At the home Time of Reading of her 3:50 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Daylight Saving Time. parents, about 3 mi. …, Tenn.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes.

3. As we find, there have been some changes in the physical forces of this body. These appear as good days and bad days; better use of some portions of the body and limbs, and then a greater inability to control same.

4. In the present we would entirely change the applications; that is, we would continue all the rubs and the other suggestions made, but we would add these:

5. About twice each week, until ten have been taken, we would have the thorough osteopathic adjustments; with special reference to the conditions which exist in the upper dorsal and cervical area, and in the lumbar and sacrals.

6. Also, at the same time these treatments are given, we would use the Violet Ray (hand machine, bulb applicator), for a few minutes over those areas along the WHOLE of the cerebrospinal system, and especially across those areas of the shoulder and neck, and across the sacral and lumbar. These would be given AS the osteopathic adjustments are made, see?

7. Doing these, and continuing all the treatments previously suggested, we find that these now should be most helpful for the body.

9. (Q) Is it this same trouble that causes her eyes to be in a bad condition? (A) This is a reflex condition. Thus the needs in the present for making the corrections osteopathically in those areas that direct the impulse of circulation and of nerve energies through the general spinal system to these portions of the body.

10. (Q) Would you suggest something to give her a better appetite? (A) It will be better when there is better coordination established, so that there is better assimilation of what is taken.

11. (Q) Is there any improvement? (A) There are changes. At times there appears to be improvement, and then there is more of a contraction in other portions of the body. Thus the needs for those osteopathic adjustments.

R1. 9/8/41 Mother’s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Received your report of the reading and also your letter of the 3rd. You asked how my daughter responded to the suggestions. She was a little blue about beginning the massages all over again but is willing to try it, if we can get the osteopath, and I have been to see him, will send his name and address if he consents to give the treatments. He is coming this week to give an examination and if he thinks it worthwhile will give them. Now the way I understand this Dr. he just wants to take the case in his hands if he sees fit, now what am I to do.

I am going to begin the new 10 weeks tonight (I have let her rest about a week and visit her sister). She has wanted to try treatments from an osteopath and was glad you suggested it.

R2. 10/5/41 Mother’s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce

Sir. Just thought I’d write and inform you that we have taken seven of the osteopathic treatments that you suggested. The Dr. has been very nice. We go twice a week as you said he first gives some kind of electrical treatment then the osteopathic treatment then the ultra violet ray. She seems to be doing fairly well but as to real improvement I can hardly say, but I can say that she perspired while taking her treatment, one thing she hasn’t done for years.

Did I send you the Dr’s name and address which is Dr. Herber Hixon [D.O.], …, Tennessee. Let us hear from you at times.

R3. 12/20/41 Mother’s letter: “I have finished the treatments you prescribed, both the osteopathic treatments and the 20 wks. treatment. I have let her rest a few weeks, she was so tired, so thot I’d write you to know what you thot after it was finished. After she began treatments we thot she got some better, in fact she was better than she had been at times, but for some time now she has been worse - can’t walk as well and can’t feed herself as well and can’t feel with her right hand scarcely any. She seems to have lost hope and I think that makes it worse on her. So if you think another ck. up advisable you can set the date sometime after Xmas about 2 wks. from now, or in the neighborhood of 2 wks. and would appreciate it, to know your opinion.”

R4. 1/2/42 “She will be in her room as before. She has been some worse for the last several weeks and seems disheartened. When I first began with Dr. Hicks he didn’t give me any encouragement scarcely, but we tried the 10 treatments as you requested but there wasn’t any improvement that we could see. It is impossible to have him make out any questions as he lives quite a distance, and it will be impossible for her to take any more of his treatments - it is so far and she not able to make the trips.”

1. Do you find any improvement since the 1st and 2nd ck. up?
2. Can she ever be able to use her right hand to eat and write with?
3. Is there any remedy for her constipation, more than you have already mentioned?
4. As the Sal Hepatica failed to have the desired effect, can you suggest something else?
5. Please make suggestions about food. Do canned blackberries go against her?
6. Is there any hope of her ever being very much better, after this ck. up?
