GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2462].
-
Now as we find, there are disturbing conditions that are gradually causing an unbalanced condition through the functioning of the organs.
-
While in the present these conditions have not caused other than disturbance in the functioning of the organs, these continued distresses may bring those disturbances that would be harder to eliminate; though at the present time, with the correction of that producing same, there may be brought near to the normal forces in the physical functioning of this body, [2462].
-
These, then, as we find, are the causes AND the effects that are being produced in this body in the present:
-
Owing to the activities and some minor conditions that developed from activities in times back, there are segments along the cerebrospinal system that produce such impingements as to have caused a deflection of the energies supplied by the nervous system in its relationships to the activities of blood supply to portions of the body.
-
We find that these impingements exist in rather a complex form in the present. Those areas from the 5th and 6th dorsal to the 8th and 9th dorsal are in such an alignment as to produce a variation in those impulses in the activity of emptying the duodenum.
-
Thus the activities in the liver are such as to produce a toxic condition through the body.
-
Also there is a slowing of the activity in the refuse forces, or the tendency for the drosses to be slow in their evacuation; though at many periods there is apparently very good elimination or activity through the alimentary canal.
-
But a pressure also from the first cause of this condition exists in the coccyx end of the spine. This, with its reflex upon the activities in the nerve and blood flow, has contributed to that condition which exists in the body.
-
Thus we have two characters of lesions in the cerebrospinal system, producing these effects that contribute to the disturbance in the functioning of the system:
-
In the blood supply there is produced a variation in the pulsation, that would be noted if there is the least exertion of the body; that is, the notice beyond that of what should be normal by passivity and activity of the mental forces of the body.
-
This causes at times a skip in the heart beat. This is not a heart condition, but it is as a sympathetic reaction to conditions that exist in controlling factors in the central nervous system; by pressures in the areas indicated, and the effects produced upon liver - or the whole of the hepatic circulation.
-
From this activity in the organs, or this system of assimilation, we find at times not an indigestion but a nervous upset in same; causing at times certain foods to produce an overamount of gas, or belching, owing to that condition which is a tendency towards stoppage in the lower portion of the duodenum.
-
Then there is the headache at times; the lack of obtaining the proper amount of rest from the normal relaxing of the body in sleep becomes a part of the effect at times.
-
The lower limbs at periods appear to be slow, or tend to sleep, or the circulation becomes disturbed through those areas; the feet and limbs become heavy.
-
As indicated, these are effects - not causes - of the disturbing forces with this body.
-
We have at times the condition with the lower portion of the hepatic circulation; when the kidneys are affected, not other than sympathetically, in their attempt to aid in the elimination of these toxic forces that are created in the body. A burning through the urethra, with the evacuation of the bladder, occurs at times.
-
These are from a form of acidity. This may produce such an effluvium in the blood as to cause at times an irritation in the superficial circulation; so that areas over the body will at times appear to be itchy, or as if there is a movement under the skin itself.
-
These as we find are those disturbances with this body at the present time; and with the elimination of these causes, or these sources of irritation, we should find many other portions of the body responding, and the much nearer to normal forces for this body.
-
First, then, in making application of those things that will be the most beneficial:
-
We would begin first with having three thorough, general osteopathic adjustments; with special reference to those areas between the upper dorsal and the 9th dorsal area, and the coccyx and sacral areas.
-
Take these about two each week - that close together, you see.
-
After the third osteopathic treatment, - then we would have a full hydrotherapy treatment. This would include first a good, hot shower; then a cabinet bath; then a colonic irrigation; and then a shower with hot and cold water, followed by a thorough massage - especially using Peanut Oil along the spine, all that the body will absorb. Then have the rubdown, of course, with alcohol.
-
Rest from these, then, for ten days.
-
Then have another series of at least SIX osteopathic adjustments; followed, the next week, with another full, complete hydrotherapy treatment as indicated in the first.
-
After the heavier meal each day, take a small quantity of ALCAROID; about half a teaspoonful dissolved first in a little water, then the glass filled, and then another glass of water taken following same.
-
In the matter of diet, - while the body is a very good dietitian in some respects, we would refrain from any drinks of carbonated waters.
-
Occasionally, about once a month, dissolve a lithia tablet in a glass of water and drink it.
-
Refrain from much fried foods.
-
Not too much of pastries or cake. Pies, especially of fruit or the like, are much preferable for this body.
-
Once each day have a portion of the meal consist of raw vegetables.
-
These are those conditions, as we find, that will bring for this body, [2462], the near to normal forces.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Until the cause is removed, may anything be done to relieve the headaches when they occur, which is every 7 to 10 days? (A) Begin with these treatments at once, and we will not have much cause for the return of these headaches.
