This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of January, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [257], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:50 to 12:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C. (Body and enquiring mind - Questions)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257]; this we have had before, also those conditions, circumstances and relations that exist in the present.

2. Ready for questions.

3. (Q) Please review the meeting of [257], Wm. Dunn, David Goldman and Ed Thompson at the manufacturers Trust Co. offices, 3rd floor 55 Broad St., Wed. at 2:30, and advise [257] as to what the results will be for the reorganization, refinancing and reopening of the Carolina Wood Products Co. (A) Provided conditions may be worked out with the refinance corporation, there - as indicated by and in the meeting - are very favorable. As to any particular activity on the part of the individuals in their relationships to same, these remain about in the same manner as they have existed. The activities, then, are to come from the reports of others to whom, through whom, [257] must go for the aid and help.

4. (Q) Is the David Goldman proposition that he is submitting an equitable one that [257] should accept? (A) Will not be acceptable to the refinance corporation. Unless this could be handled by [257] having or raising or influencing capital from other sources, we do not find it practical.

5. (Q) What changes should [257] suggest for his future welfare and success? (A) This is not compatible (this question) with the information that has been given regarding either of these! Changes in these would mean that [257] must make for either the associations in this direction or for changes in those directions wherein there may be used the facilities of other manufacturing organizations for the manufacturing and delivering of that which the body [257] may sell.

6. (Q) With present associates, which agency will arrange the money - RFC or Federal Reserve? (A) It will have to be a combination of each, but must come through the agency of RFC.

7. (Q) Will Wm. Dunn suggest a counter suggestion as to the financing of the proposition if the present plans do not go thru? (A) Provided those changes are made as indicated, that there may be other capital or the assurance or insurance of the associations that would carry on to a more equitable understanding of that which may be expected.

8. (Q) What will now be necessary to complete the plans for reopening? (A) They haven’t changed from the very first! There must be shown and must be seen what has been indicated respecting the interesting of capital in a local or distinct activity in a territory, and that which has been indicated as to the various agencies that will be relieved from their activity in and through the cooperation of the other agencies in carrying on the project.

9. (Q) Is it best to continue the interest of O’Connor office or work through Dunn at the Bank? (A) It will necessarily have to go through O’Connor office to come in the RFC, as indicated must be the channel it must be sanctioned by.

10. (Q) What should [257] now do to get business? (A) It hasn’t changed; there’s not a bit of difference from that it’s been from the very first! As to how each must cooperate, as to how each corporation, organization, condition must be carried on in the activities to meet the necessary requirements.

11. (Q) The General Electric meeting that [257] held at Bridgeport Friday at 10:00 A. M. with Mr. C. E. Wilson in the G.E. Offices on Bond St., 5th floor, and with Mr. John Proctor; what plan will [257] be most successful in working out? (A) In being able to furnish the necessary requirements for carrying out the desire on the part of these people, in meeting their prices and in making the deliveries of the merchandise in a manner that will be pleasing and in keeping with the policies of the organization.

12. (Q) What attitude do each hold for [257]? (A) Very good.

13. (Q) What must [257] now do to get business? (A) Be able to handle it when he gets it! To satisfy them that he is capable and has the facilities for handling it!

14. (Q) Will GE join in ownership or just buy merchandise? (A) This would require, as indicated, a long period of activity to induce them to engage in the manufacturing end. In the present their particular interest is in just buying merchandise. And that’s the proposition to be met!

15. (Q) What proposition should [257] submit to them that will put him back in good favor as the Forces advised him eight years ago? (A) As just indicated and given. Satisfy them that [257] has, through his associations and connections, the facilities for handling the proposition that is desirous of being extended in the activities of the organization at the present time!

16. (Q) Will [257] be successful with this account in the Radio field? (A) Provided [257] can make these connections!

17. (Q) Should [257] bring in the aid in the refrigerator business and retail outlets that he might be able to give the company GE? (A) These would only be a matter AFTER there has been first the consideration of the present proposition in the radio cabinets.

18. (Q) Will [257] be able to take the business for the Asheville plant, or better take it for the Morgantown Furniture Co. of Morgantown, N.C., on a commission basis? (A) That depends upon the abilities to make the associations and connections in the proper time for the handling of the business in the manner in which is desirous of being handled. See, this makes confusion in asking questions in this manner. If the conditions are set so that the operations of the Carolina might be at once, it can be handled. If these are NOT able to be handled, then it won’t! Wait until you find a factory or make connections in another; or with such change necessitating, than it be handled through other channels.

19. (Q) When will they place the first orders? (A) Immediately. By the 15th or 18th of January.

20. (Q) How many cabinets will they need in 1935 from present indications? (A) About two and a half million dollars worth!

21. (Q) Should [257] go to Schenectady to see any of the old GE crowd, or the head of the purchasing divisions, or stay in present channels? (A) If [257] is able to make the associations and connections in such a way and manner that it can be handled in a satisfactory way and manner to those through whom the associations and connections have already been started, stay in same. If it necessitate that there be some delay or that the division of the order is to be a portion of it given to [257] for the activities, this will require or necessitate going to the old heads, see?

In other words, don’t give up because the facilities for handling same cannot be made in the immediate. But be ready to handle same as soon as you possibly can. But MAKE the connections and associations!

22. (Q) Should [257] consider or count on using any of the finances of C. W. Beck of Cleveland, 615 Terminal Tower Bldg., for the Carolina business with present associations? [See 257-141, Par. 17-A—22-A in re Beck.] (A) We do not find so. This would make for some cross currents and some associations and questions asked, of bringing in - unless this may be done entirely without any interference from any of the other sources or channels of activity, and be supplied directly from [257] himself - and then, as indicated, it would make entanglements.

