-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2589].
-
As we find, there are conditions that disturb the functioning of the organs of this body.
-
These conditions may be called impediments, and - in one form or another - have existed for some time. With the resistance being broken down gradually, they are assuming greater proportions.
-
We find that these began primarily from an overstrain in the body, and a subluxation which existed in the area of the 8th, 7th and 9th dorsals.
-
Then there were those distresses that came from taxation through congestion, and the eliminations being disturbed.
-
By or through the imperfect circulation through the caecum and colon area, as caused by the subluxation, we find that there began the creating of mucous.
-
This formed a character of colitis, which has at times produced a plethora in one portion of the colon and a tendency towards prolapsus in the other.
-
The effects that have been produced through the various stages have been of varied characters. At times, when there has been an upsetting of the digestive system, there have been headaches, sour stomach, the inability of the body to rest well.
-
Reflecting from the nervous pressures that brought about the cutting off of circulation towards the lower portion of body, by the varied periods of the pressure in the caecum area, these caused at times aching feet, a tendency towards a neuritic reaction in the muscular forces.
-
All of these have been varied effects as have been produced in the body.
-
In the present these have reached those proportions where there are reflexes to the activity of the liver, gall duct, pancreas and spleen. All of these, and with some reflex in the kidneys. These in the present are rather sympathetic conditions, but have been gradually growing.
-
Then, in making corrective measures, there should be rather the combination of applications for the body; but ALL should be done - or none should be begun.
-
First, have prepared a compound as a tonic as well as a corrective to work with the other administrations which we would suggest at this time.
-
To 4 ounces of Distilled Water add 1 tablespoonful of Strained Honey. Let this come to a boil. Skim, and then after this has cooled - but not cold, add to this as the carrier, in the order named:
Grain Alcohol…1 ounce, Fusion of Wild Ginseng…1 ounce, (this means a teaspoonful of the Ginseng crushed and boiled in 2 ounces of Rain or Distilled Water, until there is 1 ounce), Wild Ginger…1/2 ounce, (prepared in the same manner; but neither of these should be the cultivated, you see), Syrup of Rhubarb…1/2 ounce.
Shake the solution before the dose is taken, which would be a teaspoonful twice each day.
-
Begin also immediately with osteopathic corrections, with special reference in the main to the areas indicated - that is, 8th, 7th and 9th dorsals; though, to be sure, there are reflexes in the upper dorsal and cervical areas that must be considered as the corrections are made in the dorsals indicated. Also coordinate occasionally the lumbar and sacral area.
-
It would be better for these to be given in series. First take them twice a week until about ten have been taken. Then rest from them a month, and take them again for an equal number; keeping up the tonic throughout the period, and also being careful of the diet - as we will indicate - which will aid eliminations.
-
Have at least three to four colonic irrigations, professionally given. These should be at least two to three weeks apart, but continue to have these so long as there is the indication of the mucous accumulations in the areas of the ascending colon. Hence if it is necessary to have more than the three to four colonic irrigations, do so.
-
Then as to the diet:
-
Keep away from too much fats.
-
DO take a great deal of fresh and raw vegetables, as well as cooked vegetables of all natures.
-
DO NOT take fried foods to any excess.
-
DO have plenty of citrus fruits of all kind and citrus fruit juices, though many of these will necessarily be taken very lightly until the osteopathic corrections are made so as to cause the better agreement with the body forces.
-
Do these and we will bring better conditions for this body, [2589].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes great dizziness when lying down or trying to get up? (A) As indicated, the reflex to the liver, kidneys, and NATURALLY making the circulation change suddenly produces dizziness.
-
(Q) Pains in back, especially in lower left spinal tract, a tendency to lumbago? (A) From the pressures as indicated that are a part of the general condition.
-
DO that suggested. Do them all, consistently, persistently.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 9/20/41 [2589]‘s letter to EC:
…, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce -
Received copy of your reading very promptly. Indeed I do find it very interesting & instructive.
