GC: You will have before you the entity [2487], born December 14, 1902, in Decatur City, Iowa, who seeks a continuation of her Life Reading, with regard to her present life and work. You will answer the questions she submits, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [2487].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is it to be that I am to marry in this incarnation? (A) In the present environments of the entity, such conditions and relationships are the matter of the choice of the entity. And as we find, this is a possibility and a probability. But as to the choices that the entity will make, as to who or just when, - it is not at present indicated in this experience. Yet if the entity does choose to, this may be accomplished - but it is and must be of the entity’s own choice.
-
(Q) If I am to be reunited with my mate this time please tell me any important things that marked our relationship before that will influence this union? (A) This as we find may be better indicated by those responses in the associations as will be experienced when and as the entity is in associations with such an individual. It is not necessarily true that any special individual may be called a mate, as there have been many - as we have indicated in the experiences of the entity in the earth - in which there may be the present relationships that would have much to do with the completing of efforts, the completing of activities in relationships to others. And these, as all that is of the creative nature, must respond one to another; as in mechanical things, the mortise to the tenon; as in all such relationships, there are those attractions. That the mental abilities of individuals are such that these may be directed in this or that channel is an indication of free will. And it is not necessarily true, because there were relationships of such natures before, that these will be the same relationships in the present. But these are choices.
The answer is within self. For, it applies to material associations just as to the spiritual counterpart, “My spirit beareth witness with thy spirit.” The manifestations of same are through that which is the builder, when considered in the material plane - the MIND.
- (Q) In the last reading it was stated that I should stay in my present position for two years. This I have done. What specific suggestions do you make now for changing to something in which I will be able to more fully accomplish what I incarnated for this time? (A) As we find, the preparation of self in a mental attitude and state is now such that, if there is the determination within self - from the information indicated - as to what ideals and purposes are in the experience of the individual, and if the entity then knows what it has decided, what it wishes to do - the way (if the entity is letting it be known that it desires changes) will be opened for the entity.
When there are definite conditions set in motion to carry through with purposes, the mental and spiritual forces are set in motion, and THEN the individual chooses the course, the place, the direction it takes.
- (Q) If I am not to change positions, is there any karmic condition which I am to work out here? (A) As just given, - or much might be said respecting karmic conditions. These are builded more in the mental self than in the spiritual self. For, changes - IDEALS, not ideas but ideals - are of spiritual concepts. If the entity rejects such, as it sometimes does in self, these naturally build barriers. But these are as we have just indicated - have you chosen what you desire to do? Have you decided whether you would like, - not merely like, but as an ideal, - to build a home and its environs, taking over its duties, its obligations? or is there such of self that it desires to accomplish its ideals with its own freedom of activity?
Then, in such choices that which has been of the karmic nature becomes the activative principle in the experience. But if there is the choice that this or that, whatever may be the choice, will be met in Him, then the karmic force is not necessarily something that you must meet irrespective. For, a way is opened through Him. This ye may accept, this ye may reject.
-
(Q) Have I previously been associated with my present principal and is this affecting our relationship? (A) There has been an association. This does affect the relationship. As to the choices taken respecting future relationships, this depends upon ideals and principles that are set in motion by each.
-
(Q) It was suggested also in my reading that I was to write. Can you advise me as to the type of material I should attempt? (A) It has been indicated as to what type. Whether it is to be of the nature of those influences that are as texts, or whether in the nature of stories that would influence the moral or the life of individuals, is a choice the entity may make. But let the basis be of the historical nature if there would be the outlining of that to which the entity may best adapt its abilities for successful preparation of such data, paper, book, leaflet, pamphlet, or whatever manner in which same would be presented.
-
(Q) Should I join the Waacs, the Spars or the women’s reserve corp of the Marines? (A) This, again, depends upon what is thy ideal. If it is the desire, or if it is the idea, prompted because of a general environ, this would not be well. If it is prompted by a deeper insight or knowledge, or desire to offer self and self’s abilities in a direction that offers an opportunity for fulfillment of ideals concerning same, it is well - whether it be the Waacs or the Waves or the Marine reserve corp. But those activities as would have to do with Waacs would be more in keeping with the PRESENT tendencies of the entity.
