GC: You will have before you the psychic work of Edgar Cayce, whose body is present here in this room, especially that phase of same regarding the financing for the institution, and more especially the associations with [2671] and [943] of 12 Halcyon Arcade, Miami, Florida, through their agent, Mr. [287]. There have been several readings given for these people. Will you tell us, please, just how this situation should be handled, in the light of the information as has been given, that from this source a nucleus for this institution might be obtained. Now, tell us how this may be obtained. You will answer any questions I might ask you regarding this.
-
EC: Yes, we have the psychic work - the various phases of same, especially that association of the work with the information as has been given to [2671] and [943] of Miami, Florida, and as to how, in the light of that information as has been given, the situation should be handled.
-
In the answering of this condition, this would be well to review the information as has been given in this respect. First, there has been given, those who are interested in the psychic phenomena as manifested through Edgar Cayce, and have been convinced through that benefit received, directly or indirectly, would contribute to such. The conditions then being, these have known, are receiving, such benefits. It has been given that there would be presented a condition that would seem at variance to that as had been presented for the usages of the information furnished through such phenomena. The conditions have been presented through the associations with [2671] and [943], through their personal representative, [287]. The conditions have been given, that through these sources the nucleus for such an institution might be obtained. It has been given to ask and ye shall receive. It has been given that when these individuals ask to see, to communicate directly with the work, rather than through the agent, to respond, and that through same there would be obtained that necessary.
-
Then, in the further investigation of the individuals, through any agent, the information as furnished CERTAINLY should be such as to bring about that desire to see, to know, to hear the information first hand. Then, the forces, the psychic forces, should be able to handle the situation as they are presented, in every suggestion as would be presented from an agent, for one direct that has been given is interested.
-
(Q) Should further readings be given Mr. [287] for [2671] and [943], or first getting some agreement direct from [2671] and [943] as to a nucleus for the institution on account of work done and to be done? (A) To attempt to get such an agreement, before the individuals ask to see personally, or be in direct touch with such information, would be to go directly AGAINST the information as has been given. Then give such readings, should the readings be depended upon to care for such information.
-
(Q) Is [2671] and [943] a corporation or a co-partnership? (A) Co-partnership.
-
(Q) Would it be commercializing the work too much, or to the best interest of the work, to give [2671] and [943] a certain number of readings for a definite sum of money to begin the institute on? If best, how many readings and how much money? (A) Depending upon how well, and what such readings were asked for. In the whole of the psychic phenomena, we find this phase must be looked into, as well as any one. The whole is as a one. The one is as a whole - that is, EVERY phase of same should work together for the good of all; for, as has been given, “The laborer is worthy of the hire,” whether in dollars and cents, position or place. Well, then, if such is the necessity under that phase, then consider same. As to amount, that varying according to work done and character, for do not contract or agree to do that that is in contradiction to the whole, see?
-
(Q) Would it be for the best interest of the institute to secure agreement on a percentage of oil found or of treasure dug up for readings given? (A) These would be the NATURAL outcome, were the people, [2671] and [943] sold on the proposition. They are not heartless!
-
That is all the questions.
-
We are through for the present.

R4. 1/1/27 EC’s ltr. to his sister, Annie Cayce:
My dear precious Sister:-
Several times Brother has tried to write you, but I would either find that I couldn’t, or something interfered so that I had to put if off - but I want to get it off this morning if possible. One of the very first letters for the New Year!
Edgar Evans is getting along as well, I suppose, as could be expected under the conditions. I’m thankful to say there have been no complications, but a deep burn and covering so much space is hard to heal, and is very slow. He hasn’t much use of himself as yet. Only able to scoot around on the floor, unless somebody carries him. But I believe it will be alright now in the next few weeks - but seven weeks of it has been rather trying on him, as well as the rest of the household. The little box that you sent him - he certainly appreciated it. The readings had warned him about eating candy, and that was the only sweets he could eat or WOULD eat during the whole holiday season.
Hugh Lynn has been with us, and of course that has been a real pleasure to all of us - but we have been kept very close - only a few of us, of course, able to get out at any time. Hugh Lynn goes back to school Tuesday, I believe.