The colonic condition is described more nearly than I felt it could be - been going on for years - a big fight to keep well at all - enough to carry on with any thing nearly like efficiency. Lately condition has grown so much worse & the “back” condition grows alarming. I am making effort already to carry out all details of prescribed treatment. Have not been able as yet to get Wild Ginseng - but will keep on trying.
Am going to interview Osteopath today & arrange for treatments - also irrigations. Will be glad to report to you my progress.
It is good of you to be so interested in my case, and it is wonderful for me to know I am on the way to find help.
These things are discouraging you know. [2011] is so interested. She has been such a wonderful daughter & is so anxious to have me improve.
One or two minor falls in last two years may have aggravated spinal condition.
It was a great pleasure to meet you and your family this last summer.
Cooler weather is with us now - but thru the day the sunshine is glorious. With best wishes for you all
[2589]
Will mail another check soon.

Gentlemen:
Today I had two patients referred from your Association for osteopathic structural treatments. They were Mrs. [2589] and Mrs. [2585].
Both these patients will receive my very best professional services, as will all other patients who may come in from time to time after consulting you.
I am, of course, very much interested in the structural or osteopathic analysis, and the directions for osteopathic treatment, with which these patients were supplied. They were most remarkable. I shall follow them closely.
What are the terms, the charges, for consultations and readings? There are certain cases which, for personal or professional reasons I should like to see analyzed.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks for the work you are doing for the benefit of mankind and the advancement of useful arts and sciences.
Respectfully yours, [signed] Robert H. Miller
R3. 9/22/41 EC’s letter to Dr. Miller:
Dr. Robert H. Miller 615 Liberty Trust Bldg Roanoke, Va.
Dear Dr. Miller;-
Thank you for yours for the 20th, we are very glad to have your cooperation, am sending you some data under separate cover, this will possibly explain the entire matter better than could by letter. If after you have read this, there are questions you wish to ask, will be glad to answer to the best of my ability.
We have quite a number of Osteopaths through out the country who cooperate with us and if you wish to know their opinion, will be glad to give your name and address and let you hear from them direct.
Will be glad to help where ever and when ever possible with any particular or individual case you may have.
Thanking you
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R4. 10/25/41 [2589]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce, Because of my very recent illness, my letter to you has been delayed. [2011] says she has told you of the very severe attack I had last Sunday - but now I am up and getting about, though of course my treatments have been interrupted.
I’ve tried very conscientiously to obey all instructions given in your reading. However in some way I missed all information about Oil packs - and Olive oil application. I believe reference to my case will give you that information also.
I am so eager to improve and am ready to complete any suggestive treatment. It is splendid of you to take such a friendly interest in us both. You have been such a wonderful help to my dear [2011] in her INDIVIDUAL affairs and she values your interest and advice tremendously. She is such a wonderfully sensitive soul - and we have always been SO CLOSE to each other. That her happiness means even more to me than my own. There is perfect harmony between us, so I appreciate doubly what you are doing for her.
I have been interested in H. Lynn’s recent marriage - and join [2011] in wishing the young couple all the happiness possible. You and Mrs. C. are rejoicing, I know, in having the new daughter in your family.
I should appreciate any information as to “oil packs,” etc. which I haven’t had & know nothing of how to go about it.
With every good wish for you all
Very Sincerely [2589]
R5. 10/27/41 EC’s letter to [2589];
Dear Mrs. [2589];
Thanks for yours of the 25th - also for enclosure. Glad you have been feeling better. Am enclosing one of the direction sheets for the use of the Oil Pack. But will repeat a bit here, and hope it will help; in fact have had many cases where it had been said operations were necessary and this has cured the condition without same.
Have large enough piece of flannel at least three thicknesses of same, to cover the area from just below the rib to the caecum on the right side and over the gall duct area. Have oil warm, apply direct to the body, cover with cloths and piece of oil cloth to keep from soiling bed linen, for caster oil is certainly the soaking kind, then put an electric pad over same, turn on so it keeps pretty hot. Keep on for at least an hour, do this for three days, one hour each day. After the 3rd treatment take two table spoons full of Olive oil. Rest three days and do it all over again, it will get rid of that trouble am sure. This should not interfere with other treatments, you can take these yourself, will give Miss [2011] a nice job fixing them for you, by the fourth or fifth time you have done this you should see results in passing of the stones if any there, or will allay any pain you may have. As have told you, Mrs. [2589], you remind me of my own Mother, so could never do enough for you - for that reason, to say nothing of how much I think of Miss [2011], and just hope and pray may be of some help for her and her problems. Oh, but they are not problems any more, she is a dear sweet girl and we all think worlds of her.
