This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of July, 1940, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [1306], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. As we find, conditions are rather serious, not only because of congestion through the colon and the intestinal system but infectious forces also from poisons.

4. For the relief, we would apply first the Peach Tree Leaf Poultice. Take the tender leaves of the peach tree. Put these in hot water, bruise, and make a poultice - at least three to four leaves thick - between thin cloth, gauze or the like - that would cover the lower portion of lungs and all of abdomen. Change this about every three hours, until there has been the better elimination.

5. We would also begin immediately, for the eliminations, with taking broken doses of Fletcher’s Castoria, - six to ten drops every fifteen minutes.

6. Massage the spine with Cocoa Butter, from the 9th dorsal or middle of the back downward.

7. And rub from the base of the brain downward with grain alcohol, to reduce the temperature.

8. No feeding save the milk as would be combined with just sufficient oatmeal (well strained) for keeping nourishment.

9. Do these and we will find, if there is the ability to bring about changes, a reduction of the temperature and the removal of the poisons and congestions through the alimentary canal.

10. Do that.

11. Then, as conditions show improvement - if they do show the improvements - change to the regular diet, of course.

12. We are through for the present.

R1. 7/10/40 Uncle [1089]‘s wire: “Baby [2299] had marvelous reaction from treatment yesterday. Seems to have had relapse today. Temperature still high. Cries as tho has intense pain in stomach. Please give check reading giving treatments to meet changing conditions.”

R2. EC’s reply: “Repeat entire procedure including enema following poultice. Watch diet.”

R3. 7/9/40 Mother [1306]‘s letter to EC: “Monday morning was the happiest day of my life. [2299]‘s fever had completely left him and he was an entirely new baby - he responded wonderfully to the treatment. …Words cannot express my gratitude to you for what you have done for me. You SAVED my baby’s life. We all knew there was something wrong other than a common stomach ache (that’s what Dr. Thomas said it was). He was suffering entirely too much for that. Dr. Thomas gave him paregoric to ease the pain but nothing whatsoever to remove the cause.

“I’ve wanted a reading ever since the baby was born but knew you were so busy and just hated to ask for one. My husband hasn’t had work for sometime now and we had saved VERY little money but just as soon as he goes to work, I’ll send you small amounts at a time until I get the readings paid for. I could NEVER pay for the good the reading did, that’s PRICELESS!

“I have known that things weren’t what they should have been ever since the baby was a few weeks old. His stools were abnormal - he gained less than a pound a month but both Drs. Brown and Thomas said he was doing fine until he reached the age of six months then Dr. Thomas decided suddenly that the baby had rickets and diarrhea - a serious case of both. He then put him on a bottle (Pet’s Milk), Pablum, Heinz Baby Foods, bananas, eggs, toast, orange juice, and a special kind of Cod Liver Oil to cure rickets with four feedings daily and since that time (2 months) he hasn’t gained an ounce. He weighed about 7 lbs. at birth, is 8 months old and weighs only 12 3/4 lbs. - that’s a gain of 5 lbs. in 8 months which can’t be right. I think he has been leading to the critical condition he was in since birth.

“I wanted to rite you Monday to let you know how much improved he was but thought it best to wait until I saw the reading. Thought, MAYBE, it would be a general reading giving diet etc. for the future. I’m almost sure his diet should be entirely different from what it has been.

“[1005] and [23] came to see the baby Sunday and Monday nites

• they were really surprised to see such a grand response to the treatment.”

Thursday Afternoon 7/11/40 “I hardly know where I left off but I’ll continue. I stopped riting to see about the baby and found his fever had jumped to 102 4/5. It’s so strange how well a baby can be one minute and how sick the next - he was quite a bit sicker than he was Sunday. I called Mrs. [760] and she said to give him an enema containing Glyco-Thymoline (1/4 t. to pint of water) so he’d pass some of the mucus in his bowels (they had previously moved only twice in about 20 hours so she thought that was causing the temperature) - this helped very little - he seemed to be getting worse all the time - he was suffering so he could hardly get his breath; I thought surely he couldn’t last thru the nite so when [23] and [1005] came by they both thought it best to wire for a check reading - we did - sometime (an hour or so) after they left he seemed to be resting more comfortably; before this the only way he slept was sitting in my lap - if I moved he woke up. Wednesday he continued to improve and today seems to feel fine.

“I’m so happy and thankful I don’t know how to express my gratitude to you but I know you understand what it means to me. If it hadn’t been for your kindness I couldn’t possible have had my baby now. Dr. Thomas didn’t know what was wrong and never would have known and he’s considered … best baby doctor.

“We are still carrying out the treatment just as the reading stated. Mrs. [760] explained exactly how everything should be done.

“We’re all so sorry to hear you’re ill and do hope you’ll be well soon. I’ve wanted to finish this sooner but have had so much to do and so very little rest, just couldn’t make it!

“I’ve wondered and wondered what other people do without your help - I know our family couldn’t have gotten along without you. You’ve been so GOOD to all of us.

“[2015] is the finest, healthiest looking-baby I’ve ever seen. I know you’re proud of her. I only wish [2299] were that healthy.

“If possible when you feel you can give a general reading for [2299], I’d appreciate IT MORE THAN ANYTHING. There are so many things I know should be attended to. If you have any suggestions as to diet after he’s a little stronger I’d love to hear from you concerning them. His body seems unable to digest fats of any kind - his movements are all full of oil and have been from the beginning of his life. I don’t understand why.

“I’ll rite again soon and let you know how he’s progressing.

“Did you know brother [1089] has a wonderful job selling insurance - he’s already doing fine.

“[1352] said tell you she’d rite soon.”
