This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of August, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2514], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.)]
Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:10 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Tenn.
-
GC: You will give the physical conditions of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions as I ask them:
-
EC: Now as we find, conditions tend to show considerable improvement; though there is much to be desired as yet.
-
We would continue to use the low Wet Cell Appliance. Keep these charged regularly.
-
On those irritated places, as on the knee and on the hips, we would continue to use the Ichthyol Ointment.
-
Also we would take, now, the electrical driven vibrator. While the osteopathic manipulation has been very good, this should now be more to keep the circulation coordinating. Thus we find that the electrical vibrator may bring even better results, since certain adjustments have been made, for the body to keep in better accord with unfoldings to near normal life.
-
The rest of those things indicated we would keep up; that is, the good eliminations, and the general conditions, through the body. If these are maintained we should continue, slowly but surely the betterment through the physical forces of the body.
-
Give the vibrator each evening when the body is ready for bed; and the general preparations for same should make for expectancy on the part of the body itself.
-
Not too much activity outside.
-
Keep as much in the shade as practical. But do use those suggestions indicated here; knowing that as you help others, the better understanding you have yourself.
-
Give the Appliance (the vibrator) for about twenty or twenty-five minutes each period - just along the spine.
-
The osteopathic treatments may be taken occasionally, but we would take these now closer home, provided these treatments coordinate with the low electrical vibrator treatments.
-
Ready for questions.
-
Do that, and we should keep better conditions for this body.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/31/43, [2514]‘s letter to EC: “I fully intended to write you again before you made my rdg. but I just didn’t get it done. The past 3 wks. have certainly been hard on me. My mother went to North Carolina to see my brother leaving me by myself with all the work to do. So you see I’ve certainly had my hands full. Whenever I’d sit down to rest I knew I should write but I was too tired to even think straight. Therefore I didn’t get my letter written so hope you’ll forgive me.
“I’m writing you to ask you some questions about my rdg. I’ve called all the drug stores, etc. but no one seems to have a vibrator. Is there any special kind I should have or do you just ask for an electric vibrator? […] said he imagined, if necessary, we could get a doctor to write an order for one. Will that be necessary? You said in the rdg.: ‘Give the vibrator each evening when the body is ready for bed; and the general preparations for same should make for expectancy on the part of the body itself?’ Please explain this last part to me. Should vibrator be used before massage or after?
“Then explain please the next sentence: ‘not too much activity outside.’
“Is it absolutely necessary that I take the osteopathic treatments? Dr. Winn [James A. Winn, D.O.] refused to treat Mrs. [2526], so I’m afraid he’ll refuse me too. If it’s necessary then I’ll have to see what he says.
“You didn’t say anything about the light. Should the time be increased just a little bit? Seems like the time is so little.
“My knees are healing up real nice now. […] can rub behind them in some places. That’s a great improvement because it used to nearly kill me when they put the oil behind my knees with a piece of cotton.
“I ran out of peanut oil some time ago so have been using some olive oil we had left over. Now that is just about gone so guess I’ll have to get some gas from some where so I can get to Nashville. All this rationing, etc. sure does hurt me in more ways than one.
“Mr. Cayce, I’ve been wondering about making my next appt. now. What do you think about it. Say make it 8 wks. from now. Wouldn’t that be wise? Then I wouldn’t lose so much time.
“I hope you can explain my rdg. a little more. I certainly will be glad to get to using the vibrator for I feel sure as everything else has helped so much, this too will help.
“I’m so awfully happy because I’m feeling so much better. I can hardly wait to make a home for my 2 boys. […] has been so kind and good to me that I must in some small way pay him back. I’m so afraid the Army will get him but am praying against it.”
R2. 9/9/43 EC’s letter to [2514]: “We were very glad to have yours of the 31st. I suspect you have been having quite a time if you had been left all on your own. I wish we had the opportunity to get another rdg. for you right now, but the first possible time is going to be Sunday afternoon, October 24. This one is on us and you make up a list of questions that you would like to have asked at that time. I wish I knew exactly what to tell you about the osteopath. I am sure it is pretty hard on you to make the trip from Hopkinsville.
“If those places on your body have cleared enough so that you could use the vibrator, even the sponge applicator, this I am sure will help. Then, any other trouble that may come up, be sure and write us. Any kind of vibrator that you may get hold of, you usually see them at a barber shop or beauty shop. You will find one somewhere, I am sure, though, they are hard to find. Not too much activity outside indicates that you should be out in the open, but do not exercise too much outside.
“I wouldn’t increase the time of the light. You can get too much of this. Never let it be over three minutes and then be sure to get a good work-out after you have used the light.
