GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [2577].
-
As we find, there are specific disturbing conditions which prevent a normal circulation and elimination through the areas about the right eye.
-
While there is little disturbance in the vision, this causes a great deal of disturbance to the lids and the area about the right eye.
-
We find that this arose in some times back from an inflammation which produced a form of strep in the blood supply.
-
Owing to pressures that existed in portions of the cerebrospinal system, as coordinate from the central nervous system to the sensory forces - (a small ganglia in the 2nd and 3rd dorsal area, and in the 3rd cervical area) - there was prevented the normal flow of eliminations from the areas especially about the right eyelid, even the ball itself at times becoming involved.
-
Applications that have been made have failed to produce the distributing of the disturbance so as to eliminate causes. For, effects rather than the sources or causes have been treated.
-
The general health of the body we find very good. But there should be precautions taken regarding those tendencies for a disturbance in the glands of digestion. For, an irregularity exists as related to the activity of the pancreas. Thus at times there are irregulations as related to the activity of the kidneys and bladder.
-
With the applications for the removal of the causes, then, to be sure the inflammation which already exists - or the effects produced - must be taken into consideration. But with a few weeks of application for a correction and the stimulating of the centers in the cerebrospinal system that would cause the normal flow of impulse of circulation, so that eliminations could be near normal, we find that this would aid in correcting the disturbance with this body.
-
Use as an eye wash the mild boracic acid; at least twice each day - for at least six weeks.
-
In the beginning, have three osteopathic adjustments each week - at least for the first two weeks; by a specialist for eyes, ears and throat; making those corrections as will be found necessary in the upper dorsal area and in the 3rd and 2nd cervical area.
-
Continue with the osteopathic adjustments then, at least twice each week, until there are better drainages or eliminations set up; and we will find that the inflammation about the lachrymal ducts and the eyelids and the eyeball will disappear.
-
After the first six osteopathic adjustments (not before), begin also with the use of the Violet Ray (hand machine, bulb applicator) each evening to those areas along the cerebrospinal system; from the 3rd and 4th dorsal to the 1st and 2nd cervical; about three or four minutes each evening.
-
As to those warnings concerning the pancreas condition, - be mindful that in the diet there are not sugars taken, nor any of those properties that carry carbonated waters OR any product of the hops, or of such natures.
-
Do these as we find, consistently. It may be necessary for the second series of the osteopathic adjustments, as well as the Violet Ray; but keep these up for at least six weeks in the first series - using the cleansing solutions throughout that period; and we will bring better conditions for this body, [2577].
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/2/41 Letter: “I have received your diagnosis of my case, which I read with great interest. Of course it is my bad eye which concerns me most. Trouble in my pancreas was news to me. Your advice as to treatments for my eye will be followed as exactly as possible. There is no osteopathic eye, ear and throat specialist in Pittsburgh - none nearer than Grove City, which is too far for me to go 3 times a week. So I have selected Dr. R. G. Dorrance to treat me… He is a young man, the successor to the late Dr. Beale, whom I knew well. I expect to let you know what progress I make in following your directions.”
R2. 9/21/41 Sister-in-law [2441]‘s letter: “Dr. Dorrance declares that no person without some medical training could with such uncanniness put their finger upon the source of [2577]‘s trouble. He thinks that you have had some training and are not telling about it… [2577] is trying very hard to carry out the directions. And his 2 boys are very much interested in you. They have both read the material [re. A.R.E.] which you so kindly sent to me. [2577] asked for a copy to take to his doctor.”
R3. 11/7/41 Letter: “You are probably entitled to a report on the progress I have been making with my bad eye. I have had 18 osteopathic adjustments in the order and frequency your reading suggested; also nightly treatments with the violet ray hand machine; otherwise no medicines or treatments, or any change in my daily habits. The results are not definite. While I have not had any abscesses or styes since the middle of August, and while I have not suffered much discomfort, the congestion is still considerable, and the symptoms of red lids and bloodshot eyeball persist. Perhaps it would be fair to say that I am a little better and that the conditions seem to be stabilized at a level of low-grade chronic congestion. I am discontinuing all treatments for a while to observe results which may give me a clue to further measures. It seems reasonable to assume that when I have one good eye and one bad eye, the reason lies in the blood circulation. I think your reading presented the correct diagnosis. The only trouble is that nobody seems to know how to stimulate that defective circulation.”