Many of our friends remembered us very nicely. I certainly appreciated the little box that you sent us, and I appreciate the loving thought that prompted you to enclose the little keepsake that was of your own making. It is these little things, as I know you well understand, that tie us close together.
I haven’t heard from Ola any more. Mary sent me the rose cuttings. I had a letter from Sarah just a few days before Christmas. She sent Edgar Evans a little package.
Yes, I think I can fully understand what this Christmas has meant to you. I have thought of you a very, very, great deal. I was reading over my Christmas letters from Mother for the last few years. It was almost like having her talking with me again. But we have to meet conditions as they are - not as we with our poor little minds would have them made for our own satisfaction and convenience. I believe Morton has expressed in a few words the real lesson of life in about as beautiful a way as I have ever seen it expressed [See [900]‘s 12/25/26 ltr. to EC under 900-288, Par. R3]. We all have to come to this realization, and the sooner we can make our mental faculties conscious of it, the better it is for all of us. I’m glad you liked the little offering I sent for Mother’s grave. I certainly do hope that we will be able in the very near future to get it arranged like we would love to keep it. Did you get your evergreens planted? Did Mr. Reeder sod the lot?
I sent Pa the money to pay for his seven treatments. If you think that he needs more, insist on his going, and I will take care of it, if it is at all possible. Yes, you are quite right - there was so much difference in the purpose in the lives of our parents. Possibly this difference, and the vision of same, when we allow our mental faculties to take in the scope of each, is what broadens our own abilities and prepares us to be more capable of serving more. Genteel and courteous on the one hand, loving, forgiving, compassionate, and God fearing on the other. Each of them have always been their own worst enemy, viewed from purely a material basis - but the one building that home not made with hands, where moth and rust does not enter, and where thieves may not break in and steal.
I was not surprised at all at the turn affairs took as regarding the business, but I do hope that you will soon be able to get it straightened out, in such a way and manner as you can arrange to begin doing something for yourself. You have always given your life and your efforts for others, and I’m sure you will say you are too old to change now, and wouldn’t want to if you could - but, just as it has been with all the other servants of the Master, the good things in life are to be enjoyed by those who know HOW to use them, and you are deserving of some of these, and I am sure you will know how to apply them in your life.
It is certainly a very wonderful thing that Mr. Ezell has been called to the little church there, and we see, even in death, Mother bringing greater pleasure greater possibilities to the lives of so many. I’m certainly mighty glad that you and Pa hear him whenever you can. I certainly wish that I could. Please remember me to him when you see him again.
We had right hard luck - Mamie Gray sent us a turkey for Christmas. She had it dressed - they failed to keep it iced properly, and - we couldn’t eat it!
Sister, the handkerchief to me - the box of sausage to me - and the box of candy to Eckin was all we received from you - was that right? You seem to refer in both of your letters to possibly some other little package to Gertrude. I wanted to inquire about it if you had sent something.
Write to me whenever you can. Take care of yourself, and with bushels and bushels of love, and hoping for you the greatest pleasures possible during the coming year - with love from all,
Your devoted, Brother [Edgar Cayce] EC:GD
R5. Quote from [900]‘s ltr. of 12/25/26 [under 900-288 Reports]:
THE LESSON OF LIFE by [900]
Not for fame, and not for name, not for power, luxury or pain; not even for that called by man, success, do I strive, and work and strain, but rather that in my humble way I may contribute my small share to the whole cause of creation, doing my bit for a cause so glorious in itself, so outstanding in its ideal of life, truth and love, and last but not least a cause born, fostered and administered of a Creator whose essence permeates the whole and whose creative power is the only reality I can find within or outside of myself. My shoulder to the wheel of creation, I SERVE ITS PURPOSE for the glorification, and in the effort, behold, I become aware of myself being it. Its glory my glory, its purpose my purpose, its process my process, I lose myself in it, but to find myself again this power of life and creation. Such is the lesson of Life, and once learned and practised, its reward is eternal.
