This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of February, 1942, in accordance with request made by approximately two hundred members of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., who responded to his request to pray with him for divine guidance.

Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time.

1. GC: You will have before you the enquiring minds, the purposes of all those who have signified their desire to join Edgar Cayce a few minutes each day in prayer for divine guidance. You will advise these individuals what their attitude should be in the present world turmoil and how they should proceed in order to be of the greater service, as a group and as individuals. You will also advise the best time for meditation and the affirmation or prayer that should be used.

2. EC: Let all those who have signified their willingness to look to God for guidance know that God has remembered them. That they are conscious of being alive, with the abilities to hate and love, should indicate this to them.

3. Let each individual know that it came into life with a purpose from God. Let each individual know that it is as a harp upon which the breath of God would play.

4. While all may not be as prophets or as preachers, neither may all stand in the halls of learning as directors of men, know that you each have your part to do.

5. That God hath so willed that man should be free to choose should indicate for each individual his relationship to God, that may only be manifested in the manner the individual treats his fellow man.

6. All are aware that selfishness causes many to be downtrodden, living in hovels; that greed, as is being manifested, would make slaves of thy fellow man. Yet each individual as an individual, and as a group, may fulfill those words, “He stood between the living and the dead and the plague was stayed.”

7. Thus each individual is alive unto God or dead unto self.

8. As to the periods, - as near as practical, let there be unison of purpose. Early in the morning call unto thy God, and in the evening forget not His love nor His benefits.

9. Then, at that period when ye each are first aware, as ye awake, be STILL a moment and know that the Lord is God. Ask that ye be guided, THIS day, to so live that ye may stand between the living and the dead.

10. In the evening as ye sit at meat, be STILL a moment. For there is greater power in being still before thy God than in much speaking. Again give thanks for the day and its opportunities.

11. And so may ye, as seekers for divine guidance, be uplifted; and thus may ye hasten the day when war will be no more.

12. We are through for the present.

Dear Fellow Member:-

First, I wish to thank you for your willingness to cooperate with me each day in seeking divine guidance through these troublesome times.

I am sending you a copy of the Reading [281-60].

THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE APPLICATION OF THESE SUGGESTIONS WILL DEPEND ON JUST HOW SINCERELY EACH OF US, AS AN INDIVIDUAL, RELIES UPON THE DIRECTIONS GIVEN.

The world is changed by the result of individual action cooperating with others of similar mind and purpose.

Let us think, then, on what has been given:

Each morning as you awake, -

Be STILL and know the Lord, that He is God.

Pray earnestly that GOD direct your thought and acts for the day; that you, with your might, may stay the plague of deterioration resulting from hate, avarice, greed and jealousy.

Let us ask this not as a formality but with purpose, - while living AS we pray.

In the evening as you sit at meat, whether singly or in a group, -

BE STILL for a moment. There is strength in silence before GOD.

Then, give thanks for the blessings of the day. Do this audibly or silently, but reverently.

We can thus fulfil the words “HE STOOD BETWEEN THE LIVING AND THE DEAD AND THE PLAGUE WAS STAYED.”

To the Members of the Assoc. for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.:

Dear Friend:- On Jan. 8, 1942, I addressed you by letter regarding our uniting in prayer for divine guidance. The response was wonderful, and the letters from many of you, as to the help received through this means, have been pleasing to me personally. Most of all, however, I feel grateful to our heavenly Father for the help given.

Our Annual Congress will meet here, in Virginia Beach, on June 19th. At our first meeting we hope to have the cooperation of each one of you for a few minutes. On Friday morning, 10:30 o’clock, June 19th, let each of you join with us in prayer for guidance:

OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, WE COME TO THEE WITH OUR CARES AND OUR JOYS. THOU, O GOD, HAST PROMISED, IN JESUS THE CHRIST, TO HEAR US WHEN WE PRAY. AS WE COME AT THIS TIME, BE THOU VERY NEAR TO EACH ONE OF US, O FATHER; THAT WE MAY CHOOSE TO BE GUIDED BY THEE IN OUR DAILY CONTACTS WITH OUR FELLOW MAN. MAY THE THINGS WE SAY AND DO BE PLEASING TO THEE, AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THY DIVINE PLAN. MAY WE AS INDIVIDUALS BE WILLING TO STAND BETWEEN THE LIVING AND THE DEAD. MAY WE BE JOYOUS IN A SERVICE TO THEE, FOR THY NAME’S SAKE. LET LOVE RULE OUR LIVES: LOVE FOR THEE AND THE DIVINE RIGHT FOR EVERY MAN TO WORSHIP THEE. LET US PRAISE THEE WITH OUR LIVES AS WE LIVE THEM DAILY; GIVING ALL HONOR AND GLORY TO THEE, THROUGH THE CHRIST, OUR BROTHER, WHO GIVES EACH OF US - THROUGH FAITH