-
(Q) Does the condition of the eyes have anything to do with producing these headaches? (A) Rather we find that the condition of the eyes, or the general nervous pressure, is from that indicated - so that the upper dorsal area is to be included in the specific osteopathic corrections. It is the sympathetic reaction that produces the burning of the eyes occasionally. These will be improved by the general treatments and the adherence to the applications suggested.
-
(Q) What produces the canker sores in the mouth and what will relieve or prevent them? (A) These are from the acidity in the system; thus the necessity of eliminating the poisons by the colonics and the general hydrotherapy treatments.
If there will be used a good alkaline antiseptic for the gums, such as Lavoris or Glyco-Thymoline, we find that this will aid in keeping the mouth fresh and clean.
Do these as we have indicated, and we will bring the better conditions for this body.
- We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/7/41 [2462]‘s letter to EC:
…, Penna.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I should like to report the progress I have been making in carrying out the suggestions in my reading. Mr. [1100] has told us several times the importance of following them to the letter and I believe I have done so to the best of my ability.
The one outstanding deviation has been due to the fact that there are no physiotherapists in the city who have equipment to do the complete job at one place, thereby making it necessary for me to take this phase of the treatment in two parts, as the enclosed sheet for your files records.
The Osteopathic treatments were performed by Dr. Howard McClelland, … I am glad to say that no one could have been more conscientious and thorough in his work. He will always be open minded toward anything the Association may develop, - may indeed become an active member.
The results of the treatments have been very satisfactory though there is still room for improvement. The headaches have not entirely disappeared but the decreased severity and less frequent recurrence is very encouraging. The functioning of the elimination system shows signs of becoming normal. I have had two canker sores showing that the acid condition is still not entirely cleared up.
I should like to inquire if there is any case history in the files of the Association of an ailment similar to mine which might offer suggestions regarding specific foods to be eaten or not to be eaten.
Mrs. [2441] and I are immeasurablely grateful for the help and inspiration you have given us, - I sometimes wonder if we are deserving and can do our part in repayment to others!
Very sincerely, [2462]

R2. 6/19/41 GD’s note: Mr. [2462] obtained his second reading, a Life Reading, for which his wife, Mrs. [2441], was present. See 2462-2.
R3. 8/17/41 He requested a Physical Reading 2577-1 for his brother.
R4. 1/12/43 His wife requested Mr. [2462]‘s second Physical reading, saying: “He still has the headaches, although they are not as vigorous as before. He wonders about his diet, his exercise, and just what he can do to help relieve this situation.”
R5. 1/15/43 Mr. [2462] wired these questions:
- Can any suggestions be given to prevent recurrences of canker sores?
- Irregular elimination?
- Headaches?
- Spinal disorders?
- Specify all foods desirable and all foods harmful.
- Would Vitamin Concentrate be helpful?
- Give dental condition and recommendations.
R6. 1/16/43 He obtained his third reading, 2462-3.

Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I would be very pleased if you were to accept my application for associate membership in the association. A check to cover the membership dues is enclosed.
Let me first express my gratitude for the help and inspiration you have given to Mrs. [2441]. I know she is conscientiously complying with the directions recommended by her reading and that she in her turn will follow your splendid example of helping others to be enlightened.
My own malady is not particularly serious now but I feel that it is imperative that I discover its causes very soon. The manifestations of my trouble are headaches with accompanying muscular and nervous disruptions in the neck, shoulders, back, stomach and intestines. A physician has told me that somewhere a vicious cycle is started which affects all the parts mentioned, and it appears that the headaches must run its course before relaxation and normalcy is restored. The headaches recur every seven to ten days and last from early morning to late at night with varying degrees of severity.
Perhaps I should say at this point that I am an architect, though still employed as a draftsman, and my work therefore is very close and rather confining.
These headaches started about five years ago when I was working very hard, away from home, eating restaurant food. I had my eyes examined and was fitted with glasses shortly thereafter. Three years ago the prescription was slightly changed. My most recent eye examination was two months ago by a different oculist who changed my prescription so much that perhaps faulty glasses may have made my headaches more complex.
A year ago I followed a diet prescribed by a physician. His diagnosis was intestinal toxemia. The diet and medication strove to get the blood pressure and elimination normal, and to find allergies. I still refrain from eating many of the foods he said were harmful.
Last July my tonsils were removed.
I have made every effort to keep my teeth in good repair during this five year period of headaches.
Osteopathic treatments occasionally have made an oncoming headache less severe but they have not forestalled their recurrence.
Another very annoying ailment to which I have been subject for many years is canker sores in the mouth.
The most convenient time for me to receive a reading is the morning. I can plan to stay here at home until its completion before going to work, so that any time up until perhaps eleven o’clock will be satisfactory.
I hope my account has been neither less complete nor more detailed than is necessary. Hoping that you will be able to throw some encouraging light on this long standing enigma,
I remain
Very sincerely yours, [2462]
