This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of December, 1940, in accordance with request made by the wife - Mrs. [2799], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [2185] and Miss [1468].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:40 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2421].
-
As we find, there are specific disturbances as prevent the normal activity; producing - in a great measure - superfluous activity in other portions of the system.
-
These as we find are very definite subluxations that affect the system in relation to the supplying of energies through the nervous system, to certain glandular forces of the body.
-
It is understood - by some - that each organ, each activity of the organs in relation to the whole system, receives impulse for activity from the sympathetic - or a combination of sympathetic and cerebrospinal nerve energies, through branches of these nerves along the cerebrospinal system.
-
Here we find, not in the END of the coccyx, but closer to the last segments of the sacral area and in the 12th and 11th dorsal, such pressures as to supply to the nerve forces great hindrances, - through impulses of the branch end of the cerebrospinal system with the nerves to the sacral, sacroileac plexus, and those that extend to or connect with the glands in the areas about the waistline, - or the divisions between the upper and lower portion of the torso.
-
Hence these glands act to produce, with the assimilating system, an excess avoirdupois, excess of eliminations through the perspiratory system; an obesity to the system in relation to the torso of the body; hindering the proper activity to the area of the lower limbs.
-
Thus, with this disturbed circulation, there are the effects of the eliminations being so diffused with poisons as to produce in the epidermis a rash; that forms first as an irritation under the skin, then the whelps [welts?] or splotches that even form into scaly surfaces - from the eructation of this excess lymph flow.
-
These as we find are also the sources of producing the LACK of proper circulation to the head and to the throat, and the organs of the sensory system. These become impoverished, as do the lower extremities; thus the disturbances as we find.
-
While the appearance of the general health is very good, these must undermine the abilities of the body in many ways unless corrections are made.
-
In making applications that will correct these conditions, we find it will be necessary for a series of changes of activity as related to the characterization of the disturbance in the body.
-
First, - under the direction of, or by a mechanotherapist or an excellent osteopath (such as Dobbins), we would begin having corrections made; that is, a series. These alignments will NOT remain in their place at first. They will cause at times the rash to be apparently more irritating over the body. But these should be kept up. Take three each week for the first two weeks. Then take two each week for the next four weeks.
-
In the middle of the second series of osteopathic treatments (that is, when they have been taken two a week for two weeks), then begin - but not before - with the hydrotherapy treatments, given by the physiotherapist such as Reilly - but these should be given in this manner as we indicate here:
-
First there would be a very light, dry cabinet bath, then a great deal of a fume bath using Atomidine - which is preferable even to iodine, in this particular case. Use at least a tablespoonful of Atomidine in the pint of water that would be allowed to boil under the body, so that the fumes or steam from same would settle over the body.
-
Then following such a fume bath have a thorough rubdown with only Peanut Oil; followed by a light alcohol rub to make for better closing of the pores, and to assist in reducing the irritation.
-
These rubs should be given thoroughly over the body. If there is the use of the Peanut Oil, it will NOT produce greater irritation but will ALLAY the irritation produced by the fume bath, see?
-
With these treatments there should not be the attempt to make adjustments. Let rather the adjustments be made by Dobbins, as indicated; but keep these up - the baths and rubdowns about once each week.
-
As to the diet, - keep away from most all starches. For breads, use the Ry-Krisp, the browned rye bread, the sour and black bread. No white potatoes. No spaghetti. No tomatoes, either raw or cooked.
-
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables; and any or all of the meats as desired, though not large quantities at a time and NO fats in same. NO fried foods.
-
Half an hour before each meal take a two ounce container of grape juice; three-quarters grape juice and one-quarter water, - or three parts grape juice to one part water, you see; but just plain water, NOT carbonated water. Preferably use Welches Grape Juice.
-
For the rash itself, in the beginning, use the Stearate of Zinc Powder with Balsam (Johnson & Johnson, see?).