• THE RIGHT TO CALL THEE FATHER, AND TO RAISE OUR VOICES TO THEE.

OPEN OUR EYES, OUR HEARTS, TO THEE, AND GIVE US A BLESSING, O GOD, LEST WE FAINT. WE ASK IT IN THE NAME OF JESUS, THE CHRIST, WHO TAUGHT US TO PRAY;

“Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

I hope that each of you, if possible, will be with us at the Beach, - but let all who will, join in this period of medita- tion and prayer - the morning of June 19th, 10:30 to 10:45 o’clock.

R3. 6/2/42 HLC to Members who agreed to pray:

MEDITATION DURING READING PERIODS

You have indicated your willingness to cooperate in one or more periods of meditation during the week at the time Edgar Cayce gives a psychic reading.

As explained briefly in the last Bulletin [May 1942] we believe that prayer and constructive thought have a definite influence at such periods. We know that Edgar Cayce, especially while in an unconscious state during the periods for readings, is highly sensitive to thought impressions. We have taken this method of enlisting the cooperation of all our members in securing better readings.

Our first suggestions to you regarding holding the meditation are going to be very simple. From time to time we will send you other affirmations and additional information which you may find helpful.

Enclosed you will find an affirmation. This is the thought for the ten minute period. It is not something to be mumbled over. It is to be used to center your attention, to direct your thought energy.

Be regular in keeping the period, but do not worry or be disturbed if it is absolutely necessary that you miss periods now and then. We need your constructive thoughts not your disturbed ones.

Before you begin thinking about the affirmation - relax and clear your mind. Do not tense yourself or make an effort to direct or force your thought.

Do not concern yourself about outer disturbances. If it is convenient go to the same place each day but do not make an issue of the noise from the street car or the ringing of the phone. With a little practice you can be very much alone and undisturbed within yourself in the midst of the largest crowd.

Read and repeat mentally the affirmation. Based upon your own understanding center your attention upon the meaning, the spirit of the affirmation. Examine each word and follow the line of thought pertaining to it.

Realize the part you are playing in connection with a reading for some individual. Know that your thought, your prayer aid Edgar Cayce in securing information that will be helpful.

R5. 6/42 A.R.E. Prayer Group published a little card carrying the following quotes, front and back, from the readings, and a prayer by Mrs. [69], a member of the A.R.E. Norfolk Study Group #1 and the Prayer Group. 12/70 it was reprinted for other groups wishing to use it.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

He has promised to take our burdens upon Himself, so let our prayers be:

“I CANNOT BEAR THIS ALONE, MY SAVIOR, MY CHRIST, I SEEK THY AID.”

And such a cry has never, no never, been denied the believing and acting heart. [262-64, Par. 17-A.]

“Lord, here I am! Use me in the way, in the manner Thou seest fit; that I may ever be that Thou hast purposed for me to be, a light shining as in darkness to those who, from one cause or another, have lost hope.” [3976-26]

“Father, Mother, God, I thank Thee for the privilege of being used in Thy service, for the many good things Thou has given me, for the use of Thy life, light, love, power, peace and wisdom. I realize now that of myself I do nothing; for all I am or have or ever hope to be or have belongs to Thee.

Make me so conscious of Thy presence that I shall never fail nor make a mistake in a single thing. Help me to become a crystal clear channel for the pure Christ light through which Thy purifying power of divine love, may heal, bless, prosper and illumine all to whom my thoughts go. And then, Father, when the day is ending and the shadows are lengthening may I feel the blessings of that peace which Thou only canst give. Now, that which I have asked for myself, I ask for all Thy children. In the name of Jesus Christ and for the sake of blessed beloved humanity, I thank Thee. Amen.” Mrs. [69]
