This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of September, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [2348], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [2130].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Miss [2348] and her mother, and a friend.]
Time of Reading 3:30 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2348].
-
As we find, there are conditions which prevent the better normal physical functioning. These we find are rather specific in their nature; and the affectations are to the organs of the sensory system.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [2348], we are speaking of, present in this room:
-
First, in the blood supply, - we find there have been - and are as yet - indications of some disturbances as related to eliminations, and the activities of the kidneys.
-
This, with a subluxation that exists in the lower dorsal, or the lower UPPER dorsal and through the cervical, has hindered the impulses of nerve and blood supply to the organs of the sensory system; and specifically the eyes, or the more the left.
-
In the very nature of the disturbance, and the form or character of pressure indicated, there have been those inclinations for inflammatory conditions to the optic nerve, or in those portions back of the eye itself.
-
These, as we find, may be eliminated from the system.
-
In many respects the general physical health has been, and is, very well balanced; and this has prevented much greater distresses, or the specific or localized condition from spreading in the system.
-
While the specific application that has been made has allayed, it has not touched or caused the removal of the pressures that produce the inflammation in that portion of the circulation.
-
As to the activity of the nerves, - this, to be sure, is partially the cause; or disturbances arise through the activity of the nervous system, or the nerve impulse that aids in carrying the circulation to and from the affected parts.
-
Hence the pressures must first be removed. Then we may make those applications that will stimulate activity of circulation in such a manner as to eliminate the SOURCES of infection and the disturbance already created.
-
Then, as we find:
-
First there must be a series - at least of some six - deep manipulations osteopathically administered; that would remove pressures in the 3rd and 4th and 2nd dorsal, and those in the 3rd and 5th cervical.
-
Then the second series of the manipulations would be to stimulate eliminations FROM those areas where the pressures have caused the disturbance.
-
Of course, in the last of these treatments or manipulations, there would also be a correction in the lumbar and LOWER dorsal for better eliminations from the kidneys.
-
These, as we find, had best be applied by such as Dobbins.
-
After the first series of osteopathic treatments, - the first six, you see (not before), - we would then begin also with the application of the electrical vibrations through the body direct to the eye, as to stimulate the circulatory forces to remove the cause. Then, after two or three such applications of the electrical forces to aid the system in eliminating the poisons of the infectious forces released through the electrical vibrations for affected areas, we would have again the second series of osteopathic adjustments - in conjunction or at the same time the electrical treatments are given, see? The first series of the osteopathic treatments would be to remove pressure, so that the stimulations to the affected areas may be receiving the healing forces of a well balanced circulation otherwise, save as for that which first caused the disturbance.
-
These, as we find (the electrical treatments) had best be applied by Erlanger.
-
Do these, as we find, for bringing better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Just when should the electrical treatments by Erlanger be begun? (A) As indicated, six such osteopathic adjustments SHOULD eliminate the pressures. When the pressures are eliminated, begin the electrical treatments. Then, after two or three electrical treatments, start again with the osteopathic treatments in the second series, see?
This is a chrysalis treatment, or the crystal or glass put direct over the eye and electrical forces of a low nature applied through same.
-
(Q) Should I continue the radium treatments for my eye? (A) If these others as suggested are not begun, we would continue the radium treatment; though as we find this may be easily overdone, and thus cause scar tissue.
-
(Q) If these treatments are followed as suggested, how soon may I expect the eye condition to be corrected? (A) In six to seven weeks.
Do these, and as we find we will correct the disturbance and bring near to normal conditions for the body.
- We are through for the present.

(9/21/40 GD’s note: See extra sheet of directions [which was enclosed] to osteopath: Dr. Frank Dobbins, 551 Fifth Ave., New York City; and to Dr. Gustav Erlanger, [who gives the type of electrical treatment suggested for the eyes] 20 West 77th St., New York City.)
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/26/40 She came for reading, 2348-2, saying that after one week of following the treatments in N.Y. (from Dr. Dobbins and Dr. Erlanger) she could see the street signs from a bus for the first time. So encouraged!
R2. 2/15/41 GD’s notes:
See enclosed article [1800-24 Reports] explaining theory of the Wet Cell Appliance. We will bring this to you a week from Monday night, if not before. Also extra sheet for Dr. Dobbins. Regarding accommodations in N.Y., write to: Miss Jennie Moore, 27 Seventh Ave., So., New York City. Mrs. E. O. Brown, 333 East 17th St., New York City. Miss Sadie Neumark, 255 West 19th St., New York City. You may tell them I thought they could help you find a convenient place.
R3. 2/19/41 Mother’s letter: ”…We have received the reading for [2348], also the directions for using Wet Cell Appliance. I note that the ingredients packed separately in the proper quantities may be ordered from you. We would like to do this. So please fix it up for us, as we know absolutely nothing about it, this being our first experience. We appreciate what is being done for my daughter, and I do hope and pray that she will receive much benefit. I haven’t an idea what the cost of the ingredients will be, but I feel sure you will do your best for us. Your encouraging words and tone have inspired very much my daughter and me. Any suggestions at any time will be much appreciated. Thank you so much for the names and addresses in N.Y., to whom we may write for information as to accommodations…”
R4. 2/20/41 EC’s letter: ”…Thanks for yours of the 19th. I notice there is a notation that an Appliance is to be delivered to you on the 24th. I believe they will have all the necessary ingredients for same or show you all about it when they bring it in. It is one of those things that has to remain in one place, and do not put it where, if the acids in same get spilled, they would spoil anything. I will try and see they give you full instructions about same.
“Yes, I do hope we may be the means of being of help for Miss [2348]. Mr. [1861] and Mrs. [2072] were here last week and asked very particularly about Miss [2348]. They are very well…”
R5. 2/28/41 Mrs. Elizabeth 0. Brown David E. Kahn’s secretary] wrote: ”…Tell Gladys that I wrote Miss [2348] and arranged for a room for her here, and I will try to see her when she gets to town…”
R6. 9/42 GD’s note: Miss [2348] phoned Edgar Cayce and relayed a message to him through me: Her eyes were not improving and she was discontinuing the treatment. It was just too expensive to continue the osteopathic treatments and the Wet Cell Appliance without any evidence that her eyes were improving. She had long since retired from her teaching job because of her eyes, and her parents couldn’t afford further treatments.
R7. 7/30/47 ARE Member at Norfolk SFG Group meeting told GD that Miss [2348] is now totally blind.
R8. 5/22/63 GD’s note: Dr. O. M. Wakefield [D.O.] says, not having any more information than the above, he would have to index this case under optic neuritis. She may have had brain tumor which had pressed on optic nerve to deteriorate it.
R9. 9/5/72 Bob Clapp’s note to GD: Mel Silvers, M.D., A.R.E. member from Miami, Florida, who was researching 2348-1—4, thinks the case should be crossindexed under EYES:OPTIC GLAUCOMA.
R10. 3/22/79 Miss [2348] died in a hospital at the age of 71 yrs.

Background
B1. 9/21/40 “Doctors say she will become totally blind. [GD: Later we found her condition was called Optic Glaucoma.] There is nothing they can do to prevent it. Should radium treatments be continued or would another be better? Will condition be corrected? If so, how soon?”