-
Do these, and as we find, if there is the persistent and consistent activity with these, we will bring the bettered conditions for this body, [2421].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What can be done to overcome the periodical headaches? (A) Take the treatments as suggested.
All of these disturbances have been taken into consideration in that indicated; the excess perspiration, the excess fatty substance that forms in the superficial portions - especially about the torso, the poor circulation, etc. The basic cause is this subluxation indicated, which produces the effect upon the glandular forces in the hips, the sexual organs, about the kidneys and the liver as related to the pancrean activity.
Do as indicated for better conditions for this body.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 12/27/40 Wife [2799]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
We received your lovely letter of the seventeenth and wish to thank you most deeply for your concern and in turn let us extend to you and yours the Happiest New Year’s greetings.
My husband immediately got in touch with Dr. Dobbins and started his first series of adjustments. Up to date he has had five and next Tuesday will be the finish of the first series. He weighed 250 pounds when he started with Dr. Dobbins and has lost 15 pounds within ten days. Everything is being carried out as the reading designates. The only thing that we are not able to get is the soothing powder “Stearate of Zinc Powder with Balsam” made by Johnson & Johnson. My husband has been all over New York City trying to get it, so finally he went to the largest wholesale drug house and they did not have it. However, if the quantity of Zinc Powder and Balsam could be ascertained we could have it made up. What would you advise in this matter? Johnson & Johnson do not make this product.
We are grateful to you for being the channel through which Mr. [2421] can receive help and finally put an end to his physical suffering.
Sincerely, Mrs. [2799]
R2. 12/30/40 EC’s letter to [2421]:
Dear Mrs. [2799]:
Thanks for yours of the 27th - glad to hear Mr. [2421] has gotten on with the suggestions for him - don’t understand about the powder have never had any thing given before that one couldn’t eventually find - possibly you can find the zinc powder with out the balsam - would have to ask a question in a reading for quantity - as have no idea of same as am now.
But do hope you will be able to find same - how is the rash on body - has the gen. health helped that any.
Thanking you and hoping you will let me hear from time to time
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R3. 1/12/41 Wife [2799]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Virginia
My dear Mr. Cayce, Again I am writing you to let you know what a great help the physical reading which you so kindly gave my husband has been. Yes! We finally found a Stearate of Zinc powder with Balsam but it is put up by the United Drug Company and called “Puretest” and it is a Rexall product. It has been a great comfort.
Mr. [2421] has lost 25 pounds and is now entering the second half of the healing program. This week he starts with Reilly. But here is something I should like to ask you. In the reading the length of time these treatments with Reilly should go on is not given. Dr. Reilly gives a series of 12 of these baths and rubdowns for a stipulated fee and we are wondering if one series of these treatments is all that is indicated in this reading.
Another issue has come up since your reading has been so much help to Mr. [2421]. It is this. Mr. [2421] would like to know if you would give him a Business Reading. If the Great Spiritual Beings who work through you give this type of reading we should be eternally grateful to you if you could arrange an appointment for Mr. [2421]. Great work is no doubt the destiny for this talented composer and conductor but what steps to take next is a veritable stumbling block.
In deepest gratitude for your help, I remain
Most Sincerely, Mrs. [2799]
R4. 1/14/41 EC’s letter to [2799]:
Dear Mrs. [2799]:
Thank you for yours of recent date - very glad indeed to hear Mr. [2421] is on the improve - one series with Dr. Reilly should be sufficient then if he is still not feeling the best go back to Dr. Dobbins.
Glad you were able to find the powder - haven’t known the information to be wrong as to the maker before - maybe the ones suggested are bringing out one or maybe have just discontinued - must be something of the kind any way you found it and it is helpful that is what counts.
Now as regards the other reading - would not like to undertake it as a business reading. Possibly would you have the Life reading and questions as to ways and manners of handling - or the use of his abilities - you could get real help from that.