-
(Q) Any other advice at this time? (A) As indicated before, - first, in all considerations, know self and thine own ideal, - spiritually, mentally, materially. Stress not one more than the other; but an idea without a spirit, or based upon spiritual ideals, is already dead - or is without life, and may be only as an automatic reaction.
DO keep true to thy ideals.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 4/12/43 Letter from Miss [1387] to EC: ”…Poor [2487]! Her reading did not give her very much hope for the future she wants did it?…”
R2. 4/15/43 EC’s letter to [1387]: ”…Haven’t heard a word from [2487] - guess she must be disgusted with the last reading and looks on it as too indefinite, yet she hasn’t asked a word [?] and couldn’t explain a thing unless she is seeking to know - the information will not give us something to do that we must do for ourselves, and what it is asked for makes all the difference in the world as to what is given - we cannot escape ourselves - the ability is within us already - else it isn’t there at all - we only have the stimuli to cause it to work and we become aware of it all…”
R3. 4/17/43 [2487]‘s letter reporting on her mother’s condition; then:
Now as to my reading. I was amused and not surprised. Of course I had hoped you’d tell me when and where I would meet this man but maybe that was too much to expect. I have every intention of saying yes if he is at all possible. I can’t think things would get to that stage if it was not possible. I laughed because I suppose I do have moments when I wonder if it would be worthwhile to be tied down. I have not gotten any offer for another job but still hope. If I knew mother would not be with me more than a year longer though I’d hate to move her. So you see it is not simple but I have not had to settle anything yet nor have I had time to do so.
I have been teaching and coming into the College to work 2 or 3 usually 3 times a week and with all the extra things at school and a few at home I seem to have no time to rest but I found that can’t go on indefinitely. I finally had to take some time and rest much to my disgust. I thought I could hold out till summer but I did not plan just right. I guess it will take several more times here before I learn some things. I do hope my next trip I have more memory of things I should know.
Are you coming back to N.Y. this spring? I hope so. Of course I don’t blame you for not coming.
I still hope to have some time in Aug. to get to the Beach and hope to be of some use at that time. If I get this study finished I certainly can’t be so busy next year.
To give you some idea of what my life is like. Last week I was putting on an assembly in addition to regular work. Of course there are a lot of kids out of school both mumps and measles so there is make up work to see to also.
This week: quarter marks and grade cards, plus a departmental test which was to be checked and errors tabulated, guidance folders finished, visual aid orders to be turned in, then an order of pictures for yearbook to be taken money counted etc. 2 sizes of pictures could be ordered etc. plus another blank that was dumped on my desk and then the home and school decides to have the kids fingerprinted and I get 2 more sets of blanks to make out or see that the kids do them satisfactorily. Mind you I just got through with 4 set or more for high school enrollment. Outside of this all I have to do is teach school and hope they learn a little Algebra. Now do you see why I don’t write.
Now my difficulty. (Of course I was not going to admit this to anyone) I finally got a very severe attack of hemroids. spelling?? I was not sick but had to stay in bed as I could not sit up. So may I ask about the formula mentioned in the book. I have loaned my copy so I can’t look it up. Was it Tam? If you have any made up please send it on when convenient and I will reimburse you when you let me know.
Saw Evelyn’s letter. No I am not disgusted only busy. I put in too many late hours tabulating that data.
Sorry Hugh Lynn had to go in the Army. I hope the work you mentioned is carried out and also hope that I may have some time in the future to help. I’ll give my vacations when I get this study finished. Of course there is that MAN. Do you think he will interfere? Since I don’t seem to know him we can disregard him at present.
Am glad the book is doing well.
Love, [2487]
Oh yes this Indian whom [1387] thinks is quite good and has told her some things which come out says I will marry. I was skeptical of him only because everything he tells me sounds so rosy for my future. I hope he is right.
