-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2587].
-
Now as we find, there are disturbing conditions which have prevented the better normal functioning of the organs of the body.
-
In the present only functional disturbances are indicated. These may grow into organic disturbances, or they might become so separated as to set up conditions of their own.
-
We find that the conditions which exist arise from things that existed at or during the time of the birth of the body; and a pressure exists in the lumbar and the lower dorsal areas which has hindered the functioning of the organs of assimilation.
-
Hence, as indicated, rarely has the body ever taken any quantities of foods. Rarely does that as taken become easily assimilated.
-
These come from pressures existing in the lumbar and the lower dorsal areas.
-
Naturally these have caused forms of lesions in the area from which the vagus center receives its impulse from cerebro-spinal and sympathetic nervous system, - or in the 3rd and 4th cervical centers.
-
These produce a great nervous strain on the body; and it produces in the sympathetic nervous system the effects of high tension, high imaginative and high emotional nature, and those conditions in which the body becomes almost hysterical in its natures at times.
-
The giving way, or the expression of these is rather an outlet for the body; yet usually the suggestions or activities concerning the outbursts for the body bring other disturbances that cause suppressions.
-
These then produce a very much impoverished blood supply, low blood count - that is, of red blood; slow activity even in the best of the digestive forces, little of proper eliminations, rarely the ability to cause the perspiratory system to function; causing a disturbance through ALL the eliminating channels; causing such repression through the lungs as to give very poor reaction to the blood stream at times, by the re-oxidizing of the system.
-
All of these, as we find, arise primarily from those conditions existing in the areas indicated, and their reflexes.
-
As to the effect of the organs, - at times there is excess activity of kidneys, slow activity in the liver and pancreas and spleen; though at times the repression through the areas of the spleen itself causes a fullness and a heaviness, and a feeling of pain through that area - as well as at the pit of the stomach.
-
The stomach itself is very small, and tipped; so that this also causes distress - greater distress - to the nervous system.
-
Then, in making applications for the betterment of this body:
-
First we would begin with a series of gentle but firm osteopathic adjustments. Have them twice a week until about sixteen have been taken in the first series. Do not attempt to make the full adjustments in the lumbar and lower dorsals at the first time, to be sure, but gradually relax the body. Massage also the abdominal area; not as to cause any great disturbance, but so that there is a better activity. After the first sixteen treatments, rest from these for a month, and then have them once a week until sixteen more have been taken.
-
Within the next ten days or three weeks, begin also with the use of the Radio-Active Appliance when ready to retire. At first this will tend to irritate rather than to quiet, but if the body will keep this on for thirty minutes to an hour for the first three times, then it will be found that it will aid in equalizing the circulation - that will have been set up generally by the osteopathic corrections being made - and bring beneficial effects to the body.
-
Keep this up constantly, - that is, each day for at least thirty to ninety days. Be sure that the attachments are circulated properly about the body, and that the anode plates are kept very clean.
-
Then as to diet:
-
Not too much sweets, not too much meats.
-
Do not attempt to crowd the body or to force food. Let this become rather as a natural consequence, but eat often.
-
In the morning have citrus fruit juices or cereals, but not both at the same meal - rather alternate these, having one on one day, the other the next, and so on; with a good, full glass of milk, a little bread or toast if desired, a little fruit other than the citrus fruit if desired.
-
Between the morning and the noon meal take at least a good, full glass of malted milk. This should be made to be palatable, by whatever type of flavor the body desires; whether vanilla, chocolate or what character, or BOSCO may be taken, or it may be altered if it becomes objectionable.
-
At the noon meal take rather beef juice with the juices of vegetables; or a soup, or juices or vegetables or meat broths and the like; not heavy foods.
-
Then in the afternoon have at least a good big saucer of ice cream, whatever flavor is preferred. This may be mixed occasionally with ices; as orange ice or lemon ice, or pineapple ice or the like.
-
In the evenings have well cooked vegetables, plenty of liver - this at least two or three times a week; also fish, fowl and lamb. The green and leafy vegetables are preferable; not so much, but some of each.
-
Do these and we will bring the much better and near to normal conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes the frequent leg ache at night, and how may it be overcome? (A) The pressures upon the sciatic nerves from those suppressions or subluxations in the lumbar and sacral areas.
-
(Q) In what condition are tonsils and should any treatment be given? (A) The general treatment as being indicated. Do not have same removed as yet.