Hoping you will be feeling much better soon, and with all good wishes, and love from all,
[signed] Edgar Cayce
R6. 11/41 [2589]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Am inclosing small check on my acct. Hope soon to finish balance.
Continuing my treatments to best of my ability - but sorry to say I am slow. Too many complications seem to loom up but I’m sure I’ll do better presently. Dr. Miller is doing his best. Oil packs helped much, also electric applications by Dr. Miller. We trust you are all well. This glorious autumn weather. Sincere good wishes for you & Mrs. Cayce.
Sincerely [2589]
R7. 1/5/42 [2589]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce
Thank you for waiting for me. Things have some how piled up.
I’m trying to keep up prescribed treatments as far as I’m able to. The irrigations the most difficult to get and receive proper results. Oil packs seem most beneficial, but treatments (osteopathic) bring such slow results. However, shall try again this month. I really am somewhat improved, but am impatient to get strong more quickly - now that every one is needed in this world’s work.
I trust you and your family enjoyed a lovely Christmas together. [2011] and I send you all every good wish for this new year.
Very sincerely [2589]
R8. 1/9/42 EC’s letter to [2589]:
Dear Mrs. [2589]:-
Thanks for yours of the 5th - with enclosure. Glad you are keeping up your treatments, feel sure the Oil packs with the rest of the suggestions will bring real help and relief - the Oil packs are wonderful. Know by experience there, and they do the work.
Yes, we had a very nice Christmas - were fortunate enough to have the young man in the army Edgar Evans Cayce] home for Christmas dinner, and tho he could spend only a few hours was much better than not having him at all. Every one was so nice to me, do not feel am worthy of all the consideration given me - just like the lovely package from you and Miss [2011] - but makes me more determined to try and live up to it all, and with HIS help hope to be able to help some where along the line.
Having quite a bit of winter here just now - ice and snow, a bit unusual for us, but very pretty - my, but takes the heat to keep us warm.
Thanking you again, and with all good wishes to you and yours
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R9. 2/21/42 [2589]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Both [2011] & I are grateful to you for copy of your Psychic Reading of Feb. 3-‘42 [281-60].
We both were up for repairs from VERY heavy colds, which cut down our usefulness for quite some time. I’ve done my best to keep up treatments that had to be suspended for a time - and I did take precautions as you suggested. The aftermath upset my afflicted members but I’m rested and now feel general conditions are improved enough to enable me to CARRY ON in a mild way. I shall grow stronger soon I hope.
I have - and am continually pondering upon the message -
“He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague was stayed.”
We’ve not been able to completely get away from the feeling of individual helplessness in this bewildering time - and we must find an anchor to which to cling. During the first world war I heard a wonderful minister (a Unitarian) say, “The hand of God is so BIG we cannot comprehend him sometimes, but all Truth must survive.”
I’m so glad to have your words and observe the specified time of prayer with you and the group “to be still and know.”
As for my treatments I shall try to resume colonic irrigations very soon, as I’m sure they are most necessary, but as the last was followed by severe gall-bladder attack “which laid me low” I’ve hesitated about them. But I’m stronger now. The oil packs have benefitted me more surely than any other part of treatment. Have not responded to Dr. Miller’s work quickly as I should. He is fine however, and a conscientious worker. I have urged a friend here to consult you for consultation and she says she hopes to get to Beach & see you soon. [2589]
R10. 2/23/42 EC’s letter to [2589]:
Dear Mrs. [2589]:-
Thanks for yours of the 21st - glad you and Miss [2011] like the reading [281-60] and suggestions for keeping the prayer period, think your analysis of the question just fine - to be able to stand between the living and the dead indicates a very active part for each and every individual - yet each a very necessary part. Sincere - earnest - unrelenting in our purpose, simply stated but very significant in its effect - is much like the parable in next Sunday’s S.S. Lesson. We as individuals are to sow the seed of righteousness before GOD and know HE alone can give the increase - HE alone can stay the PLAGUE of the WAR, and HE will, do we but do our part, and the seed sowing is living daily before and with our fellow man.