We are told by many this type of reading is the very best of all am sending you some data on the subject - read it over and see if you think it might not answer what you wish to know.
Thanking you and hoping Mr. [2421] will continue to improve and that we may be of further service.
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R5. 1/23/41 Wife [2799]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
The first of February is all right for Mr. [2421]. He will be at home in his room during the hour of 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the first.
He was born on Sunday, at 5:30 p.m. July 30th, 1905, in St. Louis, Missouri. His full name is […].
Here are the questions Mr. [2421] would like to have answered in connection with his reading.
- What procedure should the entity follow in order to obtain immediate work?
- How and when can the entity make right contacts?
- Is there any possibility of a conductorship in Radio in the present year?
- Shall the entity stay in the musical field?
- Shall he be prepared to leave and sell his present home within the near future?
- Has the entity ever been associated with the Secret Schools and the Priesthood?
- Are the entity and his wife twin rays or soul mates?
I was very glad to receive your bulletins of November and December. And - especially so because my husband and I had just finished reading Wing Anderson’s book which you discused in the December bulletin. We found the book profound and one that should be taken seriously. An earnest student of Life is a young dancer […] - well - just last night, January 22nd, he gave an impressive dance recital for which Mr. [2421] wrote or rather was inspired to write the music. Enclosed is a copy of the recital program, it may be of interest to you. All these experiences tieing in so beautifully with what is happening to Mr. [2421] through your help in giving him the physical reading you can readily see why we are so desirous of doing the right thing to make Mr. [2421]‘s life and work one of giving service in his chosen profession. He truly is a master musician and has brought with him this time tremendous equipment.
I note in the December bulletin that you give “Professional” readings. Would that be the same as we are now desirous of receiving? Mr. [2421] has lost around the waist line 5 1/2 inches and is enjoying his treatments immensely.
We are grateful for all you have done for him and hope that some time we shall be able to meet you personally when you are not so crowded in by friends and well-wishers as you were when you lectured at the Shelton Hotel.
Very sincerely, Mrs. [2799]

R7. 2/14/41 Reporting on his Life Reading:
Now about my personal health! As of to-day! The body has responded beautifully so far to treatment with Dr. Dobbins. There are no more headaches and the skin condition is improving slowly. The weight has about reached its own level for the present, for although I sit in that fume bath and sweat buckets I still only lose two to four ounces per week which it the difference that one glass of water would make. Is there perhaps a change of diet necessary? I have found that since eating sour rye and other dark breads that I eat more bread to-day than I have ever before. Do you think this would have the effect of maintaining my weight at a stationary level? I have lost inches that were the result of bloat but in solidifying the muscular and bone weight has not decreased much in the last two weeks.
R8. 2/17/41 EC replied suggesting that he drink grape juice regularly to correct his appetite for certain foods, etc. See complete letter under 2421-2 Reports.
R9. 8/11/42 Letter: See under 2421-2 Reports - advised that the U.S. Supreme Court had granted him a change of name on 9/4/41. [GD’s note: It was changed to a simplified form of a difficult German (?) pronunciation and spelling.]

R11. 11/10/43 Wife [2799]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
For a long time now I have wanted to write to you regarding my husband. Is it too late at this date to get a “check up” reading on his physical condition? Please advise.
If you think it is too late to follow up his previous reading then by all means I wish to make an appointment with you to have another thorough physical reading. This is urgent Mr. Cayce because [2421] is in a serious condition due to his eyes.
The doctors here say he must gain back all that weight he has lost, 140 pounds, in order to get his eye-sight back. He lost all this weight because of his treatments prescribed in your reading, and for a time he felt wonderful. No more headaches and the skin cleared beautifully.
Please advise as soon as possible. As a composer and arranger [2421] must have his sight, blessed lamb I do feel so helpless standing by and nothing to be done.
Also I desire to have a spiritual reading for him. Advise me when you can make the appointment for his physical “check up” or another reading, and also the appointment for the spiritual reading.