R4. 4/19/43 EC’s letter to [2487]:
Dear Miss [2487]
Don’t know what will ever do with you if you don’t learn to spell my name, it is C-A-Y-C-E.
Oh yes have felt that could feel you thinking of me but thought it was possibly my own wishful thinking, but was anxious to know what you got out of the reading. It is amazing to me to observe the difference in the information to different people. As some one has said - it never helps a body who is able to help themselves - wish could cabbage on to you and [1387] here at the same time. Don’t know whether would get much work done or not but sure would have a good time discussing some of the material that has been given here and there.
Glad to hear your Mother is feeling some better - I know you realize that if she can be made to feel pretty good through these next year or so you will have accomplished a very great deal, and believe she can be made to feel that.
Oh you knew it wouldn’t tell you where to pick that fellow up. You are a lot more choosy than that. Yet am reminded it did tell a fellow once [[1861] - [2072]] to go to a certain meeting in Cal. a certain year and there he would meet the girl he should marry - he went - well he is married to a girl whom he met at that meeting - now you may ask why didn’t it tell you something like that - that would be too much of a cut and dried thing for you - Now wouldn’t it? For just as you added - you wonder if it would be worthwhile to be tied down. Not until you make up your mind about that will the man appear - but when you do there he will be. Is your mind made up?
You certainly have a full day’s work - something like my own these days, only mine runs far into the night - and have to hit the deck about 5.30 to 6 A.M., since H. L. is away, to keep the home fires burning - and to get my mail half way answered - yet find it is piling up on me, and about to get ahead of me don’t think realized what the book would do to me and my time. And last week - goodness me they doubled up on you - but that you could do or get done some way in the regular hours - how about it when it runs on and on like the last three days. For me 263 letters besides 6 readings to give. But guess it’s every fellow to his liking as the lady said who kissed the cow.
Yes, see why you didn’t write - but just to know that you are happy about it all will be some help. Don’t let it get you down, nor become a grumbler.
Haven’t any of T-I-M here but will call now and have a jar sent you. Well, they have it on the way - think you will find this one of the best things ever used. But take an exercise morning and evening: stand erect and slowly raise your arms above your head and gradually rise on your toes, (this before you put on your shoes at that!) and then try and touch the floor in front of you. Do this at least three times morning and evening - do as much for you as all the things you can ever take or use. If this should fail, I have another that will work for you.
Do we miss H. L. - can’t get used to it - but have to carry on - want to get [1387] to head up the research group if can persuade her - reckon can?
Had another letter from publishers today - going on 3rd printing - good for six weeks isn’t it? Maybe the Indian is right - can be, you know - am sure you can if you will say “YES”.
Thanks a lot for letting me hear from you, be looking for you this summer.
With love, [signed] Edgar Cayce
Remember me to your Mother
R5. 5/1/43 [2487]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Is that better? At least I spelt it right. Of course I do hit the wrong keys sometime.
My mama always taught me I must address my elders and betters with the proper respect. Therefore it had not occurred to me that I might address you otherwise.
As I read the book I began to say Edgar along with Tom Sugrue. I think I might have adopted the Persian name Uhjltd but I can’t pronounce it let alone spell it. I’ll have to work on something.
[1387] read me the story of the Egyptian period [294-147—152, 5748-?, 281-42, 281-44, etc.]. I am fascinated. Also I think of so many questions that I want to ask I nearly explode that I am here and practically tied. Still I hope. I am not a patient soul though. I’ll probably have to come back many times to learn that.
I received the package. Many thanks! I will be glad to send the money if I am told to whom and how much. I do appreciate your trouble. Oh yes I am practically back to normal. I do take the exercise. I think you are right that I need exercise more than anything else.
Last weekend I spent mostly in bed with a cold. I do seem to be a mess these days. I think that I will live however and get straightened out eventually.
Will try to write a better letter later.