-
(Q) Does her great desire to return to live with her Grandmother [2808] in …, Fla., have any bearing on her physical condition? (A) As has been indicated.
Do these things, and we will find great improvement, and much better conditions for this body, [2587].
- We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/28/41 Aunt [2678] wrote re EC’s suggestion that [2587] might be brought to Virginia Beach to follow the suggested treatment.
R2. 10/4/41 GD’s letter to [2678]:
Mrs. [2678], will you please give me the names of the larger towns near …, Fla., or near …, S.C., so that I can find out the names of the osteopaths from the American Osteopath Association? I’ve found one in Aiken, S.C., but that is too far away to go back and forth, isn’t it? It would seem to me that with her grandmother would be the best place for [2587] to follow her treatments, especially since she so greatly desires to be there - and her grandmother really is desirous of carrying out the Reading for her. To go to an entirely strange place and among strangers would be hard on a child 8 yrs. old; besides, if she were here, she would have to be taken to Norfolk for the osteopathic treatments anyway. And it might be that we could locate an osteopath just as near to her grandmother. I couldn’t find … on the map; that’s why I’m asking you. Sincerely, GD.
R3. 10/31/41 Grandmother [2808] wrote she was trying to follow the reading, taking [2587] to C. E. Dove, D.O., in West Palm Beach, Fla.
R4. 12/3/41 Grandmother [2808]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I feel that I should let you know just how [2587] seems to be now that she has had ten of the sixteen osteopathic treatments & the use of the radio active appliance all that time. Mostly, one hour each night - sometimes a little over one half hour - she never feels any sort of sensation from it
- except the first time she said she felt a tingling in her hands & feet - I am beginning to think it was her imagination, that time.
Now as to diet - she absolutely refuses liver in any shape & she will not touch soup of any kind. Only very occasionally will she eat an egg & then if must be hard boiled. She gets about one qt. of milk each day - & a part of an apple, sometimes she will eat a small whole one, likes bananas, carrots & white potato seems to be the vegetables she will eat on hand much protest of course. We try to get her to eat others & succeed, very seldom. I try to vary her meals as much as I can, but so little appeals to her. She likes nuts, peanuts especially but I am afraid to let her eat many.
She is never still during the day & we can only keep her quiet when she has the radio appliance on - by reading to her.
I wondered if you wanted to give any suggestions to Dr. Dove as to the treatments as this stage - he read what you wrote at the time of the reading.
I also wanted to ask if it would be advisable to give her liver in the form of pills or tablets. The thought of fresh liver seems to sicken her. She now weighs 51 lbs. so has gained a little since last summer.
R5. 1/6/42 Grandmother [2808]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce
I received yours of Jan 3rd yesterday and will have [2587] ready in the check up Sat 10 10.30 to 11.30. She will be in south east room on the 2nd floor in Mr. […]‘s home No. … …, Fla.
I noticed when Dr. Dove was giving her a treatment and he massaged her abdomen she always tried to draw away & said it hurt her - it appears to me it was when he approached the right side more than the left. 1. What is the cause of that? 2. Why is it she is not able to go to sleep soon after being put to bed. She is left by her self in a dark room and usually in a good frame of mind - but seems unable to go to sleep before 9 or 10 o’clock - even since we have stopped the Radio Active Appliance. 3. Is is bad for her to go to moving pictures - She usually goes Saturday afternoon - never at night.
Thanking you again for your kindness - I remain
Yours truly [2808]

B1. 9/9/41 Mother’s letter to EC:
…, S.C.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Enclosed you will find my application for a reading for [2587], age 8. In a letter to my mother (Mrs. [2808], …, Fla.) you state you must know the EXACT address. She will be in the home of Mrs. […] in the upstairs north-east bedroom, …, S.C. Let me know if that is the information you wish.
[2587] is very thin and has no appetite most of the time. She complains of “being full” when she eats her meals - and very often at night she has leg ache. For the past week she has been eating better - but I am very anxious to know just what keeps her so thin and why she has such poor appetite. She has a very hard time getting to sleep at night - tho she goes to bed early she will stay awake until 10 & 11 o’clock. That hasn’t happened this week, however. She seems to be a rather nervous child too and can’t stay still.
I will expect to hear from you soon.
Very sincerely, (Mrs.) […]
