[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, J. Fitch, Stenos.]
Time of Reading Set bet. 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Tenn.

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here; [2514]. This we have had before.
-
As we find, there is great improvement in the general conditions of this body; though, to be sure, the body becomes impatient to be more and more normal in the general activities, but do not grow weary in welldoing.
-
That there has been a general or great increase in the weight of the body is not too well, but if we would begin with these by the month, we may reduce the weight without injury to the recuperating forces being set up in the body. Do begin and take for a month, and leave it off for some several weeks and again try, 1/2 hour before each meal and before retiring, 3 oz. of grape juice with 1 oz. of plain water; and do not eat sweets, but more of fresh vegetables cooked and raw, and not too much of any kind of bread, though whole grain cereals may be taken and used as a supplement for bread.
-
The rest of the treatments, as the massage, keep up; with the olive oil and peanut oil, and if the combination without the Lanolin causes irritation, use only the peanut oil, but occasionally use the combination.
-
Do keep the treatments with the light as well as those with the low Wet Cell Appliance.
-
With the taking of grape juice, do take these stipulated exercises as the body is able to handle itself. While the knees and heels still cause a great deal of trouble, do massage the bursae of the feet with the oil, also turn the light on them or draw the feet up under the light.
-
The exercise: With the body lying on the floor or the bed, take the exercise as of riding the bicycle with the feet in the air. This works the limbs and may be slow at times, but gradually raise the body from the floor on to the shoulders by getting the feet much higher than the head, see? These will change the circulation. Also do these in the morning or evening, but have a regular time, and if this is taken in the morning, then take this in the evening: stand erect, gradually rise on the toes. As the body rises on the toes, gradually raise the hands above the head, bend forward on toes. You can do very little of this at first but this will not only aid the circulation, it will aid in bringing the weight to nearer normal.

We are through with this reading.
(Regarding memberships: You are always considered a member, unless you advise us that you do not care to be. However, unless a yearly fee is paid you are not on the current mailing list. If you are an Associate Member you pay 20 a year, which entitles you to one reading of whichever type you prefer, and the monthly Bulletin of the Ass'n is sent to you. If you are an Active Member you pay 25 a year (and 10 for one reading of whichever type you prefer, though you are not obligated to have a reading, of course), which entitles you to receive all research papers printed by the Ass'n, in fact all our literature, including the monthly Bulletin and the Weekly Letter of Extracts. In either case, regardless of which type member you are, the subsequent Check Physical Readings are 10. I hope I have made this clear. [Sent forms reg. memberships, subscriptions, etc., 10/7/44.] GD.)

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/1/44 Letter from [2514] to EC: “I’m awfully sorry I haven’t written you sooner but seems I can’t keep track of time at all. I haven’t been feeling so good for several weeks, so letter writing has been quite a chore to me.
“I’m sending you the Associate Membership Card that was sent to me some time ago. According to the card my membership is good this next year. However, I was sent a letter not so long ago asking for my dues this month. If they are due I shall send you a ck. for
25. Correct? This amount will make me an Associate member until October, 1945. Correct? I want to stay a member, of course, but our25 aren’t too plentiful you know, so want to know which is correct.“Hope you are very well and all your family are well also.”
R2. 10/7/44 Form letter:
Due to Mr. Cayce’s continued illness we are unable to get your reading on -------------. In consideration for his health, Mr. Cayce will not return to work for some months. For this reason we are unable to offer you another appointment at this time. If you still wish to have a reading, let us hear from you in six to eight months, at which time your request will be given its proper consideration, in light of your previous contact with us.
In view of the above, we are returning your membership fee in the amount of ---------. If you again apply for a reading, do not send the membership fee until three weeks before your appointment date.
It is our hope that you will keep in touch with us through subscribing to our Monthly Bulletin, which carries news of the Association activities and extracts from readings, or our Weekly Letter, which consists solely of extracts from the readings. We will send you either of these for six dollars a year or both for twelve dollars a year.
Financial aid through gifts, whether small or large, constitutes a fund which makes it possible for us to carry on the research work, so that we may develop our publications in order to help all who are not fortunate enough to have their individual reading.
Appreciating your interest and hoping that we may soon hear from you in regard to some phase of our Publications and Research Program, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis ASS’N FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INC.
R3. 10/7/44 Letter from GD to Miss [2514]: “Mr. Cayce is still away taking a rest. Mrs. Cayce is with him. He is very steadily improving, but it seems awfully slow. We do not know when he will be able to resume appointments for readings.
“I don’t wonder that you are confused about the membership
- we have been confused too. Recently we have decided to discontinue the Associate Membership renewals except where individuals are able to get appointments for readings - in which case the membership fee would be $20 and include only the reading, no publications of any kind, and not be accepted until three weeks prior to the appointment date.
“Everyone who has had a reading stays a Member, but pays the Associate Membership fee before getting the reading. Probably this confuses you more than ever. I’m enclosing some form letters presenting the various other activities in which you might be interested. Sincerely, good wishes - GD.
R4. 12/27/50 Report on EC’s readings extracted by GD from Sherwood Eddy’s new book, YOU WILL SURVIVE AFTER DEATH (page 98):
No. 5, Hopkinsville, Kentucky: (1) Have handled his cases several years. (2) Diagnosis correct in most cases. (3) Compares very favorably with other doctors. (4) I have had improvement in all his cases. (5) There is something unique about it all.

Dearest [340]:-
First, I must tell you that my beloved Al [her husband] died on June 27th. You can understand how bereft I feel at times, but I have a lot of help - from this side and the other including his, I’m sure.
Second (as I told someone, AGAIN my work is my salvation) I am writing especially to see if you can find out anything about a woman who had a reading, in …, Tenn., whom you and Miss [243] visited, I think. I refer to Mrs. [2514], then only 22 yrs. old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. […] also of … She had one baby son, […]. I give you all these details I have, just in case any of these names can be located to check on what happened to her. She had been a patient at Vanderbilt, with scleroderma; had heard about the readings through [528]‘s case.
At the time of Edgar Cayce’s death she had an appointment for a check reading. She had improved considerably. We do not know whether she continued to follow the treatment which had been given her in several readings, or whether she gave up. In either case, we’d like to know - also if she died, and when, and in what condition. We did not hear from her at all after October 1944.
The reason we especially need this information is that Dr. William A. McGarey is here doing research again on the readings, and he is especially interested in getting all the reports he can on the 3-4 people who had readings for scleroderma.
I do hope you can find out something. Is …, Tenn. close to you, and can you locate anyone by phone, City Directory, or what not? It would be wonderful if you can.
Thanks a million, [340]. Please pray for Al and me. You can so well understand how it is with me right now.
Love, [signed] Gladys