Oh yes, I want [1387] to write up the story of the pyramids for the bulletin. I think that would be a very good issue. She says “fine but what do I use for time?”
Love, [2487]
R6. 5/10/43 EC’s letter to [2487]:
Dear Miss [2487]:- Yes sir-ree, that is much better. Some people are very foolish about the way their name is spelled - happened to be one of those simple folk. Your Mama done told you about the men, O I see. Well, honest, to me there are some people I meet could never say anything else but some handle on their name, like Miss Gladys who has lived in our house for 18 years or more, could never call her anything but Miss Gladys, and then there is you or [1387] if I write or speak have to just make myself say Miss. Why I do not know, just another one of those things about a simpleton I guess.
Note from [1387] today with a line about the Egyptian story, think she can make a humdinger, if you will pardon the expression, out of that, don’t you? Well, that Old boy Ra-Ta] must have been something those days - a shame he can’t get a little of the oump [?] that he seems to have had then.
I do not know, will ask the man and see how much he charges for the box, jar or whatever it was he sent you - will have an excuse to write again - if can find time. How fast can you write on typewrite - don’t you want to spend the summer at the Beach and work here in the office - How much Guarantee, plenty to do and a good time doing it.
Colds this time of the year are a mess - yet find many people have been having them and have a hard time getting rid of them.
Thanks for writing - that is the cutest card ever saw - you may not have patience, but so long as you keep your bump of humor you will be going forward, for they can never keep you down long.
Thanks and love [signed] Edgar Cayce
R7. 5/16/43 [2487]‘s letter to EC:
…, N.J.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Let me assure you that you never need an excuse to write to me. Only a reminder as I always enjoy them and will eventually answer then.
As to this summer. I don’t know what my typing rate is I have thought lately I would take a test with the kids sometime and see. I think I am pretty punk but I find I am much faster than the kids that have taken typing for a year. Of course I mean the H.S. variety not the business school ones. The time this summer is the only question. You see I am still working on that Phd. Furthermore I am working for it solely because my reading said to do so. I have not gotten quite as much done to date as I hoped. It is no joke to teach and do a dissertation at the same time. Therefore I have been planning on summer school and working on it. I hoped then to have 2 or 3 (Now I fear 2) weeks at the Beach. That would be the last 2 weeks in August and first of Sept. Don’t mention it to [1387] but I am hoping to persuade her to come too. Of course things are uncertain as both of our mothers’ health is poor. Right now my mother is much better though. This is a ramble but you can get my thought. I would much rather spend the time working for the Association than at the Summer School but feel I should finish first. I just don’t know. As to money because that is what I though you meant I don’t think I could rate much as a typist. I as a member feel I’d like to give some time. I would like to work the whole summer but don’t feel I can manage it this summer.
Right now I have every intention of spending my vacation time at the Beach when I can. Maybe it will work out. I don’t know maybe it is wishful thinking but I somehow have the idea that I was to get that degree partly because of some future work which I might do. I certainly am not much impressed by it but there are people who are more impressed by anything that comes from a Phd. I can’t see why but they do. If that is the reason I certainly must get it. I am sure that it is not making nor will it make any difference whether or not I get a degree if I stay here.
Oh Yes the man has not shown up yet. Maybe I don’t have time to concentrate on him.
I think the Egyptian material that [1387] is working on will be very good and very interesting. If she does not get going on the pyramids I think I’ll start myself this summer.
Wish I were at the Beach now. Bet it is warmer than here. I could use a little sun. Think I’d get over this cold if the weather would clear.
Hope you can get the drift of my thought and will not be too disappointed. Maybe you can figure a way out.
As ever, love, [2487]
R8. 5/20/43 EC’s letter to [2487]:
Dear Miss [2487]
Thanks - could I but find the time to write these days. Certainly am having a time trying to answer people. Can hardly stay away from the phone long enough to write even a few letters between times. Sure need some help, but seems as hard to find as everything else; just can’t be had.