“As I said, I have made the appointment for the check-up, but our regular appointments are far in the latter part of July, and I hope you will have been to the Beach to see us long before that time because I am expecting you to come to the Congress next year and plan to have one of your rdgs. while you are here.”
R3. 10/9/43 [2514]‘s letter to EC: “This is just a note asking a favor of you. I’m going to write you this week and send you my questions. It is so good of you to want to give me a rdg. and on a Sunday too. Thank you a million times.
“To-morrow is our sixth wedding anniversary. The whole time I’ve been sick, and lacked by far being the wife and mother I wanted to be. I’m just living for the day when I can get about and do good to others. To-day we received a present but not a very nice one. […] received his card from the draft board reopening his case. Even though we’ve been expecting it, it was such a blow. […], of course, is going to appeal to the board. His uncle is head of the board, but of course, he can’t even vote on […]‘s case. He has suggested that we get all evidence together including a letter from you stating that I have been taking treatments at your suggestion. I just wonder if you’d write me such a letter and send it by return mail. I’ll enclose an air-mail stamp.
“Please pray for me so I’ll be brave and strong enough to bear what I have to go through. Sometimes I feel like I just can’t stand it, but guess it’s just another cross to bear.
“Please put in an extra slip of paper stating what time on Sunday afternoon you will make my reading.”
R4. 10/12/43 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: “This is to certify that Mrs. [2514] of …, Tennessee, has been quite ill with scleroderma, and has been unable to take care of herself. While we believe she is somewhat better, it would be impractical for her to take care of herself at this time. Any favor or help that may be given will be appreciated. ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INC.”
R5. 10/12/43 EC’s letter to Mrs. [2514]: “Thank you for yours of the 9th. I hope that we may be the means of being of a help. I know what it would mean to you at this time, yet, I am exactly in the same boat myself. My son, Hugh Lynn, who has been the manager of the Assoc., and who seemingly to us might have been spared, owing to his age, and how badly he was needed here, not only in this work, but for what he had done, but he is already overseas. I hope you will get some real consideration, and I feel sure you will, if when Mr. […] makes his report to the Board, he states the situation.
“How are you feeling in every other way, Mrs. [2514]? Hope you are getting along fine. I know just how being so anxious can upset and disturb you.
“The appt. is for Sunday afternoon, of Oct. 24, 3:30 to 4:30 EWT., the same as our regular time. Be sure to let us have any special questions right at this time.
“You may be very sure I will remember you as I have for a long while when I pray.”
R6. 10/19/43 [2514]‘s letter to EC: “I hope I haven’t waited too long to write this letter, but I’ve been so upset lately that I just couldn’t get my mind to settle down to writing anyone. To-day is the draft board meeting, so guess it won’t be long now before we’ll know their decision. I feel sure they’ll decide what is best for all of us. I certainly do thank you for your nice letter.
“I read the article about you in Sunday’s paper. I didn’t exactly like it, but guess that is just my opinion.
“I really had an experience last Thurs. I was examined by a medical Dr. for the first time in nearly three yrs. We felt like maybe if a Dr. saw me and wrote a letter to the board that it might help. I had Dr. Webster, a fairly new man in town and the Dr. we have been taking the baby to. He was so nice to me. He is rushed to death but gave up some of his precious time to even come out here to see me. He listened to my chest, heart, took my blood pressure, etc., and said I was all right. He wrote a real nice letter to the board, and we sent it in with our appeal to the board. He wrote a prescription for some vitamin & liver capsules, but as yet I haven’t had it filled. I am waiting to find out what you say about them.
“I certainly did have a streak of luck about my vibrator. Out of the clear sky one of the stores here produced 2 brand new ones. A cousin of mine happened to see them and told them I was looking for one. I have been using the wooden applicator. Is that right?
“Do you happen to know where I could find some zinc? I am almost out. We almost had to STEAL the last we got. I have just a little left and doubt if I can get anymore. I just don’t know what I’d do without […] to tend to such things for me. He does practically everything for me now, for Mother is in such bad health that by the time she gets through at the store she’s almost worn out.
“I don’t have many questions. Here are a few things I’d like to have answered.
(1) What should I do about taking these vitamins. He said they also contained some liver. He said lots of doctors treat my disease with these things. (2) What causes these spells of fever that I have ever so often along my legs? They seem to follow a muscle or nerve. (3) What cause this feeling of a knot in my right side under my ribs? (4) Should light gradually be increased in the coming months? As it will be quite sometime before I can get another rdg. I wondered about his. (5) Would it hurt me to go on a small diet to try and lose some of this excess weight? (6) Should machine be continued through this next year?
“I will be at home Sunday afternoon and will look forward to getting the rdg. Gratefully…”