23. (Q) What way and manner will [257] be able to work with Beck for the best interest of all? (A) Is [257] contemplating this with these questions asked! These are foolish questions! Either ride one horse or get off and walk! As indicated, too oft with the activities of [257] there have been too many irons in the fire at once, without tempering on any of them!

24. (Q) [257] has permission and advice from Dunn to bring suit against the Bronfmans of Canada. Is this the right time for Lande to proceed to make demand and then sue them if they don’t answer? (A) Should make demands, as indicated long ago. DO it!

25. (Q) And then sue them if they don’t answer? (A) As indicated long, long, long, LONG ago; make demands and then sue!

26. (Q) Please review [257]‘s activities for the past two weeks and tell him whether he is consistent in his plan actions, and advise him how to improve his ability to consummate and get his business started and any other advice he needs at this time. (A) As indicated, follow in those channels - choose the one to be acted upon and do it! And do it now!

Choose which channel. Is it to be through the Carolina, or is he going to let these interfere with the abilities to make associations and connections for the handling of those propositions which have been opened for him by the other demands or activities of his old associations and connections? Follow the one or the other!

27. (Q) Any other advice at this time? (A) Do RIGHT! Keep the mind clear. Make for the sincere activities in a sincere way and manner. And we will find the associations and connections as of old will make for better conditions.

R1. 12/23/34 [257]‘s letter to EC:

It is just the hour of midnight - on the up - and up - it is now another Christmas eve day - and as I look back over the year and years - and begin to check accomplishments - I finally decide that all we really have is our family - and maybe one or two good friends - and then I look over the friendships - and finally decide that the man who said - whosoever has one man he can call friend - that man is rich indeed - so tonight I feel like a millionaire - because I know I do have one friend - and one that has been tried over the period of a quarter of a century - and for that reason tonight when all is quiet - I sit down to chat with you for a while. We seem never to be able to do it any more. Your time is always so sought for - and the problems so great - that my mind is always trying to work out a plan or plans to make things easier for you and yours - that we never get time to be personal anymore. Well, it was funny about C.W. Beck and his Texas plan. He is sincere - and will probably want to talk more about it. He wants you to come to New York when he’s here after the first of the year. You hit him right - if he gets water like you said - well we will all go to Texas. He is anxious to help us - and once we get started in Texas we will all be there - and I believe we would be happy there too.

Well I am meeting daily on the factory matter - we have a meeting today at 2:45 - at the bank - I will write you later on the results. I feel that we have gained in this year - not lost - we have made new and better friends - the work is in better shape - and if I can get started - where the finances are easier for us both - we will accomplish big things. We had them - but did not know what to do with them. We have had many heartaches - but much happiness has come to us in seeing others helped by you - to do better - to live better - to be better - you have prolonged life - you have made the blind see - the cripple walk - to the weak you have given faith and to the strong - you have given “desire” to help others - so what more can life offer - my little donation - is to talk about you and how I would like to be able to shout from the house tops - all the good things I do know about you and I will some day - and they will listen - my mind runs that way today - when on this day re remember what one man’s birth did to change the history many times of the world - and yet he, they would not let live in peace - but made him suffer - so in our way - how can we kick - but only yearn to do more and more for them and those we love. We must succeed - and the Good Lord will not leave us - he knows our innermost thought - and that no one can mislead him in. We too know it - and need not fear. We will go on and on - serving him - regardless of who attempts to make us stumble or falter. Daily I hear from someone - today Mr. Freeman, Dr. Coombs - others have called wanting to know when you expect to return. Mother is a little better today

• still very weak - she will get a battery - she had one - but [2653] took it to Reilly and they said it was no good - I don’t how they know - I wonder if it’s the same battery. [See 325-52.]

I am going to G.E. Thursday morning to see them. It is again where it was eight years ago - and you said I could sell them

• you also said they again would buy and here they are - so altho not coming as fast as we would like - I have absolute faith things will work out.

I will follow along this path - and I am sure we will not fail - I can see a lot of reasons for everything that has happened.

R2. 12/24/34 [257]‘s letter to EC:

Well we had a meeting today - to be continued in the A.M. of Wednesday - Thompson, Dunn and Goldman - the latter owns the plant so I will know better than what the next move is to be

• we believe we will then go to the Federal reserve - and if unsuccessful then to RFC - so the meeting is off until Wednesday.

I am sorry about the [632] child - but you told them what to expect and have done all that you could and more than a brother could have done - you gave of your self, your time, your energy when sorrow filled your own soul and that of your family - and that is the most wonderful of all spirits - the Good Lord will not forget true and faithful servants - who do for the pure love of serving. We have all felt terribly about Lynn [Wm. Lynn Evans, Gertrude’s brother.] - and have grieved about it. Do you think I am in order to write to the new President of the L and N - and see if I cannot bring the family to the attention of the road - for the memory of a worthy and faithful builder of the line for the past twenty years - give me the years he was with them - and a little of his work and I believe I can do it right with no embarrassment - it may help; it cannot harm I am sure.

Well Judge - today is the anniversary of my father’s passing and it’s the happy day for the boys as tomorrow their trinkets-slim as they are will await them - so that is life - one’s sorry is another’s happiness - let’s hope that his year will bring nothing but happiness and no sorrow; no heartaches; but success in action, accomplishment, in friendships. This is our year I believe - and you can depend that I shall put forth every effort - to bring us all happiness.

Let me know what I can do further - I hope all of your family is enjoying good health and that Gertrude will soon the kindly hand of the Maker making her path easier - in the memory of the Love that she and Lynn bore for one another.

Write me soon - I will keep you posted - when do you expect to return to New York? What are your plans?