Do hope you get to the Beach this summer - if it would work out like that, guess you and [1387] could occupy the same room, couldn’t you. Well have one for you. Don’t mean by that would wish to tie either of you down to work, but could use you, tho might get so busy talking with you all that would forget that there were letters to write. Have had a siege of it this last week - 1st had five good ladies from Chicago, the Church papers, then the next day a reporter from Canada came to interview me, so you can imagine how many letters I have gotten written - so have a pile about a foot high to answer, and when you just hunt and punch where the fore finger hits, don’t go very fast nor do a very good job of it either.
Glad your Mother feeling pretty good just now and hope she keeps like that. Can understand about the Phd. and all that and am sure there is a reason for it. Hope you make it without too much trouble.
Good, will look for [2487] at the beach this summer for sure. Maybe you will meet that man at the Beach. Have heard of stranger things. How would that be?
Yes - I like the way [1387] has started out with the Egyptian material, and have quite a number of stories that will fit the picture think you will like.
Been nice here of late - roses are lovely and strawberries fine - wish you were near enough to send you in a bowl. Have put up a few, very few, but enough to taste.
Haven’t you gotten rid of that cold as yet - use Glyco packs over your face and neck, will take it right out.
Have to run along now, some one waiting for me.
Be looking for you.
With lots of love [signed] Edgar Cayce
R9. 6/7/43 EC’s letter to [2487]:
Dear [2487]:-
Here I go again - maybe shouldn’t be writing as have so many more to do, but can’t resist when there is the opportunity to talk with you even on paper, or maybe as usual would be completely dumb if it wasn’t on paper. Let’s hope they won’t stop travel, would be the ruination of too many people here about if they were.
Well don’t think you and [1387] will be much of a bother - you have to take care of your own room - and go out for your meals. Who would it bother, because I think so much of each of you doesn’t bother Mrs. C, am sure, for am perfectly harmless - and she know it.
I sure need some one who can answer a letter for me - that is what gets my goat - even something you like to do can become a drudge if done too much, seems to me - but do have some lovely letters from people - if had any vanity, it must be in the clouds now. OH yes, think of this, was notified that ESQUIRE is sending a reporter to interview me at the Congress time for an article for Esquire - be in fine company maybe, sure hope they have an excellent issue that month. Don’t you
- or did you ever look at Esquire?
Yes - think Tom is writing a whole book on the Philosophy of the work. Have you seen the thumbnail sketch the publishers did on the Phi… well some person out west ordered from them enough of them to send each soldier a copy, and is delivering them.
Oh yes - know the Supt. of the Beach school, also the High and Co. school, can almost assure you a job if you wanted anything there.
All OK - put you on the list as a resident at once - do you wish right at Beach or nearer the High School - but we will talk that over when here.
Am sure all is well - will do a fine job and then come through with flying colors.
Think you will really get a kick out of some of the Egyptian data - and if [1387] does with it what I think she will and can, will be some story. Some of the characters - are lovely even today - don’t mean myself, either, for am learning to think less and less of the part I played - just hope do not make the same mistake again.
No - just work until can’t and then quit.
As am going to do right now - hope to be seeing you soon. Remember me to you mother.
With love [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear “eddie”:
Guess it’s about time I wrote to you. Was down with the flu two weeks ago and felt terrible all last week but seem to be going strong now. Of course mother got it then too so we have had a mess.
Hope all of you have kept well. Hear you did run off to stay with Tom for awhile.
Now my whole future is at stake and I just have to have your help to decide what to do. CAN YOU POSSIBLY GET the question in???
I have an offer to go with the Goodyear rubber company. Then too the war Research Dept. is just about to offer me a job. I am to have another interview Mon. Feb. 21. I don’t know now whether I should leave here or quit teaching. I am so in the dark as to what is best. If I were younger I would take a chance but don’t feel at my age I should take too many chances. Then too would I make more development if I stayed here? I just don’t know. Of course only you could tell me that. The other would be research work. Seems to me it would be just as important work but would I be running away? I don’t think so now. My first reading said I should stay two or three years longer but said no more. Is there something I should do now. Actually I would do whatever was the right thing to do if I can find out what that is. So you see I do NEED help badly and at once.
