1. EC: Now, the conditions as we find for this body are not so good. While there are the changes in the physical forces, with the addition of those properties as has been given, we would add those of the vibrations from the Radio-Active Appliance. We would also use the RADIUM Appliance. This worn across the upper dorsal region, or in the region of the cardiac plexus center. These, we would find, would give the better or the quicker relief for the body, and allow the body to rest. The Radium Appliance would be worn at least nine hours each day. That of the Radio-Active Appliance we would use for an hour, when the body rests. We would continue with the ash. We would also use the ultra violet ray. That as has been used is rather weak, but effective. For the medicinal properties, these as we have given should be sufficient at the present. Do that. Ready for questions.

2. (Q) Where and from whom in Columbus can body obtain deep therapy treatment? (A) Anyone that has, or uses, the ultra violet ray, or the Infra red ray - which is the deeper therapy.

3. (Q) Should body come to Cayce Hospital for treatment? (A) When physically able, the body may. Not under its present conditions.

4. (Q) What can be done to cause body to sleep? (A) Just been given!

Dear Mr. [2235]

In reply to your letter, and in explaining your last check reading, I would like to refer you to Dr. H. E. Clybourne [Harold E. Clybourne, D.O.], East Broad Street. I am sure that Dr. Clyborne will have the Ultra Violet or Infra Red lamp which is called for in the reading.

Would suggest that you have one osteopathic treatment, at least every other day and follow out the use of the Radio-Active Battery and the Radium Appliance.

Dr. Clybourne will attend you at home, if necessary, and will reduce the use of opiates, markedly, in a short time I am sure.

If I can be of any further use, kindly write us and when you are able to travel, I would suggest coming to the Cayce Hospital for several weeks stay.

My dear Mr. Cayce,

I hate to write & worry you again, but we have not received the Radio-Active Appliance to help Mr. [2235] sleep. We have the Radium Appliance, has worn it about 8 days, he is better, but does not sleep, his nerves seem to be shot all to pieces, it will be a month tomorrow since he had morphine, if he only could get to sleep, he would get along faster. Let us know how much the appliance will cost. Send it along just as soon as you can. I am just about worn out with it all. I surely was grateful to you for the last reading, will send the money just as soon as possible. Hoping to hear from you soon.

MARVELS OF RADIUM and Its Value as a Curative Agent by M. L. Degnen

Radium possesses a power altogether unique among the elements, a power so enormous as to confound the mind and stagger the imagination. It has been fairly well determined, after exhaustive researches and careful experiments by such renowned scientists as Rutherford, Soddy, Turner and others, that the life of Radium is at least twenty-five hundred years. During this entire twenty-five hundred years, Radium is constantly and without cessation throwing off from itself, at terrific velocity, particles of matter - Energy Force, Power - call it what you will.

Radium gives off three different and distinct disintegration products or rays designated as Alpha, Beta and Gamma rays.

The Alpha rays are infinitismal particles charged with positive electricity and endowed with high ionizing power. These rays move with a velocity of about 12,000 miles a second and are absorbed within a short distance of their flight. They have little or no penetrating power and can be deflected by a thin sheet of paper. Being charged positively, they are attracted by the negative pole of the magnet. The Alpha particles in turn disintegrate or “split up” into Beta and and Gamma rays.

The Beta rays are electrons, negatively charged, like the cathode rays, and they possess far more penetrating power than the Alpha particles. Their velocity is nearly as great as the velocity of light - 186,000 miles a second.

The Gamma rays are not considered to be particles of matter in a physical sense, but are ether waves resembling the X-rays. They possess greater penetrating power than either the Alpha or Beta ray; in fact, the Gamma rays will penetrate, or filter through, any known substance.

A single grain of Radium will expel 10,000,000,000 (ten thousand millions) of these particles each second of time during the entire period of its life, and each of these particles carries two units of positive electricity [Radium, its Physics and Therapeutics [by] Turner]. This refers to the Alpha particle alone. In addition to this radiation, the same grain of Radium is giving off other forms of energy and waves of vibration with a velocity of over 170,000 miles a second and with penetrating power sufficient to go through a foot of solid steel.

And this is not all, for there is yet a further product of Radium to be considered - “the emanation” - a gaseous substance. This emanation has all the properties of real Radium; it is highly Radio-Active and gives off the same kind of rays as those given off by Radium itself.

It is difficult to form a conception of the vast amount of energy stored in even a minute quantity of Radium. 1/20,000,000 of a milligram of Radium will discharge a loaded electroscope.

The 1/100 millionth milligram of Radium will throw out 100,000 combined rays in twenty-four hours, at a velocity of 12,000 to 180,000 miles per second, and this without taking account of secondary radiation.

According to Sir William Ramsay, if proper mechanical means were available to draw off its energy at will, one atom of pure Radium would furnish sufficient power to drive the entire British navy on a trip around the world.

Radium will give forth light, heat and vibration for a period of eighteen hundred years before losing one-half of its volume.

From the above figures it is not an idle dream to look forward to the time when Radium will furnish all of the light, heat and power necessary for the human race, for even the small amount of Radium now on hand would supply sufficient energy to run all of the industries in the world for many years, if proper mechanical means were available to extract its terrific energy at will. In other words, the energy is there and it only remains for man to control its use.

From this it would seem that even a mere atom of Radium is a vast storehouse of almost perpetual energy. Since it is against all physical law for any element to continually give forth energy without a source of renewal, the question naturally arises: “Where does Radium get its energy?”

