This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of Mr. David E. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 13th day of November, 1940, in accordance with request made by the sister - Miss [813], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Marshall Sanitarium, Time of Reading Linden Avenue, 4:05 to 4:10 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. Troy, New York.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. As we find, conditions have turned for the worse, owing to the block again between the organs of the hepatic circulation.

4. Immediately give the body ten minims of Atomidine.

5. Apply the Stupes again, both over the kidneys and over the pubic center.

6. It is necessary to catheterize, but keep away from these as much as possible.

7. Then make that correction in the 9th dorsal center, osteopathically, that will aid in removing the block.

8. These are the chances or the opportunities for benefits.

9. DO keep down the poisons that are as accumulations from non-activity of the alimentary canal. Use enemas, if the body shows recuperation from the stupor coming on.

10. Give at least ten minims of Atomidine. Do not repeat the ten minims before a period of twenty-four hours, but it may be repeated then if found necessary. This will add to the activity of the glandular system. If done soon, it should aid.

11. We are through for the present.

R1. 12/13/40 Sister [813]‘s ltr. to Gladys Davis:

My dear Miss Davis:

Enclosed is a check for ten dollars in payment for the last check reading given for [2387] in November. I think that is the correct amount but if it is not, let me know please.

For the first check-reading I sent the Association a check for 20 but neglected, in the stress of circumstances, to advise you that 10 of that amount was designed to apply on my dues. I know that I am in arrears in dues but haven’t had time to check up and see how I stand. If I have made a mistake in this settlement do let me know.

I returned to … the latter part of November as I could do nothing more by staying near … The doctors were ready to boil me in oil!

[2387] is a little better but I have had no word about him in nearly a week. I have quite a complicated report to make to Mr. Cayce about this case and have been waiting to write to him until I could get an exact report about his condition. His wife is fifty miles from … and is teaching school in Broadalbin so she can only visit [2387] over the weekends and sometimes on Wednesday evenings. Right now her only child, […], has just had her first baby - a boy - so [2387]‘s wife has plenty of excitement in her family! [2387] is still mentally deranged and is still at the Sanitarium but has improved. I will write more in detail a little later on. Thank so much for all that you have done for us.

My dear Mr. Cayce:

It has been a long time since I have written to you and this omission has been caused by the fact that I have no spare time for letter writing. Even my immediate family scarcely ever have word from me. This has been the busiest and one of the most troubled years I have ever had. These are stirring times and the disturbed condition is reflected in the office correspondence. So many vitally important things to do at once - so many emergencies to meet without delay - that I am kept chained to my desk most of the time.

I find upon looking into the matter that I am in arrears in my dues so I am enclosing a check for ten dollars on account. I had no intention of allowing this to happen but events have crowded the subject from my mind.

I want to give you an account of my brother [2387]‘s condition and the effect the physical readings had but the matter is so complicated that I find it impossible to describe in writing. I hope to see you before very long and then I shall try to give you a detailed account. There are some puzzling features that need discussion to clarify. [2387] is suffering from “involutional depression,” according to the doctors at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was moved to Boston early in February or the first part of January and he is still there. I have been unable to get a satisfactory account of his progress, if it is progress, from his wife so I am making the trip to Boston on Saturday, May 24th to see him. He is certainly better physically than he was about the first of the year, but how he is mentally, I don’t know.

Your latest bulletins have just arrived but I have not had time to read them. Right now I am preparing for the Boston and … trip. I am returning here the second of June. I hope it may be possible for me to come to the Congress in June. If it is possible to make it I shall be there. I hope I find a little time later on to write you again. And I hope that all is well with you and your family. I haven’t had much news from the association lately. I am wondering when Mr. Sugrue’s book will be published. I certainly want to have a copy when it is available.

My dear Mr. Cayce:

Replying to your circular letter of January 8th:

Indeed I do wish to set aside a few moment each day in prayer for Divine guidance, as you suggest. I assume you have in mind “group prayer” at a specified time each day. If so, I hope the time set will be at a time that I can participate. No time of the morning is too early for me. I would willingly rise to pray at almost any hour of the early morning. Somehow, I can’t meditate as well in the later evening. But whatever time is set for group prayer - if that is what will be done - I shall try to conform and do as the others do. I had thought I might drive down to Virginia Beach and see you all some time this Fall but my work and the trials of my family keep me more than busy. I can’t seem to get a moment for personal activities, even letter writing. As you no doubt know, the war has added to my office duties and I have had more work than I could do for the past month. New problems, due to the war, are present to us each day and many of them are vitally important. However, I am doing nicely, I finished all letters and cleared my desk and tomorrow morning, Monday I start the day with a clean slate, as the saying goes.

My brother [2387] who was so ill, is slowly recovering, and last week he and his wife went to Florida for six weeks or more. [2387] craved the Florida sunshine and I urged his wife to take him early last Fall soon after he came from the hospital but she didn’t want to go to Florida and she could hardly send him down alone. At Christmas time I saw her and had a talk with her and she agreed to go down with him after New Year’s. So they finally went down about the 20th of this month.

He is still very nervous and quite tense, and he is likely to be so until he becomes absorbed in an interest. It is a domestic tragedy and so far we haven’t solved it. It is one of those things that can’t be written about. I think he should have had a “mental” reading as the case was a problem in psychology. The physical reading was all right as far as it went. I do hope that one of these days in the not too distant future I can drop in on you and have a chat. I should like to hear all about what has been transpiring since last I saw you.

R4. 6/17/42 [813]‘s ltr. to EC:

Two of my brothers are of draft age and their numbers have listed them for an early call. The brother, [2387], who was so ill has nearly recovered and is at home. He has resumed his normal activities but I don’t think he is doing much office work yet. He was still quite nervous when I saw him early in May but I am hoping that he continues to recover. He spent a couple of months in Florida this Winter and Spring and seemed to benefit from the sun and climate.

Enclosed is a small check for the Association. I know it will be useful and only wish I could make it larger.