The best time for [2421] would be Saturday mornings. [Last paragraph of letter used in 2799-1 Reports.]
R12. 11/27/43 Wife [2799]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I returned to-day from a trip to St. Louis, Missouri, to be with my father-in-law in time to help him pass over to the other side. And, in reading your letter I am surprised to find that someone else signed it, and disregarded the fact that Mr. [2421] could only be reached or have a reading on a Saturday. I mentioned this in my letter to you, because he is constantly on the “go” and cannot be reached, especially on a Monday, which is the day December 27th, the day set in your letter.
I am desirous to have the Check physical, and the Mental and Spiritual readings and will send the check to cover both just as soon as we can get together on a date. The check physical is very important because of his eye condition.
Please let me hear from you if a Saturday appointment may be had.
Sincerely, Mrs. [2421]
R13. 12/3/43 EC’s reply to Mrs. [2799] re Mr. [2421]‘s appointment:
Mrs. [2799] …, N.Y.
Dear Mrs. [2799]
I have yours of the 27th, regarding the check reading for Mr. [2421] which is set for the 27th in the afternoon. I wish it were possible for us to change this to a Saturday, but owing to the great number of appointments on hand, we find that this would be impractical for sometime. In fact, it would be possibly the latter part of January before it would be possible for us to get it in on a Saturday.
You can’t imagine just how many hundreds and thousands of requests we have on hand and of course each and everyone are very sure that their’s is the most important that we have. If it is possible for him to keep in any way the afternoon of the 27th, be cause to let us know with the questions. The other dates I am sure you have a record of. Let us hear about this.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC/vw]
R14. 12/8/43 [2799]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
In your letter of the fifteenth of November you put the time for the check physical at 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the 27th. The best [2421] can do to be quiet and uninterrupted, he has asked me to write you, is that he will be in the men’s room on the third floor of the National Broadcasting Company, Rockefeller Centre, N.Y.C.
And here are the questions for the check physical.
- What is the condition and how to treat his feet and especially his great toes?
- What about diet?
- What is the hidden condition of his eyes?
- And what to do about his eyes?
- What further treatment can clear his skin condition?
- Please give a diagnosis of his heart, is it in any way affected?
Now, my dears, to find him in the afternoon for his Mental and Spiritual Reading is quite a problem. Your letter of the 15th, of November gave the time as 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. the 27th of Dec. also; and the best place to find him will be at the Columbia Broadcasting Company, 52nd Street and Madison Avenue, N.Y.C., in studios 22 or 21, for the above time.
And here are the questions for the Mental and Spiritual reading:
- What is my course in this life?
- What karmic connection of long standing do I have with [2799] my wife?
- What to do to get illumination?
- Why do I have such a great fear and how can I conquer it?
- What Karmic connection do I have with Mrs. Myrtle Maynard-Brown?
I sincerely hope this information sufficient to make the proper soul contact for these readings. During the week [2421] is all over New York City and never in one place long enough to put a finger on him. However, I do hope these conditions are all right. Enclosed is my check covering the
10.00 for the check physical and20.00 for the Mental and Spiritual reading.I wish you and yours a spiritually joyous Christmas and happy New Year.
R15. 12/11/43 EC’s letter to Mrs. [2799]:
Mrs. [2799] …, New York
Dear Mrs. [2799]
I have yours of the eighth, with the request for check physical reading which is to be on the morning of December 27, 10:30 to 11:30 EWT. Now the mental and spiritual, for the afternoon of that same day. Whether it will be worth anything to him, not being able to keep the time, I don’t know. If the reading is going to be worth anything, it is worth his taking the time out. If not, I would not fool with it if I were him, but you let me know about this. If he could take out even thirty minutes in the afternoon and be at some place and let us know just where, we will be glad to try to undertake it, but if he is not quiet and meditative, just what it will give, I can’t be much responsible for, so please let me know about this.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC/vw]
