This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of August, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [23], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ky.
-
GC: You will give the present physical condition, with special reference to fetus, condition of pregnancy, and interpretation of the X-Ray made; giving suggestions for corrective measures; answering the questions submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
Now as we find, conditions have not changed since that as last we had here.
-
Under the existing conditions, we find that the interpretation should be rather first by those HANDLING the condition. For to interpret and then NOT be assured by their own indications or findings will only make for confusions.
-
Conditions are much as has been indicated, as we find. There has been inception, not once but more than once - as has been and is indicated by the blood test, as well as the character and the profusion of activity of the glandular system.
-
That these have continued to be first conception, then abortion, then conception and then abortion, has made for the abnormal developments.
-
But the construction and the developments must be followed by those handling same.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Am I still pregnant at this time? (A) At this time still pregnant - about six to ten weeks; and this added to others makes for this shadow that is indicated.
-
(Q) What are the abnormal conditions? (A) Just as described.
-
(Q) What is cause of continual menstruation? (A) Continual abortion!
-
(Q) Will fetus develop in normal manner? (A) Not until some changes have been made - and there is a retaining and a normal development of the flows of the system for nominal or normal developments!
-
(Q) How shall we interpret the X-Ray picture which we have made? (A) Use the common sense!
-
We are through.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/14/38 Letter: “Thank you again. It is very upsetting; all this, in view of the fact that the doctors think I’m not pregnant. Nothing else showed up in the x-ray. The two shadows I asked him about when I first saw it - he says was a little gas in the intestines (!). It shows a shadow about the size of a silver dollar - roughly speaking - and a much smaller one a little distance from the larger one. ‘Gas in the intestines’ it IS, so far as they’re concerned. They think I’ve tried to think myself into a state of pregnancy! That’s what they’ve said. Can you imagine?
“I haven’t been able to show Dr. Haynes this last reading. Hope to see him today. It may make a difference in his opinion.
“The reading said that normal development wouldn’t take place until some changes had been made. Do you have any idea what changes it had reference to? As you interpret the two readings do you think it means to have a curettement? Dr. Haynes says he won’t do that unless he can find evidence of its necessity. He wants to believe in these readings but he still wants it to jibe with what he thinks!
“Frankly, I’m completely up a stump. I don’t know what to do. [1005] thinks I should get on the train and go to …, [Va.] Dr. Taylor until I’m straightened out again. Dr. Taylor will listen to my readings. But I don’t know whether that would be the thing to do or not. It seems utterly stupid to me that I can’t get taken care of here.
“The abortions the reading described were the two very unusual periods which I’ve experienced, evidently. Dr. Haynes didn’t think it important. But I’ve been in bed each time never less than a week or from ten days to two weeks. That was taking place and I didn’t know it!”
R2. GD’s note: EC advised her to stop worrying, just to stay close to her doctor in case serious flooding occurred, etc. She did go to … [Va.] and did have another miscarriage, after which she began to have normal menstrual periods.
