This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of April, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2514], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:20 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Tenn.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with further suggestions for corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2514].
-
As we find, improvements are continuing with this body.
-
That needed in the present, we find, is a continuation of those things which have been suggested; as to the Light, as to the Appliance, as to the general conditions in diet and applications. The only change we would make in the present would be:
-
Do make the appointment - and keep it - and have, at least every ten days, a thorough relaxation osteopathically administered. But drive to Hopkinsville, Kentucky for same. For, the osteopath there is not only acquainted with this peculiar type of disturbance but with the manner in which there may be the better aid in getting distributions from the ganglia, AND the centers that control the lower limbs and the feet for better activity.
-
These may be a little hardship for the first two or three such treatments, but have at least fifteen such treatments; continuing with all else that has been suggested in its regular order.
-
And these as we find, if carried on, should soon enable the body to begin more of a normal activity.
-
When giving the treatments to the lower portion of the limbs, do not bruise - as under knee, in the heel and in the bursa in the frontal as well as back portion of feet; but do stimulate the solar plexus center in the area about the 4th lumbar, and through the areas of the end of the spine.
-
And we will find these will assist the body, now, in gaining the use of itself AND its activities much better.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should time on light be increased? (A) We would not increase the time on light very much - a half a minute may be added every other time. But don’t overdo it.
-
(Q) What can I put on my feet to keep the red places from itching so badly? (A) This will be corrected as we use the corrections indicated. Use just plain Mutton Tallow, or combine an equal quantity of Mutton Tallow (melted) and Camphorated Oil. Let it solidify and then use it as a rub to such places.
But do have the osteopathic corrections and we will find this will change the circulation. These conditions are hindered at times through the pressures in the knees, as well as in the ends of the tendons in the calf of the leg, as well as in the bursa of the feet, and especially the centers in the lumbar and sacral area.
These are improvements. Do keep them up.
It will be worth all the trouble.
-
(Q) I should continue the beef juice, grape juice, Acigest, Calcios? (A) Continue them, but skip a week - now. Every other week take the Acigest and Calcios, though we would continue the grape juice regularly. The Calcios and Acigest we would skip a week, and then take again - as has been indicated.
-
We are through with this Reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/13/43 Letter from [2514] to EC: “I certainly do hate it because I’ve waited so long to write you. Seems like letter writing is the one thing I can’t get done. However, I do want to write you and let you know how I’m getting along.
“According to the paper I received last week you certainly must have had a wonderful Congress this year. I certainly did wish I could have been there too but just couldn’t make it.
“When you hear where I’ve been you’ll know how much better I feel. The first of last month I paid a visit to my husband’s home. Mother and Daddy were nice enough to let us use their car, and the Ration Board gave us some extra gas. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip both ways. I stayed on the bed most of the time while there because I had a sore knee at the time, but they all came in, sat around and talked to me, so I really had a nice visit. Four months ago I wouldn’t have dared make a long time trip like that so you see I certainly must be better.
“I hear you and Mrs. Cayce have both been sick. I certainly hope you are well now.
“Well, I have had eight osteopathic treatments from Dr. Beard. I really believe she has helped me. At first she really acted like she’d rather not treat me. My ‘desire to get well’ was so great that I just kept on going. Now she says my back has loosened some. I can walk better now and believe she is the cause of that. The board gave me extra gas to go over every week. The people on the Board certainly have been lovely to me. They gave me gas to go to Mississippi on too, so you see I really have some lovely friends there. Going back to Dr. Beard, I go over every Tues. or Thurs. and take a treatment. She is far from encouraging but I’m so determined that I keep right on going.
“I would like to have a ck. rdg. if you have time to give me one. I’m sure you are terribly busy from the things I’ve heard about your work. Last time I was so surprised when I got my rdg. I had no idea that you had made it. When I got the rdg. I thought it was a letter setting the time. What a pleasant surprise.
“I have been feeling so much better lately. Of course, the bad days still come but the good ones are such a joy that I can stand the others. My knees are healing up grand. They are still awfully stiff and keep me from standing up straight, but those horrible pains and soreness are gone. God has been so very good to me. I’ve had to be by myself most of the time lately because help has been so bad at the store that Mother has to work nearly all the time. He has given me the strength to do most of the necessary things for my baby and myself. Several days there has been no one here to prepare meals, so I’ve managed to scrape up something. Having to stand up gets me, so I try to do everything sitting that I possibly can. I even can go out now and make a pie for lunch. They are good too!
“The past 4 wks. have certainly been trying ones. Little […] has had an awful case of whooping cough. We haven’t had a whole night’s sleep in 3 wks. Poor little fellow has certainly been sick. Dr. Webster gave him 2 shots and 2 bottles of red pills but we can’t see that they helped him. It took him 3 days to get over the shots alone. Surely he’ll begin to get better now. As soon as he gets well and gets to feeling better, we are planning on having his tonsils taken out. The doctor says we’ll see a different child then.
“I certainly do wish I could lose some weight. I try to cut down on eating but I nearly starve to death when I do. When I look at pictures taken 3 yrs. ago I just can hardly believe it!
“I don’t have any questions to ask. I just want to know how I’m getting along, if I should do anything else, etc. Please let me hear from you as soon as possible.”
R2. 8/14/43 Letter from Martha D. Beard, Osteopathic Physician, 1606 South Virginia Ave., Hopkinsville, Ky. to EC: “I am writing you in regard to Mrs. [2514] of …, Tenn. She will be here, next Tues. for the last of her 15 treatments - I don’t think I’ve accomplished much, for there is so little of her body that I can treat - on account of the terrible places on hip & limbs & feet. All I’ve been able to do is to work along the spine & rotate her hips to certain extent. Under the knees where she needs treatment to supple them - is a solid sore - I really hesitated to take her, for my own sake. If her case is similar to [528]‘s it’s much more advanced, for [528] had none of those terrible looking places that Mrs. [2514] has on her body. If I could have gotten her in an earlier stage say a yr. or 2 ago - I feel that I could have done very much more for her.
“I have followed your rdg. as nearly as possible, under the circumstances - and have been careful not to say anything to mar her confidence in your treatments. She is expecting a ck. rdg. soon - hope you can suggest her getting treatment there in … - if you think she should continue Osteopathic
- The trips over here are hard on her, as well as expensive. She’s a lovely girl - and I want her to do what’s best for her - with best wishes.”
R3. 8/20/43 Letter from EC to Dr. Martha D. Beard: “Thank you very much for yours of the 14th. We have a ck. rdg. coming up for Mrs. [2514], just as she has told you, and I am in hopes that we may be able to be of some help. I suppose you realize that [528]‘s case is the first that is on record of ever having been cured and you had quite a part in that. While I do not want to burden you with becoming an authority on scleroderma, but I am sure that Mrs. [2514] has told you that she is so much better than she has been that it seems to us quite remarkable, as I know it does to the hospital who is following the case quite closely, but I thank you and I am in hopes that whatever may be the outcome that the correct things may be given for Mrs. [2514].
“Thanking you again and again for your help and cooperation and with every good wish, I am…”
