all that time, and that was that evening. So you know his heart is getting better, as well as other ailments. Words cannot tell you what we feel, but some day we hope to be able to help you in your work. When we get some money we want to come and see you and your hospital…

“Will let you know later how Mr. [2235] gets along with the new medicine.”

R2. 12/17/29 Mr. Frank E. Mohr wrote: “I called on Mr. [2235] this morning and he is very much improved. However, you recommended the ultra-violet ray. They are using a sun ray.

In other words, it is just a reflection from a hood heated by electricity, which carries the heat to the body. I told them that I thought that was all wrong; that they should use the violet ray such as I have…

“The last prescription that you gave in the 2nd rdg…they cannot find Benzosol in this city…

“However, Mr. [2235] can now sleep and rests very comfortably, but his limbs are swollen some and I think that is why you wanted the violet ray used, to stimulate circulation.”

R3. 12/20/29 EC wrote Mr. Mohr that he was sending some Benzosol for Mr. [2235] and that he would appreciate Dr. Geo. W. Cooperrider, M.D. [Mr. Mohr’s son-in-law] helping them get the prescription compounded for Mr. [2235].

R4. 12/31/29 EC’s letter replied to inquiry by Mr. Mohr: “From the rdg. I gather that it is the ULTRA violet and not the plain violet ray [hand machine] that is to be used for Mr. [2235], as this is more penetrating and not a superficial application, and it will allow drainage and reduce the swelling.”

R5. 1/4/30 Mr. [2235] himself wrote; in reply to questionnaire from Cayce Hospital: “I fear I am not quite equal to the job of giving you description of my condition. Last April I had an attack of pneumonia. I was unable to lie down on account of suffocation and was given a shot of morphine in my arms. This continued each day for thirty-five days, and was then discontinued entirely. Then the doctor gave me fifteen drops of Digitalis four times a day for my heart. This treatment was reduced about half. Then my legs and ankles and feet began to swell. The amount of Digitalis was increased to twenty drops four times a day and the swelling reduced to normal in four days. This swelling has taken place three times. The third time it is being reduced now with thirty drops of Digitalis three times a day. The swelling is nearly gone now.

“My great trouble, the doctor says, is a very weak heart and cardiac asthma. The asthma a great deal of the time keeps me from getting any sleep whatsoever. Morphine seems to be the only thing that will help me, except when I first commenced to use the violet ray lamp as instructed in Mr. Cayce’s first rdg, which I used on my chest about ten minutes every evening. I commenced to improve from the first and continued to do so for five weeks, in which time I did not take any morphine. I could lie down and sleep quite well. Then I took a little cold, through the house not being kept at a proper temperature. Then I had Mr. Cayce’s second rdg. and I had great hopes of not having to go back to the morphine, but we could not get the ingredients here and it was several weeks before we finally rec’d it, but I was obliged to use morphine to get rest for my heart and body. I take three tablets at half hour intervals (one each half hour), commencing at eight o’clock and get to sleep about eleven o’clock, and usually sleep until noon next day. The next night I take two tablets and sleep all night usually. Then I get along the best I can for two or three days without taking any until I become so tired and worn out for lack of sleep that I am compelled to go back to it. My heart becomes so tired and weak that it flutters and beats very fast, so that I am compelled to take one or two nitro-glycerine tablets to quiet it.

“Mr. Frank Mohr came to see me a few days since. He looked at my carbon arc lamp and said he did not think it was what Mr. Cayce meant at all, and said he would write Mr. Cayce and find out. I think he is mistaken and that the lamp I have produces the kind of violet ray the rdg. meant, and I know it has done me much good. I am using it ten minutes each evening and taking the soda water as the rdg. directed, but the carbon ash powder has been exhausted for some time. I am carrying out the rdg. of Dec. 2nd as instructed except the electric board or mat. I have been unable as yet to secure one of these. I am somewhat discouraged about having to go back to morphine. I feel that if I could get some natural sleep or rest I should soon be well.

“I am very sorry to hear Mr. Cayce has been ill and is not now very well. You must take good care of him, as his loss would be an irreparable one.”

R6. 1/15/30 Wife’s letter: “I am just so worried about Mr. [2235]. He can’t sleep and the morphine won’t act any more; he can’t keep it down, and he worries all the time about what he is going to do for sleep; he is getting so thin and weak. There seems to be some poison leaking somewhere, it is no good. Any doctor looking him over will say it is his heart. I don’t think so; if it was he could not stand all he has gone through. Mr. Mohr thinks we ought to have another rdg. What do you think? It will have to be done right away or it will be too late… I’ve been asking all over town about what deep therapy is. The rdg. said lie on a mat or board. Wish the rdgs. were easier to understand, though I think I have found the doctor who has one, but we could never take Mr. [2235] out in this cold weather. Even if the room gets cold he suffers terribly… Please help.”

R7. 2/3/30 EC gave the third rdg., 2235-3. See 2235-3, Par. 2-A saying that the ultra-violet ray or Infra Red Ray is the deeper therapy referred to in 2235-2.

R8. 11/30/72 GD’s note: Apparently the electric board or mat was an alternative to the ultra-violet, since the reading 2235-2 said the deep therapy or the lulling vibration of the electric board or mat.