R4. 12/2/41 EC’s letter: “Thank you for yours of the 7th…appreciate your giving a report on progress made; do hope you are continuing on the improve even with the let-up in the applications suggested.
“Do you ever go to N.Y., Mr. [2577]? If so, might I suggest when you are there that you see Dr. Frank Dobbins? He is an osteopath but has had, and now has, several cases of eye trouble, and is following the suggestions in readings. He has gotten most marvelous results in practically every case of eye trouble he has had, and that is why I would suggest that you see him, possibly let him give you a treatment, and he might outline something special for your local man to do that would help.
“If at any time you would like to have a check-up on progress made, know we will be glad to do so. At times Dr. Dobbins has had such done to help him along with progress being made.
“Thanking you and trusting you will get real definite help, I am…”
R5. 12/14/42 ARE envelope returned marked “Moved, Left no address.”
R6. 7/12/43 EC’s letter to Mrs. [2441]: “Your husband’s brother, Mr. [2577] and wife came in to see us a few moments one day last week, didn’t stay very long, spoke so nice of you and your interest in the work, felt too that we could refer anyone to the Dr. to whom he went. Was very, very glad to meet them. Wish had had chance to talk more with them.”
Background
Background
B1. 8/18/41 Letter: I am writing to ask for a Physical Reading because of a stubborn inflammation in my right eye.
I am by profession an Architect; age 51. General health good; general habits temperate; diet not restricted in any way - just normal. Use eyes in reading and drawing more than average person; wear glasses. Vision in left eye above normal; vision in bad right eye normal.
First eye trouble accompanied measles in 1900. Eyes were swollen and flax-seed poultices were applied. Had granulated lids in 1912 and got first glasses. Experienced severe attack of granulated lids in 1916. Treatment: Silver Nitrate and ice packs. Exposure to dust and sunlight, as in playing tennis, generally irritated eyes. Recent trouble began in July 1939 - at about time oculist prescribed bi-focals - in right eye only. Symptoms - Redness, swollen lids, soreness in lids; eye feels full of sand in morning on waking up. Meibomian glands congested with pus; ulcers like styes form at times; often refuse to come to a head; just remain hard sore spots. Frequently eyeball gets blood-shot. Vision not impaired except at times of extreme soreness.
These attacks are intermittent; last 3 or 4 days, followed by weeks of comparative freedom from trouble. But not cause of attacks can be found except that excessive eye-strain from auto driving, and reading or drawing at night, seems to bring trouble.
I have been under care of oculist for years. Three or four times I have had to have a “chalation” removed from the eyelid (This is not a sore or inflamed spot, but a hard lump. Sometimes occurs on good eye.). I have had my lenses checked frequently. The present soreness has been diagnosed as “Marginal Blepharitis” by oculists.
The following treatments have been tried:
- Application of Yellow Oxide Ointment of Mercury. It is too strong and inflames the eye more than ever.
- Hypodermic injections of Staphylococcus toxoid. No result.
- Hypodermic injections of a serum, prepared from pus taken from eye ulcer, containing Staphylococcus Alba. No results.
- Removal of two abscessed teeth. No results.
- Complete cleaning of all teeth by dental surgeon to arrest pyorrhea, already existing in lower front teeth. No results.
- Heat applications, with use of Borofax Salve. This is the most corrective treatment, but efficacy diminishes.
In addition to above, I have had my nose and throat examined (Tonsils and adenoids were removed in 1924). They are okay.
Also I have tried a no-sugar diet, medicine to cure protein allergy, tests to discover specific allergy, and a half dozen kinds of eyedrops. I even tried Vitamin B tablets. Nothing tried so far has been effective except application of heat.
