GC: You will have before you the entity, [2524] in his apartment at the …, New York City, who seeks information, advice and guidance that will enable him to better understand all phases of his life and his associations, so that he may make more practical application of the information which has been given him through this channel. You will answer the questions he submits, as I ask them:
-
EC: - He has the information - he’d better commence to make application, rather than be sorry!
-
(It’s best to keep quiet than even to try to read.)
-
We have the enquiring mind, [2524].
-
As has oft been indicated for this entity in information concerning what it has done with its abilities and in regard to the conditions existent in the body at present.
-
There must first be peace within self before there can be found even congeniality with its associates. Few there be, to be sure, who can continue to put on a front or attempt to present a personality that is so at variance to the individuality as to be just “putting on” all that while. You fool no one but yourself and make yourself miserable. For what you are, by your relationships to others, speaks much louder than what you say to individuals.
-
Then the beginning - for the physical help as well as for the interpretations of self - is to begin with thy ideals. Set it down in black and white. Take yourself in hand and draw a picture. You’re a pretty good engineer to draw pictures of other things. Did you ever try a picture of yourself? How far do you span from what you would be, or from what you would have others to think you are? How far does this stretch?
-
This should be begun, then, with the spirituality. What is thy ideal, spiritually? Who do you hope to see, where do you hope to go, when you leave here? remember, He that gave the world compared man’s life to a tree, in that where it falls that is where it stands. The life goes on, only the body remains. It returns to that which it has builded itself. Just as the rich man and Lazarus. Because of his patience, fortitude and brotherly live, Lazarus went to the bosom of faith, or in faith. Yet it was not apart from torment, though divided so very distinctly as to make a barrier that could never be crossed - in that realm of consciousness.
-
What is thy ideal mentally? Know that in the material plane, mind is the builder. Are thy ideals and thy conversations with thy associates consistent? They should be. For as the Master gave, “Consistency, thou art a jewel.”
-
These, then, are the beginnings in the finding of self. And in the finding of self you will come closer to accomplishing that which may bring material as well as mental satisfaction in thy activities in the earth.
-
Do that, then, and you will come to know thyself better, and thy relationships with others will be more satisfactory, and there will no longer be the discontent within self or with self. For if ye will have people interested in thee, interest thyself in people - and not by force. Ye like associations, ye like such activities. Why not practice it in thy life?
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Regarding health: What is the state of my health and what measures should I take to improve it? (A) Take a good deal of the suggestions that have been given. Clear the body as you do the mind of those things that have been hindered. The things that hinder physically are the poor eliminations. Set up better eliminations in the body. This is why osteopathy and hydrotherapy come nearer to being the basis of all needed treatments for physical disabilities.
-
(Q) What should I do for the lump that forms at base of right ear each morning? (A) Take the hydrotherapy treatments down at Reilly’s and you’ll get rid of all of it! Change your mind and it won’t come back! Keep on thinking and worrying - it’ll come back double.
-
(Q) Are teeth in good order? (A) These are very good - they need some local attention. Use Ipsab occasionally with the dentifrice used - you’ll find it will be most helpful to the gums and in relieving those tensions in the throat. Massage this on the gums with the finger.
-
(Q) Regarding work: What should I do to overcome a sense of confusion and unrest? (A) Just as indicated. The confusion is within self, because of the presenting of one thing that you know and another that you would like for other people to think you know.
-
(Q) Should I continue to work with the company I am now associated with or should I set up my own separate organiza- tion? If so, please advise. (A) Stay through this particular period of anxiety in those activities in this land. After another year ye may change for yourself. You’ll be big enough then for it. You may have found yourself, if you set yourself to do it. For remember, as He has given, “I stand at the door and knock. If you open I’ll come in.” And He doesn’t come in to be a drudge, He comes in to help. He doesn’t come in to be kept, He comes in to work with you, and to depart when you fail to do so.
-
(Q) Regarding home: Would [L…] and I be suitable life companions? (A) That you had best develop in your own self. Are thy ideals one? Can they conform? Are ye a complement one to another, or will one lean upon the other, and the other draw upon the other? Determine these in thine own self. Yes, ye have been associated together before. Read of thy activities in other lands and you’ll see her standing at the door.