Do hope you will soon be feeling fine and well again - have been ill myself for several days - almost had Pneumonia, but feeling much better today - have been sick about a week.
Wish Miss [2011] would come spend a few days with us - she might have a nice, quiet rest here, and would be glad to have her.
Thanks again for every thing - let us hear from you and with love and all good wishes from all,
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R11. 10/29/48 Daughter, [2011]‘s letter:
Dear Hugh Lynn:
Just wanted you to know that my dear mother passed away Sunday October 17th. She had been ill for almost two years and since Jan 1, 1948, in bed continuously. She had a serious heart condition, which would show some improvement at times & then again she was seriously ill. She had a heart attack on Oct 12th from which she never recovered. She was a wonderful soul & I miss her dreadfully. I am trying to carry on, as I still have my job. I have been at home continuously for two years, caring for her & managing the house hold. That is why you have never seen me at the Beach.
We did every thing in our power for her recovery, but she was too weak & frail to pull through.
Give my regards to all my dear friends -
How are the children & Sally? Do tell Sally hello -
Sincerely, [2011]
R12. 11/1/48 HLC’s letter to [2011]:
Miss [2589] …, Va.
Dear [2011]:
I was sorry to hear that your mother has passed away; yet, from what you told me about her condition, I realize that you may understand that it was much better for her to give up this physical body and be freed of the pain and suffering.
I know that your understanding of spiritual truths and the laws of spiritual evolution prepared you for her passing and that you will go on with renewed energy and effort in fulfilling your own life pattern.
Do come down and see us at the first opportunity.
Just as a reminder and in the event you may have misplaced it, I am enclosing a copy of one of our Bulletins [8/46], “The Door That Swings Outward.” I know that reading it again may be heartening to you.
With best regards from all here,
Sincerely, [HLC/dm] Encl.
R13. 11/29/48 Daughter [2011]‘s letter:
Dear Hugh Lynn:
I certainly appreciated your kind letter of sympathy. The August Bulletin which you enclosed in regard to “God’s Other Door”, was a real aid to me in making me realize that there is no death.
I returned from my vacation last Tuesday, having spent it in Pennsylvania and Ohio, seeing my mother’s people. None of them got down to the funeral. Before starting I contracted a chest cold and have not been able to throw it off. I have had it for almost three weeks. My resistance was so low when I took it. I was on the verge of a breakdown when mother passed, and when away did nothing but rest, which really helped my nerves and mental attitude.
If it were not for truth as we understand it, it would be much more difficult to make the adjustment of mother’s passing. Since my return I have felt her presence so keenly. We were so very close. She had been with me in several incarnations and was my mother during the Egyptian period of that incarnation.
Enclosed is a picture of Tom Sugrue I found in the Roanoke paper, dated November 14th. I hope to meet him someday.
I hope to visit the Beach some time this summer. Will enjoy seeing you all and hope to have an opportunity to talk with you, as I did not have that opportunity during the last Congress I attended.
Let me know the news. I am enjoying the new magazine, “The Searchlight”, very much.
Hope your family are well. Please remember me to Sally and Tommy. I have not yet met the new baby.
Sincerely, [2011]

Dear Mr. Cayce
As I’ve been far from well for some time, [2011] has persuaded me to ask for physical reading - in-as-much as no one here seems to help me to understand how to treat a rather chronic intestinal disturbance - centered in region of colon.
And I should like to ask too - what is causing pains in back
- especially in lower left of spinal tract - a tendency to lumbago and the great dizziness - when lying down - or trying to get up. It is sometimes staggering. If agreeable to you, I’ll send you payments each month until total is completed…