In answer to this question, M. Barthelot, the famous French physicist, has said: “The characteristics of Radium have not only been observed in other bodies, but appear to be common to nearly all, some possessing them to a very high degree, as in the case of Radium, and in others very little. Radium is simply a substance with an exceptional capacity for receiving the waves of energy from the sun and giving them off.”

Indeed, there is incontrovertible evidence that the source of all energy is the SUN. All things, in a more or less degree, possess the power to receive and store up the sun’s energy.

It is not at all beyond the realms of strict, scientific possibility to say that gold, silver, copper, lead and all elements, respond to and give off certain vibration, but that such vibrations are so infinitesimal as to be imperceptible to man with such instruments as he now has at his command.

Radium, uranium, thorium and other Radioactive minerals have this property to such an extent that they not only receive and hold the sun’s energy in suspension, but give it forth in a changed form, namely light, heat, electrical vibration and helium gas particles. The change or transformation may be due to interatomic, chemical action. This then is is the logical solution of the mystery of Radium and its almost perpetual energy.

The sun gives forth light, heat and various waves of magnetic vibration. This stream of Solar Energy is, no doubt, necessary to hold our Earth in place and, since the sun is necessary to the very Earth itself, it naturally follows that in a more or less degree, it is necessary to all things on our planet.

Without going into a lengthy discourse on this theme, suffice it to say that the Sun is the God of Life. Without its energy we could not exist, hence it is but natural for man to turn to the source of all material life for physical health, strength and power.

HEALING MINERAL SPRINGS

The discovery in recent years that the well known mineral springs of Europe, such as Carlsbad, Baden-Baden, Gastien, Wiesbaden, Joachimstahl and others, are highly Radio-active has, to a great extent explained their healing powers, and also that of certain American springs that were long known to the Indians for their curative properties. Some tribes also possessed pieces of ore which the Indians called “pain stones”, and which were believed to cure or relieve any kind of ache or pain when applied to the affected part. Some of the old-time settlers of the West still relate stories of the wonderful curative properties of these “pain stones,” and tell of instances where some tribal “medicine man,” by the use of the stone, succeeded in effecting cures in chronic diseases of long standing. Some of these stones are still in existence, and, since the discovery of Radium, investigation has shown that a few of them, at least, were pieces of Radium ore.

Among the folk lore tales and traditions of the Red Man are many quaint and curious legends woven around the “magic stones” with their power to heal sickness, relieve pain and give strength to those who carried them. These virtues were generally attributed in some supernatural power inherent in the “medicine stone.”

Modern science has demonstrated that a minute particle of Radium produces even more remarkable effects upon the human body than was ever dreamed of by the Indian Medicine Man, and that even a small quantity of high grade radium ore contains sufficient Radium to affect the circulating blood cells and tissues of the human organism.

So in gazing back through the dim shadows of the past, we behold the Indian Medicine Man with his weird incantation and tribal talisman, performing the same task with the same agency as the most enlightened modern physician. Truly the stream of knowledge flows through strange channels!

ACTION OF RADIUM

Since its discovery by M. and Mme. Curie in 1898, many of the most noted physicians in Europe and America have been conducting experiments with Radium and Radio-Active substances, as a panacea for human ills.

Although there is a difference of opinion regarding the exact mode of action of Radium upon the human organism, numerous observations and careful tests have shown that it exerts a marked influence. Investigations have demonstrated that the emanation increases the metabolism, promotes the processes of oxidation in the tissues and eliminates the waste products from the body. there is an augmented excretion of uric acid and a solution of sodium biurate. The number of red corpuscles is increased and temporary leucocytosis has sometimes been observed. A reduction of the blood pressure has been noted, which may be explained as due to an expansion of the blood vessels.

The chief effect of the radiations from Radium and its disintegration products is to produce an ionization of the atoms of whatever substance the rays penetrate. Chemical effects follow as a secondary result of ionization. Professor Carl von Noorden and Professor W. Falta believe that “in contradistinction to all other forms of electrotherapy, we possess in Radio-active substances the means of carrying electrical energy into the depths of the body and there subjecting the juices, protoplasm and nuclei of the cells to an immediate bombardment by explosion of electrical atoms. We may, therefore, designate this internal treatment with Radio-active substances ‘internal electrotherapy.’”

CHARGING THE PAD

The PAD is charged by simply placing it in direct sunlight for from three to five minutes. When direct sunlight is not available, or when the sun is obscured by clouds, give the pad an exposure of from six to ten minutes. It is then ready for use. A longer exposure is not necessary although it will not harm the pad.

To get the best results the PAD should be charged both morning and evening, as its strength will be much greater than if worn the entire day and night with but a single charge or exposure.

MANNER OF WEARING THE PAD

For all ordinary ailments the PAD may be worn across the back just above the hips. From this position its energy can freely penetrate all the organs of the lower part of the body.

For indigestion and all stomach disorders the PAD should be worn at night across the stomach, wearing it across the back during the day.

For weak lungs and all pulmonary trouble wear PAD between the shoulders across the back suspended by one cord around the neck, the other across the chest to hold it in position.

To relieve pains in the chest, shoulders, arms or legs, apply the pad to the affected part, using the cords to hold it in place.

The Radio-Active Solar Pad, as the name implies, is a pad measuring 4 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches, it is light in weight and can be worn in any position on the body during the day or night without causing any inconvenience. It can be worn either next to the skin or over the undergarment.

In using the PAD, do not knot or tie the cords to the eyelets on the pad. Simply run the cords through the eyelets to hold it in position, so the strain is on the cord and not on the pad.