-
(Q) In planning ahead, should I remain in my present home or would a change sometime this year be desirable? (A) If there is to be a change, it should come in the month of October or November. We don’t see a change very soon, or not best for a change very soon.
-
(Q) Regarding my brother [2564] (who passed from the earth life about eighteen months ago), is it indicated that he is happy? (A) As was his purpose, so is the activity. As indicated through the experience given thee in His word, pray for and with him if ye would help.

We are through.

R1. 5/18/49 HLC’s ltr. to Mr. [2524] and Mrs. […]:
Mr. [2524] and Mrs. […] New York, N.Y.
Dear Mr. [2524] and Mrs. […]
May I tell you how much I appreciate your gracious reception of my explanation of the Foundation program? It was kind of you to give me time and attention.
In no instance do I want anyone to feel that the Edgar Cayce work is being pressed upon them. Each individual must be moved by a concern from within and an insight into the tremendous possibilities for service through the preservation and publication of these records. I know from you life reading, Mr. [2524], that there is a deep, underlying spiritual nature which makes you naturally concerned with endeavors of this character. I fully appreciate also the demands which must be made upon your time and means.
We shall greatly appreciate any financial assistance which you can render at this time, and I hope that you will permit me to keep you informed of the progress of our work.
Mrs. […] as I begin work with some of the individuals on our Initial Gifts list, I will call you, as you suggested.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce
R2. 4/4/65 Newspaper article from The Virginian-Pilot:
DOCTORS COME IN 2 MODELS By Joseph G. Molnar, M.D.
Dear Dr. Molnar: Please explain the difference between M.D.s and D.O.s. My brother and I are having quite an argument and hope you can settle it. - P. B.
Together, the two groups - doctors of medicine and doctors of osteopathy - constitute the sum total of physicians qualified to give general health care.
Aside from them, there are others who profess themselves to be “doctors” but have not had adequate training. One such group, for example is not permitted to give medicine or to perform surgery. Obviously this limits their capability. There are still other groups which set themselves up to try to treat everything solely with diets, exercise and such.
Good diet, of course, is beneficial to all of us, and so is an appropriate amount of exercise, but you can’t treat pneumonia with them, or remove a clogged gall bladder, or relieve other such serious conditions.
And there’s one more general grouping: people who have had excellent training, but only for a certain task. Podiatrists (for foot trouble), dentists and dental surgeons, optometrists (for measuring refractive errors in the eyes, and related matters), physiotherapists who do a great deal of good for people but work in conjunction with physicians. But these people stick to their fields of special training.
For general, comprehensive medical and surgical care, there are only the two main classifications: M.D.s and D.O.s.
When osteopathy began, it was a cult, based on the belief that adjustments of the skeletal bones (mostly the spine) could be the answer to all illnesses. That was back in the preceding century.
As of today, however, osteopathic schools have entrance requirements and provide comprehensive teaching comparable to that of the Medical schools. Graduates, like M.D.s, have at least a year of service as interns after that before they become fully licensed physicians.
There are some differences, but not in fundamental health science.
There aren’t nearly as many osteopathic schools, and not as many osteopaths. There are some states which have few if any osteopaths, other states which have many.
In California, for example, there has been a joining of forces to the extent that no distinction is made between the two. In other states, however, the osteopaths are reluctant to give up their separate identity and “don’t want to be swallowed up by the M.D.s.” There are various reasons for this, which I won’t try to discuss here. Part of it may be some leftover resentment from the days when the M.D.s viewed osteopaths scornfully.
But today the degree of “D.O.” is a guarantee that the doctor has had rigid training and passes searching examinations just as the M.D. has.
I might add that half a century ago, there was a bitter conflict between the “allopaths” and the “homeopaths,” two branches of the M.D.’s, based on opposing theories as to the use of medicine. It was for some years, a violent dispute, but it ended in agreement that the common cause is fighting disease.