Guess I will include questions in with this so that you will have them if anything comes up that you could get them in. The only day that is out is Feb. 21. That is the day I have my final interview with the war research man.
You could wire me collect. I would wire any answer needed.
Now I like the reading excerpts. I have intended writing and telling you. Also I will send in my dues soon now. Income tax and insurance all come in March so that is bad. At least most of the tax is paid.
Have seen little of [1387] lately. Have not been in to school as I have quit on the dissertation. Then with the flu I have not been able to get there. Have vacation the week after this one. Why didn’t you come here for your vacation? Tell Mrs. Cayce and Sally I will write soon.
Much love, [2487]
[Enclosed questions]
- Would I gain spiritually, mentally or materially if I changed positions now?
- If I am to change positions, should I accept the war research position or the Goodyear offer or is there other work I am to do?
- Should I resign if I am not granted a leave of absence in order to take the Columbia Uni. War Research position?
- Is there any other advice as to my future work that can be given at this time? [2487]
R11. 2/17/44 EC’s letter to [2487]:
…, N.J.
Dear [2487]:-
Thanks for yours of the twelfth - I just got home Sunday. Had a fine trip! I only had to attend two parties and didn’t get drunk! The strongest thing that we had was old-fashions, but I didn’t drink any.
I met some lovely people, though, and I had a very lovely ride out on the bay - the loveliest I’ve ever had. There was a friend who drove me from Clearwater to Deland, and didn’t know who he was until I got there - one of the wealthiest men in Florida, but he was very nice to me.
About this reading - it will be the afternoon of February 26 from 3:30 to 4:30 EWT. Will that be all right? Be sure to let me have the questions and let me know where you will be at the hour.
There’s nothing especially new; everyone here has bad colds including Tommy - and was he glad to see me!
Let me hear about this right away.
With love, [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear “eddie”:
It was good to hear from you and also to know that you had a good rest and a good time.
As I said we have vacation this week. I went to Tarrytown but something told me I better get back that I needed to answer a letter from you. Do you spose I was just wishing or could I be getting psychic?
Now as to the reading the time is very satisfactory and I will be here in … at that time.
I must tell you though that I have stalled off both of these offers temporarily anyway. I am not sure now that they will ask me to do war research but there seems to be some possibility still. They don’t seem to be able to find women with mathematics and physics training. Actually this was research in radar I think. Of course I am told very little. I do have an offer from Goodyear and I got them to agree to let me come July 1, so I could finish out the year here. Maybe I cut my nose off but I did not know what to do.
Now I won’t worry for you will tell me. Or will you???
I am including a question about the dissertation. I hope that you can get it in. I will of course feel that unless something very unexpected comes up I will of course give up the time next summer as someone will need it more than I. I had planned to have a reading on my Atlantis period then. C/ That can be put off of course.
Must go out and mail this. You will wonder why you have not heard from me.
I’ll write again soon. Loads of thanks.
Lots of love, [2487]
[GD’s note: Appointment on Feb. 26th had to be cancelled due to EC’s illness. He made another appointment for March 26th.]
[Enclosed questions]
- Would I gain spiritually, mentally or materially if I changed positions now?
- If I am to change please give full directions as to how I should proceed?
- Should I accept the Goodyear offer or will I be asked to do war research work or is there other work which I am to do?
- Please advise me what to do about my dissertation? Should I drop the problem I am working upon and look for another topic or can you tell me what to do about this one?
- Is there any other advice as to my work that can be given at this time?
R13. 3/20/44 (Monday) [2487]‘s letter to EC:
Dear “eddie”:
The more I think of it the more I am sure you should REST Sun. 26th. I know you want to get caught up on readings called off because of your illness but won’t you write and tell me you will SLEEP instead of giving a reading that day? I will feel guilty if you use your strength for me when I know you should rest. I am quite willing to wait till later. C/
